The restaurant also offers large format meals and prix fixe menus for groups as well as private dining options.
Lunch: 11:30am - 3:00pm Daily
Dinner: Sunday-Thursday 5:30pm - 11:30pm
Friday-Saturday 5:00pm - 12:30am
Always check the daily off-menu specials! Any bao is a good choice. Shrimp and shellfish sambal, & banana leaf roasted skate, were great and generously sized. Try the Penicillin for what ails you...
Food was so great, beautiful combinations. A real experience.
Good service. Would have liked a plate switch now and then. It was fairly cold in the restaurant and the toilet was not as clean as it should be. We missed WiFi. Not that we want to be on our phone, but as tourists we are a bit dependent on WiFi, to find the right subway station, for example.
But we were there for the food and the kitchen really delivered. It was great!
Service and food were impeccable. The skate is the star of the evening but everything we ordered were equally superb: the flatiron steak, the Berkshire pork and the baos that were not on the menu. This restaurant and experience are highly recommended!
Simply amazing. The pork belly steamed buns were the best dish we’ve ever eaten. The cocktails were absolutely delicious.
What a find! The menu is small but oh my, everything was delicious. We had the duck ssam and the fried chicken, both wonderful. As an appetizer, I recommend the cauliflower, so good. They have a nice selection of beers and even though they only have 2 choices for dessert, both are incredibly good. Service was not great. The waitress was unattentive and seemed to be eager for us to leave. In her defense, she was acting as hostess and waitress, so I would suggest having more staff in place to avoid this. I will definitely come back next time I'm in NY.
The food was okay at best. I like the creative dishes. It’s the kind of place where you go with 3 friends, share 3-5 plates and still leave hungry. The portions are so small that we only got one bite of each thing we ordered.
They never disappoint: staff are warm, knowledgeable and never attempt any up-selling....no need to as the food is always GREAT! Staff also lines up when any diner goes to leave the restaurant, and all say "thanks and good-night." Complete professionalism, and welcoming environment. Duck ssam was a special that evening, and it was spectacular. In the past, we also ordered the larger pork shoulder ssam dinner for 8+ and that was probably the finest pork I've ever eaten. The pork belly buns are a must, too. Thanks for making the meals special, as we always take our out-of-town family there for special dinners.
A great restaurant with really good food, service and a waitress with knowledge about both wine and food.
Exceptional menu with surprising tastes and flavors.
Nothing was special
Fantastic as always
Everything was good.
Absolutely wonderful! Impeccable service, with a great sommelier. An incredible experience!!
One of the best meals we had on this trip to NYC. Each item was delicious. My favorite was the curry potatoes and buratta. A little noisy for intimate conversation but the food more than makes up for it.
Always consistent, tasty, and hospitable
Food was out of this world. The tasting of hams was incredible
I've been meaning to try momofuku ssam for a while but it seems like I missed the boat on this one. The staff was very friendly and attentive but the food wasnt great - everything was drenched in salt and it was a bit overpriced. I'm glad I checked it out but probably won't return.
Consistent excellence; never a disappointing meal.
The uni was just okay. The fried corn was great. The ribs were fantastic. The rib cap was surprisingly tough and lacked flavor without the salt. The beet and endive salad was slightly over salted. The ham tasting was tasty. The whole fish (porgy) was fresh and filling. The spicy shrimp was very good. Luckily, they had pork buns at dinner... a must try.
Sam hasn’t lost a step. Every dish was excellent, all the way through to dessert. Can’t wait to come back.
Good but don't need to go back. The skate wing in banana was great the ham was with it. Nice drink and wine list.
Chang never disappoints. Signature dishes are on point. Waitstaff is Knowledgeablevand helpful.
We had to wait over 20 minutes between our dishes.
Shrimp toast, pork buns, and skate were all amazing!
Thanks for another really good meal. Thank goodness still have the pork buns and rice cakes off the menu! The corn cob appetizer was yummy.
They have 8 main courses and two were not available - that is 25% of the menu
They did not offer if we wanted to have dessert
It was clear that they were rushing
I am not coming back ever again
Food was ok but there are much better places in the city
Ssam Bar is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC due to its unique menu and location. The ambiance is perfect for special occasions or a gathering among friends.
Excellent food and wine / sparkling/ drink pairings! Highly recommended!!!!
I have been to a few other restaurants in this group. Of course, Mr. Chang became famous and overall the cuisine is good. A few pet peeves.
1. It it a little uncomfortable when you are on a date and your table is one inch from the table next to you. Thus, you have total strangers basically at your table. I know there are some restaurants that want you to enjoy community, but this is not the case here.
2. One dish was super sub-par (extra spicy Shell on Shrimp). I have a pretty advanced palate and have eaten out all over the world. I expect every dish to be outstanding at this type of establishment.
3. Orderd the Shellfish and Sambal, which listed Mussels but not Clams. It came with both. Would have been nice to know, given my wife is allergic to clams only. In the waitresses defense, she did ask if we had any allergies and my wife neglected to mention clams, because she didn't see them on the menu. That is at least equally our own fault, glad to admit. Still, I had to eat the entire dish (which was great, by the way), but we wanted to share it.
The cocktails are otherworldly!
But, overall, so many other places in NYC to eat, I don't think I would return.
In for an “experience” meal and Momofuku delivered! Spicy shrimp and curly corn were winners. We will definitely come back next time we are in NYC.
Loved it...had the brisket and a pear salad...Yum. Just the right amount of spicy and sweet.
Perfect in all ways
Food was excellent!
We had a reservation for a table but at the last minute decided to make a reservation at the bar.
Service at the bar was not what I expected. We asked the bartender who was also our food server what she would recommend. We got the standard “everything is great”. I was looking for some suggestions, description of the food, her favorites, the restaurants best dishes. She did not provide any of that. She also disappeared and no else behind the bar asked us if we wanted another cocktail.
I would definitely go back but I would not sit at the bar.
Loved the food!!!
Almost everything here was outstanding, but I must lead with the desert; the coconut pie was insane. Soft and creamy filling with a buttery crust and some amazing coconut whipped coconut cream- it may just be the best desert I've ever tried.
The pork buns (off menu) were delicious, soft and flavorful. The scallops were refreshing and light. The skate (a huge portion!) was melt in your mouth soft! The only thing I didn't like was the side of rice porridge that came with the skate.
We sat at the bar which is gorgeous and the bartenders are lovely, knowledgeable and attentive.
I would highly highly recommend and I will definitely be back.
Great night of service and food. A really great experience. We had an amazing server that gave us great options as we had vegitarians and one person with a shellfish allergy. We had small plates, large plates and desert. Great wine and service. I highly recommend it.
We can't say enough good things about this restaurant. Our waitress was extremely helpful and patient with us when deciding what we should order off of the menu. Everything we ate was delicious. We cannot wait to go back!
Terrific weekend brunch! Everything is delicious—especially the smoked fish Benedict, spicy fried chicken, fried potatoes and onions. Service was very friendly and attentive. Definitely plan to return!
We loved the pork belly and the ham the best but the ham didn’t come with enough bread and the Asian pear and fennel salad was very lacking in flavor.
