   The restaurant was very nice and the history of the estate was very interesting. Had a few afternoon teas in London over the years and this was the first time I’ve never been offered more sandwiches or scones etc. Also wanted the champagne tea and they didn’t have any champagne only sparkling wine but still charged me the full price. Only two members of staff one duty in the restaurant area and that showed in the service we got.

   The level of service was disappointing. Our main was delayed apparently due to poor communication between the waiter and chef and one dish was not cooked. We had to keep calling staff to chase our order/get more wine.

   Very, very poor. We booked for breakfast. My wife ordered the Eggs Royale. I ordered the Full English. We ordered toast on the side. The toast arrived cold. We sent it back and it took more than ten minutes to replace. My wife’s eggs arrived cold. My eggs arrived cold. We didn’t eat them. When we pointed this out, we were offered replacement eggs but no refund. We declined the replacement as we had finished everything else and the toast had taken so long to replace. We asked for the check. The check came with everything double charged. We sent it back. Like the toast, it took more than ten minutes to replace. This place is gorgeous. They have more than enough staff. And it’s expensive, which is justified by the setting, in theory. But the food and the service don’t come close to matching the surroundings, and we won’t go back.

   Given the price tag the service level was very poor. The staff there clearly do not understand the concept of customer service. Set menu with very little choice, was not aware of this when I booked. 1/2 of the food was good, 1/2 poor. Very limited wine list. It seemed that booking us a taxi to get home was too much trouble. Shame as the location and venue looked nice but very expensive for what we had and poor customer service somewhat spoilt the evening.

   The decor and history make this a superb venue. The quality of food was outstanding - the scallops deserve a special mention!!! The team were attentive and engaging throughout the meal and delivered exceptional bar service. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.

   Potential to be a lovely Sunday lunch. Unfortunately our food took a long time to come out (specifically the desserts) and service was slow. Staff were friendly and food was good when it came but for the price I expected service to be quicker. We had a toddler who quickly became board.

   This was the second time we have visited and eaten at Monkey Island and it was fabulous again. The place is beautiful, the staff caring and considerate, the food delicious. We will definitely return!

    Upon our visit to the restaurant we were surprised to be the only guests for lunch. Nevertheless we were made most welcome and we had a very pleasant lunch
