We enjoyed a delicious three course meal while staying at the hotel and loved every course. Our starters and desserts were particularly original and delicious. My husband is coeliac and he was very well looked after, food was adjusted to be gluten free where needed and he enjoyed a great meal too. Our waiter was also lovely and very attentive. Thank you Monkey Island team :)
The room was very cold and they weren't able to turn off the aircondition
We had reserved a table and when we came, we were met by a rather unfriendly " you can't change tables, they are all allocated and we are very busy" it was totally unnecessary, we had no intentions of "changing table". Another waiter soon diffused that though and for the rest of the evening, the service was very friendly albeit not very professional (the wine didn't arrive until we were well into our meal and the side of potatoes came when we were almost finished eating. The food itself was fantastic!!! so five stars to the chef.
The wrong kind of music was playing just a bit too loud.
The venue and location is fantastic. The main attraction, I'd say.
Our wedding anniversary
Menu was limited however food quality and presentation was very good
Service and management was hopeless
I had to write out for them everything we had so they could produce a correct bill
A delicious lunch sat in the sun by the river. Service was great, nothing was too much trouble and the setting perfect. I cannot fault our duck and trout main courses or our sides.
Staying at Hotel so had dinner there. Initially felt the menu was a little predictable, but the food was very good. I had prawn cocktail, which was a good size portion and very tasty. The duck breast main course was beautifully pink and the fish and chips excellent. Service was friendly and competent. Angelina was particularly lovely.
The only drawback was that it was very noisy, with a large group sitting close to us. Otherwise a very pleasant evening.
Lovely food, great atmosphere and fab location. Will definitely be coming back again soon.
Our waitress was excellent, I had sides put together all vegetables was so good
Celebrated our 20th a bit late(Covid) but celebrated anyways. Excellent room excellent service excellent food. Not necessarily in that order :)
Very nice meal with friends - short menu but excellent quality throughout. We had duck and daily special sea bream for mains - both were very good. Fairly slow service but lovely setting overlooking the river and we were in no hurry. Good value for money given the quality.
Brasserie decor was very stylish ,outside terrace over looking the river was very interesting and comfortable. Waiting staff were very over stretched and worked extremely hard. The wine I chose was not available, although the white wine list was very short. I chose another glass which was awful, but I was able to exchange it . The starter and main was excellent and my husbands dessert . I opted for cheese which was served so hard I could not get my knife through the cheddar. I complained and was told by the chef it was the new health and safety rules. I was offered another pudding but I chose a coffee for us both and it was taken off the bill. I would return again as it was a very nice place to dine and I’m sure this may have been a one off.
Fantastic venue, wonderful food!
Recommend this place to anyone who'd like a stellar experience.
Had a great service in a lovely environment on a sunny day...amazing
What a shame about the service. We ordered bread and olives to start - the olives came well after the bread and just before the main. Our drinks took ages and again came just before the main meal. The side order with one main meal was totally forgotten and meal was eaten when it did arrive. No one asked if we wanted a dessert so we went back to our room
I was bought a voucher for my birthday for a 3 course Sunday lunch. The Monkey Island Estate is beautiful, we arrived early to have a look around. We were so lucky with the weather as the sun was shining so we could sit outside at Monkey Island Brasserie. The service was really good & all the staff were lovely & attentive. The food was really amazing & we loved all 3 courses & were totally stuffed. We would highly recommend & definitely be going back again.
Excellent, beautiful spot on the banks of the Thames . Lovely decor and friendly staff
Very enjoyable meal (despite tree felling going on!) but a bit pricey for lunch.
If your in the Bray area don't overlook the Monkey bar and Brasserie
We’ve had an awful experience here. We have chosen Monkey Island Brasserie for our anniversary dinner. We really wish we made a different choice. The service at this place has been absolutely appalling from start to finish. For our 6pm reservation we were left standing awkwardly waiting for table to be ready (the restaurant was empty and we arrived couple minutes past 6, certainly not early). Once seated, we waited ages for our drinks, and further 45 minutes for our starter. Our olives did not arrive, and when we mentioned this we were brought these and told they will be on the house. We didn’t really want them anymore since we had our staters but accepted with a smile. The gap between the starter and main was another hour, and we had to prompt for a second drink as well. By the time we were asked for our dessert order we have been at the restaurant for 2 1/2 hours and we’re getting really tired of sitting around. For this period there were 4 different servers for our table and I’m not sure they had any clue what the others have said/done so we had to keep repeating ourselves. Whilst waiting for our desserts (and a coffee) a 5th server comes along to tell us they need the table back. At this stage my husband has had enough and when I pointed out we would love to go actually but are waiting for our dessert,he just said that he doesn’t even want his and would like to just pay and go. More waiting for the bill. When bill arrived, the olives were on there (despite being told these were going to be on the house) but I was just going to pay before noticing we were also charged £70 for afternoon tea which we of course did not have. Again we waited around for ages to catch someone’s attention and to point this out. The bill was taken away and brought back, and very rudely told to check if it’s correct. No apology, no explanation. Olives on there. We paid and left very upset. We would highly recommend any of the Heston restaurants in Bray million times over this awful place
This is a lovely place with great views. However, the service is extremely slow. Afternoon tea was average.
Beautiful surroundings, dreadful service. A real shame
Open table gave us the wrong address although the post code was correct, access is via Bray village NOT the Marina.
Stunning venue for a meal or to stay, this must be one of the best locations o n the Thames made perfect by the beautifully maintained gardens down to the river.
Absolutely wonderful. The place was beautiful, the food amazing, the service exemplary. We had the best time. Highly recommend.
Lovely setting, good food, and pleasant, attentive staff.
When looking before arriving, I thought the menu seemed a bit limited in choice but the quality outweighed that. The food was perfectly cooked, beautifully presented and delicious.
Lovely evening , gardens beautiful staff very attentive .
It’s a lovely place with super food. Staff busy, like most restaurants there aren’t quite enough staff for perfect service and menus are less full.
We greatly enjoyed our anniversary dinner at the Monkey ~Island; we'd tried to book it a year or more ago, but the combination of Covid and the hotel refurbishment delayed things, but worth the wait.
Great starters and mains. We loved the 'special' pud, but it was a tad too rich for us, we ought to have shared one portion! Lovely rose wine too.
Amazing service, the food was very delicious and the views were to die for ! Highly recommend
This is a perfect venue next to the River Thames set in beautifully maintained gardens. The Brasserie has an interesting ,small, upmarket menu with a good wine list. Our white wine was chilled perfectly and our food delicious and beautifully presented. The staff are delightful - friendly , attentive and helpful.
Considering that this is a venue suitable for special occasions we were disappointed that we were asked to vacate our table after ninety minutes ! We didn't choose to have a starter which in retrospect which was a good decision as we would have never finished our food within the time slot. This was a birthday special treat and being rushed away from our table rather took the edge off the evening although I was able to take my coffee to one of the bar tables along from the main dining area. Perhaps this was my fault and I didn't see this limit when I booked. Two hours is a much more normal limit.
A stunning location with a fantastic menu and beautiful tasting food.
Beautiful place and wonderful staff food is exceptional
It is a must to experience. The best time to visit the restaurant is on a sunny day when you can dine on the terrace by the riverside. A beautiful river and estate view. The food is delicious and the service friendly.
Totally ripped off by as they charged £41 per bottle EXTRA for a local sparkling wine. We we were celebrating a special birthday and had 4 - at no point were we made aware of the difference in price, nor did any management come to apologise.
A week has passed and there has still not been a response to my email of complaint. It has left a very POOR taste in our mouths - such a shame as we had really looked forward to it, but with so many other good 4 & 5 star hotels locally, this one should be avoided!
The food was superb and very well presented. The service was very poor, which spoilt the evening - a special occasion. Having spent my ‘courting days’ in the original Monkey Island, I was looking forward to taking my son and his partner there to thank them for getting me through Lockdown. Arrived at 19.30 and were shown to a table, not by the window, as promised. Given the menus - ordered wine, which came very promptly. 20.10 - asked if someone would take our order. 20.30 had to ask for the ordered bread. Service improved slightly after then. The initial tension caused by your staff’s inefficiency spoilt my celebration. Unfortunately we wouldn’t recommend Monkey Island to friends who, too, we expect a professional service.
Fabulous food, lovely location, nice staff - but seemed inexperienced. Mismatch between the setting, food and the delivery.
Would have been nice to know that the road out was to be closed too! Long walk to find our taxi.
Overall good although the menu range is limited and it was an expensive meal. Be careful as we were overcharged by £4 for a glass of bubbles also the waitress didn't know if a service charge had been added to the bill and I almost added another tip on top.
The quality of the food was exceptional and was complemented by the service . The setting overlooking the River Thames all made for a wonderful evening.
Really nice afternoon by the river in this fantastic setting. Will be back.
Not worth the price. Avoid at all costs!
Service is not that great, food is nothing special, and they do not keep their promises with regards to booking. It is very expensive for what you get.
You get a better breakfast for £7.50 at your local market, trust me!
Lovely place to relax on a weekend afternoon. Highly recommend
Quiet. Elegant. Lovely food and ambiance. No pretense.
