Moro restaurant in London’s Exmouth Market may retain its reputation as one of the hippest restaurants in one of the hippest parts of the capital, but this Clerkenwell restaurant still focuses more on good food than its own image. Moro’s décor with its polished wooden floors, long zinc bar, open view to the kitchen and its charcoal grill and wood-burning oven, is functional and welcoming. Cuisine of the southern Mediterranean, from the Iberian Peninsula into Northern Africa, is the menu’s exclusive province. This Moorish cuisine with European influence is every bit as striking as it was when the restaurant opened its doors in 1997. Moro’s menu changes weekly to reflect the freshest of seasonal produce, and there is a shortish list of tapas too. The wine list shows the owner's passion for sherry, a wine first brought to Jerez by the Phoenicians, with nearly two dozen available, many by the glass.

I was a bit disappointed with the food as the restaurant was recommended to me. The starter was ok but the main underwhelming. It wasn’t seasoned well and the chicken was undercooked raw meat in the centre, and the skin was limp and fatty (I sent it back and it was better cooked when returned). The wine was very nice. The staff were nice but seemed to be rushing us

Third visit for pre-theatre dinner. Food and service always excellent. Lovely helpful staff. Will be returning again without a doubt.

I always have a meal in Moro when I visit London and have since it first opened. It helps to bridge my memories between my annual visit to the Granada Festival of Music and Dance. I’ve also introduced a number of friends to this wonderful restaurant.

Really interesting options, lovely service and bright venue. Could see on a packed evening it being quite noisy however on a Saturday afternoon lunch it was perfect.

I have been going to Moro for over ten years. This time the food was overpriced (watery fish, dirty plates, teeny tiny courgette salad) - it’s always on the more expensive end anyway, but at least you used to get value for money. The service is always great, but even the bread has changed? Everything tasted like they were trying to cut corners and to be honest, I probably won’t be back. Given today’s climate, a real lack of vegetarian options.

This is the second time i have been to Moro, both times a gift. Whilst the food is nice and fairly tasty, i don't think it warrants the £25 main course price. The presentation is quite poor and every dish was covered with parsley which shows little imagination. The service was nice and friendly though and there was a good wine list. Maybe the tapas menu us a better way to go?

Another fantastic pre-Sadlers Wells trip to Moro (they did check if we were going to something, but without any sense of rushing us). The lamb has always been so good that I've yet to try anything else on the menu, but the menu changes regularly enough that I've never had the same dish twice. I was uncertain how watermelon would be with lamb - but if the Moro chefs think it works I am willing to give it a go. Three of us had it and all loved it! The lighter summer menu with salad meant more room for dessert - although we think we've struck the right balance sharing two between three! The chocolate and apricot torte was amazing, but may have been too much if not shared. It balanced beautifully shared with the yogurt cake.

I was really disappointed by Moro. After living in Islington for 12 years and finally getting around to try it, I thought it was overpriced and the food was just not up to a good standard. Our starters were ok - the pigeon and little pork hamburger were ok - nothing wrong with them but nothing memorable. My lamb dish was woefully undercooked (and I enjoy steak tartare so I don't mind pink meat!), and boring. My partner had the pork which came with a ratatouille that just didn't work. We did not bother with dessert. It's such a shame because Moro clearly rests on its laurels and reputation, but does not live up to it. There are lots of better restaurants out there, including Caravan on Exmouth Market.

We very much enjoyed the food at Moro- a nice variety of flavours and textures. The staff were pleasant and efficient.
The decor is very uninteresting with wooden tables that could be found in a cafe - a horrible tone of green on the bottom wall- and that’s it! Not even an attempt at ambiance.
The noise level - even when it was half full - made it impossible to have a conversation so we left after mains and went elsewhere for desserts.
I would not go back but the food is worth trying.

My absolute favourite restaurant in London. The food never disappoints. My only criticism, being coeliac, is that GF bread is not offered.

A good spot for a meal out, didn’t feel rushed and staff were brilliant. But my quail starer was effectively raw and a friends was over done. Few slightly odd combos in the mains too.

Really interesting menu, the calves liver was the best I've had. All the dishes we ordered were very tasty, the cocktails were great and an interesting selection of wines including a chilled red. we plan to revisit at some point.

Absolutely fabulous restaurant. Food was delicious and nothing was too much trouble for the charming gentleman looking after us. Attention to detail, remembering what each of us were eating and making us feel very welcome. We will certainly return. Thank you Moro.

We enjoyed the whole experience of Moro the staff could not be more helpful & knowledgeable about the food & the wine list choices, we had a fantastic Cava & Douro Red 2014 which Eulelia recommended the choice was 'perfect' & the service was so polite & friendly but totally balanced & added to the overall excellent atmosphere. The fish course was so tasty & the puddings were wonderful. Thank You to everyone at the Moro as it was our Mother's birthday 89 & she loved the upbeat atmosphere & kindness shown

Lovely ambience
Attention to detail with olive oil ,sea salt in hand made pots
Use of different herbs made the food so distinctive.
Some of the staff seemed a bit full of themselves and lacked a bit of warmth
Pricey but worth it

Moro is without doubt one of the best dining experiences in London. Wonderful, seasonal, tasty, elegant dishes produced with a care that belies their apparent simplicity. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and unfussy. And the dining room, adjacent to the kitchen, is lively and fun.

I genuinely love this place.
