Moro restaurant in London’s Exmouth Market may retain its reputation as one of the hippest restaurants in one of the hippest parts of the capital, but this Clerkenwell restaurant still focuses more on good food than its own image. Moro’s décor with its polished wooden floors, long zinc bar, open view to the kitchen and its charcoal grill and wood-burning oven, is functional and welcoming. Cuisine of the southern Mediterranean, from the Iberian Peninsula into Northern Africa, is the menu’s exclusive province. This Moorish cuisine with European influence is every bit as striking as it was when the restaurant opened its doors in 1997. Moro’s menu changes weekly to reflect the freshest of seasonal produce, and there is a shortish list of tapas too. The wine list shows the owner's passion for sherry, a wine first brought to Jerez by the Phoenicians, with nearly two dozen available, many by the glass.

I ordered a dessert with a glass of alcohol. But when I paid they charged me a bottle of alcohol which is 40£. I realized it when my friend checked the bill. Actually when I paid I felt the bill is more expensive than I expected but I didn’t say it. As a waitress before giving customers the bills you should check the bill. When I knew there is something wrong with the bill I went back to that restaurant and told them the problem. They said sorry to me and refunded the wrong charge but they didn’t refund all of them. They just refunded the money of the drink but ignored the service charge which should be 3£. I think probably they know everything but they just want to earn more money when they see an Asian face. They are not new and should know the rules clearly but when it was possible they decided to blend the rules to earn more money. That’s not decent.

Moro was one of the best spots we visited in London! A nice break from all the bustle, we went on the early side and it wasn't too busy. The food was outstanding, service friendly, helpful and accommodating, atmosphere quite nice and relaxed. All around lovely, not something I'd do every day but as a slight splurge, absolutely perfect. I'd come again for sure.

Superb variety of different flavours made this a fine family dining experience. A lively buzz on a Friday night enhanced a delicious meal and I would recommend Moro without hesitation.

Moro is always good, and lovely geature of our waitress to let us taste the other dessert, the one we did not have space for after a fantastic meal but managed to finish anyway!

Since Sam & Sam Clark started Moro we have been following them: buying their books and making their recipes. We love their way of cooking.
The lunch we had at Moro fully filled our expectations. The food was delicious, the ambiance was nice, casual and the personnel very friendly. Alas we do not live in the neighborhood but we would love to eat there regularly.

Our first time, and a truly enjoyable experience. The food was marvellous, with many new and marvellous tastes. Drinks excellent too, if a tad on the pricy side (although it is London....). Love the area, the service was great and can’t wait to return. Leigh and Judith Griffin

Service was very poor given the 12.5% service charge automatically applied. The food was good, but tricky to justify the fine dining costs associated.

After using and enjoying the Moro books I was looking forward to my first visit to the Moro restaurant, so expectations were high - result? Faultless, from the warm welcome, excellent service, genuine interest in helping us make a choice and finally the food, which was just superb for every course.
And towards the end of our visit I bumped into Sam and he was just how I imagined him to be from reading the cook books - Moro is a class act.

Having bought and cooked from two of the Moro cook books, I was really looking forward to our first visit.
We had a table for 4 and we all came away really disappointed. My squid starter was tough and the pork slow-cooked in milk was flavourless and ‘wet’. My comments were shared by my fellow diners. Portions were also too large and just a bit of a mess visually.
So disappointing but will not be returning.

Tough to write this review. Thoughts on my date on Friday:
* We sat at the bar, which was fine
* Food and wine were SO good
* Atmosphere is surprisingly boring. Tables, chairs, walls - nothing to look at.
* Service was terrible. I constantly was trying to get the attention of the two guys working behind the bar, and never could get them to pay attention. Once ten minutes went by of waiting for them, I finally had to go grab a server working in the main restaurant.
* Waiter never once thought to top up our wine or water even though both were placed out of my reach.
* £150 for a bottle of wine and good food with crap service is a bit pricey.
* Food was great tho so - shrug?

Had one amazing experience at Moro a few months ago so and one moderate one . This time didnt enjoy it so much. The lamb was tougher than I remembered but it's a fun place overall with very friendly staff. The bread is amazing and home cooked, nice quality cava. Great if you need a restaurant with a lively and relaxed atmosphere.

Friday night- very busy and lively at the bar and tables. Good vibe. Excellent food and service . You can tell they want it all to be about the food because the decor is minimal. I would recommend this to anyone that wants a great meal but knows they may overpay for some things. For us it was worth it as we were on vacation. Agree with the other reviews that ONE scallop should not be 11. Also, this was the only restaurant we went to over 10 days in London that charged us for still water.

We used to go to Moro virtually every week when we lived in Clerkenwell & had looked forward to the pilgrimage back to one of our favourite restaurants. The food was as good as ever, however the prices have got really steep and not the value for money and quality Moro used to be....disappointing.

I would recommend Moro, just, with provisos.

Good: cooking was good, though my yogurt cake was just messy! I mean, like an Eton Mess, but not quite as nice.

Not-so-good: It's expensive. The wine is inexcusably pricey; no wine below £20 and pretty ordinary ones at £40-50.

Service: the older lady was lovely, but the young, surly one gave the impression that she was doing us a favour.

When full, it would be very 'cosy', i.e. cramped. It was difficult not to hear the conversations of others, especially those who seem to think everyone wants to hear their conversation!

I came away somewhat disappointed.
