Perfect destination for breakfast meetings - welcoming setting, relaxed atmosphere, friendly team and delicious menu. One of my favourite avocado/poached eggs on toast options in town.
Great for gluten and dairy free, delicious fresh healthy food, lovely atmosphere
On arrival the manager took a while to come Over and acknowledge us. He was functional but no welcome smile at all. The waiter was charming but couldn’t talk us through the beer or wine list. He admitted he didn’t have a clue. Food was average - nothing stand out amazing. The tables we had for four people were tripod tables so every time you meant on the table it tipped and one point our whole bottle of red tipped off the table. Wouldn’t go back - not special enough. Looks lovey but no atmosphere.
A light and airy place for lunch and an enjoyable meal too.
Good food and service. Nice ambience.
The place itself is lovely and the ambiance is great - we wanted a relatively quiet place so we can catch up with our friends whom we haven't seen for a while. However the quality of the food was poor - we ordered 7 dishes and enjoyed only one of them.
Very nice evening, nice staff, beautiful decor. Food was great and quite original. It's a bit pricey for a casual evening but perfect for celebration. I will be coming back and checking for menu updates to discover more of their food.
The staff are friendly and attentive. We booked a table for brunch at 11.30 only to find that the breakfast menu finishes at 11.30 and lunch starts at 12noon! I don’t think it should be an option to book at 11.30 - or the breakfast menu needs to carry on until the lunch one starts - say 11.45?
The food was delicious, healthy, well presented and filling.
All good thank you
Very overpriced, I had tagliatelle which was tasty but ordinary and massively overpriced for what it was.
Best evening in a restaurant for a long time by far! Beautiful dining room, excellent acoustics, great atmosphere, impeccable service (friendly & attentive but never intrusive), gorgeous food - faultless evening. Will return. xxx
Loved this restaurant so much! Innovative food, great table, friendly service. We booked again before we left.
Excellent food; I'm not a veggie but I loved the spiralled courgette with smoked ricotta and pistachio. Also the tuna tartare was amazing. My customer was very pleased with her dish also - soft shell crab followed by home made tagliatelle. Excellent. We will definitely be returning soon.
This was our first time at this restaurant having been recommended by friends. A party of 4of us went on a Saturday night for a meal. The decor was very pleasant and the staff very helpful and pleasant. Our first choice of red wine was not to our liking and it was changed with no fuss. The food was the best we have experienced in a long time. Very unusual and extremely tasty without being very spicy. Although we were all full we still managed a desert. The price was very reasonable. I can’t wait to return
Lovely place! Best food ever, everything is delicious, but small plates are really small;)
I love the ambiance, the service is usually good, unless they are busy, you can feel a bot of tension every now and then.
And to top it up, perfect location, always convenient to pop by...
We have been several times now and it never disappoints. we have always been able to book last minute, the food is delicious and I love the decor
The food was a little bland and samey
Fantastic food, even better ambiance, and even better service!
Excellent space and superb food.
Great food and service as always! The octopus and courgette spaghetti are a must.
A well constructed menu but lacked finesse in delivery. Expected premium dining but in fact it’s casual dining with a premium dining price tag.
Fantastic food and very friendly service.
Some unusual combinations, a fusion of Italian and Middle East cuisines.
Thoroughly recommend trying Mortimer House, something a little different
Birthday and it was wonderful excellent food
Service and food (we tried a number of dishes) was top notch . Lighting and decor is clever . Nothing sticks out but it all makes for a pleasant space . Though restaurant was full there was no 'noise' as you get in a lot of places nowadays . Piped music can be improved to be more in step with the ambiance . I did not like the 1.5 hour slot allocation before we had to leave our table but this was waived . I can see this might be a problem (for people like myself) when they are into the busier season though .
If you're a foodie purist then you probably won't be all that impressed. But if you appreciate great friendly and professional service plus a spacious and well designed venue, then you'll love it.
Beware the "small plates". Some of them really are microscopic.
No seasoning in some of the dishes
Such a shame
Sadly it was disappointing, we ordered standard avocado and eggs on toast and the poached eggs were cold for all of us. The cheese board was £10 for 3 tiny slivers or cheese, service was ok but they got the order wrong twice. It’s beautiful inside but sadly didn’t live up to expectations at all and was expensive for fairly poor quality food.
Nice place with attentive staff. My meal was good. My partner however had the large plate to share of leg of lamb. Although delicious it must have been the SMALLEST leg ever cooked. Hardly enough for one, let alone a sharing plate. Shame I didn’t take a photo. Lots of potatoes on the plate. Hardly value for money at £55!
Good for business lunches and great food.
Mortimer House is lovely; it's chilled, soft lighting, friendly service, great selection of foods (all the starters and medium plates blew us away!); the steak I had was decent, would probs get a different main next time, but it's the smallest comment, it was a genuinely lovely evening! Good wine list too!
A very nice meal with interesting takes on the food.
Rather noisy space so hard to talk over it.
Please remove head banging music - it’s really unnecessary and intrusive. There is enough noise from diners for atmosphere. Otherwise it’s a super restaurant.
The food and service received was of a high standard . I would return here if I was meeting people in the area
Great to see Lello again
On arrival the 3 of us were shown to a table directly behind a wall which we would be sitting facing. We asked for another table to be told other people had booked. We pointed out we had also booked. The next excuse was that they only have tables for 2 or 4, so why take a booking for 3? The final excuse when we said we preferred to sit in the actual dining area (not the "conservatory" ) was that area was reserved for VIPS. We managed to argue the case and were reluctantly squashed onto a table for 2. Our wine arrived after the starters, and when I mentioned the bottle was warm the waiter just shrugged and said he would get an ice bucket. After the main course was served we were left for half an hour and had to attract attention to order deserts.
The manager did make a reduction to out bill, but the evening was spoiled by the of hand service and rude front of house.
i will acquiesce and say the food was good, but the service left a lot to be desired.
Menu somewhat disjointed. A relatively small menu, perhaps well envisioned, but not particularly well executed. Lamb meatballs underwhelming and undercooked. Tagliatelle HEAVY. Nothing great. Acoustics cacophonous. Service good though.
A very good meal that lived up to expectations. The quantity and quality of the various dishes lived up to expectations from a friend's recommendation. Octopus and salmon mains were superb.Wine was a very good quality Loire. Would return and have recommended to other friends. Nice ambience and appropriate service.
