Add a piping hot pie, free range sausages or vegetarian option.. pour on your choice of fresh gravy.. and you'r done. Feel all warm and friendly.
Very nice place, great food, in the best English tradition. We'll get back soon!
We had a really good dinner, the pie with mashed potatoes was fantastic, the crumble apple pie was very good too.
Really great service. Good British food at very reasonable price.
Simple but super tasty! I suggest sweet potatoes mash and the onion gravy. Fast service. Good quality food and quantity for less than 10£
Pies seemed to not be as good as normal. The pastry was very soft as if they had been microwaved. Staff weren't very friendly.
I would recommend to friends if they are in the area and want something Brit and not too pricey.
The portions on the slightly small side and although it is called Mash....the veggies sausages were not as tasty as expected. Quorn or Linda McCartneys actually do better ones. It was too starchy with the mash.
It would be good to see more veggie/vegan options.
Overall a pretty standard casual restaurant. The vibe from the area certainly helps, but I don't think it was memorable enough to keep returning.
Thank you for your hospitality.
When we arrived our booked table had a dirty bucket on it and was right in the doorway, to the point where my chair was in the path of the door and people were constantly walking past and shaking my chair. The waitress didn't offer to clean it before we sat down and I had to ask her to do so. She didn't offer us menus either or let us know prior to ordering that they were out of menu items. The food was disgusting - I had the Sticky Sausage Salad and it just tasted like they'd poured honey on top of a tiny, limp salad. I would avoid this place completely, I don't understand the hype one bit.
Very fine food, exciting concept! They even adapt to serven gluten- and dairyfree menus! Staff is nice.
Amazing food, great menu and the best mash! Service wasn’t the best but would still recommend.
Really great small restaurant, quick service and good food.
Literally best British foods I had so far.
The best thing about Mother Mash was the food. It tasted good and was quickly delivered to the table. The service was however extremely poor. We booked at 7pm and had to wait until 7:10pm in the rain before a table became available. I ordered a victorian lemonade (which is very tasty) and my girlfriend order a wine. We did however got two victorian lemonades and my girlfriend had to remember the waitress that she ordered a wine instead. We placed our order for the main course and I asked for peas on the side but when the order got delivered these where nowhere to be found. The waitress also just threw the plates on the table while only looking outside which came across as very uninterested. As desert I ordered a sticky toffee pudding which tasted very good but came with very little ice cream. When served the waitress noticed that there was very little ice cream on the plate and said she would get some more. In the end the only thing that got served was the bill.
The food is very tasty
The food was brought quickly
The service was horrendous
all in all a good experience ( good food), but after 30 minutes ( while still having our drinks!) we were asked (kindly but firmly) to leave since there was a large group waiting outside...this never happened to me before in any other place...if a restaurant does not know how to manage table schedule it is surely not the costumer problem...
we were surprised to be asked to leave , but took it with a smile since we understood the pressure that the restaurant owner had been through ( we worked for restaurants ourselves before) - but it was a downside in our total experience....instead of giving 8 , i would give 6.5.....
Nabbed a last-minute reservation, which caused some minor confusion when we arrived but the restaurant quickly got us seated and we were happy to take a couple of minutes to look over the menu anyway.
Our group had the sausage special (wild boar and apple) and the beef pies, with a variety of mash and gravy combinations. Everything we had was outstanding - flavorful and well-balanced; even the horseradish mash wasn’t overpowering.
We were in and out quickly, without feeling rushed, and had plenty of time to make it to our other evening plans, even after stopping in a couple of shops along the way.
Highly enjoyable experience! Will be making a note of this place for future visits.
Mother Mash is an absolute must for any discerning Pie & Mash lover 😊 the food is just fabulous and a firm favourite with us, don t pass up an opportunity to visit this brilliant place.
Great food and well priced. Service wasn’t amazing but it was a bit busy. Veggie food wasn’t that good but the mash and gravy made it and my other half said the meat pie was amazing!
This was my second time in Mother Mash. Unlike the previous time, the food was colder, so maybe it was prepared with a little less care as it was a very late lunch. The ambiance is very casual - given the time, the waitresses were sitting at one of the tables - which I didn't mind as I was looking for a quick bite. The menu is quite simple, although with some interesting touches. Unlike the previous time, I found almost impossible to cut the sausages avoiding to completely take the skin off (breaking the sausage in a billion pieces) with the knives provided. Not sure whether it was to do with the sausages or with the knife, but it got a little complicated. Service was friendly and, again, casual, which I didn't mind. It's a good shout if you're looking for some simple pub food in a relaxed environment that is not your usual public house. Will go back.
I'm really happy I chose Mother Mash for a mini date with my boyfriend. The location is awesome so, as Frenchies who'd never been to Carnaby St, it was cool to discover the whereabouts.
Our waitress was the kindest girl ever, the food was as English as can get, which was what we were looking for. We will come back and you should too!!!
PS. I also chose them because I really wanted to try the English dessert called Sticky Toffee pudding and I couldn't find it anywhere else. It was amazing!
Food was utterly gorgeous and the place is great value. but whilst the staff were very friendly and upbeat, they were clearly oblivious to working in a restaurant. The throughout of customers (we had several lengthy waits for service = fewer meals served = less money made.....) was basically one sitting per table all evening. If that continues this place will probably close so get your mash whilst you can.
Great value, great service, great location! Mother Mash offer fabulous comfort food in Central London! Highly recommended
Good food and excellent value. A little quiet but that was to do with the time of day. I will certainly use mother mash again.
The restaurant was very busy due to a tour booking. The staff were very efficient and cheerful, making sure we were looked after. Our food was hot and tasty, we even found space for desserts and coffee before going onto our concert.
A small tip, make sure there are toilet rolls in the ladies loo!
Had a bite to eat before going to the theatre, the restaurant it's self was small and a bit cramped. It was clean and tidy. The staff were ok, seemed very rushed and didn't have much time for you as a customer. The food was hit and miss, the pies we had were underwhelming and felt like that had been cooked and stood for sometime. The mash was very nice but thought the gravy could have packed more of a punch. We ordered a side and never received it and no apology was made. The crumble we had for pudding was disappointing, felt like it had been deconstructed. I'm afraid I would not pop in again.
Amazing! Great food and awesome staff
The customer service was great, it was a tad noisy because of tour groups that pass through but overall great food and great service
Excellent pie and mash at Mother Mash on Saturday 6th April. The staff were courteous and efficient, even when they had a large group booking which arrived about 5 minutes after us.
The food was excellent, hot and very tasty. Cost was £34.00 for 2 x Pie and Mash and 2 side orders of peas, one glass of red wine and one beer in Soho - can't go wrong.
Make sure you book beforehand, because there were many people turned away because they just simply couldn't be accommodated.
There was no hardly anyone in there but felt the girl who was serving us was rushing us. However overall it’s a good filling meal and good value for money. I would go again.
Amazing food exceptional value for money. Served by a lovely waitress . Little bit noisy this time but otherwise brilliant.
Amazing food but terrible service! They had a big party coming in and couldn’t wait to get us out! Felt custom was unwanted as we were only a party of 2!
The restaurant cancelled twenty minutes before my reservation which meant I didn’t have time to find another restaurant in the area before seeing a show.
Very disappointing and they didn’t even offer an apology.
We visited for Sunday lunch. The menu has a good range of pies, sausages and mash. The service was very fast, which I guess meant that the food is not individually cooked. The bench seating was not very comfortable - there was not much gap between the bench and the table and they were very hard, high and upright. As the service was fast, we didn't have to sit on them for very long! The restaurant wasn't quite what I expected, as it was very tiny. I had also expected the food to be super delicious, but was slightly disappointed. It was nice, but nothing exceptional. I would eat here again, but I might try some other restaurants first.
Excellent pie/sausage and mash in the heart of London. I really liked that we got a choice of mash, pie/sausage and gravy. Service and friendly and efficient. The price was very reasonable by London standards.
Tried the bangers and mash. Absolutely amazing. Full of flavor.
I love Mother Mash! I bring visitors from the States here all the time whenever they ask for British food. The food comes out quickly, which is great because I'm always hungry the minute I walk in.
Food is easy to pick, the specials are clearly stated.
The service from one waitress was less than expected, seemed like we were a chore, which has not been my experience before.
Food as always was lovely and good value.
The restaurant has a good turn over but I could tell they wanted our table as they got busier.
Overall would recommend to all A great place to visit.
Absolutely fabulous gem of a place. Just off Carnaby Street in London, this unassuming restaurant offers a no thrills mash+sausage/pie+gravy experience. No more, no less. There are few specials and if you have room for a pud, try the crumble. Beer or Cider in bottles (wine by the glass). Dining in booths and the place fills quickly (but quieter after 9pm). Not my first time and wont be my last.
Portions were rather small but the food was good and the waiters friendly. Plus, we sate outside, and the vibe was really great.
Lovely food although the waitress was more concerned with her friend than our order lol!!!
Good home comfort food, Not mindblowing, but hits the spot
NOT RECOMMENDED! Overbooked. No table at arrival. Got sent away for 15 minutes and when we came back asked to wait another 20 minutes.
They overbook the restaurant on purpose and the staff didn’t care much!
There’s plenty of better restaurants in Soho - just a shame as my parents wanted to eat something truly British.
