Mur Mur Tulum
Delicious local cuisine in beautiful surroundings
Very nice cocktails, but there aren’t many choices for starters. The pork belly was cooked so soft that the pork tastes like overcooked fish. The potato salad was good
We came here on our last night in Tulum and it was a great restaurant to end on! They serve all locally sourced food and focus on dishes inspired by the Yucutan, and the menu was clearly prepared with great care for the local food and culture. We had a pork dish and the fish of the day, which was in a delicious mole sauce. The potato-chorizo appetizer was amazing too! It’s a great relaxed patio atmosphere, not too fancy setting-wise but definitely high end food. There are small shops in the back of the restaurant that are fun to walk around as well! The waiters were all kind and checked on us a lot, even the manager came by to make sure we loved the food. Definitely recommend MurMur! (Leave early because of traffic and difficult parking but don’t let that discourage you. It’s also near a lot of shops so worth going before your reservation to just walk around this area!)
Terrible service and food ok
Poor service. They tried to make us pay for things We did not order and We had to wait for our food for a very long time. The meat, chicken and the pork were all dry.
We really liked this restaurant and would return again. The staff were very attentive, and it is always fun to be able to watch the chefs preparing food in the kitchen, especially in a place such as this, were it is prepared in a very small area. The atmosphere was fun - the restaurant and bar are partially open air; mirrors in the covered section make it feel open and airy. The restaurant is lit by candles and very low lighting, and well-placed plants and candles made it intimate and romantic and twinkle in the mirrors. The music was also low so that you could actually hold a conversation at your own table, but not your neighbors, which was really, really nice.
We tried their mescal-based cocktails - one with passion fruit and the other a Manhattan - both were tasty. We started with Amaranth Salad and Roasted Beets; both were delicious and large enough to share. The amaranth salad was particularly good - crunchy and flavorful. We had the catch of the day, grouper, and roasted lamb chops. Both were perfectly cooked and seasoned. For desert we tried their take on a "banana split" - a roasted plantain with cocoa nibs, caramel and sour cream. We would go back again and try some of their other dishes.
The only drawback for me was that the restaurant burns copal (a resin) as a natural mosquito repellent, and the smoke kept drifting right where we were seated, which made it particularly strong for me, and competed with the aroma of the food. If you like incense or strong scents, this will not be bothersome. However if you have allergies or asthma or are sensitive to strong perfumes, be prepared.
Very warm and welcoming staff, attentive to our dietary restrictions and allergies. The manager was able to talk us through the menu and our server was very knowledgeable and described drinks and dishes really well. The portions were great and the cocktails were tall and refreshing.
Wonderful experience and attention to detail.
Amazing experience and delicious local food!
Demasiado Top!! Full
Mur Mur came highly recommended by several friends who had previously been to Tulum - one of them a chef and Mur Mur did not disappoint! The food was delicious - must order pork tostadas to start! The service was excellent - genuine and warm without being overbearing. The overall experience was lovely and would recommend to anyone visiting Tulum
Love the food and presentation! The service was impeccable. I’ll be back
Firstly, service was superb. Friendly, knowledgeable, available, but not smothering. The food and flavor profiles aren’t as strong as they were at my last visit 2 years ago. At that time, I considered it one of the best meals anywhere, and definitely superior to Hartwood. So much so, I ate there two nights in a row. This visit, the flavors weren’t as interesting or complex. Pairings and flavor profiles seemed off. Example: a few fresh tomato halves served with the pulpo was unnecessary, and didn’t support the dish. It was still a good meal, but not what it once was. I hope Mur Mur finds again their magic for our next visit!
Great meal and service by a passionate team.
Everything was fantastic! Only downside was the mosquitos, but just wear bug spray bc the food was amazing and the restaurant is beautiful!
First off — wow! This is the place. My husband and I enjoyed our first meal in Tulum at this fantastic little spot. The ambience, the service — the food, those cocktails! Where to begin. I can not recommend this divine little date night destination enough. Easily our favorite meal in Mexico, Mur Mur is a delight, from start to finish. The lovely and attentive staff will seamlessly guide you through a brilliant menu, while you enjoy the very best of locally-sourced produce. Do yourself a favor, order the pork belly and finish the night with something decadent. Mur Mur does not disappoint!
While there was a slight hiccup with our reservation (for some reason they had us down for a party of 5 instead of 2...), we had a great experience. The ambiance is a bit more low-key than some of the flashier Tulum spots, but the service was fantastic. The ceviche, tomato salad and catch of the day were all incredible. Our cocktails were a bit on the side of too-sweet but we enjoyed them nonetheless.
Mur Mur is a Tulum gem! It's our favorite restaurant in Tulum. The design of the place is super cute. We loved the bar swing for a cocktail before sitting down for dinner. The dim lighting and the open wood fire kitchen makes the ambiance interesting and different. The scents and music roaming true the place are enjoyable. Most of all, the food was so delicious! The portions are just right not too big not too small, perfect for sharing. We strongly recommend to try the following dishes; the tomato salad, the short ribs and the chicken with brussel sprouts. The service was outstanding! Armando the manager tends to every little details and needs and he had great recommendations on which dish and wine to try. We loved it so much that we booked another reservation to dine for a second night at Mur Mur before we leave this magical place called Tulum! Mur Mur is a must try!
Walking into Mur Mur we were greeted by the manager who gave a little background about the restaurant. He was very kind as well as our server. The menu prices were expensive, as expected but a little overboard for what we were served. We knew that coming in and wanted to experience fine dining for one night as we were staying in Tulum. For 2 drinks, 1 shared appetizer, 2 entrees and a dessert it totaled around $110 US dollars. The appetizer was amazing, pork salpicon tostada, entrees fish of the day (wild mackerel) and pork belly were good, and dessert fudge brownie with passion fruit was okay. With the entrees we were given tortilla shells and that completed our meal, without it I think it would’ve been just okay. I also would not recommend spicy Paloma drink if you’re wearing white, the drink is a mess with some type of shavings coming down the cup for presentation, and they do not offer straws which is okay but it is almost impossible to drink out of the cup as well as all the ice and fruit (please use bigger cups). Overall, amazing environment (no cell service at all) and beautiful presentation. Not a place to eat every night while staying at Tulum, but a good experience overall.
One of the best and inexpensive (for the quality) meals I’ve ever had. If you’re a foodie that enjoys experiencing local cuisine this place is for you!
We’ve been to quite a few restaurants like MurMur in different places around the world... nothing compared to the way my wife and I were treated, the atmosphere and the FOOD! We cancelled our dinner plans for our last night in Tulum and are going back for a 2nd time.
Really good food, reasonable price service was a bit lax not terrible but not fantastic either.
Amazingly appealing space in otherwise chaotic Tulum beach environment — great encounters with Armando the Host and our server. Great, interesting food served timely.
For the price I expected it to be better. Also, the service was not very friendly based on other places in town. Overall I was slightly disappointed in our experience here.
Outstanding food. My favorite full dinner meal in Tulum.
Perfect place. Food is excellent
This is our second visit and I think it even surpassed our wonderful experience last year. Everything amazing. The chorizo and potatoes hands down the best dish of the week which included such heavyweights as Hartwood, Arca, Gitano, and Nu. Such a beautiful spot as well. Just love taking it all in. Thank you guys! Oh and the cutest dog greeting everyone was a hit with my kids.
The service was AMAZING, but just to warn you, it is VERY smokey. Everything is wood fired, so obviously there’s some smoke that billows. Food is some of the most delicious i’ve had in Tulum.
Amazing food, this place did not disappoint! The menu is small but the 3 dishes my boyfriend and I shared were exceptional! We had the pork tostada, the shrimp tacos, and the guacamole with pomegranate, all of them to die for. We’ll definitely be back before we leave Tulum!
Excelente cocina, pobre servicio
Ambiente piacevole, accoglienza ottima, Armando professionale, molto disattento il nostro cameriere, cibo perfetto, drink super. Grazie per gli auguri!
The place was good, as well as food. We found it a bit too expensive though, especially wine. Appart from that we ordered wine which was totally spoiled, smelled and tasted like vinegar but somelier tried to convince that it is how it should be. As I have done many wine tastings, this argument didnt go through. However, it doesn’t add good to the place.
Creative menu. Uber cool staff. Loved
The service at Mur Mur was fabulous. The hostess, manager and wait staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The day of our visit they worked with our schedule and changed our reservation to later in the evening to accommodate our needs. We appreciated their flexibility and customer service orientation. The beet salad was unbelievably delicious and the turkey dinner melted in our mouths. The atmosphere was fun and upbeat with lively music playing from the 80s. The whole experience was very pleasant and we will definitely be back!
Our visit to Tulum was enhanced by our wonderful evening at Mur Mur! The service, the cocktails, the amazing food, everything was so delicious!! We will definitely return!
Great place. Outdoor sitting only, fantastic coctails and food. Super fresh fish and seafood, so fresh they run out often because they only get so many a day. They have a wonderful brick oven where they do their magic. Bar people are super knowledgable, they made me a great Aperol Spritz even though it wasnt in their bar menu.
Its a little warm, no a/c or indoor sitting, but worth it. Very sexy place.
Everything about Mur Mur was incredible. I want to head back to Tulum just to visit Mur Mur again.
