Our bar area is the perfect space for a happy hour with extensive cocktail and tequila menus.
The decor and ambiance makes MXDC the perfect destination for a romantic evening, a family dinner or to host your next private or corporate event.
Created by Todd English, MXDC's menu includes small plates, entrees, and family-style dishes. The menu offers traditional foods from various regions throughout Mexico. Taco options include Pork Belly; beer-battered Mahi Mahi; and Carne Asada. Other favorites include the Seven-Chile Lamb Shank, Tortilla Soup and our open-faced quesadillas.
The Chili Relleno was great. That was 1 meal out of 5. The rest were average to poor — and one was mistaken entirely and had to be re-made. And this took about 20 minutes which completely disrupted the flow of our family meal. Potions too were about 80-90% of what they should have been. Not a great night out.
Good food. Modern style Mexican food.
Overall very tasty
We were seated quickly and service was good, albeit, a little rushed. We ordered guac for an appetizer but it arrived with our entrees. Not exactly what we were hoping for, but at least everything tasted good.
Super busy evening! Good food!
Four of us went to MXDC to celebrate a co-worker’s upcoming retirement. Safe to say things did not go well. Before the others arrived, guacamole was ordered for the table and it was brought out quickly. Things went downhill from there. We wanted cava and the server brought out two bottles and neither was selected. Then asked for other options and was told that that was all they had. Appears MXDC was waiting for an order of cava to be delivered. Then the waiter reappeared with a bottle of prosecco. Important to note, that prosecco wasn’t even on the menu. By this time, decision had been made to switch to wine. Waiter had trouble locating the wine list. When he returned, pointed out that we had been there for 30 minutes and still had been unable to get a beverage. Finally said something to a manager. She went to the bar and brought back a) a bottle of cava that we had already not selected and b) something new that the waiter didn’t even know existed. Selected the new bottle and was told it was chilled. Of course, it wasn’t. Server was slow in refilling the glasses but did come over when he saw us filling our own glasses. People seemed to like their food. Three people ordered the mix and match tacos and one person had the rockfish ceviche. Don’t know if the server is new but management needs to be proactive. Even after it was brought to the manger's attention that there were issues, they didn't check back to see if things had improved. If we go back to MXDC, will only sit in the bar area. Disappointed that things didn’t run smoothly for the retirement celebration.
Exceptional modern Mexican. Excellent value. Loved the sangria. Service was excellent.
If you like spice, I suggest asking for the habanero salsa to put on top of your food! It is delicious but oh so spicy!
Had to send the queso fundido back it was gross didn’t even have the texture of cheese. Weird. Super loud tacos looked good but didn’t have them
The food at this place great. Truly fresh Mexican food (no prepared yesterday tasting meats). The tortillas appeared to be made onsite. It was a huge happy hour hot spot in DC. We were there for dinner on business but were not deterred by the vivacious chatter around the room. Will definitely go back again. Nice find.
The service was fantastic. The cocktails were well crafted and balanced. The guac and salsa were some of the best I've head in DC. The honey chile glazed salmon was delicious with a good balance of sweetness and heat. The fajitas had brilliantly fresh vegetables but the dish underseasoned to the point that perhaps it was unintentionally unseasoned. Overall, it was a good experience and I will be back.
The main meal was good but the portions are pretty small for the price. The major issue was the churros were undercooked / very oily and when the waiter asked how the food was we said it was very good, other than the churros and explained and he said "ok excellent". The service in general was a bit lacking and overall a bit pricy for what it is
All was just ok....I've had much better and more interesting for half the price. Probably will not go back.
Our first visit. The margaritas were excellent, the corn chips perfect, the guacamole with just the right amount of heat. We had the paella for two. It is enough for three, actually, with good mussels.
Good food and ambiance, overall great experience
The restaurant was very nice! The food is usually amazing... however this time, service and food taste subpar.
I Went with my wife for our first anniversary dinner today. The service was too slow. Only one server for the who 2nd floor
I asked for lemon to have with my taco. The server never came back. You have to ask for chips to have with drinks. Had to wait for drink for 20 minutes. Ordered the Mx fajita for my wife and they brought only chicken.
I never expected such kind of service at MXDC.
The food and ambiance here is hands down awesome. It's an easy location to find and access if you are in the NW area of DC. A great varied menu and awesome margaritas and tequila choices. The staff is friendly and attentive.
Great food. Great environment. One of the best DC restaurants for Mexican food. The seats are a LITTLE bit too close together, but all in all, the food is delicious and it's well worth it!
I was in D.C. for work and this was a casual place nearby after flying all day. It was very loud, so I was happy to be there alone, so I didn't have to yell to have a conversation. The tacos were just alright, what I expect for the east coast. Of the 3 I had, the pork belly was the best over the pork shoulder or short rib. Overall just slightly bland. The pesto brussel sprouts were great though and my negroni was made well.
Nothing special. Our server was clearly focused on a table of girls who were buying drinks so the service was pretty slow. He did offer a drink to compensate for his lack of attention, but better service would have been the desired option. The food was pretty good. The portions were just smaller than I anticipated. I made a reservation that lister a birthday as the reason for dining. I’m not sure what the purpose of that was. Nothing was ever mentioned about it.
Food and service was great! I am from California and haven't been ableto find a good authentic Mexican restaurant since I moved here...well, now I have! I will be back with my family!
The food continues to be excellent, particularly the specials. The Mexican twist on gazpacho was outstanding and I hope they keep it on the menu for as long as the season allows. The tables are extremely close together and the noise level was such that it was difficult to converse. The wine list isn't great.
Hey it’s DC so everything is $$$. You aren’t going to get good value anywhere.
Forgetting that....the margaritas and food was oh’so good! Service was excellent. Just don’t take the signed copy of the bill (we had a pitcher of margaritas, my excuse ) or else the poor waiter will have to run to catch you. Sorry about that!
We will for sure be back on our next trip to dc! Excellent margaritas, and the short rib and mani tacos were to die for!
Street taco style which were good. The Brussel sprouts were delicious
Brought a few friends for dinner and we all had a great time. We received great recommendations by the manager and our server Rhyna was great too. We already made plans to come back!!!
It was not the Mexica food I expected. I enjoyed the short robs but the fajitas were terribly lame.
What a nice spot for an evening meal with friends, colleagues or both. The shareable plates are nice, the sides are super tasty and the service was outstanding. It is a bit on the loud side, so I wouldn't choose for a business meeting or a romantic evening. I will be back again!
Food was pretty good. I've seen reviews that say the food was great, others that have said it lacked flavor. Our meal was flavorful and the portions (except for the guacamole) were good. When ordering guac at a latin restaurant, you don't typically expect for it to be so small. The service was good initially but then our waitor disappeared for a bit, forgot to bring utensils for dessert, and then reappeared, of course, for the check.
Loved the food and drinks!!! Javier was great and made the night fun. Will come back!!
Server was unprofessional and not customer focused. Interrupting conversations, not able to expand on questions regarding menu items, reaching over one person to serve another and no apologies or excuse me extended. Always seemed to be rushing and once bill was provided he was lurking in the corner waiting to clear. The purpose of the visit was a business lunch and I never felt able to relax and have a in depth conversation.
Everything was perfect and delicious. They were still offering the restaurant week specials so that was a nice surprise as well. Will come back next time we are in town!!
Food was delicious and came quickly. We were there for an early lunch and had an opportunity to talk, but by the time we left, it was so noisy, communication was challenging. Still, would be a good place to go for a fun lunch or office celebration.
Great atmosphere. Great for date night or drinks at the bar. Service was great and the food was delicious. Definitely will return!
We went during restaurant week, DC, in 2019. We ate the Pre Fixe meal for restaurant week. I had a vegetable chille rellano that was filled with subtle flavors. And the tuna-crab cerviche was mouthwaterringly tender and tart. However, the Portuguese wine we wanted was unavailable. Hostess was great and found us a place upstairs (slightly quieter for conversation.) The waiter was a little inattentive for my preference, but did provide overall good service.
The service was terrible. Our food arrive 20 minutes before our children. Very disappointed.
Really nice decor and the service was excellent even though they were quite busy. A happening place, I will go again!
The food is inventive and delicious. Great selection of tequila.
