We booked the naan’ery as a special experience as we were told the bar at the back of the restaurant can only be used for a naan’ery menu. Baluchi reception called the day before to confirm I knew what the experience consists of and that we will be sat at the bar and someone will talk us through the bread making process, the food and the matching wines. On arrival we were sat at an ordinary table in the restaurant and were told that the gas in the naan’ery was broken and there was repair work being done so they could not cook the breads in front of us and we could not sit at the naan’ery bar but that we will get the same experience. They also noted that they knew about the issue for a few days now. We made a joke about perhaps getting a discount given this was the case, but the waiter did not react in any way to it and at the end were charged the full £111 (£99 for two naan’ery menu plus service charge).
Unfortunately during the dinner we were only told what the menu already included and apart from being served the naan’ery menu did not receive any special experience which is very disappointing. I hope in the future the restaurant would consider notifying the customers in advance and giving them a choice to reschedule for a date when the full experience can be enjoyed. Food overall was tasty, but given the size of the breads and the matching wines the dabba tiffin main course at the end was unnecessary and perhaps could have been replaced by some much smaller innovative tasting dishes of much higher quality. The indian white and red wines were relatively good and paired well with the truffle and blue cheese naans. The Muscat de Beaumes de Venice’ beautiful flavour was overpowered by the mango and coconut naan complemented so well by the berry sauce. The tamarind chutney was overdone in sweetness and was difficult to enjoy with the already very sweet fig and cheese naan.
Wishing Baluchi food to rise up one day to match their stunning venue! Will visit again :)
The food is fantastic. The service needs work. Waitstaff missed our first wine pairing and did not check in on us. Plan on spending 2.5 hours at the restaurant.
The staff just made our Naan’ery experience incredible, everyone took great care of us, will definitely visit again. The food was so delicious with exquisite wine pairings.
Delicious food and excellent service. I highly recommend this restaurant. Additionally, the dining room and hotel are beautiful.
