Really tasty food, starters large, and good service. People turned away when I was last there so recommend that you book
Excellent tasty authentic south indian food, this restaurant is always consistent with their food, the dosai's are the best!
a definite must to try
as always excellent fresh tasty food.
good value for money, best Dosai's
Nicely flavoured food. A good variety to choose from the menu without being overcrowded! An unpretentious restaurant with a good service attitude.
We arrived at the restaurant at 8.30 pm to find that they did not have any record of our booking. The restaurant was very busy and were told that we would have to wait at least 30 mins.We were very disappointed as we have been to this restaurant many times and always enjoy.
Fantastic restaurant in south Croydon. Really fresh authentic food - great value for money too and very relaxed atmosphere
Great choice in the menu and followed up by a range of great tasting dishes. Couldn’t fault the friendliness of the staff as the speed of which the food came out. Highly recommend this to anyone
I booked a table through open table only to arrive at the restaurant and be told that there was no table available.
We were told that we could wait for a table until someone else left but this is a very small restaurant and on a Saturday night there was no chance that a table would become available.
We had no choice but to leave - disappointing as we have eaten here before and enjoyed it. Disappointment all round.
Yet Again Excellent Fresh Food & Good Service which is hard to find nowadays
The Dosai's are just amazing, the food is so fresh and full of flavour
we go here regularly and I would definitely recommend this place to everyone
Fantastic food as always, with great service. Catered for two vegans in our group with ease. Everyone delighted. A really nice meal out for the family.
The food was delicious and authentic. It was the right balance between traditional and modern. The ambience is lovely, intimate and friendly, which was helped by having great attentive staff. I would definitely be coming again and making it a regular. It’s difficult to find anywhere the serves better Indian food. Top marks!
Best curry I've had for a long time. Top south Indian food and paratha to die for. Highly recommended and that's an understatement.
Great fresh food, Rava Dosai was so tasty.
Maru Bhajia really good but not enough in the portion.
very good value for money
Been here a few times and not yet been disappointed. Although it lacks the internal glitzy décor of some of its competitors, it's perfectly acceptable, nicely presented, clean and tidy, and the food and service more than make up for any missing bells and whistles. The food is excellent, well cooked, decent portions and bursting with flavour, plus they serve the dosa, which is a very, very thin savoury pancake rolled round a selection of fillings which I've never encountered anywhere else. It's also reasonably priced, so what's not to like? We've taken a few friends there and everyone so far has agreed with our verdict. We shall be back!
Good authentic food for a reasonable price.
Good ambience ...
Nothing to fault here. Very good personable experience. Good food at a price that’s value for money.
Went there on Friday evening with a friend.
Very good Rawa Dosai and great value for money, good prompt service and nice warm atmospehere
Arrived early and were seated in the window seat, fine. However, our starters arrived and some of it was incorrect/not served. Our main course arrived and the saag dal was absolutely awful; we should have sent it back but were distracted by the guy on the next table and his appalling table manners; he slurped and smacked lips louder than most animals. Considering the opposite side of the restaurant was empty, not quite sure why he had to be sat right on top of our table.
The rest of the food was nice, certainly very good value for money, so if you don't mind taking a chance on the saag dal (or avoiding altogether), I'm sure the rest of it will be OK.
Really enjoyed it and will go back. Would mention that the chicken tikka masala was the spiciest I've ever had and the saag wasn't nice but they took that off the bill so can't fault them for that. Best garlic naan ever!
Best as usual. My favorite place! :)
Fantastic family run restaurant with amazing food!
Excellent authentic Indian food. Good veggie options
Disappointed to turn up for our table at Navaratna on Saturday night to find that the restaurant had no record of our reservation via Open table. I have booked this a few days previously and received an email from Open table reminding me of our booking on Saturday afternoon. The restaurant staff weren't particularly sympathetic but offered to try and squeeze us in once we produced the confirmation email. They were pretty busy and the food smelt great however didn't feel comfortable in staying. Luckily we managed to get a table at the Vietnamese restaurant Cat Ba Island a few doors away and had a great evening with lovely food there.
I suggest exercising caution if booking Navaratna through Open Table and probably better to do it directly with the restaurant. Will try them again another day myself as menu sounds good and smelt appetising!
We visited on a Friday evening and had booked so no problem with seating.
There was a good buzz about the restaurant but this later turned noisy.
Good food but the service was not enough to be noteworthy.
We had a good evening and enjoyed good food and wine.
The Malbec was not expensive and was well worth the money.
First time I had a dosa was absolutely delicious! Great prawn curry and yummy peshwari naan.
The food was delicious, the staff were accommodating. Couldn't fault anything will definitely go back and recommend to others.
The Navaratna is a restaurant situated in the heart of Croydon’s South End between East and South Croydon. Very easy to find. I came with my granduncle for pre-Hanukkah meal before he is going off to Costa Rica tomorrow morning.
As you enter the place you are welcomed by a relaxable setting, a delightful sight of the luxuries of modernity. Sitting in any table is very spacious and comfortable.
The menu offers a wide variety of mouth-watering starters. I had a vegetable samosa and onion bhaji. They accompanied by a raiti sauce, while my granduncle had cauliflower and mushroom gobi. He is not a fan of spicy foods, but luckily, he enjoyed the starter. The main course consisted of a dosa with masala dosa (Tamil rice-crepes with spiced potato), chana masala, saag paneer and a couple of chappati breads, which really enjoyed us.
All the products were fresh and the dishes had the warmth of home-made food, according to Tamil culture, food acts as an important part in their culture towards humanity.
The service was wonderful, helpful and very attentive. They make sure that we are happy with our orders, make sure they understood us right as we are deaf.
I will go back again sometime in the future and I highly recommend you going to the Navaratna!
Went for lunch after picking up our daughter at the end of the school year.
There was no one else there on a friday lunch time as we were the only people there.
They have a large selection of dishes to choose from but worth choosing South Indian dishes which they do well.
If you want ambience maybe evenings are better as lunch time was empty.
The vegetarian starters are highly recommended. The food is fresh and flavoursome.
