Nelson Street Ratings and Reviews
The chef at Nelson Street is doing a great effort to add fresh ideas into his dishes. For this price range, you expect a little more focus on the details too, and not just fireworks, but the overall result is actually great, and the friendly staff makes it a good overall experience.
Had a wonderful evening. We had an early table on a Tuesday evening so the restaurant was quite but it didn’t feel uncomfortable. We were made to feel extremely welcome, the food was gorgeous very well presented. Loved all the extras as well which made the evening even more memorable.
Looking forward to going back.
This is a totally fabulous restaurant . The food, ambiance, service, friendliness and professionalism of all the staff are all exemplary . The presentation of the food is a work of art and the flavour combinations and textures are inspired but not pretentious . There is a superb wine list with excellent choice of wines by the glass, the Pouilly Fuisse and the Provence Rose both being exceptional examples . The speciality Gin and Tonic options also stonkingly good; I had the Brockmans with juniper berries , coriander and orange - sensational !
This restaurant is simply one of the best out there and the integrity of production of the food is highly impressive - the courgettes were home-grown and everything is carefully sourced. This is such a super place - better than many Michelin starred institutions, I think, and I am planning a return visit . I loved the relaxed atmosphere combined with seriously accomplished but accessible cooking.
Thank you to Nelson Street for such a memorable meal !
A wonderful meal with great service to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. We decided to go with the Discovery Menu, which was a taster menu, and we were not disappointed. Every single course was well presented, full of wonderful flavours. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant and it is great that a small town such as Buckingham has such a place to visit.
I took the missus out for our date night and was instantly impressed. Firstly the menu had been changed compared to the one online (frequent changes = creative chef, in tune with the seasons = great food). The new menu price was slightly lower than online at £35 per head for three dishes. Our waiter(s) were excellent, they knew everything about everything on the menu. We were interested in a glass of limoncello, and the waiter explained that they were MAKING some at the moment, but it wouldn't be drinkable for 6 weeks. We chose an English wine and were told where the grapes are grown (4km away) and blended and how many acres the grower has. These guys are really in touch with their products.
The meal began with four different 'amuse bouches' which were delicious. The three dishes we each chose were paused midway with a pallete cleansing drink, which was tart and delicious. Each of these touches was on-the-house and gave us an excellent feeling of being taken care of. The dishes themselves were cooked to perfection, beautifully presented and of course, delicious!
I really can't praise Nelson's enough, we'll definitely be coming back.
Excellent, interesting and enjoyable food. The service was exceptional. It's not cheap but it is certainly good value for money. We went on a busy Saturday night (usually when things fall apart for popular restaurants, if they're going to that is) and we had a really fabulous meal with great, well-paced service in a delightfully relaxed atmosphere.
I have no hesitation in wholeheartedly recommending Nelson Street!
Very lucky to have a restaurant like this in a small market town. Great menu, great food and really attentive staff. Such a good experience and struggle to find similar outside of London or other big city let alone a small town and using local ingredients. Very impressed. Well done team!
We have been coming to Nelson Street Restaurant since it opened and the restaurant just keeps getting better and better! Louis has a real talent for flavour and presentation, and the new smaller-dishes menu provides the opportunity to sample a wide variety of his talents. Every plate is thoughfully put together, combining flavours and textures to create truly memorable dishes. The food, coupled with the friendly and attentive service from Sam and the rest of the waiting team, add up to making this Buckingham restaurant a real gem!
A wonderful surprise, such a great place to eat locally. Nelson Street have a fairly unique offering, instead of the traditional starter & main they suggest 3 plates from the menu (think Spanish raccione), one each from a set of fish, vegetable or meat selections or any combination of the three. This works extremely well; you get to try more and the portion sizes are perfect. As to quality, this was first rate in both taste and presentation. The dishes included flavour combinations I might not have considered but worked wonderfully. Stand out dish might be the beetroot and smoked goats cheese, amazing. It's not often I eat out with my partner and I secretly wish I'd chosen one of her dishes. On this occasion we would both have been happy to eat all of the other's dishes but were extremely pleased with what we'd ordered for ourselves. It really was superb, was great value and we can't wait to go back!
I've been here before & have been disappointed. Not this time. WOW!!! The tasting menu was fabulous. Perfectly timed & described dishes. Yummy food. Perfect sized. Not cheap... but this was a special occasion!!
I will be back as it was just lovely. A true gastronomic delight in Buckingham
As always the food is superb, menu is separated into smaller dishes so three is recommended but we just stuck with two which were absolutely divine and very different, loved the ambience, brilliant service, quite pricey though worth every penny, maybe wouldn't suit a starving great big man though for ladies and gents smaller dishes which equally fill you up without feeling stuffed it isn't excellent
Nelson Street two months ago changed to Tapas sized servings of their dishes. It gives one a chance to eat a lot of different foods and I like it. Every dish we had was outstanding and just right from every aspect. The service was excellent too and the wine amazing. It isn't cheap but I rather pay more than be disappointed. It was one of the best lunches I ever had.
Nelson street was booked for a birthday celebration, I had not read the menu so was essentially 'going in blind'. On arrival the staff were attentive and friendly. The drinks on offer were mostly organic/save the planet type drinks and initially this felt like a narrow scope but opened the door to some fantastic new flavours from around the world. The restaurant was busy with some large groups and things felt slow. We all ordered from the 'adventure' menu which I can describe as a taster menu of 3 dishes. There was some confusion as the whole table was required to either order from this menu or the ala carte menu. We were given appetisers which were a new experience and very tasty this was followed by our 3 courses and each of these were amazing flavour combinations. Pudding was very enjoyable and was actually bigger than my main course which I was pleased about! I would recommend this restaurant for special occasions depending on your budget. We didn't have wine with the courses but there were wines designed for each course which doubled the cost of the food. All in all I will be visiting again and recommending to others. Thank you to the staff who were knowledgable about the food and would tell us what we were about to eat which was a new experience for me. Thank you to the chefs all of the food was cooked beautifully.
