Due to the success of our Food to Go, your support has inspired us to diversify the
experiences we offer through our new concept; the Nest at L’Ortolan. The Nest is a
new style of dining at L’Ortolan. As suggested by the word, the Nest signifies
home and family which is what we are trying to achieve in this separate dining
space. Here we will offer a more relaxed, casual dining experience for our guests
- Surfaces sanitised between seatings
- Common areas deep cleaned daily
- Digital, disposable or sanitised menu provided
- Sealed or wrapped utensils used
- Limited number of seated diners
- Distancing maintained in common areas
- Extra space between tables
- Waiting staff wear masks
- Sick staff prohibited in the workplace
Excellent roast turkey
Good service although a bit of confusion around starters and desserts either not on the menu or ran out.
Starter was fantastic.
Main was very tasty but came out luke warm. Veg was undercooked to the point of being difficult to eat (Brussels sprouts were like rocks).
Could be a fantastic venture with some refinement, though I honestly expected a bit better from somewhere attached to a michellin starred restaurant.
Good ambience, great food, and good service. Will go there again.
Felt very safe with all staff wearing masks and diners when not at tables. Tables well spaced out. Food was magnificent and service top class. Very grateful to all staff for making the experience ao special. Thoroughly recommend.
Food was fantastic and all COVID guidelines well followed
Excellent, thank you. We will be back again soon.
The Bistro menu is brief so we found we did not like any of the puddings. However we really enjoyed the other courses although the size of cod was small.
Second visit to Nest during the lockdown and felt perfectly safe and relaxed and enjoyed great service and great food.
Good food good value tentative staff. Easy to find and parking no issues. All well controlled under current restrictions
tried to book by phone...no one picked up, left a message for call back. Didnt happen. Booked online. Sent email to confirm I would be using a gift voucher. No reply. At reception they were not aware of this.
food was standard pub grub, the yorkshire puddings were burnt almost black. My wife had oysters and six hours later had terrible diarhea.
So, wont be going back there again. Overhyped, nothing special.
Wonderful vegetarian lunch selections , good attentive service from everyone. Rooms could do with a refresh .
Always good to go back to.
We returned to L’Ortolan about 4 weeks after our first visit and tasting menu as we had enjoyed it so much. This time we took my mother and dined with Nest at L’Ortolan and had the most fantastic Sunday lunch, the food was equally incredible to the fine dining and the service was lovely and undiminished. We went at a bit of a funny time Mid-afternoon so it was pretty empty so there was not a significant buzz but it meant we got to enjoy each other’s company, and we left with mother asking when she could come back - a very good sign indeed!
This is an excellent restaurant and fails to disappoint. We had not been since it launched its Bistro and called it the nest and to be perfectly honest apart from the menu we did not notice any difference. Its still rather expensive and for 3 courses the bill for 4 of us was almost £300.00 but we did have two bottles of wine and some pre lunch drinks.
As always when I have had a meal I have been overawed at how beautifully prepared and presented the food was. The waiters were kind, happy and helpful. The wine waiter even helped me understand some of the choices and insisted on providing tasters. The meal was so so delicious. I wanted to lick the plate!
An experience that everyone should try.
I made my views about the food known at the time. It was well below their normal standard.
I cannot recommend their Sunday roast.
Another top evening of dining, its just so very good the food ,the staff all make it a perfect evening and at a reasonable price . Can't recommend it enough.
Everything was perfection, food, ambiance a great experience.
Food was lovely, staff polite and very hopeful, because of COVID-19 it was lacking atmosphere. Overall a great experience, but no it would of been better pre Covid.
We had lunch Bistro, great food, brilliant service , thank you .
The food is always so imaginative with wonderful combinations of flavours. We keep returning even though it requires some travel. It is always worth it!
We ate at the Bistro and had the Platter to Share which we enjoyed followed by
Moules mariniere the chicken and pea terrine which were both delicious. For main we both choose Braised Lamb, tomatoe fondue and side of Potatoes Pont Neuf and ratatouille, again this was all delicious, however we both found the lamb a tiny bit dry, there was only a tiny amount of jus on the plate and a little more would have made it perfect. I had strawberry fool, lemon balm for dessert which was very nice and my husband chose White chocolate mousse, blueberry, lavender which he also enjoyed.
I marked down a score purely based on “ ambience” I realise that due to current circumstances there is a limit to the amount of tables allowed but the seating of these made me feel a little uncomfortable, my seat was positioned in such a way that 3 people opposite had direct line of sight every time I looked up which I found awkward. There were on tables clothes, if the tables had been a bit more decorative that may have been ok, but sadly they were not. I would hope to return as the food was delicious, excellent service and great value.
Good quality food presented very well and good service. Would only say there should have been a slightly larger choice of main menu. 1 fish main , 1 meat (lamb) and 1 veggie dish.
As always the food and service was fantastic. Would definitely recommend a visit
Service and communication was excellent the food was exceptional. We had Sunday lunch. It was divine. The beef was tender and the pork was cooked to perfect including the crackling.
Great experience. Food was delicious, service impeccable.
Second time I’ve been to the nest. Not quite as nice as first time. Service not quite as good, several things not available and on a limited menu that made a big hole. On the positive, what I had was very nice.
The whole family loved it. Really nice meal. You can tell everything is to the highest standards. From the time you enter till you leave, it’s all excellent.
Already asked a few friends to book it so they can have a lovely experience too.
A very pleasant and relaxed lunch. Very nice to be back once again.
The Bistro choice is limited but the food is excellent (the stone bass was exceptional). Very good coronavirus safety measures.
very well laid out room, staff were very professional throughout, food was first class as always. a very enjoyable experience, one that we would repeat.
Good to be able to revisit after so many months. We dined in the new Nest for their Sunday lunch which was very good, although we will revert back to their excellent fine dining in future.
It was our first time at L’Ortolan. It was nice - good food, very good service, a peaceful place.
We enjoyed the occasion and the whole dining experience with a very individual presentation of the menu, which was a real treat and the best we have had locally.
Lovey setting. Staff attentive. Food gorgeous. Especially the apple tart tatin - the pastry was to die for, the apples with just the right amount of crispness and tart, and that caramel, so gooey and sticky. OMG delicious!!! It’s for two, but Dave would have eaten it all if I didn’t get in there first!! PS: Also loved the pea purée, but managed to get it all down my boobs!!!
Good food and great Covid 19 observance
Confusion was how I would describe the opening 15 minutes
We had booked for the Bistro menu.
On arrival we were shown to the assumed Bistro area for dining but were told that due to food refrigeration problems the only menu was the seven course dining experience.
We indicated that we booked the Bistro and that it was we wanted
Strangely this menu then arrived!
We chose the two starters
Moules and sardines
Both were Ok but would comment that a starter for Moules with 5 closed shells is not my idea of fine dining even in a bistro area
The lamb was great as were the 3 vegetables dishes selected
Two bottles of IPA bitter and a glass of tap water came to £95
With government support Included this is not my idea of value for money
Wonderful quality food from Bistro at lunchtime. Maybe more choices to be even better.
