New Chapter Ratings and Reviews
We had a wonderful evening meal in New Chapter. The restaurant is in a more residential area than we were expecting - about 25 minute walk from Edinburgh centre where we were staying but it was worth the walk. The food was amazing - everything is presented so well and tastes wonderful! The only downfall was that we were never asked if we wanted dessert (which we really did!). We eventually got the servers attention and ordered some really lovely dessert but we almost missed out on this! Would be nice to have a cocktail menu also but the wine list was extensive. Overall I would definitely recommend New Chapter.
Our friends had recommended the New Chapter as a place with amazing food and service and we were not disappointed. All our food was cooked perfectly and tasted fantastic
The wine was at a reasonable price and the servers were at hand through out the night. we all enjoyed the background music which was mellow and relaxing
The restaurant began to get busier with bookings as the evening went on which is a great sign.
We would definitely go to this restaurant again.
Outstanding! This was my second time in New Chapter and was not disappointed to go back. Food is amazing and reasonably priced. The service is good and very friendly. It is just around the corner so I will be going back. PS: I had had mackerel in my first visit and it was superb! Unfortunately, it wasn't in the menu this time. I am hoping it is seasonal and will be back in the menu.
Recently returned to New Chapter for lunch. Excellent as before. Great value and friendly servive. Starters of pate and hot smoked salmon were delicious as were mains of lamb & hake. Food was beautifully presented. The only thing I would say is the pesto herby dip was very salty as were the chips. I don't usually put salt on chips and lots of people don't use salt for medical reasons. I would leave it to the customer as there was salt on the table. Wouldn't stop me returning though.
2nd visit after we visited last time we were in Edinburgh. As always the food was amazing, so much flavour and presented perfectly. Plus it feels like I’m robbing them because it’s so cheap. Really friendly and helpful staff.
The only downside is we live over 150 miles away so can’t visit as often as we’d like.
Had the lunch menu here. Everything was great from the soup through to lamb for the main course. The mille feuille was a little over done. Excellent service not stuffy and very busy. Particularly good was our waitress who hadn't been working there very long. Would definitely go next time we are up in Edinburgh.
I chose this restaurant from positive customer reviews, and found the recommendations were all true. The dishes were inventive and well prepared, with some unexpected but very successful combinations of flavours. The menu is not huge, as the chef clearly concentrates on his strengths, but still has enough variety to provide plenty of options. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening, helped by great music!
Used a gift voucher given last Christmas.Meal was superb. Unusual choice of soup ingredients (black pudding and apple included!)- very tasty. Husband enjoyed salmon starter. Steak beautifully cooked. Efficient service by friendly but not overbearing staff. Good value for city dining. Would highly recommend.
Outstanding food and attentive service in a friendly laidback atmosphere - The New Chapter really does tick all the boxes for anyone wanting to eat food of the very highest quality, but without the stuffy atmosphere that is seemingly a feature of most restaurants hunting for those elusive Michelin stars. Our host was welcoming and knowledgeable. The wine list was short but with just enough choice to find something to meet our taste - perhaps this is the one area where the restaurant could be a bit braver and instead of offering multiple choices of the more obvious wine styles, could hunt out a few more low volume gems that would offer the same surprise and delight as the food. And so to the food, which really was the star of the show. Every dish was well thought out and beautifully balanced, allowing the freshness of the ingredients to shine through. Fish was cooked to perfection and even a foam executed with flavour - a skill which eludes many a talented chef! Finally, it would be wrong to end this review without a special mention for dessert, which was just as good as the previous courses (the test of a truly great eatery!). Beautifully executed and not too sweet, leaving us with huge smiles and the difficult task of trying to work out when we could make the 300 mile round trip to visit again.
I went here for Date Night with my partner of 5 years. We had a fantastic evening! The food was great, so was the wine! We were very well looked after by the staff but not too bothered or interrupted by them, The service was very fast but not rushed. Overall it was a great experience. New Chapter came highly recommended and it did not disappoint! I will definitely return! Thank you so much!
