This was a fabulous dinner. Half price bottle of pinot noir to begin. We had a mixed green salad, which was huge, and had the best salad dressing ever. I think she said maple syrup and citrus. We ordered the new york strip steak for 2. It came with scalloped potatoes and broccolini. The steak melted in our mouths with wonderful flavor. We loved this meal and will be back. Oh, yes, our waitress was perfectly lovely and the busboy was great!
Delicious food and excellent service. Their menu is constantly evolving so there’s usually something new to try and it’s pretty much always delicious. While it’s not an all vegetarian or vegan restaurant, there are usually plenty of vegetarian and/or vegan options on the menu and they’re tasty enough to satisfy most anyone, including those who aren’t vegetarian/vegan.
I was excited to return to a restaurant that I loved going to. I was disappointed. The menu was not as diverse as it was and the choices were limited. I will say that my steak was cooked to perfection. My friend has a serious allergy to dairy. We asked to have one of the salads with the cheese on the side. It came to the table with the cheese on top and a salad that we did not order.
It is still a fun place to go for a drink at the bar. I am not sure if I would choose to eat there again. I am sorry, really....I wanted it to be as delicious as it once was.
I would be willing to give it another try.
I waited an hour from ordering my food until the manager came out and told me they were out of what I ordered. I would not recommend this restaurant and I will not be going back.
We are very excited about the new chef at New World. We have followed the restaurant for years and we like what we taste in this iteration. It seems like the chef is rolling out his flavor profile in a planned, slower effort to give aficionados of the previous chef a chance to sample his ability to tickle our taste buds. We like it and have recommended that our friends stop in to see for themselves. I wish that there were more offerings but we’ll keep coming back in order to sample whatever Mother Nature and this chef put together. We also like the way they have spaced the tables. We felt safe removing our masks.
I just want to say that although there are few waitstaff that we recognize from before the pandemic, service has not suffered. We wish the previous staff our best and look forward to many meals with this staff.
The food was absolutely delicious. This was our 3rd time and we have had amazing apps and dinners each time. We will definitely be going back and will be bringing our friends.
Need to improve menu but great food served
This used to be my favorite restaurant in Albany, but it has changed significantly. There is a new chef and a new menu, and the food is okay but not fantastic, like it used to be. The bar is pretty much the same, with fresh Sloop Juice Bomb on draft, but we were very disappointed.
The only negative I would give on a good meal is one of us had the spinach pie and it was not that good. The pastry was soggy and not crispy and the filling was very “one note”. First time we had tried that and honestly not a fan. Everything else was great as usual and the service was fantastic, again as usual. Just that one dish that my wife had as her entree that disappointed.
Great tasting food, although I'm a large bloke and was still hungry afterwards.
Menu inventive, unique. Server most friendly and well informed. Her menu suggestions were right on the mark.
Bring back the New World bistro! This version is limited in its menu, paltry in itsportions and a shadow of the original. Make some interesting food! Bring back the meatloaf and the Thai choices.
Excellent meal with great service. Wonderful place for dining out.
It was delicious and definitely a do over!
good serving size, not a giant plate of food. priced right. i found the meal chose to be to salty, staff immediately asked me what i wanted and checked with me several times to make sure my new dish was ok.
Service amazing except for long wait for dessert.
There is a great selection of vegan options. Each was very delicious as well as my cocktail. Our dessert was wonderful as well. Service was excellent.
Great place to try something new. We had the Veg pancake and Spoon salad. They were really tasty. The cod and homemade pork sausage for the main courses were delicious. Our server, Casey was not only a great server but her recommendations were spot on. I recommend this restaurant and will go back!
My wife and I each had a seafood dish. Both were creative, fresh, and cooked to perfection. Chef Bauer has a keen knack for combining tastes and flavors that keeps us coming back for more. He also sources as much as possible from local producers which helps to support the local farmers. Service is friendly and attentive but not intrusive. You can't go wrong.
Not at all the restaurant is used to be. The menu was not distinctive and with small portions was not worth the cost. I will not return any time soon. This was one of my favorite restaurants when Rick was the owner and chef. I wish them luck, but there needs to be much more inspiration.
Our first time dining here, but definitely not our last. Lovely evening. Dined outdoors.
I concur with the reports I heard about the fabulous new chef. I also enjoyed the menu selections which I considered a perfect match of simple and elegant. I look forward to a changing menu to see what more this great chef has to offer!
My husband had the fried chicken which didn’t look like fried chicken and he said it was bland. Also menu said pickles and Cole slaw but he got snow peas instead. I had Gnocchi with bolognese sauce. The portion was very small and the sauce was salty. I asked for bread but the waitress said it would be a side and cost additional money. The waitress asked if everything was good and I said we didn’t enjoy it. She said sorry but never asked why. Drinks were good. Miss the old New World Bistro.
The menu was limited but has great potential to be what it once was but from a post-pandemic point of view the food we ordered and service was excellent. We’d like to see more flare and fusion on the menu. We will definitely be back and continue to sample different aspects of the menu as time goes on.
Server was lovely and attentive. Food was very good but not excellent. We were sitting in a drafty space and it was a little chilly.
The whole experience was very good. Really enjoyed my meal and was the perfect portion of food. Nightly recommended going there
Nice for an upscale yet casual meal. Really nice patio
I thought they had the same menu as before. Did not realize the chef changed and the menu was very small. Did not have a lot of offerings. I was disappointed. Wanted my daughter’s birthday to be T nice and enjoyable. It was a flop. She did not like the menu offerings. We ended up going sone place else to pick up dinner. Will not be returning to the New World Bistro in the future.
Last night I ordered all of the items off of the vegetarian menu and shared them with friends who were interested in checking out the new chef. I am sad to report that the New World bistro is no longer what it used to be. The food is mediocre at best. The quality of the food is poor and is crafted and cooked without much thought. Even the desserts were terrible. The only good thing that is left about new world bistro is their cocktail menu and the bartender who has been there for many, many years.
There were 3 of us for a night out. We couldn’t decide what to get so we shared 4 dishes and loved everything! Can’t wait to go back and try another 4 dishes!
Thank goodness Ian is cooking again. His food is great!
Great, Liz the gm is the best. Can’t wait to go back
Took my wife and son for Mother’s Day. Sat in the Bar area inside, which was very quant with and old rustic cozy feel. Food and drink l was fantastic - waitress Fiona was great.
Only problem - The menu was confusing between shared plates and entrees. We just asked a lot of questions. I’d go again for sure though.
So fabulous too be back to New World Bistro after more than a year
The old menu was so much better. These dishes did not excite me like the prior dishes did on the old menu. The eggs benedict dish I ordered was so small and for $16 I felt it was a rip off. The dishes used to be a decent size and unique. This was like the same old eggs benedict you can get at a diner. I miss the former NWBB.
We chose New World Bistro as our first date night out in a year and we were not disappointed. We got a table with a great view of the whole restaurant and the staff were exceptionally kind to us from the hostess to waitress to bartender. Looking forward to coming back with friends when we can.
The food combinations on the new menu were intriguing, and very tasty! The ramps gnocchi and grilled cod went well as entrees together. The desserts were divine! We sat on the patio, which was nice and quiet, good space between tables. It was cozy warm on a cool night thanks to the heaters. Alex was excellent waitstaff; informed about food specifics and attentive. Great place to celebrate a friend's birthday!
We had a wonderful experience celebrating my wife’s birthday. We sat at the bar and Kevin was a great host. We ate delicious food Chef Ian made and we were lucky to have Chef Ian pay us a visit. We were frequent customers at the original New World in Saugerties and we’ll make it a point to be frequent customers here in Albany. We have followed Chef Ian throughout and look forward to continuing doing so. Thanks for a great experience.
I feel like they have recaptured what New World used to be! Great flavors and innovation!
Great to be back here with a new menu and new chef. It did not disappoint!
