New York Kitchen
Such beautiful scenery to dine over ! Loved our waitress Amanda as well!
Had high hopes for evening & it fell apart. 2couples, not a busy night
Starter was calamari & charcuterie board. Was informed no more calamari (res was at 6:30!)..so sub angry shrimp. They were awesome! But 15 mins later, they had calamari again!
Dinner. I had butchers cut pork chop with risotto and grilled peach. Pork chop was perfect, risotto was good but a bit over salted (was edible). $23 good value.
My hubby had special...chipotle spare ribs..good but looked like they had been taken from a package. Sauce was too perfect on the ribs. For $28 was expecting better.
My friend had walleye. Also good but thicker end of fish was undercooked. Did not complain since portion was huge & it was just a few inches on the end. $28, given potion size, good value.
Her hubby had lobster Mac & cheese.....INEDIBLE. Way over salted. I didn’t taste it but his wife did & when compared to my risotto (borderline on the salt) said the Mac was like eating pure salt. Sent plate back & split the other 3 plates to him. Our server did apologize.
Now in most restaurants, you send a dish back, the manager pays the table a visit. In good restaurants, the chef comes out. Nothing. My friends hubby sought out the manager after dinner to be sure she was aware of the issue & her response was “we didn’t charge you for it”…...WHAT? No apology at all. As we were sitting there finishing our wine, something must’ve clicked. Our server brought glasses of champagne & manager stopped by to apologize saying she had a rough day. She offered a gift card which we accepted. One thing she mentioned was the wait staff ate the dish we sent back & it seemed okay. DISGUSTING!
Not sure who is running this place but it is not a professional staff. There were other small issues as well. Not a cheap meal & we expected so much better. Won’t be back. Trip advisor reviews not good either. Wish I read them first.
Only for the other features of the Center, not for the restaurant. We enjoyed the wine tasting and seeing the classrooms. Food took a very very long time to arrive and was tepid when we received it. Our server was apparently overwhelmed by the number of tables he was assigned, because we observed the other servers bringing our orders in a timely fashion. Sandwiches were overpriced for the value.
We were greeted in a timely and friendly manner by our hostess, Olivia. The staff...Rob, Sean and Amanda were very welcoming as always. Amanda gave excellent table service and met all of our food requests. A very welcoming and enjoyable evening as usual. Thank you. Beth and Ed
Had the vegetable lasagna entree. One of the best meals I have ever eaten. Service and am since is always good. Have been coming to this restaurant for many years. Always first rate!
Awesome Food, great service, great ambiance. Crab lobster fondue was delicious. Walleye dinner was spiced with rosemary and chive and was delicious. Joe our waiter was on point and offered great service. Outside views of lake added to special dinner. Bourbon toffee creme brûlée topped off the evening with a constant background of great wine. Coming back soon.
Very nice, food took a long time to come out but was delicious when it arrived
Great outside dining with view of lake.
The clubhouse turkey sandwich is not the same as a club sandwich. The menu clearly states clubhouse. I shouldn't have placed the order on seeing that rather than club sandwich. Then too I shouldn't have been disappointed, because I understand the difference. Still in either case I expect turkey slices that don't look like they just came from a plastic package. The ultimate club sandwich would have turkey that is sliced from a roasted turkey breast. I guess plastic packaged sliced turkey was at some time sliced from a turkey breast but the difference between freshly extracted from a turkey breast or pulled out of a plastic package is obvious. ............... So my poor review is based on a sandwich made with thin slices of turkey that were very salty and I suspect came directly from plastic. An aggravating factor in my rating was that the bread was over toasted and crumbled in my fingers. I have had some excellent dinners here, but the lunch menu doesn't really distinguish it from other lunch places.
The food was delicious, and the staff were wonderful. We had several food intolerances/allergies at our table, and the server was very well-versed in what was safe to eat and what should be avoided. Everything was delicious, well-cooked, and perfectly seasoned.
We had a dinner at the NY Kitchen last week and were a little disappointed with the amount of noise in the restaurant. It was very hard to have a conversation. The food was good and service was fair.
Friendly service food was fresh and spiced correctly
Eating on veranda was a treat
My wife and I have taken two food preparation classes each in the past, and enjoyed the education and atmosphere. This time we decided to try lunch. I enjoy Reuben sandwiches and decided to have that. I was very disappointed. There was very little corned beef which I mentioned to the waitress. I don't usually complain about food, but given the reputation of New York Kitchen I expected better. I wouldn't recommend it and certainly wouldn't have it again. We dined on a gift certificate from one of our daughters and still have credit left over. The menu is fine, but I will hesitate on the next choice I make.
What a wonderful afternoon. We came from out of town, and were so lucky to have such great weather as well.
I was so excited to try this restaurant after all the changes and with the new name. The staff were friendly. The food was excellent but there was a verrrry lonnnng wait for our entrees to arrive. Also waited too long to order a second glass of wine because our waitress was nowhere to be seen. When the second glass of wine did come, we were already done eating. This might not seem like a big deal but when you're paying these prices you expect them to get the timing right. Noisy motorcycles because we were sitting outside, but inside was too cold with strong air conditioning.
There are some tables with a nice lake view. Ask for them.
Great restaurant with amazing food, great service and beautiful location. Large selection of beverages. Many vegetarian choices on menu,
SO HAPPY we found NYK. A bunch of us were visiting Canadiqua from all over the country (Boulder, Portland (OR), Chicago and Kalamazoo) and were so impressed with every aspect of this place. The food was totally wonderful, the service great, atmosphere awesome and most of all the mission statement and all of the cool things NYK is doing made this a great place to support. The buffalo cauliflower unbelievable. Would also recommend that everyone stop by the Tasting Room on the way out, and walk the beautiful garden outside.
Amanda our server was great, thank you. The only negative was the noise level. The band, who were very good, and the acoustics made it impossible to converse at the table. Luckily we were able to be relocated to the terrace.
We were here before a concert at CMAC. We had reservations at 5:15 but arrived about 4:45 and were seated immediately outside. Great view of the lake. After only bringing water for 3 (there were 4 if us— she did she was told there were only 3?) we were promptly informed by our sever that she couldn’t take dinner orders until after 5:00 —we were given the dinner menu... No worries. We ordered drinks and a couple of appetizers. Took a little while, but the cauliflower was great, pretzels were good too. Ordered dinner — broiled fish, battered fish, pork chop and crab cakes. The wait was long —the waitress came back a couple of times and said it should be any minute. When we finally got our food — it was cold!!Everyone’s was cold. How does that happen? The fish and pork chop had great flavor, and would have been perfect if it was hot. The crab cakes (which the server recommended) were more cake than crab. We did chat with a couple of other diners in the ladies room and they had the same experience—cold food! I would have thought at least one of our dishes would be hot. Nope. Not sure if it’s the fault of the kitchen or the servers. Such a shame. We didn’t complain because we didn’t have time to wait. Also, I’m glad I called and asked about the shuttle to CMAC. They said they do run one, but not for this concert. Okay... while we were waiting for our Uber, people asked if this was the stop for the shuttle. Apparently they were told it was running —it wasn’t. If we come back for another concert, we might give them another chance, but they need to get their act together. Cold food should be easy to fix!
My wife and I went there early on a week day and there was almost no one there. Given this fact, you would expect the meal to be very good because the kitchen should not be really busy. My wife ordered the Vegan Mushroom Leek and Pea Risotto. She gets Risotto a lot because she needs to eat gluten free and really loves risotto. When it arrived, the risotto, rather than being creamy, as is usually the case at other restaurants, was pressed flat into the bottom of her bowl and was very firm, bordering on hard. She tried it and was unimpressed and so she asked for my opinion. I reached over with my fork, and no exaggeration, I had a hard time pushing my fork into the risotto. I agreed that it had almost no flavor. I had ordered Chicken and Artichoke French which is one of my favorites when I go out. The chef, rather than dipping the chicken and artichokes in egg wash, appears to have poured the excess egg into the pan because each of the artichoke pieces had a fair amount of cooked egg around it. Additionally, the artichokes were not substantial pieces of artichoke but each appeared to be a single leaf. In total, I don't think all put together that there was even one artichoke heart on my plate. The chicken was okay but not even in the same league as other places we have been. Our server was very nice and gave great service which was the highpoint of the visit there. At the end of the meal, the only good thing my wife and I could say was that we were full. With tip and tax we spent $50.00 which my wife remarked, "well that was $50.00 we just wasted". Sadly, for all the hype that this place has, the food is sub-par and well below that of a chain restaurant. We will never go back there again, despite being in that area often.
After 90 minutes our entrees hadn’t arrived and we needed to leave for a concert. Seems to be a problem with the kitchen/ wait staff were trying their best but if there’s no food to bring they can’t do much. They comped our appetizers so I appreciate they were trying but our date night dinner was a bust.
So disappointed in NYK. We were looking forward to taking our out-of-town friend there for dinner. Our table was not ready. Not a problem. Went to the bar to wait for a table. Ordered gin and tonics at the bar. Served with soda water instead. Twice! Tonic not available on a hot summer night. Not good. Had to order other drinks instead. Our "bad" drinks sat at the bar in front of us. Surprised we were charged for the drinks. Unfriendly bartender. Friendly service at dinner but slow. Pizzas and meatballs were very good. Salad was nothing special. Sorry to say, we will not go back anytime soon.
Great wine tasting experience and wonderful food! We loved it!
Our food was delicious. We went for dinner on a Saturday, so it was busy, and some of the other patrons were obnoxiously loud, but we had a great experience. Their fries with Aoili sauce are to.die.for! We will definitely go back again!
The food was good, however, the service was underwhelming. We made a reservation at mid day for 7 of us made a few days prior. The hostess told us they were very booked up and we had to be seated at a table over in the corner of the bar area despite having a reservation. The table only 5 place settings so we had to steal 2 off the table next to us.
Once everyone decided on drinks (they have a great drink menu) we were told they did not have most of what we ordered. The waitress, who wasn't real friendly, came back and said we must of grabbed an old menu. It was placed on our table, how could we manage to grab an old one? There were a few other things, one forgotten drink we had to ask again for, menu items out of stock, it was over an hour before the food arrived, etc, so overall it was not a great experience. Also, they do not have Italian dressing or anything similar (on this day at least) which I thought was odd but the honey ginger balsamic was very good.
I expected more given the price range and was hoping it'd be a nice treat for the family but we all left a bit disappointed.
The food was amazing and we loved the shuttle to CMAC! Thank you!
It was a wonderful experience - hostess and server were fantastic
Both my meal and my husband's were a disappointment. The filet (steak and frites) was chewy and had a bad flavor. The fries were soggy and cold. My husband had a featured meal, chipotle ribs. The ribs were a poor cut and under cooked so that much of the fat was not rendered out. We would prefer smaller portions and a quality cut of meat over a large portion that tasted terrible. The restaurant itself had great atmosphere, but the food was a huge failure.
The upstairs restaurant was beautiful and the food was delicious. It was nice to know that so much of the food was grown locally and that you support local businesses.
Maybe. As usual your service is very slow.
Outside was lovely but my out of town guest looked at a parking lot and construction sit.
Our server Sean was outstanding and the food was great !
I found the it to be very noisy and our waiter never checked to see how our food was or if we wanted additional drinks. I felt as though once our order was placed we were forgotten about. There was music playing in the lounge area and it was very noisy in the dining room.
Our experience was odd — a beautiful evening but we were not allowed to sit outside. (After being given the choice by the hostess, then taken away...)
A wonderful meal, beautiful ambiance and service was great.
I can’t comment on the food because after an hour and 15 minutes all we had was bread and one drink, and we only got bread because my wife asked for it after we had been sitting there for 30 mins and saw bread on other tables. As we were leaving the waiter was just approaching our table with an appetizer of grilled shrimp. I told him to take it back to the kitchen and just give us a bill for drinks. He offered to comp the drinks as an apology but I left 20 bucks on the table. The waiter blamed a large party but clearly this place doesn’t have its act together. Incidentally, it was 45 minute drive from our home to get there. Never again.
It was our anniversary and we were visiting Sonnenberg Gardens and then made reservations for 6:30. We arrived about 5:00 and decided to see if they could accommodate us early. They were very helpful and eager to please. Our waitress was wonderful and our dinners were very good. We had a beautiful view of Canandaigua Lake. It was very pleasant.
Based on this visit, I would not recommend visiting the restaurant portion of NY Kitchen again. We've enjoyed the cooking classes and tasting room numerous times, but the service was simply awful when our group dined for a late lunch this past Saturday in the restaurant. We had a reservation, but the place was not busy. Despite that, we waited over an hour for food. Mind you we were told we could not order appetizers and entrees separately - we had to order everything at once, including drinks - so we obliged but were sorely disappointed when the inevitable happened... our appetizers arrived 5 minutes before our entrees, which completely defeats the point of ordering them. Also, they forgot one of the entrees and that individual waited an additional 20 minutes to receive her food but nothing was offered to our table to correct for the mistake. Our waiter did not check on us the entire time we had our food. The majority of us had empty drinks for the entirety of our meal. Overall, really poor experience and unfortunately the first time visiting NY Kitchen for several in our party - they won't be back.
We really enjoyed our dining experience and can't wait to return. It was very relaxing, the service was wonderful and the food amazing. We rarely eat out so it was a real treat!!
The food was great. We were very surprised with the service. We were told they had the bartender call in, and they were short. It was just odd that they had no extra help. Waited 20 minutes for our beer and ginger ale. The neighbouring tables were not bussed and sea gulls were attempting to steal the scraps. The server had no clue about what the specials included or details about the specials. The manager should have stepped in and assisted to full in the gaps for drinks, refills and bussing.
