No1 Ship Street
The Ground Floor Restaurant is a 46 cover Modern British brassiere.
Another superb visit! Looking forward to a revisit.
Great value for fine food and excellent wine list. We started with bread and olives and with such a big amount of very good bread decided against a starter.
Both choosing a fish special the skate wings were so large couldn’t finish, a shame as beautifully cooked, as was the side vegetable. Very good range of wines.
Service excellent, a very friendly and helpful waitress. Very relaxed atmosphere.
We save it for birthdays and anniversaries but it is so reasonable you could go anytime for a first-class meal.
We have been on several previous occasions. The food was very good BUT they were a bit skimpy on the roast beef - it was beautifully cooked but two meagre slices looked a bit frugal. I ordered 9 oysters - and was charged for six and then another three - a cheap way, I thought, for the restaurant to increase the bill. Nevertheless we have booked again.
Lovely fish and good cocktails! A little noisy but relaxed set up with good quality food - although my husbands devil kidneys favourite is getting smaller every visit. Will keep coming back though as best supper in Oxford
Skate wings cooked to perfection.
I‘am sorry, nur my english is too bad to give a adequate and fair Review.
Six of us went for lunch on a Saturday for my son's birthday and had a great time. The food and wine choices were really good and there was something to suit everyone. The food and table service could not be faulted. The ingredients were obviously fresh and cooked beautifully. This is a really good restaurant right in the middle of Oxford and we thought it was great value. We will certainly be back.
Superb food in a lovely location! Husband andI went here for lunch and were not disappointed! Both had the steak, which was absolutely delicious (you could tell it was high quality meat) and the fries that came with it might have been the best I’ve ever had! The atmosphere is very nice as well and the staff is attentive. Will definitely return
I would highly recommend the restaurant the service and food, fabulous.
We enjoyed everything about our lunch at No1 Ship Street. The decor is pleasing and the layout is such that you don’t feel on top of your neighbours despite the tables being close together. Our meals were beautifully presented and the food was delicious. I enjoyed some very good Spanish wine and we also asked for tap water which was delivered with no hesitation. The service was excellent; attentive without being intrusive. I will happily return to No1 Ship Street next time I am in Oxford.
Excellent dinner which exceeded expectations, Moules, lamb with cockles, John Dory all superb. Thank you!
We loved our evening out at this restaurant (with our son) - all of us enjoyed our meals. The service was excellent. Great selection of wine. Lively ambiance - possibly too noisy for some people. We had difficulty conversing although we happened to be seated next to some particularly excitable people. It didn't spoil our evening - we would definitely recommend No. 1 Ship Street and we will most certainly be heading there again.
First time dining here and had a great first meal. It was a busy Saturday night, but not uncomfortably so. The waiters were professional but relaxed at the same time. The food is certainly not cheap but our meals were of great quality and very tasty! Would definitely recommend and come back.
It was OK.. just a bit over-priced for a rather average experience
Very nice spot. Food was OK but disappointing for the price and given the ambiance.
Great meal - excellent fish offer well presented - service slow but good ambiance
Delicious menu choices. Set lunch is great value though we gave into temptation and chose fish dishes from the a la carte menu. Fantastic service from the lovely Italian waitress. Many thanks we shall be back!
From the moment we arrived the staff were attentive. The menu promised a lot and delivered more. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit
An excellent meal, enjoying some authentic French foods and flavours. Very impressed with the memories of France evoked by the fish soup!
Very well looked after and very well fed. Pity about the music - or rather non-music - much better to leave the thump-thumps out altogether. If that’s what in-town eaters want, then I’ll stay away.
Good welcome, choice of tables. Short lunch menu but tasty dishes, good value and excellent informed service. We arrived at 12.30pm and restaurant relatively empty, but near full by the time we left. The tables are close together and both my companion and I were aware and distracted by a very loud table of four. A couple of other tables also appeared to notice the noise level. Nothing was said but think carefully where you sit if this something that matters to you. On all other counts a very welcome addition to the Oxford food scene!
Amazing clean and well prepared and thought about dishes. Great value for lunch.. will continue to visit
Wonderful food, excellent wine, attentive courteous service -- but do check the prices of the meals of the day!
I had an excellent dinner with my girlfriend. The service was good and very quick. Concerning the food, it was very good for for both of us. The waitresses were very kind and polite. I will come back for sure.
Delightful experience. The service was friendly, knowledgeable and humorous at times.
We were offered a free glass of champagne, I presume instead of a dessert as the restaurant
Was aware that it was my husbands Birthday.
The menu choice was small but varied and the specials were excellent. We choose lobster
And it was cooked to perfection. We will return although it really is an experience fir a special occasion.
Lovely food, particularly for fish lovers. Service was quite slow but great if you have all the time in the world...
I arrived a few minutes early for a lunch booking and was put in a very pokey seat with a tiny table although the restaurant appeared quiet. I asked to be moved to a larger table and the waiter was very accommodating and re-sited me in a larger table in the front of the restaurant.
We were not in a rush and the waiter occasionally and politely asked if we were ready to order - without hassling us.
The food was good - and the service discrete
We had a very pleasant meal
Excellent lobster meal. Attentive service. Would definitely go here again.
A welcome upgrade to the fairly dismal food scene in downtown Oxford. Very dark interior (black walls) offers a striking venue and sets a sophisticated tone. Interesting menu - my Oysters were great. Food also notably hot (temperature), a welcome change. Prices are on the high side, certainly more stockbroker than student friendly, but so are hotels in Oxon.
Unfortunately the lobster I ordered didn't have that much meat on it but the staff were helpful and acted accordingly. Shame though but I would go again.
We arrived early but our table was available and we were seated immediately. Our first server was overly attentive at first but soon adjusted to the pace we wished to order and dine at.
Fabulous weekend lunch with a huge choice of well sourced options on the menu. Incredible to find somewhere this central that offers high quality ingredients on both their three-course set lunch (£12.95) menu or their pricier a la carte selection.
Sorry to say that the food was underseasoned in the extreme, save for overly salty mussels mariniere. The fish of the day, Plaice, was cooked perfectly and topped with fresh peas and greens, beautiful, but low on flavor. A "Spring Cassoulet" can such a dish exist?-- featured a meatball of dry, livery tasting chicken in an ok brothy bean mix that was short on beans. Some of our opinions are undoubtedly a difference in taste between Americans and Brits, but we were truly disappointed following the meal.
Great food, wonderful ambience, charming service and not too loud music. All in all, a lovely post-theatre supper. I shall certainly recommend your restaurant to friends and family!
We had an excellent meal here. Fish soup and oxtail ravioli were particularly good. Very reasonably priced for quality of the food.
Pretty good all round choice - good seafood selection p
Fantastic restaurant, attentive staff. Great food, highly recommended
The staff were amazing and the food was glorious. We had a fantastic Mothering Sunday dinner at No1!
Great! Everything was delicious. Very fresh oysters, lovely wine and tasty mains.
Awesome. Nothing else to say.
