Really lovely food, albeit only from the set lunch menu, so quite a narrow choice. But what we had was really very good, with the two fish courses perfectly cooked and seasoned, with some really nice little touches. Great value at £16.95 for three courses
Had he texted Everything tasted great. I had the terrine then the chicken and my husband had devilled kidneys and then dover sole. The waitress was very friendly and attentive and recommended my soft drink of pomegranate and basil tonic, which was very pleasant.
Could not fault it
Thank you for a lovely evening
We went to Number 1 Ship Street for a birthday lunch. The venue has a nice ambiance and the servers were friendly and helpful. I had the set lunch menu which although quite small was very much what I wanted at lunch time. It was all very tasty and very good value. My other half had two items from the A la carte menu both of which he said were very well cooked and tasty. I would happily recommend this as a good find in the centre of Oxford. We will return.
Great friendly service. Amazing food, beautifully presented. Wonderful setting and ambiance. Would definitely recommend without hesitation!
What an amazing restaurant. Service was outstanding, service was too. The food was totally amazing, the best sirloin I have ever tasted. The lobster was just prefect. I hope nothing changes next time we visit.
Best pork belly I’ve ever had and the staff were kind enough to move us to better seating
First time in this restaurant. Excellently oysters! We had the roasted vegetables as a main which were very tasty although needed a little more seasoning to bring out the best flavours. And the panna cotta dessert was very good too.
Service was also excellent and friendly.
A thoroughly lovely evening with delicious food no very friendly staff. We chose from the day’s specials board, so it’s always worth having a look at that in addition to the menu.
A lovely, cosy little restaurant with excellent food.
Lovely setting, great service, good good and wine. Would definitely return
Unfortunately, we feel pretty disappointed after our second visit here. The service was below expectations, it felt like a mid-range place rather than the fine dining place they advertise. We were crammed in a corner behind a door; the waiting felt subpar and rushed and they forgot to bring out our appetizers. About food, while the lobster was as expected, the scallops appetizer was drenched in oil and the brill special was plain, accompanied by overcooked vegetables. The most annoying part of the £29 dish was the fact they topped everything with very cheap mayo they labelled as aïoli. We had very fond memories of our first visit there a couple of years ago, but this visit will definitely keep us away for a while.
Lobsters are tasty. Homemade butter are very good.
Food and service were excellent. Will definitely return.
Perfect long, lazy Saturday lunch with friends, food drink and service all excellent.
Wonderful lunch due to excellent service, food and ambiance. Recommend and will be back
Very disappointed with bland chicken main course but was offered alternative and partial refund. Very good service
We chose scallops and courgette flower to start. Both were tasty and very well presented. Steak as mains did not disappoint, tender and ‘melt’ in mouth.
We went for the set lunch, the food was delicious. Fresh, flavoursome ingredients superb quality. Friendly and relaxed service would highly recommend. If we come back to Oxford would definitely choose to visit for an evening meal.
Happy to have found this restaurant. Service was efficient & friendly. The food was very good, plenty to choose from. Wine was reasonably priced. Coffee was served late but not charged for, so no worries.
A lovely meal, all really enjoyed. The staff very attentive, though did feel that maybe they could give a bit longer between courses as felt a bit rushed
This is an elegant, discerning restaurant much needed in Oxford.
I predominantly had the set lunch menu with a glass of champagne.
The tastes and quality of the food is sublime. It has the air of having a fine wine list. Stylish surroundings indeed and I am a great supporter of the independent restauranteur. I think more can be made of this.
I would have liked them to acknowledge my birthday and to put a stair rail to the downstairs toilets.
Outstanding set lunch. Smoked Mussel salad was won of the best dishes I’ve eaten in a long time. Will be back for sure
Excellent food, friendly knowledgable staff and great atmosphere!
This was a first rate restaurant with delicious well prepared food and lovely wines. Great ambiance and great service from the staff. Definitely recommend.
We came on the Oxford tube to bring friends to eat at this lovely restaurant. The service is friendly and the food excellent. We'll be back again. Thanks
Perfect atmosphere, perfect staff, perfect food, perfect everything!
Delightful ambience, delicious food and drink and excellent service. Thank you
Great place for a post theatre dinner. Food was very good but limited options. Overall I would highly recommend.
Found this restaurant by chance on trip advisor. Really enjoyed the visit and it was only 5 mins from the hotel. The overall ambience was very comfortable and the decor was great. Food was very good and cooked to perfection. The Champagne cocktails went down a treat. Overall I would definitely return
Delicious food, a good ambiance and very comfortable. Service good too.
I loved the cosy ambience in the No.1. The service was incredible and the food was divine! I highly recommend the sirloin steak that came with triple cooked chips and peppercorn sauce. The steak was cooked perfectly and the peppercorn sauce was amazing. I asked the waiter to suggest a glass of red and enjoyed the Primitivo Negroamaro, which was so smooth. I can’t rave about this place highly enough!
Lovely food, good friendly service, nice atmosphere
Excellent food and ambience, though the service seemed to be hurrying us to finish the food. We would appreciate more time for conversing if possible.
First time visit to no 1 ship street and I can say it was a very pleasant experience and it wont be long before we visit again. A mouth watering menu with a selection that made me want to try everything. Great ambiance and excellent service from the moment we arrived to leaving at the end of our meal at no time did we feel rushed or under pressure. looking forward to our next visit
Would highly recommend this restaurant. I had the Lobster and it was very well cooked and presented. Overall the meal was excellent quality, as was the service .
This is the second time we have been to this restaurant and we can’t fault it. The food is simple yet delicious (although I am sure it is not simple to prepare). The attention to detail is excellent and service attentive and friendly. We will definitely come again.
Friendly staff tasty food really welcoming
Food was tasty but our waitress was not very knowledgeable. Restaurant too dark needed a torch to see menu some of the items over priced
A lovely meal for my Dad’s 80th birthday. Food was delicious.
My main, Skate wing & ink risotto was so great! Also fresh oysters were really creamy and juicy! Highly recommend.
