No1 Ship Street - Ground Floor Ratings and Reviews
Lovely restaurant perfectly placed in central Oxford.
Service, even on a busy Friday night, was excellent, and we were treated to delicious food. We started with oysters and trout salad, which were very good. Our mains were delicious fresh, perfectly cooked turbot and a pheasant with innovative boned leg treatment.
Will be going again.
I had a great birthday meal at No.1 Ship Street. A nicely decorated restaurant and the food was delicious. It was hard to find a posh restaurant in Oxford that had more than one vegetarian dish on the menu so we went with this restaurant and the food did not disappoint. Worth the money. The staff were welcoming and polite.
Came for a family lunch on a busy Sunday in Oxford. Service was friendly and good. Drinks menu was comprehensive as well. Good atmosphere although quite noisy and sometimes difficult to be heard.
Food was tasty and well presented but disappointed that they had run out of burgers which I thought would've been a staple item to have plenty of!
Generally good value but paying for the restaurant's own filtered water is never a goodwill builder. Complimentary filtered water would make me more inclined to have another cocktail!
Would definitely visit again but would ring ahead to ensure adequate burger supplies.
Really good addition to Oxford's dining scene, helped mightily by the fact that many of the staff appear to be ex-Branca. They've certainly brought their excellent service skills with them and the food was really good, lamb's kidneys particularly recommended. Quite grown up, though, so probably not for younger kids.
The menu is short but unusual and interesting. We had the lambs kidneys and the steak tartare for starters - both excellent, the kidneys wonderfully delicious with a really gorgeous sauce that isn't even mentioned on the menu - and the flat-iron steak for mains - perfectly cooked - however frozen chips. The refurbishment of the previously shabby Georgian building is absolutely superb, and the cocktail ba on the first floor wonderfully welcoming and elegant. We were too full up for pudding, which I'm very sorry about for the puddings too were inventive and unusual (deep-fried white chocolate custard? Peanut butter parfait?) and though I don't normally approve of people tinkering with classic dishes I admit I would have liked to tried to try Flaming Fruit Brulee. Really wonderful. I also can't wait to try their breakfast menu which looks delicious.
I was very impressed with my whole evening. A warm and friendly greeting , great atmosphere and comfortable decor. The menu offered a good variety of dishes. The food was excellent and served by polite and helpful staff. I would recommend No 1 Ship Street for any occasion and will definitely return.
Service was friendly and quick, good value for money.
Pleasant evening meal with friends.
Foods is good, but too much vinaigrette in my hot smoked trout salad. Pity not to give attention to the detail such as this. Silver mullet was fine, but our friend's vegetarian main of 'beetroot dish is just a starter salad in main quantity.
Still, a good place to have in the area. We will try upstairs next time.
