very nice welcome at Sunday lunch. Service a little slow for us as we had to get a away for an afternoon performance. Might be worth checking at the start if your guests are time restricted
The food was out of this world exquisite and the service was exceptional. We had the frogs legs to start with the garlic and parsley dipping sauce. It was amazing! Followed by the rib of beef sharing platter with a whole lobster, the beef melted in the mouth and the lobster was cooked to perfection and it was the perfect portion size. The atmosphere was cozy and buzzing. The owner is a bit of a hottie to boot! Five stars and we have all booked to go back in May already.
Lovely experience and Oxford needs a few more places like this. Appreciated the time to have an aperitif and consider the menu. Service was efficient, friendly (but not too much) and informative. The smoked mussels were fabulous, the rabbit delicious and the dessert made us laugh. Keep doing what you're doing!
It was our first time at No1. The restaurant is very comfortable and relaxing. The menu and specials board were excellent. I had the oysters and plaice both of which were extremely fresh, well prepared and cooked. The service was efficient and prompt.
I will be returning.
Lovely evening with cocktails in the bar upstairs first
A nice dining experience. Menu offered good options, food was prepared to a very good standard and good portions, service was friendly and meal was well paced, not rushed. Will definitely return.
Excellent food and service, offering something a little different from other restaurants in the centre of Oxford.
One of the best meals I’ve had in a very long time: every dish - and we sampled a lot! - was tasty and attractive, perfectly seasoned, and in most cases generously proportioned for the money. The staff were knowledgable and amiable, without being intrusive, and the decor is right up my street. Highly recommended.
Great food and good service. The grilled beef platter is amazing. This place deserves to be a lot busier than it currently is. It's quite pricey though.
Excellent surroundings complemented by good food and good service
Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here, our first visit. Tasty mussels in delicious creamy sauce with fresh bread. Good wine and very good service. Good table with plenty of room and we weren't hassled to eat and run. We recommend and will return.
A stylish, atmospheric restaurant in the heart of Oxford that offers a sumptuous menu and well-chosen wine list. Can't wait to go back again!
Second visit and loved it again. Service was efficient and polite. Food was tasty and creative. Would go again!
Lovely place with a warm and inviting atmosphere. Quite pricy but the food was beautifully made and it was a lovely place to go on an evening.
Really great evening at No 1 Ship Street - staff were friendly, warm and attentive, the Ground Floor had a classy yet cosy vibe to it and the menu had a good selection at a reasonable cost. Would definitely recommend for a special meal out.
Superb fish and meat dishes with excellent vegatables all arriving nicely cooked and piping hot. We were four celebrating Mother’s Day and enjoyed the experience very much. The lobster bisque, smoked trout salad starter, and fruit brulee and chocolate puddings were especially noteworthy. Good ambience, and service was efficent with room to improve on smiles and warmth/interest. Food was good value but wine list expensive with limited choice. Overall a lovely time and would definitely book again.
The menu choice is quite limited and has a very wide range of prices between dishes - special for two at £100; burger at £14. Rather limited wine list with too few lower-priced wines. Great food, service and ambience.
My daughters and I had a very happy Not-quite-Mothering-Sunday lunch at No.1 Ship Street. The service was charming and friendly, perfectly timed. The roast beef was perfectly cooked and so tasty that there were empty plates all round! No.1 is effortlessly smart yet chic and our table was perfect for easy conversation. I will definitely go back to try more of the menu.
Great cocktails upstairs. Friendly staff and fabulous good with 3 vegetarian options.
Lovely warm atmosphere despite the snowy weather. Menu had a good selection, everything was delicious.
The staff gave a friendly warm welcome and did not come over to often. The cocktails they made were excellent. The main courses we had were the lamb shoulder and the pork belly. Both of which were excellent and beautifully presented. The lamb in particular was very tender and some of the best lamb I have tasted. The deserts were nice, but not as good as the main meal. We thought they were a bit over priced for the portion size. Overall a pretty venue, good food, great for a special occasion. We will go again, but not too often as it is rather expensive even by Oxford standards.
A must visit Oxford restaurant. The food is really top notch, the staff friendly and the décor is great. Certainly now my No.1 in Oxford!!
I booked this restaurant because the reviews were very good. I thought it was disappointing:
1) the choice of food is limited
2)the cassoulet was not good value for money
3)the young blond waitress on Saturday evening 24 February had a rude attitude
I will go and eat elsewhere next time I go to Oxford.
A fortunate discovery. Pleasant environs, charming and attentive staff, delicious and fun food served satisfyingly hot /cold appropriately.
Lovely relaxed evening for a special family get together, with a very tasty menu!
Great choice of drinks and a good and interesting menu and excellent service. Very good location and great atmosphere. Slightly quirky in a very good way.
My wife and I ate here for Valentine's Day and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Good ambiance, friendly staff and great tasting food at very reasonable prices. It felt like a fine dining experience on a pub budget. My only criticism is that they failed to bring out 2 side dishes that we ordered, however we didn't need them in the end as the portions were generous and the staff were quick to ensure we weren't charged. We will definitely be back.
Really pleased with our family Sunday lunch.
Superior food , good value and we enjoyed the dining experience hugely.
Wonderful meal with terrific wine - a great new spot in town. The service was attentive and friendly and the food was perfect. We hope to be back soon.
We visited this restaurant for the first time while spending a weekend in Oxford. Very nicely decorated, cosy and welcoming, with tasty food and a good choice on the menu. Recommended.
Great venue, nice decor.....efficient but cold staff - no warmth or customer interaction apart from the basics. All very functional really.
Wine and food choices good, however food is nothing speculative - no wow factor, just okay.
We've eaten here on a number of occasions and it's nice to see a new restaurant in Oxford that offers a variety to customers. Service is always friendly and efficient, regardless of whether the place is quiet or really busy.
Excellent food from an interesting menu. Food was prepared and presented well. Service was good. Restaurant was a little chilly, but it was a cold day.
Ate lunch here on Fri 5Jan for a special birthday. The food was excellent, and service was very good. Would recommend it.
Excellent evening. Visited for a special occasion and the Food and service were both spot on.
Fabulous service and delicious food once again . Highly recommend this elegant restaurant in the heart of Oxford .
We went in early on a Monday evening so very quiet, but service and food was good, and good value for central Oxford too. All 3 meals fresh, well executed, and tasty.
WAs really looking forward to visiting No1 Ship St and whilst overall I enjoyed the experience I have to say I felt fairly underwhelmed by some of the food myself and my partner received on the night. The service was excellent throughout, and the mushroom on toast starter I had was really very good, but things started to go downhill food wise at the main. I had a burger with fries and truffle mayo. The latter two elements were perfect, but the burger itself was undercooked and tasted and looked as though it came from a freezer packet. My partner's flatiron steak was cold very soon after it arrived on the table. For dessert I had a rich chocolate pot, which was as described though not terribly refined. This lack of refinement was also present in my partner's peanut butter parfait which came in two roughly cut slices which were quickly too sickly to finish. The wine offering was good and the ambience was pleasant, but on balance I didn't feel the meal represented good value for money. Overall I'd say the restaurant is nearly there, but it will be a while before I return.
Lamb kidney appetizer was superb. Best I have ever had.
