No1 Ship Street - Ground Floor
The Ground Floor Restaurant is a 46 cover Modern British brassiere.
Starter was ok main meal very poor. It was a pork roast meal. Everything about it was tasteless and very little of it. Very little meat in amongst the fat. One carrot and 2 roast potatoes is a joke. Tasteless gravy.
Like public toilets .... just awful
Visited for lunchtime set menu. Food outstanding and excellent value. Great place to catch up with a colleague. Would highly recommend and will return.
Visited here for first time on NYE. Service and food good but was dead by 10.30/11. Would visit here again for normal evening but did feel they could have done a bit more considering NYE no reference to it at all.
Lovely atmosphere and excellent service. The food was excellent and great value for money
I went for a meal with my partner on NYE in the Ground Floor Restaurant. The place was quiet and we asked to move tables as the first one was in a tiny corner behind a large group! The hostess was very obliging, and our orders were taken quickly. The food was excellent and the service was good, although we did have to wait a while to pay the bill. All in all it was a lovely atmosphere, and I will be back for a second visit.
Food was faultless and had a good experience just missing touches that make a restaurant truly fab, for example not topping up wine/water when glasses were empty. Also were put on a corner/window table which was pretty cramped when the restaurant was pretty quiet.
We were celebrating the 17th anniversary of our becoming a couple, it was the last Saturday before Christmas and Oxford was buzzing with festive shoppers. The restaurant is very centrally located, close to the Christmas Market. It was tastefully decorated, we were made to feel welcome upon arrival and there was a nice ambience. The food we ordered was delicious. We would most definitely return next time we are in Oxford.
Delicious food in a lovely warm and welcoming setting. Excellent service and superb cocktails!
Nice restaurant, good ambience. Very attentive staff but not overly attentive. Fair price in comparison of other restaurants with high quality food.
Had booked a table and offered one in centre of room, requested a window seat which was accommodated. Service was faultless, knowledgable and friendly. Menu options simple but still a wide variety to suit all tastes.
Booked again for January with family!
Booked a table for our anniversary. Staff were fantastic and so efficient. You never wait for anything and the food was absolutely stunning and at a very reasonable price for what you receive. Myself and my wife had a fantastic evening Highly recommend
We only tried this restaurant for the first time last month, on the recommendation of a friend, but have been back a couple of times since. The set lunch menu is astonishing value. Staff are great - welcoming and very friendly. Food excellent, nice wine list.
Wonderful service, ambience and outstanding food. Will definitely be back
Nice ambience, Wine too expensive. Food was good but nothing special AND expensive
We had a wonderful meal in a lovely place. The atmosphere was warm and festive, but not over powering. The service was good and the food was outstanding - we really enjoyed it!
Great Ambience, will be going back as soon as we can
Enjoyed our return visit. It is a good location and a pleasant room (we were Downstairs). Service attentive. Food varied - some much enjoyed.
Would definitely go back.
Very enjoyable Sunday lunch. Decent food and attentive service. Nice atmosphere. Pork special was delicious and well done No1 for adapting another special to meet the requirements of one of our party. Decent wine list. Only negatives were no cheeseboard and the pudding choices were a limited.
I went here on a date. The food was good and the service was excellent however, the table I was placed on was in the centre and I had to shout to be heard, I was also getting hit by all passing waiters and customers. Too many distractions which potentially influenced the outcome of the date.
Great quality of food and service
Perhaps a little cramped
Excellent all round.
We had a lovely dinner on Saturday night, we were 45 mins early for our table but they accommodated is wonderfully. The food was delicious and the service excellent. We really enjoyed it.
Beautiful restaurant and loved loved the Candleabra candles! Appreciate the effort and well worth the effect! Amazing food , cocktails, wine and service! So charming and trendy at the same time! Thank you!
Fantastic Sunday lunchtime service. Discrete and friendly service with first rate food and interesting wine list.
Fantastic service , lovely food. Menu a little limited for non fish lovers .
Lovely restaurant and really tasty food. The only problems we had was that the waitress couldn’t open the first bottle of wine but she quickly went to find a more senior waitress. The second waitress commented that our table should have been cleaned but didn’t clean it. Overall amazing tasting food.
Terrible service but still charged 12.5% for it despite them knowing how unhappy we were. I wasn't paying but if I'd realised I wouldn't have paid it.
Had an excellent mushroom/truffles/soft egg starter followed by very disappointing overcooked sole on the bone.
Ambience is good but not if you're old and can't hear!
Very relaxed, excellent food, good service, pleasant ambience in a very good central location. The wine list included some excellent lower price range options, including a very good Nero d'Avola.
Overall extremely good value.
Of note is that service was included in the bill, but we felt totalyy justified.
A lovely place for a pre-theatre meal. Just off the main drag in Oxford; but so much nicer than all the usual offerings. The food was delicious, and the restaurant was cozy and welcoming. The staff were all smiley and efficient, without being 'in your face'. We had an unhurried meal with a good wine, and left knowing that we'd definitely return! Highly recommend.
We had a very disappointing visit last night, vegetables cold, steak not cooked as ordered (which meant it had to be returned and we didn’t eat together) and a waitress that didn’t seem to bothered about her errors
We've been here a number of times and the food / service etc. always meets expectations. A good local restaurant with well cooked, well presented dishes and friendly service and staff.
Promises more than it delivers... Good food, but overpriced. It feels as if you’re paying to eat within the Collegiate Triangle. The biggest issue here is the service. Not only is it brusque, but at times it is also both arrogant and patronising.
Went for a special occasion. The food was fabulous and the service was excellent. Will definitely go again, next time in Oxford.
the food and service were excellent. not had devilled kidneys for ages and the flavours here will make me not wait so long again. the beef and oyster pie (for 2) was also very good.
wine a bit pricey though.
The meal was delicious, the rabbit terrine and my burger were divine, however was let down by a bitter butternut squash that my girlfriend didn’t like. However, great service from the manager (I assume), a very nice waiter, and a incredible pudding (on the house), combined with a romantic ambiance made the evening worth it
pleasantly surprised by creativity. All of us enjoyed our choices very much, including the desserts!
Fantastic night, great food and awesome cocktails. We was 45 minutes late being seated, but the food made up for the wait.
We had a lovely lunch. The menu choice was varied and all sounded really tempting. Good choice of wines by the glass and excellent service. Our food was excellent, and we will definitely be back!!!
This new stylish restaurant has a very good menu, good service, pleasing unusual ambiance and fair value. Highly recommended.
Delightful supper. Just what we were looking for. Pleasant space. Conveniently located. Pleasant and helpful staff. God food and good service.
