I went for DC Restaurant Week with a friend and we had a great experience! Food, service, and ambiance were all top notch. Highlights definitely included the tuna sashimi salad, yellowtail jalapeno, beef toban yaki (amazingly tender and rich!), and the green tea tiramisu! Kudos!
asked three times if we were done with our meal before the entree even came and presented with the check before desert arrived.
The restaurant week menu was great. We got to sample a lot of fishes between the four of us. The cuisine is innovative and presented beautifully. The service was attentive. The vastness of the space is both an advantage and a problem. It allows for conversations but does not allow it to appear to be lively and buzzy.
We were disappointed. Service was slow, although pleasant enough. The food was fine, but unimpressive. We had hoped for much better. It was restaurant week so I am glad we had not paid more for our meal.
The food was pheromonal as always. Though it does come out too fast which didn't allow for as much of an evening out.
Nobu DC exceeded our expectations. The menu of food selections was creative and varied. The potent potables were delicious as was the food.
Went for Restaurant Week. Had a early 5PM appt. Huge restaurant is quite bright in the back and darker in the middle of the restaurant. Was seated in the light area so quite pleasant and early appt (only options left for restaurant week day) was quiet. Service was very good - not the case if you read many reviews. The menu was a special selection menu that had a lot of the marquee Peruvian/Japanese items that Nobu is known for.
Used this as a dinner date with my wife. Portions were bigger than expected and the quality was really good. My wife's salmon was the best she's ever had. I rate everything in relation to how much I spend. I don't expect 4 star dining at a diner. The fixed price Restaurant Week menu allowed me to have much less expectations so I was pleasantly surprised. It was probably 1/2 or 1/3 the cost of a typical dinner meal, less drinks.
We enjoyed our night out and the greater area was a nice area to walk after dinner. Used SpotHero to park at a nearby hotel to not deal with the hassle of parking, though they have valet for about what we paid for parking.
Came here for my brother and sister in law’s bday and was greeted with great service, food, experience. Expensive but would be great for a special occasion dinner.
Service started out well. Attentive and knowledgeable, but as the meal started (custom tasting menu) we saw less of our server. We had eight people and 3 were gluten free, yet 3 of the 4 main courses were totally fried and breaded...so the Gf folks missed the crab, lobster and fish mains! I bought this to the staff attention but got no remedy. The tab was about 300$ per head and I expect more for this kind of price. Overall food was very good (for those who could eat it). We had a good night, but I must give this honest review. Decor and layout are very special.
The classic and nouveau dishes were outstanding, despite the $$$! However, I have had better sushi. The fish portion of the sushi was the perfect size, but too much rice and that was the dominant taste in the sushi. The service was very good and the staff were very attentive.
Staff was very professional, but food took 1 and half hours to come. Strange since is was a sushi and sashimi sampler. Almost $200 for nothing special.
We waited 15 minutes before we were given menus and that was only after we asked for them. We probably waited 10 minutes before we were served water. The food was good but the ambiance was cold. Unlikely to return.
Waiters and the entire staff were just as incredible as the food. Best Nobu location I have visited!
Our expectations were perhaps unreasonably high but the experience was uneven: some excellent menu items; many were forgettable. Wait time between items was inconsistent - some dishes arrived in quick succession only to then give way to a long lull which prompted us to inquire about our order with our waiter. Our busboy was very attentive: water glasses were always full and napkins folded as soon as any member of our party excused him or herself. Our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly. If we were to return, we might choose the tasting menu which I'm told is excellent.
Value: We ordered a decent bottle of wine and had we chosen beer or something more modest, the price tag would probably have been in line with the experience. The waiter did offer us an additional dessert (desserts btw were excellent).
Overall, the impression was that of a solid neighborhood restaurant but the name led us to expect something more memorable.
Quality of food and service were very good. Noise level too high for price. Seats too cramped for price. Price was around 3-4x what a comparable good high level meal should be. Very pretentious. A lot of cachet around the name. Save your money. Eat better
Ordered the squid ink “pasta” but the waitress didn’t explain it wasn’t pasta. The restaurant was empty and the waitress somewhat ignored us. We had to flag her down several times. She had at most 1-2 other tables.
I have been to many Nobu restaurants. The food at the DC location was awful!!!!!!!!
First the good: (1) The food was outstanding -- every dish was spectacularly good. (2) The staff was friendly and polite. Now the not-so-good: (1) Although the restaurant was not close to full, the service was very slow, disorganized and amateurish -- just not up to the level of professionalism to be expected from a restaurant of this stature. It was at least 15 minutes before we were even asked if we wanted something to drink, and at least 15 minutes more to get a bottle of prosecco and a menu. We got the food in stages, which was intentional and fine. Once the food started coming, it came fast enough. (2) The noise level was unpleasantly loud. Despite the negatives, though, we will very likely go back to taste more of Nobu's delicious food.
We ordered several Nobu classics and loved them. Got a spicy shishito pepper and almost cried (the sweet ones are super tame so eating them is like Russian roulette). Great Japanese beer choices. A few of vegetarian dishes were slightly over seasoned for my tastes (green salad, house made tofu, and miso eggplant). Scene stealer was the Nobu Now crispy rice and tuna/avocado. Crazy delicious combination of flavors, textures, and temperatures. Server was knowledgeable and helpful. Dining room is cavernous and feels like a nice hotel restaurant. Open Table had no 7pm Saturday reservations available but the restaurant was quite empty at that time so you might have better luck calling directly.
Love it must go back Food great service great. 5 Stars across the board
We knew Nobu from rap songs and entertainment shows. So, when I found out that DC was getting one, I wanted to see what all the hoopla was about. I booked a reservation for my husband’s birthday and was pretty excited about finally trying what we heard as “the best sushi restaurant”. Before going we read some unfavorable reviews so, I was a bit cautious. But this restaurant, staff and overall ambiance far exceeded our expectations. The prices will try to deter you, don’t let it! It is worth every penny. The drinks (I had the 25th & M, my husband had the Old Fashion) were amazing! The yellowtail and jalapeño ON POINT! The rock shrimp tempura mouthwatering! Our waitress, Shimbuko (I know I’m spelling that wrong) was so knowledgeable, pleasant and patient. We are going back soon!
Three of the four of us were celebrating birthdays at Nobu that night. We ordered the black cod- a revelation. Same with the lobster and shrimp with spicy lemon sauce. The flavors melted in my mouth and were unlike anything I'd eaten before. We had some lambchops, which were rich and delicious and were the best lamb we have ever eaten. Three of us love sushi and got a variety of sushi to enjoy. We finished with spicy vegetable garlic, which had lots of enoki mushrooms, asparagus, broccoli, carrot, onions, garlic and peppers. The spicy flavor was indescribable. About the best vegetables I've ever tasted. This was an unforgettable dinner and about the most delicious evening of my life. We all felt that way.
Very friendly staff and more than excited to walk you through the menu. Very expensive but worth every penny for the experience!
The food, as always, was very good. We also sat outside in the patio area, which was lovely. Sometimes you get great service at Nobu, other times only okay service. This was an only okay time, although as the night wore on, our waitress became friendlier.
Having been to other locations around the world, I decided to take my lady to the DC location for our anniversary.
Our pleasent server, handed us the menus and gave us time to decide. Upon her return we ordered the lobster dish, at that point she informed us unfortunately they are out of lobster, we simply decided on our second choice which was a scallop dish, she then alerts us they are out of scallops... After realizing almost half the menu is out of stock at 7:00pm we settled for sushi... Then she asked for our choice of drink, I jokingly asked are you sure you the ingredients, she smiled and says yes... Placed our drink order and after 5mins she comes back to inform us they don't have one of the ingredients for the drink from the menu we have asked.... At that time after all the disappointment I just said plz bring the check.... After ruining our special evening manager offered her apology, but unfortunately a little too late.... All this simply could have been avoided if we were notified prior to ordering. Very disappointed in one of my favorite exclusive chains.
This is an expense account restaurant. The food was good but I honestly don’t get what all the fuss is about.
Happy to say the service was much improved! And the food was excellent as always.
I love Nobu - regularly frequent both NY restaurants, as well as LA and Vegas; the price is high but the experience and food is always worth it. The DC restaurant was very disappointing - starting with slow service, our waiter was great but way too busy. We got the tasting menu and only 2 out of 8 dishes were great, everything else was just fine. Also, the wasabi was green horseradish, it had no taste to it. Anyway, I am not going back to the DC restaurant, wasn't worth the time or money.
The above average food for a price of a Nobu experience. Not sure... I would think twice before going again.
Amazing! Just amazing!
Outstanding!! Friendly , knowledgeable service. Delicious and beautiful food. Memorable!
Same good food as the others but restaurant was empty.
Best Japanese restaurant in DC so far. I will definitely go back. Great ambiance for celebration and special occasions.
I went with my family to Nobu for a birthday brunch! We thoroughly enjoyed the food, the drinks and the service. Nobu is pricey, but you do get excellent food and service, and some good tunes that were maybe a tad louder than I would like. The set brunch is a relatively good deal if you don't want to empty your wallet on one meal! Definitely a wonderful special occasion place for us with two teenagers with big appetites!
Service was very slow. Took 3 hours to eat. Everyone around us had bad service too. Very unfortunate.
I love Nobu in NYC. The food here in DC was wonderful, but the environment, the service - lacking. The space is far too big, the wait staff is strung out. Again, food is outstanding but everything else is lacking.
We were the only patrons in the restaurant. They originally sat us at a table close to the kitchen, so we asked to be moved to a better view. The waitress and service was great. The fusion food was better than the sushi/sashimi itself. The fish slices were so thin. You walk out of there hungry. It is definitely not worth the price. I can't say that I would recommend this place unless it is a business expense meal.
Restaurant was close to empty on a Friday night with no atmosphere. Service was not up to the standard it needs to be for the price point
Delicious Food but portions are very small.
