North Italia - Reston
The food was excellent. Despite labor shortages our server gave us adequate attention and exceeded our needs.
We had a delicious Pig Pizza there and took an even better Spicy Meatball Pizza to go. Loved the Arancini in tomato sauce and the Shrimp Scampi was divine.
service was a bit off this time - maybe as more guests are returning to dining at restaurants - the level of coordination between service and kitchen staff needs a review. I placed our order for a funghi flatbread as an appetizer as soon as we were settled at our table. Then we reviewed the menu and ordered our salads, entrees and wine for the evening. Our Caesar salad arrived very soon after but before our appetizer and our wine. We were hoping to have the appetizer before salad and our server went to check and told us the flat bread will soon arrive. It didnt happen. So we enjoyed our salads with just water to drink. The very tasty funghi flatbread did eventually arrive. The server remembered that I had ordered the Nero Mascalese when I had last dined at North - I was impressed by her memory -of choosing the Nero (since the Ornellaia I had first ordered was not very good). So I took her suggestion that another wine I was about to order was too acidic and instead we went with an Amarone which turned out to go quite well with the 4 different pasta dishes we ordered. My short rib cavalelli tasted very good although it appears the amount of short rib was less than in the past; my wife enjoyed the chicken pesto which had a lot of basil as she likes it; our friends enjoyed their mafaldine and burrata anolini which was such a pretty pasta - like sunflower shaped ravioli. One of the greeters was doing double duty helping to clear used plates after every course - every time she walked by our table which was not too far from the check-in podium- she would check and ask to help clear. Maybe the place was slammed or there was no bussers working on Saturday evening?
We fell in love with North when
Wonderful good. Pleasant and competent staff
North Italia seems to be one of the few consistently good and fun venues in RTC. I would compliment the staff in particular. They are fun, funny, smart, professional, and patient. During this most recent visit, Ms. Hera was taking care of us, and we could not have enjoyed it more. She was thoughtful and immediately assessed our dining style, and treated us exactly in the way that made us comfortable. We appreciated it. Food was great, as always, as were the cocktails...made to order. Nothing at all to complain about here. NI is a place I will always hit when I need to be sure it will a good experience.
This is my second dining experience here, & will absolutely come back. The staff was very accommodating at our decision to eat outside. They said it would be 30 minutes & ended up being 10 at most. Also, our wine selection was out of stock, yet the manager scoured the restaurant & found a bottle just for us.
Love the pizza with fig, goat cheese. Excellent service
We went to North to celebrate my mom’s birthday. Had a great evening with good food and service. I will be back. Salads were great.
The food and service were not nearly as good as the location at the Boro. They were booked at the Boro so we decided to drive to the Reston location. After dining at both it’s clear why The Boro location was booked and Reston had plenty of availability.
Delicious pizza ! Fresh ingredients . Great server , he was very patient and did not rush us ! My new restaurant !
The only issue is wine. The last few times I have been there the bottle of wine I selected was unavailable. The alternative choices were much pricier. As a diner, I would appreciate honoring the price point I selected.
Food is normally great and full of flavor. This evening my STROZZAPRETI was runny and completely void of taste. I returned it to the kitchen and requested the BOLOGNESE. Kimberly was apologetic but no visit from the manager. Unfortunately we had to eat in shifts.
The truffle bread delicious, as was the arugula salad. But $12.50 seemed high for a salad plate of arugula. While they have a full espresso bar and know what a macchiato is, it was overly bitter and grainy...and why the slice of lemon? Service friendly but inconsistent when the restaurant was so empty on a rainy day....forgot we wanted separate checks....had to ask where our coffee orders were.
I’ll try again, esp for the bread!
Ambiance is the best. I wish the menu had more like veal parmigiana
We love North Italia, for take out during Covid and dining in. Food has always been on point, nice wine selection. Great staff. Our favorites are scallops, wild shrimp scampi, burrata ravioli, pizzas, salads. Highly recommend!
We have eaten at this north Italia at least 20+ times. With our family or just my husband and I. Almost every time service, food and overall experience has been wonderful.
Last night not so much. We were there to celebrate becoming 1st time grandparents and excited to be there.
First, ordered drinks. My son and husband ordered peroni Italian beer which was completely flat. Went to order another beer and waiter said if that’s flat they are all flat. Great. Well they ordered bottle beer.
Next we were going to order beef carpaccio appetizer and told they didn’t have any left then they came back and said they did.
We then ordered 4 entrees : 2 scallop entrees at $29 each, 1 steak entree $38 and chicken pesto pasta but substituted the chicken for meatballs.
Steak came and my son ate, scallops came out at different times later (we have ordered the scallops many times and they are large plump scallops) and these were like tiny scallops /appetizer portion. Not even close to what we have had before. Meanwhile mine came out cold. So everything was a mess. They came by “Kurt” aka manager not so much and said oh we will take this off your bill ( yes of course we didn’t eat except my son).
My husband and daughter tried to order other food but it never came , then did but wasn’t good. Mine was cold three times and at this point we were done and hungry.
So Kurt brought the bill and no gift card to come back and try again, no here let me give you a dessert to take home nothing other than taking off bill the food we didn’t eat.
As I said above, we know Chris one of the chefs, we supported the restaurant a lot during pandemic and have always just had great management, service, food and last night unfortunately left a very sour taste in our mouth to go back for a long while.
We then proceeded to capital burger where we know the manager Marcel and had great service and food!!
Hopefully someone from there leadership team reads this and wants loyal customers back!
Our server was perfect, polite and helpful. Wonderful atmosphere. Hostess was welcoming. Thank you for the amazing pizza!
Wonderful! Great food and service. I will go back.
Absolutely delicious! We were seated right away and everything was delicious!
Service always makes a difference when you have so many food choices. I work in the Reston area and not sure why I hadn’t considered North Italia for dinner. Finally decided to stop for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. Food was excellent and our server was well versed on the menu and made excellent recommendations. We enjoyed the pasta dishes most and the cocktails and wines were top notch. We will return for some other dishes.
Great visit as usual
North Italia owes us nothing!!! The food, service and ambiance is AMAZING!
This is my third visit to the restaurant. I like it but lunch menu could have been better..
Three of us recently had dinner here. Had hoped to sit outside but the weather was iffy so decided to eat in. This was my second time eating at North Italia and the food is always good (I had the vegetable salad with salmon which was excellent). The only problem is the noise level which sometimes makes it hard to enjoy conversation. So I would say, try to get seated outside if at all possible!
Terrible experience. Where do I start…. They had problems with equipment above the ceiling in the kitchen. I visibly noticed dust from overhead spilling onto fresh pizza crusts.
I alerted management and they disposed of food and asked contractors to stop working.
My food order came out wrong. To be honest, servicer took responsibility for that and admitted he made a mistake. Had to wait for a re-do.
My to go portion of the order took a long time to come out.
To be honest, they should of comped the meal, but I just needed to continue my day at that point and paid plus decent tip as server was great.
Perhaps if management contacts me back, I’ll update this review, but for now, stay away.
We ate outside. It was very nice. Food was a little cold. Service was great.
First time here and we really enjoyed our experience. Our waitress was really pleasant, the drinks were delicious (though they didn't have ingredients for one that we wanted), and food was excellent. This was our first night out in a restaurant in a very long time and it was great.
This was our first indoor experience at North Italia since the pandemic. Tables were appropriately separated: as a bonus, the noise level was lower than before. Food and service was excellent as usual.
We dined at this restaurant to celebrate a significant birthday of a family member. The food and service were excellent, and the staff accommodated the special needs of disabled members of our group. I will definitely return and I highly recommend this restaurant.
Food Excellent, service good, they have better servers
Had given me the wrong drink but were able to rectify it by bringing me the drink I actually ordered. Food was great!!
Food is always reliable at North Italia and nice ambiance at this location.
We also had the red sangria which was tasty but presented in a tall cocktail glass which seemed like an unusual presentation for wine based drink.
Service is good although we had to ask for silverware and instead of bringing out a knife and fork we had to ask for each piece separately.
Lots of cell phone action by employees upfront, not necessarily a great look for diners.
The food is worth coming back again.
This was my third time at North Italia (second at this location). I sat inside, which felt a bit warm. My food was good (chicken pesto), but the noodles seemed a pinch overcooked (were "looser" than the first time I had it in the Boro location)? What definitely made my meal was the chocolate affogato -- the gelato was especially bellissimo! My server was quick and attentive, and I appreciate the refills on my water.
Second visit to this restaurant. Food was adequate to good. Wine list and cocktails were fine. Service was spotty.
Restaurant had several large booths with Reserved signs that we were told were taken. We had a reservation also, but were stuck at a small table right at the entrance near the hostess stand and doors. It wasn’t a Covid thing because our area was very crowded. The booths in back never filled up in our two hour stay (?). So that was annoying.
Our waiter was overly attentive at first and then we never saw him again after he delivered our first round of drinks. We had to ask twice for bread because he never brought it. We had to ask the hostess to go find him so that we could order out entrées. Also my husband’s drink glass had leftover salt or something from another drink that didn’t get washed in the dishwasher. It was dried on. When he asked for another drink, the waiter simply poured it into another glass. He could still taste the leftover salt, so kind of gross.
In general this place is ok and can be fun if you overlook the lack of training and professional skills of the staff. They
were very friendly but the restaurant should invest in some training, and it would get a better review from me.
Nice meal. The food was good and the service was very good.
Nice menu with many options not offered in traditional Italian restaurant. I had the Waygu beef and my wife the diver scallops. If you're looking for eggplant parm or a veal dish, look elsewhere.
Nice new restaurant with inside and outside diing. Service was friendly, attentive and efficient.
