Food was good however waitress was clearly not switched on and missed the order couple of times
Took my girlfriend here for her birthday. The food, service and ambience were all superb.
I can’t recommend highly enough.
We had the set menu, which is very good value, and a lovely bottle of Tempranillo.
This is restaurant not be missed in my opinion.
Lovely venue facing onto the river and with wonderful custard of Tate Modern. Relaxed but efficient service. Food was good value - portions not massive. Would definitely return.
A good position next to the River Thames but when sitting you can only see the water from the raised tables at the back and not at all from the 'ground floor tables'. There is plenty of space inside the restaurant around the tables. The service was prompt on a 2/3 full Wednesday lunchtime, so there was no stress on the staff.
The food was simple despite some ambition on the menu names and well cooked and the main courses provided passable value for the setting. The asparagus starters were disgraceful value £9 for two spears of asparagus and the pieces of about half a morel mushroom. I did not notice (and was not told until afterwards) I would have grumbled. But the black pudding and gammon croquette snacks at £4 were fine value.
The wine was over priced, roughly 4-5 times retail at the lower end but the 'special' South African Chenin Blanc' we ordered at £25 was reasonably priced and exceptionally good apart from when the waiter tried to distribute our second bottle to another table.
The music on pipe (60's 70s coolish jazz with some vocals) seemed just right.
Lovely setting beside the river and the food was lovely but unfortunately the service let it down. We booked for a group of 10 at 6pm because one of our party had to leave early and there were no other diners, yet we had to wait a good 20-30mins for our main so our friend had to leave without eating. Would recommend for date night but not for big group bookings.
The service and food were wonderful. Definitely would recommend it
I thought the kitchen and the staff did a wonderful job with accommodating my food allergies! They created new dishes for me as I couldn't have very much on the menu but still charged me the set menu( starters and main for £33) price plus prosecco! The view is nice as you can see the millennium bridge and the London skyline albeit from a lower level! The menu looks fantastic for someone who likes fish as well!
my friend and i dined here friday evening.we have been before several times and always enjoy the food and location
great views.the set price menu is a steal including glass prosseco
Sadly, I was very disappointed. The pictures on the website are very misleading. It looks like you can dine outside overlooking the river, when actually you can only eat inside whilst looking through a floor to ceiling window looking at a brick wall.
We had to ask for the set menus, which was on the booking and we never received our glass of prosecco which should have accompanied the meal.
Overall the service was fine.
Northbank is a great restaurant with a fairly formal feel to it. Wine list not cheap but it is the city. Always good fish on the menu. We had the rib eye steak though this time which was excellent and the chips to die for with the Bearnaise sauce. No room for pudding sadly
Service, Food, location Amazing
Definetly worth a visit.
Second time at Northbank. The first was mid-week and we had a very pleasant dinner, which prompted me to return at the weekend. Sadly it didn't deliver the same standard the second time around.
The food was ok-ish, but the service, whilst very friendly, was painfully slow and a bit amateurish. We ordered two bottles of fairly expensive white wine and it wasn't chilled - I had to ask several times for the bottles to be left on ice until it reached a drinkable temperature.
Location is great, with good views of the Millenium bridge and the south bank, but it took too long to be served fairly ordinary food with a hefty bill at the end.
Disappointed with food and minimal river views! Very limited menu.
I book a lot of business lunches here as the high standard of food and service is always consistent, there is a good bar and it’s a great location.
My wife and I had a midweek dinner here. Waitress and manageress service very good despite being reasonably busy. Food and cocktails good. Recommended.
Very friendly and flexible staff, food was extremely good, a very enjoyable evening. Good pre theatre menu and good value.
A perfect venue on the river, with thoughtful staff and a good level of service. The menu was extremely limited, but our choice, of a lobster risotto was wonderful, if a little small. The bill was high for the amount of food + a bottle of wine. However, it fitted the requirement.
The food was really yummy however the portion sizes were very small. The staff didn’t inform us of this so people were left Unsatisfied with the food as no sides were ordered. Also the service was poor as we had to constantly ask for things and remind them of orders etc even though the restaurant wasn’t hugely busy.
Great food, good service lively outdoor lunch on a warm sunny day.
Would be good to have a quick lunch menu for those pressed for time.
It was all perfectly OK but, perhaps because we had the set menu, thinks it is more fine-dining than it actually is. The food was tasty and well-presented but nothing exceptional. The service was very good but perhaps overly attentive - an empty glass wasn't allowed to sit on the table for more than a few seconds before it was whisked away. Best things were the setting: right on the river opposite Tate Modern, and the set: a big, comfortable table in a quiet booth in a tastefully-decorated room.
Visited Northbank on a sunny Saturday in April: we had pre-booked but it wasn't really necessary (which came as a surprise): friendly service, food good, although rather expensive, nice location, well worth a visit.
Food was good quality although the portions could have been bigger especially the lamb starter. Steak was served with either chips or salad but not both. Wine was reasonably priced for a bottle.
I had a lovely time with my niece. The service was lovely and the food excellent.
We wanted somewhere a bit special after visiting the Tate Modern Picasso Exhibition with friends, as it was our wedding anniversary. This was an easy walk over the bridge and with great views. The food and service were excellent a the glass of bubbly was most welcome. It was a shame that the weather was so cold and miserable as there was only one other occupied table this Monday lunchtime. But we four didn't mind and overall we'd definitely recommend this restaurant and the charming staff. Thanks very much!
The food was good, the set menu good value, the view is great and the staff are professional; what’s not to like?
We went to Tate Modern, walked over Millenium Bridge and thence to NORTHBANK. IT WAS SUCH A GREAT CHOICE. Stunning views of the river, a quiet environment, efficient, friendly service. Would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Tate Modern.
Excellent food in a great position and good atmosphere.
I decided to book in the Northbank this Friday 23rd of March to enjoy a dinner with my partner. We decided to go for the spring menu (65£). We were completely desapointed by the all experience: it was cold inside the restaurant, the service, the food and the very noisy ambiance.
This menu was not balanced and the wine did not matched with the food.
The started were imposible to feel any taste since it was cold form the fridge and not to a temperature how will allowed me to appreciate the taste or texture of ingredients.
After the starters and until three glasses of wine each in the table we had the main courses...well the taste of main course because the portion was so small that I was starving.
The wine was not matching the food and the service was so rushed that we had to speed and did not had time to feel relax and having any kind of joy.
For the first time, we left the table before the last courses: dessert.
I can’t believe I have got so bad value.
I strongly do not recommend this restaurant and I hope the chef will change his menu.
Father in law’s birthday celebration
We had a lovely evening. The food was delicious, however I could have eaten a little more for each course. I guess that is a good thing!
The staff were attentive and new a lot about the Cornish gins and food.
Really enjoyed a lovely meal with my sister and great location and views. Thank you.
We had the tasting menu. I hadn't heard of this restaurant until a google search of good restaurants with a view brought this up. We booked based on others reviews, and I have to say, having eaten at a lot of London fine restaurants we were very pleased and impressed with the food. Excellent dishes, incredible flavours and some unusual twists. The wine list was good, the view across the river was excellent and all in all a great restaurant that I will visit again. My only comment would be that when I ask for the names of the cheeses offered - I expect the actual names to be know, but at the time, it was quite amusing and didn't in any way reflect on the overall quality of the food or the experience.
Slightly didsapointed with food and service, had to ask for the set menu and ask again for our included glass of prosecco! Food OK but fish course very salty and belly pork not crispy and poached pears too hard but we still enjoyed ourselves. Probably wouldn’t rush back to be honest we’ve had better set lunches!
Great Lunch time/evening venue for a friends reunion, table booked for lunchtime at 1:00pm did not leave until 7 hrs later. The food and wine was great and the staff were very welcoming and attentive throughout our visit, cannot wait to visit again, maybe for Sunday Lunch next time.
One of our favourite restaurants in London that never disappoints. Great food, great service in a brilliant river front location
Really lovely lunch, amazing food and amazing views. We got the February special offer of 3 courses and prosecco for £27.50 which was great value. Will definitely be coming back! Thanks so much.
We have dined at Northbank on several occaisions and have never before been disappointed. On this occasion, however there were several minor niggles. The starter and desert menu was limited. There was nothing my partner liked on either so he just had the main course. This meant we all felt a bit awkward and just went for a desert. The side roll is no longer complimentary- this wasn't explained and the side plates were removed until I requested a roll. I didn't mind paying the £1.75 per person but it should have been offered. No amuse bouche this time either, Something that we always enjoyed. The cheese board was tiny! At £10 I would expect a larger portion. Very disappointing. The staff, as always were attentive and charming. It won't stop me from returning- the steak and truffle sauce are delicious and I'm yet to find a better sauce, but it didn't feel like the top notch treat that it had done before and I made myself a cheese board when I got home as I still felt a bit peckish.
We went on Valentines for pre theatre menu (its very close to the Globe) Dinner was good, original menu with short but varied dishes. I had Rabbit my partner had fish, both were very good. The Sardine starter was a little ungenerous and the mains were smaller than the Parsnip side! Nevertheless it was all very tasty, well presented and dishes were imaginatively paired and constructed. Service was really good and the staff were friendly and well mannered.
As always the service was excellent someone there when you needed them but not overbearing.
Food was excellent, haddock rarebit very tasty and whilst the pork belly was not that crispy it was really tasty.
Northbank is consistently good. We have been going there as it is near where we work for a number of years.
