We had a lovely evening. The food was delicious, however I could have eaten a little more for each course. I guess that is a good thing!
The staff were attentive and new a lot about the Cornish gins and food.
Really enjoyed a lovely meal with my sister and great location and views. Thank you.
We had the tasting menu. I hadn't heard of this restaurant until a google search of good restaurants with a view brought this up. We booked based on others reviews, and I have to say, having eaten at a lot of London fine restaurants we were very pleased and impressed with the food. Excellent dishes, incredible flavours and some unusual twists. The wine list was good, the view across the river was excellent and all in all a great restaurant that I will visit again. My only comment would be that when I ask for the names of the cheeses offered - I expect the actual names to be know, but at the time, it was quite amusing and didn't in any way reflect on the overall quality of the food or the experience.
Slightly didsapointed with food and service, had to ask for the set menu and ask again for our included glass of prosecco! Food OK but fish course very salty and belly pork not crispy and poached pears too hard but we still enjoyed ourselves. Probably wouldn’t rush back to be honest we’ve had better set lunches!
Great Lunch time/evening venue for a friends reunion, table booked for lunchtime at 1:00pm did not leave until 7 hrs later. The food and wine was great and the staff were very welcoming and attentive throughout our visit, cannot wait to visit again, maybe for Sunday Lunch next time.
One of our favourite restaurants in London that never disappoints. Great food, great service in a brilliant river front location
Really lovely lunch, amazing food and amazing views. We got the February special offer of 3 courses and prosecco for £27.50 which was great value. Will definitely be coming back! Thanks so much.
We have dined at Northbank on several occaisions and have never before been disappointed. On this occasion, however there were several minor niggles. The starter and desert menu was limited. There was nothing my partner liked on either so he just had the main course. This meant we all felt a bit awkward and just went for a desert. The side roll is no longer complimentary- this wasn't explained and the side plates were removed until I requested a roll. I didn't mind paying the £1.75 per person but it should have been offered. No amuse bouche this time either, Something that we always enjoyed. The cheese board was tiny! At £10 I would expect a larger portion. Very disappointing. The staff, as always were attentive and charming. It won't stop me from returning- the steak and truffle sauce are delicious and I'm yet to find a better sauce, but it didn't feel like the top notch treat that it had done before and I made myself a cheese board when I got home as I still felt a bit peckish.
We went on Valentines for pre theatre menu (its very close to the Globe) Dinner was good, original menu with short but varied dishes. I had Rabbit my partner had fish, both were very good. The Sardine starter was a little ungenerous and the mains were smaller than the Parsnip side! Nevertheless it was all very tasty, well presented and dishes were imaginatively paired and constructed. Service was really good and the staff were friendly and well mannered.
As always the service was excellent someone there when you needed them but not overbearing.
Food was excellent, haddock rarebit very tasty and whilst the pork belly was not that crispy it was really tasty.
Northbank is consistently good. We have been going there as it is near where we work for a number of years.
Food was amazing. We did a prix fixe lunch but then had a bit of a surprise when VAT and service was added to the bill. Service, sure but adding vat on top of a set price menu is pretty cheeky. It would have still been good value if included. We both really enjoyed our starters and mains.
Staff very attentive and friendly, nice and relaxed atmosphere. Will be lovely to sit out on there terrace in the summer over looking the Thames and south bank. Certainly return.
Food was delicious and staff were really lovely and attentive. Gin cocktails were delicious! We went for a late lunch on a week day, so it was very quiet. I’m sure at a busier time there is better ambiance.
Tried the Friday 20 pounds steak and chips/salad option, and added starters and desert. Quality and presentation of food is food.
Lovely setting for a restaurant. Menu is rather limited and they had run out of beef steaks so only fish or duck offered!! We had had a pre dinner drink in the bar and could have been offered the menu to look at and then we might have been told that there were only a limited number of steaks or chateaubriand left. We spoke to the manager who managed to find two lamb steaks for two of our party. The meat was fine but not very warm. The service was good.
Price was good with the discount on food.
Great view, lovely service. Excellent ingredients imaginatively served.
Excellent restaurant in a brilliant location. Great food and service
Welcoming front of house and attentive table staff. Nice ambience and lovely views over Thames towards Tate Modern, Globe & Shard.
A "what's in season" list is a nice touch however the actual menu a bit short on veggie/fishy options. That said, the food was delicious.
Took advantage of a 50% off "a la carte" in January deal which made it great value too.
Over the years we have been to this restaurant many times but have not been for at least 18 months. We have always enjoyed the a la carte menu on toptable, opentable or tastecard. However, on this occasion the menu was restricted. Only 3 starters and 3 main courses. When asked the Polish girl at the front desk said that the menu was changed on 9 January and that she personally updated it online. No that is not true, the menu on opentable is more extensive. Disappointed that she be dishonest about this. If the opentable offer is for 50% of the a la carte menu and it is online then stick with it. We went because of that. Afterall you only have the offer in January.
Excellent value with their January promotion.
My second lunch there but with a different group of friends who were suitably impressed.
Great location and wonderful food. It’s slightly more expensive than the usual restaurants in the City but worth the cost. Service always great.
Have been a regular to Northbank since it opened and usually dine there for lunch, especially during summer on terrace.
Seven of us for dinner this time and although service and food has always been notable this evening was exceptional in every way, from attentive and excellent service to great food and wine.
Consistently excellent food. Well looked after & beef was exceptional! Looking forward to returning again soon!
Been for business lunches on a number of occasions and thought the food was pretty good. Took advantage of the 50% offer and went with my wife for dinner. Food was very nice with excellent fish and a great selection of West Country gins! Overall a very nice dining experience
Food didn't blow me away to be honest and felt a little pricey for what it was. Had the mushroom pate to start which looked a bit odd with raw mushrooms on the top, and it was a tiny piece of burnt toast with a bit of mushroom pate on it. The pPork and apple was nice, but there was way more apple than was needed and not nearly enough crackling (the best part!). Staff were pleasant, perhaps a little abrupt.
Ideal for a quiet business lunch the restaurant did most things well and prices were pretty good for a City Restaurant. With views of the Tate it is well located on the north bank of the Thames (the clue is in the name) the rather sterile dining room has some benefits. The staff were efficient and reasonably attentive and all the four guests seemed to enjoy the food that was served.
I have always chosen Northbank for special occasions/celebrations as the food is gorgeous, location wonderful with views of the river and excellent staff. For what you get in this type of restaurant/location the prices are also fair. It isn't cheap, but you wouldn't expect it to be.
It simply works!
The food was decent, but nothing to write home about. The service was efficient, but not outstanding. Overall, very average
I have eaten here many times before both at lunch and in the evenings and to be fair this time was a bit of a disappointment.
The ambience was fine with lovely views over the Thames, the staff attentive but not too much so despite the restaurant being fairly empty.
My starter of various chicken pates was good, my companions terrine less so being fairly flavour less. My contrast, her Sea Trout was excellent where as my Cornish pasty was just that, which rather surprised me for the price. My fault for choosing it.
We both then ordered the poached pear with cream and marzipan and something else. It was actually quite tasty. I am not quite sure what we were expecting but it seemed that the pears had come straight put of a tin, the marzipan served in rectangular chunks topped with the cream.
We had an enjoyable evening and I shall return, but I suspect my companion won't.
good food, pity the bread is not fresh but frozen
friendly staff, not always fully helpful on the dishes description
Rushed service made myself and the guests feel unwelcome. We spent over £600 and the service was terrible. Will not return
Had a nice lunch, food better than last time. Service still needs to be worked on but won't put me off returning.
Always worth a visit - good food, mostly from Cornwall, fresh and well presented, their special menus are very good value. There are not too many good restaurants in London with both a river view and good food that are affordable - this is one of them.
I took my team to Northbank to mark a significant professional milestone (35 years in the Insurance Industry), and none of us were disappointed. The menu is creative and excellent and the food and wine very good, the service was prompt, professional and pleasant, and the ambience perfect for the occasion with a nice view of the Thames from our booth.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fine dining experience, and am looking forward to visiting in Summer when the open-ait terrace becomes a more attractive option!
Very pleasant evening with lovely views over the Thames. Good menu and wine selection
I visited Northbank on a Saturday night for dinner. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The decor was great and I loved the interesting wallpaper is you took a closer look! The view across the river was beautiful at night time too. My friend had a Taste Card so we were able to get 50% off food from the A la Carte menu which was great. I shared the Cote de Boeuf with my husband which we both thought was delicious and my friend had the pork. My only negative was that the side dishes were £4 each and the amount of chips we got was pretty stingy. The service was friendly and attentive without being too intrusive.
Helpful and gracious staff. Great view. The set meal with cava was delicious-cauliflower cheese side was the best ever. All accompanied by little extras which were thrown in. Very clean convenient for Tate Modern.
Excellent service, nice and relaxed atmosphere but special enough for a birthday. Great views on a sunny or gloomy day. Set menu was delicious and good value, wine very reasonable too. Only small issue - no baby changing facilities.
We've dined at Northbank several times before with friends. The staff are always pleasant and helpful. We arrived half an hour early than our booking and were told this wasn't a problem and that we could have a drink at the bar or go straight to our table. We were offered bottled or tap water which is always a nice touch. We booked in for the £20 steak deal (200g ribeye steak, chips and a glass of prosecco or beer) which we hadn't tried before. The bread roll was served with bacon butter and we were presented with an amuse bouche in a little chest - crab bite on a bed of stones to keep it warm. The 200g ribeye was beautifully cooked and my truffle sauce was to die for. (I've actually never had a steak sauce I've enjoyed so much in my life and it's the main reason I keep going back) I had cauliflower cheese as a side as I'd enjoyed that the last time we came. We had had a late lunch so didn't have a starter or dessert but they always have a good selection of both and I was sorely tempted. I usually opt for the cheese board, not many places you find stinking bishop on the menu!
I almost forgot to mention the decor! The menus and wallpaper are 'subtle' images of modern London society by Timorous Beasties. At first glance the images look like a vignette from a children's story book but are darker on close inspection! The facilities were clean and fresh but were downstairs. I'm afraid I didnt check for disabled access toilets so please check before you book if you require.
I hope you enjoy your visit as much as I always do. :)
