in full respect of Neapolitan tradition
This place is nice. Swerve the starters (which were a bit samey tasting for us), and head straight for the mains. The meatballs and pizza were excellent. The pasta was average. The rum cake desert was a bit boring, but worth the calories and a decent size for two sharing. The place is small - we were unfortunate with our table which was right in front of the door on a chilly night. Staff dealt with my request to move politely, but it was a no. They had a curtain which I did witness them on a few occasions making sure remained pulled so that the draft didn't get us too much; I appreciated the effort. Nice ambiance for a date night, well lit and music at a good level to hear yourself speak and appreciate the food. Highlight for me was the pizza - worth the hype and would return for that if nothing else.
Really nice Italian restaurant with nice atmosphere. The price was a little more than I would have expected but it's a great place for a date night when you don't mind spending that little extra
We went on an evening when the restaurant was fully booked. The food was good quality and the pizza and pasta were tasty although pasta portions are not generous. The salads are very large but served in almost a sharing salad bowl rather than as a meal, and the italian salad was lacking in the ingredients beyond a lot of lettuce given the price.
The service was pleasant but quite haphazard throughout the evening, possibly because the restaurant was full - drinks order for half the party were forgotten, plates were not cleared, and an additional item was added to the bill at the end of the meal, so we felt we needed to keep making an effort to be served.
The food just missed something with each dish. Pizza was soggy and undercooked (time to revisit those AVPN standards, Chef), yellow tomato sauce on the ravioli was very salty, and the salad was absent any dressing at all and dry. Poor service from a young man in over his head. He rarely visited us, told us how good our food was instead of asking us how it was, didn’t bring things when politely asked, and never poured a glass of wine or water. We made reservations on OpenTable and were seated, late, perched on stools against the window right by the opening and closing front door on a cold November night. With so many good restaurants in this one London neighbourhood alone, why go back for such poor hospitality?
Food was delicious (gnocchi very salty though). Service a bit slow, but would go again
Lovely pizza! Some of the staff are very pleasant but we were sat near the door and had people leaning up against our table waiting to be seated. We also had several people bumping into us. This would be fine for a cheap quick meal but not at these prices!
The waitress added a bottle of wine and water we never had to the bill, she apologised and deducted it but it was lucky we spotted that.
I might get a take away but won’t dine in again
As ever fantastic pasta , great wine advice and brilliant staff love this place
As always delicious food and great service. O’ver is always my go to place when I have friends and family visiting!
Overall a nice meal with very tasty ingredients. My partner's steak was excellent and the desserts were lovely. A couple of gripes though- a certain type of seawater bread not available on Mondays was meant to come with three of our mains and no alternative was offered (nor was this mentioned on ordering), the dishes just showed up without and we had to request some focaccia as replacement. Also a note on the format of the menu as the placement of three main courses underneath the pasta dishes led us to, incorrectly, believe that the meatballs three of us ordered would come with pasta and they didn't. It was just meatballs in sauce on one dish which was a bit confusing. No complaints on the taste of the meatballs, it was just with the aforementioned bread issue it seemed a bit of a limited plate for a main course costing around £20. When our expectations were set at a pasta dish as well this didn't help matters. We left the restaurant happy enough, it was just a little strange and perhaps might sway against a future visit very soon.
First time at this restaurant- really enjoyed the visit. One possible improvement could be that the food could be hotter - on our visit both courses were only warm...
Very pleasantly surprised by the excellent quality of food at O'Ver. Whilst this appears more of an informal Italian restaurant with casual wooden seating, everything we ordered more than met expectations. You need to book, O'Ver is very popular!
Delicious. Starter calamari and courgette and arancini were generous tasty starters. Potato, broccoli and pine nut pasta with a little sausage didn’t sound as though it would be amazing - but it was! Homemade meatballs were very good too. Pricey Terre Brune red wine was well worth it and two delicious dessert wines suggested by the boss which I cannot believe I have never even heard of till now... Friendly staff clearly passionate about the food and drink. It won’t be for a few months but already looking forward to another visit.
I've been to O Ver a few times and really enjoyed the food but the service is a little over-bearing. I appreciate that O Ver is a popular venue and the restaurant needs to ensure that customers move off their tables in readiness for the next booking, but there are ways to achieve this without making your customers feel uncomfortable. Such a shame because it spoilt an otherwise very pleasant meal.
Our waiter handled a situation really really well. My mum can have a severe reaction to pepper but as it’s not an allergy per se we often forget to mention it. She also forgot and her dish was covered in pepper. Our fault. But the man serving us () was incredibly gracious and helpful. Sorry I can’t remember his name!!! But he chose a lovely red wine for us too. Dessert was excellent. Very good value too.
Lovely decor and a nice buzz on a Friday night, but the food is quite expensive for what it is!
The food and service here were excellent. Highly recommended.
Good food from excellent staff, and good value too. This was my first time in this O'ver location. I would come again. My friends enjoyed it.
Food less good than on previous visits.
It was lovely! It was just quite pricey i thought for the pizza and pastas which were over £15 on average. But it was my second time here and delicious as always
has to be one of the best pizza's in the world.
Hadn't been in the basement drinks are before. Great dark ambience.
The main restaurant suffers as od most restaurants with very poor acoustics. Needs some absorptive treatment.
This place never fails to disappoint. For the third year running we celebrated my sons birthday here. Fantastic pizza, prosecco, wine and service.
Luke warm pasta which we felt was expensive for what we had. We didn’t say anything as we had threaten reservations and could not afford the time.
Great to find an excellent restaurant in Southwark Street
The staff here are very helpful and accommodating although I thought that the tables could be positioned more effectively. Some areas were very bunched and, had we not moved, we would have been too close to our neighbours.
The pizzas we had were delicious although they went from hot to warm to cold very quickly once we had them before us - and believe me when I say this was not due to tardy or lack-lustre eating! This is a perpetual problem in every pizza restaurant I've visited and I'm not sure what the answer is. Heat the plates? Bring two smaller pizzas in relays (which would be a great solution).
The restaurant is appealing, bright, and modern with helpful staff and good quality table ware- a real pulse in my view- and it's ideally situated just off the busiest part of Borough Market opposite the Menier chocolate factory.
Small venue with great staff and fabulous food. Will definitely be returning.
I went with my mum to eat dinner here. The pizza is great, it’s a nice venue and it’s not too cramped- particularly downstairs.
The service was great during the meal and the staff were friendly and courteous however we had to wait 10 minutes after our booking time to sit down. They did offer us another seat during our wait period however it was right next to the main entrance.
Great food. Very tasty. Service spot on. Fair value for money.
Wonderful food, friendly and efficient service and a great location. We much enjoyed the pizzas and Milanese street food starter.
Very hot downstairs in the booth but fixed when fan put on. Service and food are fabulous. One of my favourite places
An ok pizza place, thay seems to have fallen for it's own hype. Got a call and hour before my booking telling me my table (on a tuesday might in september) was only available for an hour and a half, when I suggested I would therefore cancel, I was given a whole extra hour on my table. Arrived to a pretty much empty restaurant and offered a table crammed in the corner or opposite a column as the only options. Had to push again to get an acceptable tablle for 2! Food was ok but same quality than any Italian trattoria in any high street. And after being asked to order by literally all the waiters in the place was then pretty much abandoned to the point of considering to 'fake leave' to get attention to pay the bill! £50 each for 2 courses a g&t and a glass of wine.....most of the staff friendly when you get served but not really worth it.
Restaurant didn’t make us feel welcome and we had to rush our order as the kitchen was closing. Disappointing.
The service at over gets better and better every time I visit it has now become my favourite Italian Restaurant. The gnocchi is beautiful
O ver had a very good wine list and the pizzas looked good. I had the burratta which was served fridge cold with 1 basil leaf. My main was a lukewarm melanzane parmigiana . I requested a small side salad (reiterated twice) and got a huge bowl of green leaves.
My friend had a huge starter even though she checked twice with the waiter and end up with a huge focciaca. Her steak was ok. We paid over £70 for a pretty average meal.
It would be ok for a slice of pizza and a glass or two of wine. Nothing more.
A very warm and friendly staff greet you at the door
Booking was easy and the table was ready for us as we arrived
Quality of the food was excellent and that went for all of us on our booking of four as we all choose a different starter and main course
The staff are very attentive but not pushy
Will happily return
So happy to have discovered this restaurant, can’t fault a single thing !!!!
As always food and service were perfect
Fantastic authentic Italian food, and lovely staff.
Incredible food with attentive and warm service
Visited at the weekend and just LOVED this little restaurant. The food was just incredible, the pizza was tasty, the burrata perfectly milky and the tiramisu home made, silky smooth and not frozen! The wine was reasonable and good, but the cocktails were just astounding - I love a margarita and this was one of, if not THE best I have ever had. The staff were friendly, attentive and warm and I can not wait to go back
Best italian restaurant in London!
The food is excellent and the service very good, the restaurant location works well being far enough away from borough market to avoid the tourists but close enough to avoid a lengthy walk. The place is modest in design but nicely done but go here for really authentic Italian food.
