Great food, attentive and friendly staff 5*
We went for a late Thursday night meal. The restaurant was empty but we didn’t mind. Our waitress Ayanna was lovely and very attentive. I can’t wait to visit again just to see her!
Food was good.
Waitress was poor, too new and too opinionated. Wasn’t comfortable with conversation, and wasn’t wise enough not to lead with her opinion inappropriately.
The atmosphere was dead and empty. Indicating that it was all that popular.
We wouldn’t go back.
Food was good but for the price paid the service needs to be improved. Two lovely young waitress but seemed to have had very little or no training.
Waitress needed training... but excellent food! The portion sizes were just about right, and it was a good deal.
Excellent food and great service from Laura. Will come back.
We visited OKO for the first time early on Saturday evening. We received first class customer service from the staff and were made to feel really welcome. The food was superb - my husband is not a great fan of sushi but the pudding made up for it - totally delicious. The restaurant was very clean and had great air con which was very welcome. The noise level was moderate and not intrusive. I would definitely recommend.
What a wonderful gem of a place. Delicious sushi and food overall and Laura was fabulous. We love her! Great vibe and all in all, just what we needed after an extremely long day travelling from London to Newcastle then onto Birmingham. Lychee martinis scrumptious! Thank you for having us.
Was very quiet but still a nice vibe and the service was good
The atmosphere was good the service was friendly and efficient without being overbearing the host pitched it just right. The food was presented beautifully but for me just didn’t quite taste as fresh as some of the other city centre sushi spots. Gaijen and sushi passion in my opinion are superior. But certainly a nice venue and good service.
Great food and excellent service, second time I've been and i'll be back!! The venue is great, nice layout, decor and easy to get to. The cocktail menu is good, although most of the things I chose were a little too sweet but if you ask they will tailor them to suit your taste. The food is divine, freshly made and good sized portions. The staff must be ex-John Lewis because they are fabulous, very knowledgeable about the menus, friendly but not intrusive, very good indeed.
Food is amazing but compared with other sushi in Birmingham it is a little more expensive:)
Very nosy. Couldnt even hear someone sitting right next to me. Had a event launch on but when booking this was not mentioned.
We were fortunate that the place was pretty much empty and our waitress was very nice and had time to spend with us. Unfortunately the food was not authentic. This is appears to be an Asian owned and run restaurant that is serving Japanese food ... and not doing a particularly good job of it. I don't know who they have in the kitchen but I would guess and bet money it's no Sushi Chef! There are better places to go.
I took my friend for her birthday treat. We were very impressed with the staff, everyone was very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the food very much, especially the salmon, it was delicious. The bottomless Prosecco was fantastic. The only downside for us was the music which was very loud, however we wouldn’t let that stop us visiting again.
La qualité de la nourriture est execrable, l'ambiance est trop bruyante et pour le coup c'est cher.
The food was excellent and the service from Lora was very good.
However it’s not a venue I would select for a more special occasion. The ambience is not one of a restaurant and more reflective of the late bar in which the 8 tables are located.
Restaurant and service was amazing! I’m allergic to avocado and they accommodated my allergy perfectly! They managed to make me the sushi I wanted without the avocado will definitely dine there again!
We thought we'd get a relaxing Japanese experience, but definitely not . We walked into a bar with blaring music and a hen party . We ordered as little as possible and made our escape. The food we did have was actually ok but definitely not the experience we were expecting.
Myself and my partner went to OKO for his birthday. We had Laura serve us and she was amazing! From helping us pick the best drinks to the tastiest food on the menu! It for sure won’t be our last visit to Oko! Best sushi in birmingham!!!
Had a great time, thank you so much Laura .. you gave us 5star service
food was amazing, service was very friendly and speedy.
ambience was nice bill was quite expensive but it didn't help having 10 cocktails.
would definitely recommend an go again.
Great sushi st a reasonable price. Wasn’t aware that the restaurant was at the side of the cocktail bar.
Perfect meals during our 15th year anniversary celebration! Delicious meals with attentive waitress. We will definitely return in the future.
Absolutely amazing would definitely recommend staff are polite food is amazing music was brilliant x
Excellent service for our anniversary meal. The sushi is fresh and really good and a great choice of cocktails. The best thing about this place is the service, in a very nice stylish bar.
Waitress was fab and so was the food. Was saddened I could not tip waitress on card tho as I had very little cash and she was amazing! Very accommodating for a coeliac
We dined early here prior to a concert at the Symphony Hall. naturally it was pretty quiet but we enjoyed good service and the sashimi was delicious.
Food is amazing. Possibly the best Japanese restaurant in Birmingham food wise. Perfect for date night or night out with friends. Can get busy and noisy as it is a bar but i love it there.
Lovely food and great service on a Friday night before going to a gig. Thanks!
The waitress on Friday night (11th Jan) was lovely and provided excellent service, polite, informative and with a lovely smile. Food was delicious, will definitely come again.
Food is really good, even thou we were only couple in the restaurant service was poor and had to fetch own drink sitting on the bar waiting to be brought over. Waitress really helpful knew the menu and gave good recommendations. The only thing that lets this place down is customer service lots of staff but nobody paying attention to the customer. Probably would not go again as not as authentic as I was expecting and quite pricey especially as the customer service was poor.
Oko dokey, this is a place with a big heart, great mulled wine delicious food with exceptional service from Laura.
Difficult to give a fair review here. We had a fun night but the food was rubbish and they didn't have any Japanese beer.
However the staff were pleasant and they had excellent dance music from the 90s which happens to be right up our street.
The only dish that was good was the salmon sashimi. The tuna was tasteless and with a cloying (previously frozen) texture. The tempura batter was wet and soggy not set and crispy.
Would have liked to like it but can't recommend it
We were there for a birthday meal and our host Laura was amazing from the moment we walked into Nuvo! She made sure we were always okay and that we were happy with the food and drinks that we ordered. She even helped us by recommending a few things off the sushi menu for us which we did go for and they were lovely! Prior to booking I had mentioned that it is a birthday meal that we were there for and after our mains, Laura came out with a surprise dessert that said happy birthday on it. My boyfriend and I were honestly SO impressed and we would definitely go back there again. The service and the food was outstanding which made the whole birthday experience a really lovely one!
Amazing rest one of the best Japanese in Bham .. highly recommended with good atmosphere..
This is NOT a restaurant. It is a bar with a few tables in the corner. Do not be fooled into booking a table unless you want loud dance music and poor table service. We were made to wait for a table (we had a reservation) and the staff never came back to get us so we walked out without eating.
We came 1930, finding us being the only guests, exept 3 people in the bar, so we decided to find another place. I cannot say anything about the food quality, because we never tried it. I was told thursdays are quite and a big conference ended the day before so this was a bit "change-over day". Hope I can come back another day, the place looked really nice on the web and also IRL.
Lora, our waitress, was fantastically accommodating, chatty, knowledgeable about sushi and really made my partner's birthday unique. The chef was brilliant too, surprising us with added extras to our sushi and a treat for afterwards, complete with a sparkler to mark the occasion. The bar gent rose up to my request of a unique mocktail, which was delicious. Everything felt personal and we will definitely be going back with a bigger party!
We are thrilled to have this Japanese restaurant in Westport. Brian is the owner/chef of this place and has impeccable taste and attention to detail. The service is terrific. Everyone who works here is friendly and professional. We love this restaurant! It’s in our top 5.
