Lovely meal at Oktopus. Interesting food combinations in the dishes and they all tasted great. Good veggie options - not much meat for meat eaters but good fish and seafood. The wine was reasonably priced for the quality. The service was good and attentive while being nicely laid back. Would definitely return.

First time visit to Oktopus but had tried some of the dishes at Baltic market, really impressed. Quite small but I like that intimacy food was great as was the service. Rounded off with a lovely bottle of wine.
We shall return

This place has real character. The dishes are sumptuously prepared within full view by almost choreographed chef precision whose joint talents continuously produced every imaginable cultivation of pescean delights throughout a long and memorable evening! The atmosphere is both subtle and warm and the brick work and soft lights make the perfect sensuous environment from which to explore the dark wonders of the sea! The menu finds a holistic balance between earth sea and air without costing you the skies however and we enjoyed cured venison next to our popcorn mussels and some truly delicate veg dishes. Tucked discreetly off Hardmam St, Oktopus is a rare pearl in Liverpool's growing cuisine culture.

We visited Oktopus on the recommendation of my brother in law and to celebrate my wife's birthday.
The staff were friendly, helpful and professional. The food was of great quality, beautifully cooked, fresh and interesting but without pretention. Our bottle of red wine was excellent.
It was very quiet , only one other table but apparently this was because it was lunchtime. However we were happy with that and it gave the staff time to be able to talk with us.
We will certainly return and also recommend it to others.
Thank you Oktopus for a great birthday meal!

Excellent service, ambience and food. So accommodating - they kept the restaurant open during lunch and dinner service due to a train delay - we will definitely return.

Fantastic food - great ingredients, cooking & flavour combinations. Big juicy mussels; the best chips I've ever had; could eat the 'black olive caramel' by the spoonful (start selling jars please!). Pleasantly surprised by generous portion size on the set lunch menu (too often an excuse for small portions). Very reasonably priced, including the drinks (can't remember the last time I paid under a fiver for a decent G&T in restaurant). Fab friendly service. Unbelievable beer selection. Nice chilled bistro atmosphere, good tunes. Can barely fault it, but one or two more options on the lunch menu would be nice (mainly a fish option that's not shellfish, and an extra pud) - but that's being really critical. Really hope this place is a success, we'll definitely be back :)

From the minute we arrived we were well looked after. The menu was explained in detail and recommendations made my our server. We had the. braised beets with hung yoghurt, white cabbage and crayfish , and sardines followed by the most delicious chocolate tort I have ever tasted. It was a lovely meal and absolutely great value. Treat yourself to a lovely experience and try Oktopus.

Visited on Friday. Great location if you’re going to Philharmonic Hall. We were looked after by Bertie who was really attentive without being intrusive. She explained the menu is designed for sharing and recommended the number of dishes without being pushy. The food was sublime, lots of locally sourced ingredients and a really inventive menu. Favourites were Menai mussels, and a tasty chick pea dish, panisse(?)as well as beautifully fresh sourdough bread served with beer infused butter. It was a real treat for the taste buds, a little culinary adventure.
I would say try it and I’m sure you’ll find a dish to love.
Will return next time we’re in Liveppl.

Lovely food, nice atmosphere. In between Christmas and New Year it wasn't too busy, so the waiters were a little over-attentive. Excellent venue for a casual date.

We decided to try this restaurant with local friends who had heard of it but hadn't yet tried it. Very welcoming, good service, obviously popular - nice environment, good location and reasonably priced. Our party of four were recommended to have "2 to 3 dishes each", so we ordered all 8 dishes available from the menu, and shared them between us as they arrived. Every dish was very tasty in it's own right - my only criticism would be that they didn't 'go' together - there is no 'theme' or predominant style, cuisine or flavour running throughout the menu, however, I guess you could choose 2 or 3 dishes from the menu which do 'go', and have a perfectly enjoyable meal. We did not leave hungry, although slightly disappointed that a choice of sweet was unavailable because they had run out.

Excellent food - very creative twist on traditional British cuisine served in tapas style, paired brilliantly with equally unique cocktails. Popcorn mussels were fantastic. Sadly waiting staff were short staffed and were noticeably overworked but otherwise excellent. Good value for money. Could be quieter.

This was an interesting place to meet for lunch, tucked away behind Hardman St in Liverpool. Great seasonal food, very fresh, limited menu but that was understood and plenty of choice including veggie option. Will definitely go again and take my kids.

We were left feeling still very hungry even after spending £70 for 2! The menu is not extensive or varied enough for us. The portion sizes far too small even for small plates.( we are used to going to tapas restaurants) The whole idea of this concept is to share yet the pate dish only came out with 1 very thin small piece of soda bread. Not even enough for one person. The large dish of lamb rump was disappointing as it came on a bed of haricot beans but that was it! No other veg with it which made the dish not only expensive at £18 but also not very wow considering they are marketing themselves as gourmet cuisine! Also filtered coffee was just warm not hot. Service was good and the restaurant had very nice decor but the fact it was empty at 7 o’clock on a Saturday night speaks volumes.

This had the feel of a restaurant on the right lines, but still finding its feet. When we booked (via Open Table), we specified that one of the group was gluten intolerant; but no acknowledgement of that on arrival. A relatively minor gripe, but the kind of attention to detail that can make a three-star rating into a four-star. Table was very wide, so with the echoey bare-brick walls and the too-loud 'landfill funk/jazz music' it was hard to chat easily so far apart. That vibe might be more suited to a bustling daytime lunch, rather than a relaxed evening meal. The food made up for those minor shortcomings, though. Good selection of beers. Highlights: 'popcorn mussels' starter; chicken liver parfait; grilled sardines; lamb rump. All fairly priced. Four starters; seven dished, a bottle of wine and a couple of beers £123 (£140 with tip).

I'm told this place is buzzing at night, we visited for lunch. The restaurant was cold and we were the only people in there. Food choices limited and not great. Sorry guys.
