I love the starters especially popocorn mussels. And the lamb is great. It would be better if had more choices for dessert😊
Excellent is how I would sum this place up. The menu is created using seasonal produce and is different without being pretenious - just seriously good quality food and welcoming staff.
Beef cheek melted in your mouth and was full of flavour, crayfish salad was deliciously fresh, zingy and by no means a small portion, pork belly had crackling to perfection.
Popcorn mussels and bread with beer butter was a surprise treat too.
Beer menu from local brewer had a great selection ( from my real ale expert guest ) and the wine list was fantastic - I had an ice cold glass of Sancerre.
Nice buzzy, relaxed but grown up atmosphere, perfect for a date, chilled dinner with friends or special occasion... the food does the talking!
Also if you wanted to carry on for a drink afterwards the Buyers Club next door has a great wine / beer list and pretty outdoor area with twinkly lights.
After living in London for 14 years this was a superb secret find - I will definitely return.
Very impressed with this find. Not too difficult to find, despite some other reviews. Really fresh and tasty food, speedy and friendly service
Wasn’t impressed with the menu choice.Limited for anyone wanting chicken.I ordered what I could from menu but meat was excluded.Nothing to shout about was OK,
A great restaurant hidden behind a very busy road going out of Liverpool. The ambience was great and the food was delicious. Their lamb dish was superb. The menu was based on sharing which was a brilliant idea. It was great to see the chefs working In the room too. There was a really nice bar attached to the restaurant and it gave a discount on drinks if you dined in Oktopus. We had a great night
Visited for a birthday meal after reading a review describing it as almost perfect. Flavour combinations where brilliant. Dishes were imaginative and well presented. Staff where attentive but not in your face. The wine was good. Lovely all round. Criticisms are soft drinks menu and dessert menu are limited [this applies to an awful lot of restaurants and needs to change] and the belly pork needed a bit more rendering down as it could have been more tender. As criticisms go these are minor and Oktopus is a brilliant dining experience if you get the chance to visit :)
The server was friendly and just the right amount attentive. The food was super interesting, particularly the leaks with cheese curds. Drink we’re really reasonably priced and a great selection too. Great place for any occasion - would def recommend!
Inventive fresh seasonal food. You can watch the chefs create the meals whilst you wait which makes you even hungrier! The staff a friendly and service was excellent. Try the popcorn mussels. I could have eaten about 4 portions by myself! If you like your food then this is a must visit. Can’t wait to return!
As always excellent. Food is so good, original dishes with lots of interest. Our party chose one of everything and shared which worked well.
Only tiny problem was that it was a bit cold in there. Other than that though, brilliant service, food and ambience
Always recommend to others. Will be back
Overall the food was very disappointing, lacking in flavour and seasoning to borderline bland. The meats were okay, just grilled/fried meat presented in a basic artistic form. This idea of a tapas style of order 3 meals each and share doesn’t work because the portions vary in size from small to not enough though the price is medium to high. The wine list was also disappointing and a poor wine though we did choose it. Overall an underwhelming experience and one we were very dissatisfied with.
This was our first time at Oktopus, and the staff were really helpful in explaining the sharing menu. The dishes we ordered came quickly and the food was outstanding - not the run of the mill menu at all. Staff were very attentive, making sure all was OK.
We would definitely - very convenient for the Philarmonic Hall.
Second visit and just as good. Staff are lovely. Great food with a different menu daily.
Outstanding informal food, delicious flavours, buzzy atmosphere, lovely beer, excellent value.
Oktopus is a great place to eat. The quality of the food is what they are interested in and presenting a variety of styles and approaches. They serve sharing plates...but this is not tapas, the plates are big enough to share and some of the "main dishes" are enough for two or three.
Good food with interested staff and consistent quality
Wide variety of imaginative tapas +. Every option was interesting and well received by the four of us dining
A lovely restaurant. The parsnip gnochi and the carrot dishes were our favourite despite the majority of us being confirmed carnivors but to be honest all the food was spectacular.
Not the first time that I visit Oktopus, and it is always a certainty. The place is really nice and cozy, the food is great, the staff always kind and available. What I especially like, is the fact that the ambient allows for conversation, even when the place is fully booked.
Absolutely loved octopus. Came for a night in liverpool and to try this resturant inpaticular and it did not disapoint. Food was amazing beautiful atmospher and staff that couldnt do enough for us. Would highly reccomend
Some interesting combinations of ingredients. The menu changes regularly although we were told that lamb rump is likely to feature. We had the chef's selection which was ideal for two to share.
My family and I had a really special lunch. The food was exceptional and the service very good; discrete, attentive and informative. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anybody who likes eating well.
Really lovely food, seasonal ingredients and nice staff. You need to follow them on Instagram to see the latest menu as it changes from week to week
We had a wonderful dinner at Oktopus and the popcorn mussels made big impact on all four of us! We will be back
Lovely food and wine. Beer also excellent. Very attentive, helpful and friendly staff. Nice cosy atmosphere.
First visit we all enjoyed will return. Suggest open at lunch, menu would suit
Great, friendly service (and good advice) well presented & tasty food. Lot of seafood dishes on a simple menu but even our seafood avoider found plenty of other things to have. A little pricy but good quality.
Best for those who love to share.
Great meal. So good we booked straight away for next week!
Visiting our son at University of Liverpool. We had been recommended this restaurant so decided to try it. The menu is designed for sharing and the plates came out at regular intervals from nibbles through smaller to larger plates. The food was lovely start to finish. Recommended.
Amazing food, fantastic service, couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate my birthday with friends and family
Our second visit to Oktopus did not disappoint, particularly enjoyed the popcorn mussels!
Oktopus is a lovely atmospheric hideaway in a courtyard just off the Georgian/University district. Very good, creative take on local tapas with good wines and beers to accompany, great, knowledgeable service and, though not cheap, still good value for the excellence on offer. Only slight hitch is that, on an arctic February night, the venue is somewhat chilly. No doubt a huge asset come the summer but something the proprietors should consider. We've been before and will definitely go again soon - one of |Liverpool's very best.
Great food, great service .
What more can you ask for x
This place needs to be raved about for a quick minute. My boyfriend and I had the perfect date night. The venue itself is discreet, yet very inviting. Everything flowed just right, from the beautiful dimmed lighting to the wide open pass (which will give you a front row seat to the full experience) Each plate was so unique and carefully hand crafted. By far this is one of my favorite dining experiences I have come across. Don’t just take my word , try it yourself !
Took my wife here for valentines dinner. Greeted by warm, friendly, knowledgable staff. Fairly basic surroundings (bare brick walls, old basic furniture, mdf etc). Brilliant IPA selection + drinks in general. Mainly though food is absolutely sensational, similar mix to Maray i.e. small plates with a twist, excellent. Quite expensive but worth it, definitely recommend.
Incredible food. Lovely service. Great atmosphere. Favourite restaurant in Liverpool.
Oktopus continues to live up to its well-deserved reputation as joint first amongst Liverpool's newish restaurant wave. So very different to the days of The Mariners.
Fantastic evening and very, very good food. A great addition to the city's dining scene.
I felt that dinner was top notch as usual however the dessert left much to be desired. The lamb was beautiful as always and the cod was perfectly cooked.
The texture and plating of the Panacotta was a bit underwhelming and so was the Chocolate Ganache. I felt that the desserts were not worthy of the value put on it and more could be done with that course.
However that should not take anything away from everything else. The mussels was great and so was the Buffalo Mozzerella. Would still come back. Hoping for a bit more of the dessert end
Excellent food and service. We ordered too much, all of it delicious but probably needed some advice about quantities!
We were really impressed with the food....different, innovative & so so tasty!!
Arrived 9pm shown to our table immediately first glance of the whole dining area was impressive its a very unique place, we had a look at the menu which was slightly confusing but then a very helpful waiter talked us through it and made sure we were looked after.
the 6 dishes we ordered then came out in intervals which i was very happy with and the food was absolutely amazing, will definitely go back
