A nice lunch and a good choice of menu. It’s an excellent ambience on a Sunday anyway and the staff are always friendly too.
The food was delicious and the staff were brilliant.
A good choice of dishes and good value. Not as nice as previous visits and dishes not cleared from our table promptly, we had to move some ourselves.
Restaurant was lovely and food was great. Service was a little slow but waitresses were very pleasant.
Only issue we had was the 18th birthday party that was in. The toilets were so full and noisy with young girls and we struggled to get a seat at the bar after dinner. On the whole the evening was lovely.
Buffet on Sunday until 2:30pm.I have been told by friends that used to be regulars on a Sunday afternoon that “One Square “seem to have cut back on the overall quality and the amount of choices available from the Buffet. The experience was reasonable, although choices for vegetarians is not great .Vegetable side dishes available are quite average and some are slightly warm. The sweets are probably the highlight. The overall service and first time experience was okay.
Warm welcome. Attentive service. Great food.
Ordered lobster and scallops and other food lobster was over £50 it was absolutely tiny 2 small bits meat in we sent it back not value for money thought it was total rip off rest food was lovely staff where lovely
Superb staff and service. Couldn't recommend more to anyone and everyone I know! Will 100% be back soon!
Waited 25 minutes before being offered a drink. Service was slow.
Food when delivered was ok.
Always a pleasure to eat at the One Square Brasserie
Dont usually opt to eat in my hotel when staying so central but decided to on this occassion.
Travelling as a female alone the table position was important to me. The staff made sure I was seated per my preference.
The staff were exceptional. Professional, helpful, attentive but not intrusive and personable.
The food was exceptiional. Presented baeutufully - loved the soup poured at the table - the meat cooked to perfection, and the side orders were innovative in a good way not a mad way and made a great change from just your standard veg.
The wine was very reasonably priced, suprisingly so.
I'm really pleased I opted to 'eat in' during my stay. I would do so again with or without additiional colleagues.
Food was delicious and the service was fantastic. Staff attentive and nothing too much trouble.
The swing band was a nice touch but a bit loud when trying to have conversations. The desserts were also a bit of a let down. However, value for money very good!
Great food. Excellent for families to take the little ones off your hands via the kids club while you enjoy your lunch.
The restaurant was good. Staff very polite and attentive, first class treatment. The salad and starters buffet was great.
Only one option for soup which I didn’t like. The carvery was ok but the dauphinoise potatoes were not appetising.
There was so much dust on the shelf above the red wine sauce, it was a let down on the cleanliness.
Some of the furniture was dated and it showed as I spotted cracks and chips on tables and some chairs were stained which is another let down for such a high standard restaurant.
The dessert options were excellent and wine choices exquisite.
Overall a good experience.
The staff were friendly. The buffet lunch well laid out.The cold starters a huge choice prawns cocktail salmon trout mackerel usual salad items olives pates and soup which we didn't have. The roasts were pork or beef the beef was on the rare side but members of my party assured me it was very tender. There was also chicken lovely tasty gravy and a good selection of potatoes and vegetables.
The sweets too
many to name I had the carrot cake which was yummy. My sister in law who is a coeliac was well looked after.
A good selection of cheeses and coffee to follow.
Will I go back, yes
Four of us visited for lunch as the website said 1 course + drink for £12 served daily but apparently this is not served during the Festive period. After querying it took half an hour for the staff to offer 20% off the food bill. We ordered and then had to wait another half an hour, and prompt the waitress, before the food arrived. The plates had clearly sat under a heat lamp for some time, the gravy had baked on and the brioche toast was so soggy it was unpleasant. The side of chips also had a hair in it. No one checked with us during the meal. We were surprised at the audacity of the restaurant to automatically apply a 10% service charge to the bill. Needless to say did not pay the charge. It was a very disappointing experience especially for a 5* hotel. I wished we had chosen one of the many other places to eat in the area.
Well the welcome & service are lovely however whoever designed the festive menu should have their cooking skills & knowledge severely questioned. Chicken thigh croquette was horrific .. fortunately my hubby managed to get it over his throat whilst I ate his cauliflower & apple soup (once a ton of seasoning had been added) - we were glad we’d paid extra to have bread with the soup as when our main course arrived - 3 of us chose sea bass .. we were taken aback by the minuscule portion .. looked like half a fillet each, 2 potatoes and a slice of pear .. we then paid an additional £3.50 for vegetables .. just to balk our dinner. The basic festive 2 course was £25 I think .. absolutely not worth it and distinctly uninspiring :(
Booked Christmas lunch for out small team. No crackers on tables which would have been a nice touch. Service great up until end of mains at which point we asked if we could have a break. We were then ignored. No offer of dessert more drinks or coffee. They then had a cheek to stick a 10% service charge on the bill. Couldn’t fault the food. Just the service.
Very disappointed, took two friends to lunch, starters of crab and scallops were quite nice, however the main courses left a lot to be desired. My friends had the fish and chips, they said the fish itself was very good but the batter was to heavy and left most of it.
I had the steak sandwich which I sent back as it was cold, the second attempt was a little warmer but still not great. In retrospect I’ve realised that if you take a cold ciabatta add two condiments out of the fridge with a thin piece of meet it’s never going to be entirely successful.
The service was patchy, the waitress had to be remembered that we ordered wine and although none of us finished our main and leftovers quite a bit on our plates were never asked at any point if we enjoyed our meal.
A great disappointment!
Having been here two years ago for a Christmas Team lunch, I booked the Brasserie for this year's Christmas Team Lunch using the 'Festive Dining' link on The Sheraton's website.
We arrived expecting a festive atmosphere, but there was no indication that Christmas was but 8 days away - not a Christmas Cracker in site! Very disappointing!
Menus were given to us and I had to request the 'Festive menu', which was promptly brought to the table - surely they should be brought together?
The service was extremely slow - almost to the point where we wondered if they had forgotten about us.
Food was fine, but did not leave us wanting a dessert, so we settled for two courses.
All in all, we were disappointed with our experience and have already decided we wouldn't return next year.
The food here was really nice however the service was extremely poor and then they had a cheek to add on a 10% service charge. This should be disclosed prior to booking as well. The food took ages to come out and the waitresses were not attentive at all. We were waiting half an hour to order our dessert !
Reasonable food in very good surroundings. Pricey but that Edi for you (not that its an excuse)
Nice venue. Had the set festive menu. The spelt seemed to have far too much sauce therefore a little heavy. Fish was nice. Albeit wasn’t too busy we had to turn around and go to the icc bucket to fetch wine a fill glasses ourselves which seemed odd albeit not too much inconvenience. Was nice meal nice setting, would I rush back - maybe not
We very delighted and will recommend the restaurant
Enjoyed every minute of lunch at the Sheraton. Beautiful view, attentive, friendly & staff, great food, relaxing atmosphere - altogether a wonderful lunch.
The waiters don’t know anything about their menu. The food was awful. Please think twice if you want to go there
Special mention for Jess and Chris who provided great service
Charming staff. Well cooked food in a pleasant room.
Excellent value for money.
Food was amazing will definitely be back!! Steak was cooked perfect, scallops were amazing so many flavours and the chicken was amazing Aswel. Was really impressed.
Decided to visit One Square after reading very favourable reviews online. Maybe this made our expectations a little high.
5 out of our 6 meals were very nice
Staff member suggested we don't order cocktails (in the middle of Edinburgh Cocktail Week) as they take them too long to make
When the cocktails finally arrived, they were essentially a glass of crushed ice with about 50ml of liquid in the bottom
Food took an age to arrive (30+minutes after ordering) - although our waiter did apologise for the long wait without being asked
Other than our initial order, nobody asked if we'd like any more drinks in the 90mins we were there
Portion of salmon on a main dish was a bit of a joke. It was tiny
Not a terrible experience but certainly not worth the premium you pay to dine here. We were a group of six spending a long weekend in Edinburgh, this was our least favourite place we ate.
Not so wonderful that I would rush back ! Fairly pricey but service and welcome good and pleasant enough
Always one of our favourite venues for family get togethers. The Sunday lunch buffet is excellent value for money - delicious array of starters and desserts, choice of 2 roasts with tea and coffee all for £29 per adult and £14.50 per child. Live jazz adds to the relaxed atmosphere. We highly recommend One Square to everyone.
Arrived 5 mins early - offered to sit/ wait or go straight to table (due to wheelchair) “but we’re not open for a few minutes”.
No indication that open for serving - so we just made a move at 12.31 to the food counters.
Excellent starters and variety.
Main course of very good quality.
Sweets impressive and worth a return trip especially given the ice cream option too - nice touch!
Cheese board - fab
Waiters efficient but not all as personable as perhaps could have been.
Worth a return trip when we’re back.
It is always a nice restaurant to visit and the staff are very friendly but let you still enjoy your food without undue pampering which I like. I have been to the restaurant many times and it’s always good .
Nice night but not keen to go back.
My husband enjoyed his steak but I think at £34, you should serve with more than watercress & a sauce.
Vegetarian options were really poor, I had falafel burger, really greasy and flavours didn’t really go.
Very much a hotel restaurant feeling, no real atmosphere.
Desserts were very mediocre, we eat some of them.
An excellent and very reasonably priced menu, with the option of a two or three course pre-theatre alternative from 5 PM, and an attractive wine list make for a really enjoyable experience, especially with such efficient and friendly service, and an attractive setting overlooking Festival Square and the Usher Hall. The well chosen menu items, the presentation of the dishes, and the excellence of the service are all equally admirable. It is a pleasure to eat here.
I went to one square for afternoon tea and was not disappointed. The service and food were excellent, with a lot of variety. It was actually more food than my husband and I could eat. If I return to Edinburgh I will definitely go there again and highly recommend one square if you’re looking for a relaxing afternoon tea experience! We also had a view of the castle from where we were sitting.
Great service! Jess was a fantastic hostess!!
Excellent value and great experience. Lovely relaxed feeling to the place and great quality of food. The jazz band added to the overall experience.
