Orsay has that French flair. The ambiance is comfortably sophisticated. We sat in the enclosed veranda, so the noise level was fine. The food is quite good and for brunch try the bread basket (with luscious pastries) to accompany your main course. The service is attentive. It’s a great spot on the upper Eastside!
Nice neighborhood place. Food is always good.
We usually have a perfect meal at Orsay but they were off their game and the fish came out dry and the Halibut was undercooked. When they fell short and took another half hour to rectify, we thought they would do something to make up for this but when the bill came they over charged us and put an extra glass of wine on the bill instead of sending over either a round of drinks or dessert. We were not impressed
Food was ok. Staff super friendly and accommodating, fun and festive atmosphere, great for a group celebrating a special occasion...except for ok food. Not even the bread was noteworthy. Highlights were the onion soup and vegetarian tangine.
I’m sorry about the food because the staff work hard and are great!
Very good! Good food, excellent staff, the restaurant is very charming!
We had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner at Orsay. When I inquired about replacing the potatoes with more vegetables on the traditional turkey dinner I was told there would be no substitutions. So, I chose the roasted salmon. It was absolutely delicious with an interesting vegetable preparation and very tasty sauce. My husband had the steak and potatoes. To start we shared the always rich and wonderful French onion soup. For dessert, an apple tart with cinnamon ice cream and nice strong coffee with warmed milk. It was a very pleasant evening but I wish they had been more flexible about the potatoes on the turkey dinner.
We will definitely dine at Orsay again! The food is delicious, the ambience and decor French and the service is amazing. We celebrated Thanksgiving at Orsay and in spite of our large party and a full restaurant, everything was cooked to perfection, served hot. I highly recommend Orsay.
The food was plentiful and delicious and the service genteel. Even for a Thanksgiving prix fixe, we were treated as graciously as any other busy night.
Thanksgiving
Considering we were there on Thanksgiving, the staff was very well-organized and attentive and the food was delicious.
Slow service, fish entrees just fair
Excellent French Cuisine, but where are the mussels and frites?
The entire experience could not have been better. Truly an authentic French bistro on the upper east side of Manhattan. Kumamoto oysters and pate to start was scrumptious and the fro freesia salad perfectly balanced with light coating of dressing. Both the Sole and Snapper were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Service was attentive yet not over bearing. All in all, a great night out !
Comfortable atmosphere, not too noisy, good service The food is good, overall.
The service was slow and poor. Mistakes made in our order. Food is just basic to average, nothing tasted that fresh or served hot. def not worth the high prices they charge. OVERRATED.
Orsay was a charming French restaurant with turn of the century details in its décor and French inspired food. I had a frisee salad with egg and monk fish cooked Provencal style. We ordered the pumpkin soufflé for desert and it was something different as well as delicious. I would eat here again. The wait staff was very warm and I particularly want to document my appreciation for the Hostess who was so friendly and had none of the pretentiousness you often see when you walk in the door of a restaurant in NYC. Très bien! Merci!
Their menu is really not to my liking: the menu selection has no light salads or pasta.
Their food is very heavy and, in my opinion, way over priced.
Vivre la France!
Enjoy very authentic french fare at this old world favorite. We had a great brunch although it was packed!
They were really kind about having our children w us. Great service and food on top of that.
Absolutely fabulous food. I had a Croque Monsieur that was out of this world. The bread and butter were stellar! Can’t wait to go back!
The service was outstanding. Our server had a full understanding of their entire menu and excellent recommendations for wines based on our epicurean selections. The food and the ambience were also outstanding
Exactly what a classic French bistro should be! Delicious food, tasty wines, finely crafted drinks and attentive service. We'll definitely be going back!
Orsay is my go-to place in my neighborhood. The food is consistently good and I always receive a warm welcome whether I am dining alone or with friends or family. The bar is terrific as well. I recently brought my 85-year old father here for dinner and he loved it.
I made a reservation for 8:40 and that had my crew of four waiting for over 30 minutes while they seated everyone else who walked in. It was obvious they chose people who looked elder and more expensive over us. I have been here for brunch many times and enjoyed it but this was incredibly rude and prejudice of them so I will not be returning. The steak was small and not special for $35 and a few pieces of lettuce. There are better French restaurants in the city.
The service was above and beyond from beginning to end. They really made our anniversary dinner extra special with complimentary champagne and dessert. They were very kind and attentive, but never made us feel the slightest bit rushed.
Noisy and somewhat disappointing food at full price
All good! Burgers were fantastic! Waitstaff were super friendly.
We had dinner here with extended family. The salmon entré I had was delicious. I think everyone was very happy with their choices. They have a nice children’s menu and delicious desserts. Highly recommend. Very friendly service. The ambience is lively French bistro. It’s very authentic and delicious.
The restaurant was outstanding.Eating out side was wonderful.Service was sublime as was the food.No downside.Loved it.
Orsay is a little bit of Paris on the ues. After all these years, the ambience is still lovely, the food’s still wonderfully fresh and well-prepared and the service is great. Tres bon!
Orsay is a classic. It is a neighborhood spot with quality food. Not a cutting edge scene, and that is a plus
We had a wonderful lunch, and were well served by Carlos Robles. This restaurant has become my favorite place to dine with my sisters!
The food and service was excellent. It was a little loud but worth the noise.
I would recommend with the caveat that the noise level is way too much. If you are looking for a nice dinner with a friend or friends with whom you intend to have a conversation without yelling at each other, then too bad.
Lauren was a great hostess!
I included in my reservation that this was a birthday dinner for my mother, mentioned it to the host AND the waiter and nothing was done - not that I was expecting a sing-along, but maybe "happy birthday" written on the plate is easy enough. That aside, the oysters were the tiniest and most flavorless I have ever eaten anywhere in the world. The escargot was classically flavored and as good as I've had in France. The Ahi tuna special was delicious though I was surprised it was prepared in "chunks" over a Mediterranean-seasoned pile of mashed potatoes. the coq-au-vin was also classically done, hearty and delicious. The "ile flottante" dessert was absolutely insipid. The meringue that is traditionally a blank canvas that comes to life with the creme Anglaise was as even lacking sweetness and left to its own devices in a pool of lifeless creme that tasted more of milk than of eggs, or cognac or even vanilla. That was a real bummer of a way to end a celebratory meal. The service was neither good nor awful. The waiter really was on auto-pilot. An empty cocktail glass remained on the table even after red wine was ordered with the main course, all the way until the end. And by the end of the meal, our plates clearly finished, the waiter must have passed by at least four times and it never occurred to him that he too is capable of stepping in to clear a table if the bus-person is not around. The table itself littered with bits of bread was never swept (which surprised me, as it is a standard way to prepare the table for the final course). Overall, this was a let-down for the first visit to Orsay. I might return with a craving for the coq-au-vin, but otherwise, I don't think it will be on my radar no can I reccomend it with confidence. I will say, however, that the friendliest member of the staff we encountered was the host.
Always delicious - they know how to do it!
Classic neighborhood restaurant that never fails to deliver excellent food, great service and a tasty beverage. Highly recommends the oysters. Got to enjoy a nice evening with a dear friend who lives in the near me and this is a go-to-spot!
First time at Orsay for a birthday celebration....and it did not disappoint. Food was very good and service was excellent. It felt like a true French bistro. Loved it.
I will recommend with caution
Be patient with slow service, be ready to talk loudly to your companions and expect good but not great food.
