Italian restaurant, Osteria, is located on the second floor of the Barbican Centre and offers fantastic views over London. A modern yet warm and inviting space, this Barbican restaurant takes inspiration from its surroundings such as the brass bannisters of the Barbican Centre. The restaurant offers set menus as well as pre and post theatre menus for those visiting any of the Barbican performances.View Private Dining Details
Very limited pre-theatre menu which wasn't particularly exciting - it's basically pasta and one fish dish. The wine service was not good - they do offer wines by the glass, 500 ml and bottles. If you opt for 500 ml (as many couples do) this will arrive in a carafe and you have no idea what you're drinking. Our waiter arrived with two white wine carafes and didn't seem sure which was ours, we weren't either when we tasted it! Surely it would be better to bring the bottle(s) to the table and pour into a carafe there (we know it's likely to be out of more than bottle so no point in hiding it!).
Great for a quiet meal before the show. Excellent service.
Good was phenomenal. Super attentive staff. Will be back next month thanks!
Osteria is a pleasant restaurant in the Barbican Centre, recently refurbished, with great views over the Barbican lake. A short but reliable menu and friendly service.
Really enjoyed our meal, but disappointed that the pre-theatre menu wasn’t available on this evening as we were looking for a more reasonably priced meal.
Otherwise the foods was lovely as was the service, so will consider returning (despite Barbican not being a regular haunt)
Good food and ambience. Very good, prompt service. Nice location pre-theatre or cinema.
Enjoyed a pre theatre supper. Convenient location for Barbican Theatre. Smooth attentive service, comfortable seating and enjoyable meal.
Although the vegetables served with my wife’s fish were warm rather than hot. The waiter did offer to change them.
Nice food, but very small portions! Given cost, not good value.
Wow. A restaurant you can carry on a conversation in? Who knew they still existed? A+ for acoustics. The room is very nice with a view of the retro (now nowtro) Barbican courtyard. The decor could use a slight freshen-up, if I’m being critical. Staff was lovely, warm and gracious. I like a limited menu but this one could use maybe one more choice. The wild boar tortellini was good comfort food. Tiramisu was a little dry. I would come here again for a quiet dinner with friends or a date but not for a gastro experience.
Nice glass of wine but food was very expensive for what it was - a handful of salt and pepper squid on a huge bed of salad leaves then a ball of ice cream with a few strawberries - not worth the set menu price.
Shame there are no decent and reasonably priced restaurants in the area apart from the chain Cote Brasserie
Lovely location, efficient sevice and very good food, all nicely presented. Staff were friendly and attentive. Great place for a meal before a visit to the Barbican theatre
We had a pre-theatre dinner here last week prior to seeing Jesus Christ Superstar at the Barbican. Although the menu is quite limited what we had was delicious and well cooked and very good value for money. I would definitely eat here again.
A bit too pricey for what you get, in particular quite small portions
Food was OK although “squid” turned out to be fairly average calamari, but the portions were tiny! Not for the hungry.
excellent pre theatre venue, very efficient indeed.
We had the pre-theatre menu & since visiting a few months ago, the food quality has gone up another notch. The presentation was superb and the food delicious, a gourmet experience! The staff were friendly & attentive. I thoroughly recommend Osteria for theatre/concert dining. You can order drinks for the interval too & even have your dessert after the performance.
Food excellent but slightly marred by the fact that we were not offered the lunch menu on arrival, just the a la carte so had to ask for the lunch menu. We were served tap water on request but it was luke warm.
I could not, therefore, give 5 stars for more than the food.
Absolutely fantastic service and food!
So convenient for the Barbican Theatre. Good meeting place and nice outlook.
Lovely setting, fantastic delicious food , lovely set lunch menu and excellent service. Highly recommended whether you are visiting the Barbican or just happen to be in the area.
Good food, good location, and ideal dining before the Barbican theatre shows.
The service deserves an extra mention excellent!
Perfect restaurant for a pre-dinner meal before going to an event at the Barbican. Excellent quality food and good value.
Great meal and service but restaurant was surprisingly empty (literally only us) for after theatre meal. But the food and friendliness of the staff well made up for that.
Lovely meal in a restaurant with a great view
Staff were polite attentive and friendly
We had the pre theatre menu all the food was good from the beef mozzarella starter to the cannoli desert
We really enjoyed an organic white wine
And left feeling we had a great meal
Perfect for pre-show at the Barbican or for drinks.
The food was very good and interesting and service was prompt and pleasant
Excellent service.High quality creative food, well prepared and attractively presented.Stylish ambiance.Very professional and efficient table service.
Set theatre menu. Good selection, well presented and excellent quality. Extremely good service.
Really tasty set lunch menu, which is good value for money. Nice quiet atmosphere. Make sure they bring you the set menu - we had to ask!
Nice place, quite but the quality of the food need a material improvement.
A very good pre-theatre meal. Main courses were particularly good- pea risotto and sea trout. Unfortunately we didn't have time for dessert. All in all, delicious food and friendly service.
We were running a little late so phoned through and were told no problem, take it easy. We’ll be here when you get here.
The welcome was friendly and relaxed and we were taken to a lovely table by the window. It was a hot day!
Menu was excellent, the wild boar pasta was beautiful.
Excellent service, not pressured and friendly
Great pre show meal - thank you. We’ll be back!
We enjoyed the food and the wine and very much liked the setting. The bar service was slow. They need to sort out their toilet facilities - there was no water in both male and female toilets and toilet doors would not close.
A hidden gems in the barbican centre. all very good food, service, friendly staff the only let down the toilets. Not checked enough
For a quick pre theatre meal it was fine. Decent quality food and wine for a reasonable (London) price. The menu is fairly limited - choice of 5 starters/5 mains but there was something for everyone to choose
Pre theatre great menu fast and really good food
Week-day lunch for two was a pleasant and unhurried experience. The lunch menu had sufficient choice and was very reasonably priced. The quality of the food and its presentation were first rate. It was agreeable to sit and watch the scene below the windows (people coming out of a degree ceremony the day we were there).
I had to think whether I would or wouldn't recommend. The food was good, although portions were quite small. The staff were friendly.
However the service was very slow and we had to chase both the pudding and the bill, and after nearly 2 hours in restaurant didn't have time for coffee.
The cheapest wine on menu at £19 was ok but nothing special and prices of the other wines were quite high.
However the location is good and ideal if you are going to Barbican.
Very convenient for theatre, service suitably quick. Menu gave good range of dishes at appropriate prices. Piano a shade loud.
A little slow to start in taking drinks orders, but once shown to the table all went well. Nice view over courtyard and, with the windows open a nice breeze to keep us cool on a hot day. The food was excellent and service fine. I would definitely visit again!
A lovely spot in the centre of the Barbican and the pre-theatre menu is particularly good value. Try to get one of the window tables on a summer's day when everything is open and breezy.
