Ox Club at Headrow House
Michelin Guide 2019 | Good Food Guide 2019
Very much enjoyed a very good meal and will be returning for sure. They forgot my clam chowder for my starter (I was the only one having a starter) but made up for this with a free glass of wine and an excellent main course. A quality restaurant.
Great food. A lovely venue - relaxed atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Excellent service and even better food.
Quite a lively venue so perfect for parties and groups.
I will be back soon.Loved it.
I never write reviews however, this Ox Club was a hidden gem to us! our first visit, the staff were friendly, knowledgable and efficient. The menu was interesting and innovative, chicken smoltz where have you been all our lives. We both had three courses of well presented and super tasty food. The porterhouse steak was probably the best steak we have ever eaten, and cooked perfectly as requested. The rice pudding was great and very light contrary to what you would expect from such a dessert we also had some great wine. A must for any foodie, we will be back for sure.
Outstanding thought provoking food with amazing service. Considering the standard of food I would say good value for money.
Definitely recommend this to all my friends great food
Good brunch, with the best pancakes I've ever had!
Delicious food, everything on the menu sounded amazing. Great, attentive service but not over-bearing or stuffy. A perfect balance of a casual atmosphere but excellent food & wine.
The food quality was excellent and the staff were welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly throughout. This was our first visit but we certainly don't expect it to be our last.
We had a great brunch. The team were very friendly and accommodating and the food was delicious.
We had a nice brunch. The service was very good. The kimchi in the Korean Fried Chicken was a bit bland, could’ve been better.
Great service, recommendations and food. We loved the pigs cheek starter. Steak with smoked mash and Cesar salad was also amazing. Great night and food.
Delicious food cooked very well.
We will definitely be back.
Access was through a courtyard with drinkers from the pub next door standing outside to smoke, it felt a little seedy. The restaurant itself was edgy in design, very under-presented like the style of a basement car park or warehouse, and the views from the windows were of multiple metal fire escape stairs. To use the toilet we had to walk through a dingy loud bar next door, and share the wash basins with pierced young grungy things dressed strangely for their drinking and snorting night out! We could talk though, I think the music was low and muffled, probably coming from the bar next door where it was unbearably loud.
The waitress was very pleasant and attentive. The menu was very brief. I had Beetroot Laab (what does that word even mean!) to start, to be honest it was like a packet of cubed beetroot coleslaw from my local supermarket. My husband had a special, a Thai pumpkin curry, but he was under-whelmed. Both starters were around £7 each. For main course we shared the Rib of Beef at £50, plus a couple of side dishes at around £5 each as it only comes with sauces. It tasted good but was quite tough and chewy, and it wasn’t massive for a sharing portion, though it claimed to be 800g some of which may have been the bone. For dessert my husband had Rice Pudding which was strange, and I had two scoops of sorbet and ice cream which were lovely. I think desserts were around £6 but less for the ice cream.
All in all, with a glass of wine each and a couple of hot drinks afterwards this dinner cost us well over £100. It was a good one-off experience but we both felt that for this price it should have been fine dining and perfect, and it really wasn’t. Although we enjoyed the surroundings for their eccentricity we felt ever so slightly uncomfortable and out of place. Glad we’ve been to try it but we won’t be going back.
My first visit will not be my last, had a fantastic meal! Superb.
Amazing place and incredibly amazing food, so happy with everything! Staff were great and the atmosphere was amazing too. It did come up to be a little expensive but it was expected and definitely worth it, would definitely go back again
Fabulous food and a warm welcome from lovely Matt.
Wonderful food, great, attentive service from knowledgable staff and a wonderful night all round
Fabulous well cooked food in relaxed setting. Highly recommend the lamb rump which was cooked perfectly with smoked potatoes and the cauliflower side dish with almonds. Chose the 2016 Chile Salvaje red wine which did not dissapoint. The hay icecream was weird and wonderful with the meadowsweet rice pudding. Will definitely be back.
A relaxed and friendly place, serving some seriously good food. An interesting selection of seasonal well chosen produce cooked with flair. The staff are welcoming, helpful and enthusiastic ensuring a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Always outstanding in all aspects, been a dozen times and there will be plenty more to come.
Lovely friendly vibe. Excellent service very nice people.
Some dishes were executed a little carelessly and weren’t seasoned. Smoked mash although it was delicious in flavour...texture not the best I wonder if it had been mashed in a food processor.
Other dishes were delicious
Lovely early dinner. The restaurant was quiet and the service was great. Low music playing in the background is nice and relaxing. The starter and main courses were excellent and I would definitely recommend trying their specials. The smoked mash is lush! Booked dinner here for my partner's birthday and he lived it.
Super impressed with this place. This was our second visit and I was just as impressed as the first. Menu, service and ambience all on point. The food is simply fantastic - a well thought through, seasonal menu and the waiting staff know it inside-out. Can't decide? Just ask - they'll happily talk you through a dish or make recommendations. Great wine selection, and craft ales available from the adjoining beer hall. Looking forward to our next visit!
Food was good but not as good as they think it is...waaaay overpriced.
Ox Club is my new favourite restaurant and I will definitely be returning regularly. The food is perfection and I like the relaxed atmosphere.
I JUST LOVE THE OX CLUB .WE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL TIMES.I LOVE THE UNPRETENTIOUSNESS,BUZZY ATMOSPHERE ,EXCELLENT SERVICE AND OF COURSE THE FOOD .WE HAD THE EX DAIRY COW ,ONGLET ,PORK CHOP AND LAMB ALL COOKED TO PERFECTION .THE SMOKED MASH AND CAULIFLOWER SIDES ARE DELICIOUS .DEFINITELY OUR GO TO FOR A SATURDAY NIGHT IN LEEDS.
Great food and lovely servyas ever.
Decent food, service was very slow and we always had to ask for something rather than being offered which was disappointing but they were busy.
Food was fantastic. Oysters and Steak. Fantastic service from all the staff.
An Interesting varied menu including creative plant based options which ensures all are comfortable and can perhaps experiment. An array of desserts that were actually worth sampling rather than an afterthought. The service was friendly and informative. Generous space so no sense of being crammed in and having to share intimate conversations!
Very tasty food, good service and a most enjoyable meal - thanks to all!
The atmosphere and service were very friendly. Everyone was lovely and it's a really nice space. Unlike most restaurants, the waiters never pop by to ask you how things are. Normally that would be a plus, but this is the one time when I wish they would have.
Unfortunately, most of the dishes we got were disappointing. They were well-cooked and nicely presented, but the flavours were all over the place. Lamb sweetbreads with peas francaise and nduja was completely overwhelmed by the chili from the nduja. A main of guinea fowl was oddly flavourless with mushy leeks and a bland "tonkotsu" sauce, which lacked all the unctuous and salty goodness of it's namesake ramen broth.
Worst of all were the desserts. My cheesecake was fluffy but a little light on sweetness and overall flavour, probably meant to be brought to life with it's accompanying sherry vinegar syrup and grilled peach. Sadly, the syrup was face-puckeringly sour. It didn't have the sweet tartness I'd expect from a well balanced sweet vinegar syrup, instead it was just like pure vinegar. The peach had a little underlying sweetness but it seemed to be drenched in the same vinegar.
My partner's rice pudding was texturally interested, with a nice crunchy/smooth dichotomy but just kind of boringly savoury.
It's a real shame - there's obvious ambition on show, but the execution just falls flat on it's face. I really wanted to like Ox Club, but I doubt we'd return.
Great food and service!
Fantastic oysters, succulent lamb, great ambience and brilliant service. Another really good experience at Ox Club.
Lovely atmosphere, food and service. Could not fault it!
Great food helpfull staff will be returning thanks guys
Lovely venue with excellent food and the best dessert we have ever had. Had the set menu - felt it could have included sides which were extra
Delicious! Great food, ambience and service. Definitely recommend and will be visiting again the next time we are in Leeds.
Excellent meal with really good service. Menu is really interesting with some great flavour combinations. Highlight was guinea fowl and starter of ceviche.
