Fantastic meal but took a while to get seated! Otherwise, everything else was great!
Perennial favorite for celebrations! This time it was for a friend’s birthday and coincided with Restaurant week. Everything was fabulous.
Delightful lunch to celebrate our daughter’s swearing in ceremony to the DC Bar. Our waitress was friendly and efficient and the food, ordered from the Restaurant Week menu, was delicious! One of the best values for Restaurant Week that we’ve seen.
Food and service was wonderful! I ordered the restaurant week special so I could try several dishes. Salad, tacos , tamales and Flan was excellent.
The restaurant week offerings were high quality and had lots of variety. Our server was very helpful, and the person making the ceviche asked us how hot we wanted the dish. The courses were served promptly, but we did not feel rushed. We look forward to returning to Oyamel.
I love Oyamel. Great location, great food for a reasonable price by DC standards and a really cool vibe. I've always had a good time there. One minor complaint: We had to wait a pretty long time for a server to come to the table. But it was great after that and the service was good. We still tipped her well. Love this place. One of my favorites in DC.
Yummy, as always. Tables are a bit too close together and one should not go here for a quiet/romantic dinner.
The happy hour was great! 2$$ tacos are the best part- the pork one was yummy!! The guacamole was amazing ( the spiciest one is the one to go with), the rose margarita and classic are my go to.
We went for restaurant week and the food was amazing! The service, however was sub par. We arrived before our reservation and we were seated 15 minutes after the reservation time. I have been to busy restaurants and have been seated right away. Also the host stand staff seemed to be very unorganized and uninformed when I asked them questions. It felt as though they did not care about my questions or did not want to take the time to answer them. Our server often forgot about our table and hardly came to check on us. She also failed to inform us that the guac was going to be extra, aside from the restaurant week menu. Overall, I would come back for the food but I hope the service is better next time.
Went for restaurant week and had issues getting our food out in time.
Delicious food as always. Service was a little slow but it was restaurant week so it was understandable.
The food was excellent! It was restaurant week so we had multiple courses! The service was wonderful.
Oyamel is usually a home run for us, so we usually look forward to our visits each time. I understand they are always super busy, but these past two visits were quite disappointing service wise. Each time we were seated ~15-20 minutes after our confirmed reservation times. In addition, once we were seated it felt like staff were throwing food at us in an attempt to flip our tables quickly. Again, I get y'all are busy, but there has to be a way to pace things out better starting at the beginning of the night.
We went for lunch during restaurant week and were extremely impressed. Creative menu and fresh, amazing Mexican food.
I’ve been here many times and always enjoy it! Great food, cocktails and service. Came for lunch this time and did the restaurant week lunch plus some extras and it was great! My only complaint was how fast it seemed they were trying to get people out. We had not even started our dessert yet and we were brought the check without asking. Additionally, they seemed eager to take plates even when we were not done. Never had that happen before here aside from that it was another great experience at Oyamel!
Love the vibe and pretty decor. Upbeat atmosphere, great place to grab small bites and margs with friends or a fun date night.
very loud and crowded restaurant but amazing food and lovely interior decorating.
The food at oyamel is amazing. We had 5 courses and every single course impressed me.
The mole was out of this world. Just amazing!
We had great service, food and experience! Looking forward to going back
Service at Oyamel is always outstanding. Despite having a reservation at 7:45, Oyamel didn’t haven’t a table ready until after 8. To compensate, the service gave us free guacamole and made sure to always check on my table for water and additional food/drinks. Definitely will come back!
We were seated and 20 mins went by without being served water. We were surrounded by waitstaff and no one even looked our way to ask if we were being helped - despite our bare table. My friend had to go serve himself water. And I had to go ask the hostess to please find a/our server. A total “not my job” attitude from the hostess stand to the waitstaff. The service was abominable.
If you don’t have your order ready exactly when the server requests it, expect to wait
We have been to several of Jose Andres' restaurants and we loved each of them but Oyamel won our hearts. The flavors of all the dishes were different and amazing! The soup was served with avocado and tasted divine! The Oyamel Margarita arrived with a salty foam instead of the usual salt rim... The ceviche con citricos was tacitly tart-sour enough to be de-li-cious. It was bass in an habanero-pineapple base....amazing! The Pescadilla Sinaloa arrived as a kind of an empanada and it tasted totally different to the previous dishes. That's what amazed us: the uniqueness of each dish! And to top the lunch in Jose Andres' style, came the Pastel Tres leches with these delicious pineapple gelatin cubes served with a scoop of caramel ice cream and milk espuma!! Outstanding! Hats off!!
The food was great, service was ok, great value, noisy space but livable.
We went for Restaurant Week and the menu was amazing. Brussel Sprouts are delicious and the cake for dessert with the caramel ice cream...Yum! Highly recommend this restaurant and experience!
Great authentic Mexican food; not the Americanized version or TexMex. Big fan of Jose Andres!
the food and service were great, but there are a couple of things that I believe you can improve.
1. It took too long between courses.
For my taste, Oyamel is one of the best restaurants in DC. If you’re considering passing it over because you’ve had plenty of “Mexican food”, reconsider — this is almost certainly different than anything you’ve had before. Because of the small plate format, it’s a great place to explore the menu. The service is outstanding. The ambiance is also great, but it frequently borders on too loud, particularly on the north side (left side facing the restaurant from the outside). If you’re dining with people who are sensitive to loud noise, request a table in the back room — it’s worth a little extra wait.
Restaurant week lunch. Food was very tasty and the service was outstanding. Definitely worth visiting.
Completely satisfied. Restaurant week menu was great.
Went during restaurant week, and it was amazing! Ceviche con citricos and cochinita pibil were fabulous!
Had lunch during restaurant week. Nice selection of choices on the menu and each course was delicious. Service was good too.
Must get the beef short ribs! Absolutely fall-off-the-bone tender delicious goodness.
Great service and better food. Drinks are strong!
A great dinner to begin an evening downtown with family and friends.
Visited for the first time this weekend. Found a high top table, which are first come first serve. Food and service were both great. The $63 for the pitcher of margaritas seemed high, but they were not your average drink and we got 6 out of the pitcher.
Incredible food!! Really loved the ceviches! They were the best I’ve ever had. Very fresh fish and well balanced. Also, the hot chocolate was the best I’ve ever had. The mole potatoes so good and the stuffed poblano amazing! Salt foam margaritas are a must
We decided to go to Oyamel for my brothers birthday since he had never been. It will be my 10th time going. I have loved Oyamel since it first opened. I do wish they would add more items to their menu, specifically more authentic Mexican sides and more taco options. The service is always wonderful here.
Great every time
