Experience was great! Service was phenomenal! We were here for a birthday and it was a great time!! Thank you!
They had a very nice menu for restaurant week with a wide variety of tasty choices.
Dope portions, very shareable. Flavorful and exquisite
Our group of regulars with out of town guests really enjoyed the Restaurant Week menu featuring our beloved favorites and some new dishes. The prix fixe menu offered an outstanding value. Noise level was higher than we are used to during regular visits. There was an energy in the air and large crowd. So happy to return to popular Oyamel and find consistent quality, favorite fresh ingredients, and of course, exceptional margaritas.
Table was in a very poor location, at the back of the restaurant, cramped, under the air conditioning and with a broken bench for my son and I. This took away from the experience and quality of food. From all the restaurants I had been recommended by a colleague, this one was the most disappointing.
The server was so impolite that we left the restaurant after the first glass of water. Oyamel you should seriously revisit your service attitude. Bottom line we enjoyed a nice dear at China chilcano the Peruvian place just in front
I think this time the restaurant week menu has lower quality.
Went here last week for the first time and had to go back and take my boyfriend! Service and food were both excellent! Love this place - and very full!!!
Went for a Saturday lunch during DC restaurant week and all four in the party had the special menu (although different items from each of the 4 courses for $22.00 per person). Not a bad item was had and with the lava stone-served homemade guacamole as a starter it was a delicious meal. Busy, but the service was top-notch and the vibe was lovely, too.
Delicious food, great atmosphere, I love the drinks, Serrano margarita and a couple of mezcal flights - Luis at the bar was great, friendly and enthusiastic 👌🏽🌟
Excellent as always
The food was amazing!!
Our server Oscar was fantastic. It was our first visit with a picky son. Oscar guided us to good choices for him and all of us.
The idea of it is great and I love Mexican food and all things Jose Andres. But oh my goodness, just about everything was heavily over-salted and therefore inedible. Plus horrible for your heart.
Oyamel was great! We went for Restaurant Week but are already looking forward to coming back.
My husband and I had a bad experience yesterday with the service. I ordered chicken milanesa with two sauces - not on the menu, but described by the waitress. My milanesa arrived encased in a large subway-style roll. I hadn’t expected this, and asked the waitress if she would have the bread removed, and put the sauces on top of the milanesa (instead of inside the bread). She said she would, and took the plate away. We waited such a long time for the milanesa to be returned, that I told my husband to go ahead and start his meal, which was getting cold. About 15 minutes went by, my husband finished his meal, and still no milanesa. I asked for our waitress, and she told us the order had to be re-submitted and remade because they don’t have a microwave (?). More time passed, and I asked to speak to the manager, who then showed up with the order. I told him by now my husband had already finished his meal, and we were going to leave. I said if the waitress had told us the situation before she took my dish back to the kitchen, I would have removed the bread myself, and scraped off the sauces. Alternatively, she could have removed my husband’s meal to put it in the oven to warm while mine was being prepared. When told this, the manager was very defensive about their policies of only serving meals straight from the range (not microwaving them), that the milanesa is always served as a sandwich, that the chef had personally supervised this, and so on. We said he was being defensive, and not understanding our situation of being in the dark about the long wait for the return of my meal, so we asked for the bill for my husband’s meal and left. The manager said we didn’t need to pay, and he apologized for the “misunderstanding,” which is a non-apology.
Overpriced food, normal taste/quality. Nothing special to justify the high price, small portions.
So loud unable to have simple conversation at our table. Unfortunately our waiter was pushy, condescending & mislead us into purchasing a $63/pitcher of lukewarm margaritas (he said we'd save money, Haha! Took forever to get food. Brussel sprouts were great & the seafood plates were quite tasty but the meat dishes were rather flavorless. Desserts were pretty to look at but too many competing flavors. Very disappointing evening...
The food was fantastic, and their Restaurant Week menu was excellent. And the service was wonderful. But my God, was it noisy! It must have been near jet takeoff decibel levels. We were seated on the first floor, right side. Too close to the bar, but I think they need some serious sound-proofiing.
We went for restaurant week and although the portions were a bit smaller there were still 4 courses and we left completely stuffed! The food was amazing, they knock the ceviche out of the park and their salt foam margaritas and mojitos are so much fun! Our server took great care of us, the only thing I could say negative was that the food was spaced out weirdly in that it took 30 minutes in between one course but the last two were back-to-back (however this is probably due to it being so packed that night). Definitely will be going back!
Oyamel has an interesting variety of tasty food. In general, we enjoyed it. The pork taco had pieces of gristle in it which we then could not eat. Our waiter told us it was a "stew" but that is not how it should taste. The noise level was almost unbearable. We could hardly even talk,so it is not a relaxing atmosphere which is ok if you don't mind that.
I went for Restaurant Week. It was busy and lively, but not loud, thankfully! The ambiance was pretty, nicely decorated and modern. The food was excellent. Pay attention for chillis in your food if you don't like heat! My server was extremely nice and helpful, gave a recommendation for drinks and explained dessert options based on my food restrictions. She even went down to the kitchen to confirm which of the desserts could be accommodated, plus which main dishes should also be excluded if it was a non-obvious one. I normally don't like tres leches, but their version of it was absolutely fantastic and fun! I would definitely go back again with more people, especially for that awesome looking guacamole (made fresh to order)! Thanks for a great evening!
Really enjoyed this experience. Just wish the food was a little hotter temperature wise. Everything was delicious. Great value for restaurant week. Great service as well.
Wonderful food, some new to the menu, made for a great lunch!
Excellent food and ambiance. We went twice to Oyamel while vacationing in DC. The menu is well balanced, good flavors and value for money.
I hate to say, but I was so disappointed with the food here. I have heard wonderful things and love his other restaurants, but I think the flavors of Oyamel are simply not for me; they seem exaggerated. I went for restaurant week, and can say that it's a very good value, and the staff was friendly. There are plenty of selection options and you will get full! My favorite part, believe it, were the chips and salsa! Also, consider it is extremely loud if busy, and having a conversation involves speaking very loudly and repeating "WHAAAT?".
We always enjoy our dinners at Oyamel and any of Jose Andres' restaurants in the DC area. Because we have a family member with Celiac, we are eternally grateful for the detailed information Oyamel and other Andres restaurants provide on food content for those with allergies. Our server this particular night was very attentive and informative. Even thought of how a separate bowl of salsa would be important since the house-made tortilla chips are fried in same fryer with gluten items and the group dipping in central salsa bowl would be an issue. Until you have to eat around an allergy, you don't know what a blessing it is to have a restaurant and it's staff make eating out easier. So thank you! Also, the food is just yummy and beautiful to look at too. Only complain about Oyamel is how loud it gets ... we struggled a bit to understand and hear each other the entire meal. (That get tiring pretty fast!) Still we will return, and recommend it to anyone looking for adventurous, delicious Mexican-inspired food in DC.
The lighting levels are too low for a lunch venue.
The food was really good and not expensive.
But the service was “to be improved”.
In a funny series of events, I actually ended up eating at Oyamel both Friday and Saturday night. I had different servers, but the service was lacking both nights. The food was great, but we had to chase down more chips for the guac and ceviche both nights. The first time I visited Oyamel the service was fantastic, but I was disappointed this past weekend.
This was our first visit to Oyamel. The restaurant was very lively so the noise level was high. It was a little difficult to chat with my dining companions. We had a booth seat and the seating was very low to the ground. Margaritas were good, guacamole was okay and everyone liked their dishes except the chicken tamale. The best part of the experience was our server. She was kind and attentive.
This is a spirited place with lively people within a lively setting. We had reservations for 5:00 on a Friday. Lots of young people at the bar for happy hour. Very loud in the bar area. We had a table in the back dining room which was not as loud. We ordered pomegranate margaritas and guacamole to start. We did not really like the margaritas which had a salt foam on top. The guacamole was very good. I had the shrimp (camarones) which were delicious, great combination of flavors. My son had the meatballs (albondigas) which he enjoyed. We each had a Conchinita pork taco which was good but nothing really special. My son had a beer at the end of the meal. Total was $88 plus tip. For what we had, it seemed a lot to spend. I would try this place again but make different drink and food choices.
Went here with my team from work and we all brought our significant others. We were a big table but they handled everything flawlessly!
Fabulous in every way! 100% would recommend. Very loud, partly due to popularity and crowd, and also design of interior.
Awesome food and awesome atmosphere. Do not skip on the guacamole!
Oyamel was excellent!!! Food, ambiance, service, everything!
The food is delicious, the service is attentive, and the atmosphere is fun!
