I think there could be more vegetarian options on the brunch menu, but we had a great time. Fast service & hot food.
Went for dinner this evening for a mother – daughter date with our 25 year old. Pamplona is located two minutes away from Ambar, another popular “small plates” restaurant. Amber has twice as many tapas to choose from.
REALLY GOOD: chickpea dip with focaccia bread and roasted cauliflower with zaatar spice. But how can we return to a restaurant for just to tapas?
GOOD: Pan Con Tomate (good tomato flavor salsa and nice focaccia bread) & tiny Cheese Croquettes.
OK: Rice Croquettes, Gambas al Ajillo, Blistered Shishito Peppers, Patatas Bravas, & Baby Kale Salad.
NOT GOOD: Octopus & their version of Spanish Tortilla. It is hard to believe they have not mastered this one in a Spanish restaurant! But it had no flavor outside of the eggs, except for the garlic, which usually is not even in a Spanish tortilla.
DESSERT: trace leches was a better than average version and not too sweet.
So we had only tried 4 tapas that were either “really good” or “good” for a dinner that ended up costing us $110 with no drinks!
Furthermore, The seats are not comfortable for me. Nor did the gentleman at the entrance try to accommodate the request in my profile for padded seats, which I explained was for a spinal problem. He refused to give us a vacant padded booth at 7:45 that sat vacant all evening.
Acoustics are bad, & it was loud w/ few ppl there.
2 redeeming factors of the evening: Our waiter, “Ever”, was terrific. And I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with my wonderful daughter!
That made up for a while it was otherwise bland food, that we felt was inconsistent and largely lacking in seasoning.
We were greeted pleasantly and seated immediately (with our reservation). Our server was fantastic! Recommended great small plates to precede our two paella plates (squid ink and duck). Everything was delicious! And while lively, the noise level was low enough to allow pleasant conversation among the four of us. Perfect evening! Thanks!
We have eaten dinner at La Paloma several times but the service this time was lacking. Best to attribute to the COVID 19 shortage of food service people. Food is always great though, so don't let this lack of service on this particular Saturday stop you from going.
We did the all you can eat small plates and it was delicious! Loved this deal.
Food was ok at best! Restaurant inside was loud! Service was fine. Overall food was very disappointing and everything else was just ok
Nice decor and ambience. Great for social gatherings and a date night. Lively night spot after 10pm with hip hop music with plenty eye candy.
Excellent food and service. We sat in the patio area, which gets a bit overwhelmed by the noise of the neighboring bar.
We had a great time at Pamplona- we had brunch our engagement with our family after having Pamplona as one of our favorite restaurants since our second date almost 4 years ago. It was a very special day! Michael was the best and extremely attentive and helpful! We had a large party of 16 people and everyone was happy with food and service. 10/10 would recommend for anybody!
It was a great place to celebrate my birthday. The manager was very accommodating. I will definitely go back.
All you can eat small plates plus paella...just do it. Food is absolutely fantastic. Bartenders Matt and Amanda are wonderful
Visited for a quick weeknight dinner, good service and food were exactly what we were looking for. Grilled cheese with ham and honey is my new favorite dish, their paella looked and smelled great, next on my list! Didnt know they had daily specials though.
Everything was excellent!
Friendly staff but very average food and below average cocktails.
Great service! Food came out quickly and was delicious
Great time tonight at dinner. Service was attentive and the food was great. Tip try the seafood tower!!!
Disappointed… seafood paella seemed like fried calamari thrown on top. Potato dish under cooked and blah. Summer Salad was delicious. Cilantro Rickey drink had no taste, even when I added more lime juice. Wanted to sit outside on the patio area, but the restaurant that shared the patio was very busy, playing loud music and included hookah smoking. So we sat inside, in a booth. Music was super loud and the restaurant was empty. We asked for the music to be turned down. But couldn’t tell if it was. And two of the four of us, woke during the night with upset stomachs.
It was a great experience! The drinks were delicious and the tapas were classics
It was my daughter’s birthday and we had a wonderful time. Attentive server, delicious food and great value. Will definitely be back!
Outstanding service and support!
Great variety of tapas, lots of vegetarian options. Great service too.
It seemed everything we ordered had a sauce on it, which wasn't always what the dish needed. Sometimes simpler is better. The restaurant was hot and our server was not very friendly or attentive.
One of our buddies loved the DJ.
Celebrated back to school with tapas! For sure try the chicken croquettas and grilled cheese w/ honey. Wow! Summer salad & watermelon sangria are seasonal, so go now!
We had a great evening. veggie paella was quite amazing.
Great night for dancing!
Got the taste of spain package and it was absolutely worth it. The octopus, calamari, gambas, and papas bravas were definitely the highlights. However most things were delicious, and it’s a perfect way to try the whole menu. Our server was attentive, nice, and very very speedy. Overall an amazing experience that I would do again and recommend to friends.
It was awesome! Greet food, enjoyable midweek birthday celebration
Great food, excellent service, awesome ambiance, the "Taste of Spain" is such an amazing deal! All you can eat small plates for $40! Especially loved the Octopus, calamari, mussels, grilled cheese, truffle Mac....I could go on! Excellent dinner!
BLUF: Friendly staff but food is sub par. Price point is reasonable given the location and the portions served; however there’s nothing standing out in terms of offerings. Tried the chicken paella and it was too saucy and some of the rice undercooked.
We will miss Walker!!!!!!
Quality of food was excellent. Environment was upbeat, loud, and furniture was very nice. Great place for a hangout at bar. Expect to pay a lot for not a lot of food. Food portions were small, typical price of expensive European restaurants in US. Don’t come here hungry.
The unlimited small plates are clutch! So amazing!
Great first time at Pamplona! Restaurant Week allowed us to get a good variety of items from the menu- nothing disappointed! Would highly recommend
Great brunch offering for a great value with great service. The only knock is we got disposable plastic cups for our drinks, which was weird and awkward. Asked the wait staff why and it seems to be a decision tied to their late night operation (people taking glassware outside). But, what does that have to do with families, friends and couples doing a nice brunch on Sunday. Cups were an eyesore and diminished the experience. Hope they revisit this!
Nice place to relax and have a bite to eat. The bar staff was friendly and helpful.
Tried the new summer menu the food was great. Service was swift and courteous
Would not recommend for dinner. The chicken paella had an odd flavor. The octopus and patatas bravas were ok. The Serrano ham was served with some kind of ice cream on top. Much better tapas options in DC - with better value for your money.
Passable tapas in a great environment for a casual party.
Great brunch and fast service!
