Parker’s Tavern serves modern British comfort food sourced from field, fen and England’s seas.
The menu changes with the seasons, every dish representing a return to good, unpretentious British cooking, conjured by a spectacular chef.
Really excellent evening at Parker's Tavern, University Arms, Cambridge.A lovely setting, overlooking the green at Parker's Piece. Restaurant very quiet due to the current situation, 18th March 2020.But impressive standard of housekeeping/cleanliness/presentation in all areas, which made a powerful impression, very reassuring at the moment!! Food was superb, and great wines available.Staff were very attentive, they had a bit more time than 'normal' to chat, which was part of what made it a very special evening. I had the suckling pig, which was delicious. My husband had the duck, also very tasty. Some really imaginative dessert choices and ice creams, you can choose your own ice-cream topping from an extensive list. A lovely birthday presentation of chocolates, to end the meal. Superb. Have been before and will definitely be coming again!!
Excellent ambiance, great cocktails, wines, and food, pleasant unintrusive service done with a smile.
Great place for a "significant event" meal. Lots of energy. Sepaarte lounge Bar works well either before or after the meal. Grteat service from our waiter. Meals arrived hot and quickly.
The Dover Sole was beautifully cooked and the service was perfect. we thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
This restaurant was recommended by a friend to whom I am very thankful. Welcome, ambiance, staff, service, food and loos all very good.
We are early evening prior to a show at the Corn Exchange, so the main restaurant wasn’t very busy. There was a private party going on in the library but this did not affect us in any way. The service we received was friendly and efficient. Every question was answered, and any queries checked. They were diligent in dealing with GF issues. Our table had sole with prawns in a lovely buttery sauce, duck and venison pie - all cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Dietary information is on the main menu but not shown on the dessert menu, The burnt cream was fantastic with the most generous crispy crust. Portion sizes were good.
Calm but inspiring decor and the most amazing fragrance everywhere, which is made especially for the hotel and available to purchase from reception.
The loos are stylish and very clean.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Parker’s Tavern to others and will definitely return.
The atmosphere, food and hospitality made it a very special occasion.
Great restaurant in a lovely setting overlooking the green.
The staff were very polite and the food was excellent.
Would be nice to offer brunch menu as well. Roast excellent. Chips excellent. Pricing inconsistent. Seafood roll poor value. Waiter didnt have full knowledge of beer options.
Great dinner at Parker’s tavern. Excellent food and decent portions tempura cauliflower and duck were particularly good. A good buzz about the place and busy Saturday night meant the staff were a bit pushed but service generally good.
We’ll be going again.
Noise alone would rule out any return visit. The food was generally good, though I felt that both the sprouts and the spinach had had too close an encounter with water for my taste, and the former were a little underdone. Our waitress was excellent. My wife and her sister ordered the tempura cauliflower starter. Warned that it was quite spicy they asked for the chilli sauce to be served on the side. The kitchen ignored this request. Without demur, the waitress took the two dishes back, and one of the staff offered to take back the other two starters so that all four could be served later, but simultaneously (an offer we declined). When the cauliflower starters were brought a second time, the sauce was indeed on the side, but there was none of the mint glaze that had been mentioned on the menu and had been on the dishes when first served. My wife and her sister noted that the batter alone was quite spicy, so that the sauce was redundant and the dish might have worked best with the 'raita' and no chilli sauce. The wine list was good and well priced. It did strike me that if the wines had been numbered it would have made life easier for inexperienced staff and diners with poor language skills.
Service very slow but not for want of trying, was very busy and food slow to arrive. Felt a bit too busy.
We were looking forward to our special celebration and mostly enjoyed it. It was spoiled by the lady on restaurant reception who was not friendly at all. She didn’t offer to take our coats, did not smile or welcome us. She was annoyed to take a quick photo for us. She didn’t ask if we enjoyed our meal afterwards. Quite surly in fact.
The waiting staff were lovely but harassed. We had to wait over half an hour to have our main plates cleared. We were over 2 hours for 2 courses even with leaving immediately after our dessert.
The place felt quite frantic probably too big for a celebratory meal for two. The tables were uncomfortably close especially with the long wait in between courses.
Lovely atmosphere perhaps similar in styling to The Ivy. The service was excellent and the food really very good. We went back there for lunch on Sunday and found the roasts to be up there with the best.
Sadly didn't live up to high expectations....
Cocktails lovely but food didn't wow, it was mediocre, edible yes but disappointing especially the tempura cauliflower which was soggy and heavy, not light and crispy like you'd expect from tempura and coverd in sweet chilli dipping sauce- luckily the philestien in me like chilli dipping sauce!
Been there, tried it, won't go again.
Staff particularly pleasant and relaxed
It was our first visit and we had a superb evening. The service was first class, the food was just superb. We loved the art work on the walls. We will return.
Family get together
Very nice food and location. Not huge portions and not cheap but still nice! £66 for 2 courses with water
Fantastic evening with engaging service and excellent food.
Food was very good, better than when we had eaten there before. Good value wine list. Excellent service. It was a busy Saturday night but we didn't feel hurried. We had our coffees in the lounge after vacating our table. I would certainly eat there again. Breakfast is also a good experience there.
This was a lovely visit and our waiter, Duarte, made it extra special.
The food was excellent and the drinks expertly made.
The food was very good and the service was excellent. Attentive without being intrusive. We will be back !!
First time to Parkers Tavern, it won't be the last! Stunning food with service to match
It was my third visit here but the first time for lunch. As expected, the food did not disappoint. I opted for the lunch menu: the pig's trotters croquettes melted in the mouth, the sea bream was cooked to perfection and served on a bed of very tasty spinach and mushrooms and the rhubarb pavlova was an excellent mix of sweet and sour. I shall go back!
Nice place for a lunch. We're going again for an evening dinner.
Was really looking forward to celebrating my birthday at Parker's Tavern, and I have to say, the food did not disappoint.
We had Scallops and Fish Cake to start, followed by Venison and Duck (which my husband says was a touch overdone).
However, the service we received was shocking. 20 minutes from sitting down to ordering wine and starters, being told that they had run out of bread, but were baking more, to see said bread coming out of the kitchen and going to other tables, but never ours.
Then after receiving our desserts, being presented with coffees we didn't order, and then being argued with when we pointed this out.
The Maitre'd, William was lovely when we asked to see him and did give us a complementary dessert wine, but overall, for what wasn't a cheap meal, I felt that we were not valued as customers.
Won't be going again.
Buzzy atmosphere, good friendly service. Food is good but not excellent for the price - wine on the expensive side.
Early dinner on a Saturday, lovely atmosphere, great service (Darin & Antoine) and great food.
We love Parker’s - always great service and atmosphere .Afternoon tea menu a little confusing - especially the pricing . Marmalade with scones ! However delicious should be for breakfast . Staff very happy to serve traditional jam though .
Well located in Cambridge, the restaurant was light and airy with a good atmosphere. All the staff were attentive without being constantly in your face; they served the food quickly, were happy to elaborate on menu options, and were pleasant and cheerful. The food was good. Everyone enjoyed their meal - a birthday lunch on a Saturday - (whether meat eaters or vegetarians) and found the food attractive, tasty, and with Goldilocks portions (just right!). The bar staff know how to make a fabulous Martini. If you voted Leave, don't bother coming until January 2021, as most of the lovely, attentive, pleasant staff currently employed there were Europeans of one kind or another. Some of us will miss them very much when they are gone.
Great food, wonderful service and some hidden delights and we’ll definitely be back! I do think the 12.5% service charge is too much though and ended up being the only negative of a fantastic evening.
The food was delicious as always but service not as attentive as usual. I saw our main courses had been brought out and left on a dresser, the kitchen porter? then went back in to the kitchen. Four waiting staff walked past them without interest until I caught the eye of one. Also a waitress smelt strongly of cigarette smoke.
The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. We loved it!
Lovely venue, good food and lunchtime menu, the service was very attentive initially, drinks are quite expensive.
Nice enough but in comparison to other cambridge restaurants, I believe the quality of food to price ratio was a bit steep. I have had just as good food for cheaper at other locations in the Cambridge city centre. Overall, the food was nice so no complaints.
We enjoyed every aspect of our lunch, will definately revisit.
The service was a little slow and impersonal, on this visit. The food was good though.
Characterful dining room , attentive service ( with humour ) , always welcome . Interesting menu , beware the cauliflower starter , very spicy . I particularly enjoyed the pheasant salad , beautifully balanced and the apple mousse for dessert ( more than a touch of Heston we think . Overall a good evening was had by all . Our thanks to all concerned .
The beef in a Sunday roast was the best I gaff had in a long time abc all guests at my table thought the same. Only Criticism I would have is the type of plate or more metal wok we had to eat main course out of. Roast potatoes were not as good as my own and poss could have done with 1 more. But overall very good and will def go back.
Many new staff who were inexperienced & therefore standard not as good as it usually is.
