Parker’s Tavern serves modern British comfort food sourced from field, fen and England’s seas.
The menu changes with the seasons, every dish representing a return to good, unpretentious British cooking, conjured by a spectacular chef.
It was exceptional. The service: the quality of food, the complimentary bread was incredible. We had the Sunday roast. Cannot wait to go back!
Bar and library are good for a drink
Restaurant main courses are v patchy. Menu is a bit incoherent. All things to all people but nothing knockout.
A very warm welcome and a lovely atmosphere, but despite the service being good, it was exceptionally slow. We had been there almost an hour before our starters we served.
Really great food backed up by intelligent and efficient service
I had a pleasant dinner at Parker's Tavern with my friends. The service was great, the general ambiance was good, not too elegant nor too casual. Food was delicious and not over-priced (we especially liked their dessert menus). Tax and service charge was a bit on the expensive side though (20%).
I would recommend but not for breakfast. Service was quite slow and difficult to secure. Food was distinctly average. I hadn't realised we would just be part of the hotel breakfast buffet, so nothing seemed made fresh. It was just picked off the buffet line. I won't return for breakfast.
Spectacular renovation of beautiful old landmark building. Great bar and dining area. Buzzy, energetic atmosphere and friendly, informal service. Fairly priced menu and it is possible to dine inexpensively or push the boat out depending on your wallet or mood. So that's all great. However, food was a bit of a disappoint. Tempura courgettes tasted like something form a cheap Chinese and crab did not taste fresh. We did complain about the crab to which the response seemed to be "It's a British crab and they are not as tasty as Mediterranean crabs." Slightly odd. Having said that my partner's sole was excellent, it's a great venue and I would go again. I'd just be careful about what I ordered.
We were really looking forward to this but were disappointed. The service was enthusiastic and attentive but seemed to be lacking in training, with lots of reaching across the table, soup almost dropped onto the table and spilled coffee. The tempura veg was just one veg, which missed a trick, and the main courses probably equivalent to pub food, but with a premium. The location deserves better.
Welcoming and very attentive staff. Courses arrived with little delay. Food very good although mains could have had better green vegetables. Parker's Pale Ale an excellent accompaniment to the meal. Overall a very good dining experience.
Food was sublime. However, disappointed by the ambience and popcorn scattered over the floor. Eventually it was brushed up
Our 3rd visit but overall, we were dissapointed in that the food was average & generally service was a bit all over the place which hasnt been the case on previous visits. Its a lovely venue but at the end of the day when paying these sort of prices you expect the food to be of a higher standard. We will give it another chance hoping this visit was a blip
The staff are excellent food is great and the room is wonderful
Good British good, good ambiance and outstanding service. Very much fine dining- will be back
It fits the gap between Midsummer and the other Cambridge restaurants. The service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The menu is unpretentious but everything beautifully cooked - a "blue" steak really was "blue" and tender.
Packed full (on a Tuesday evening) so a bit noisier than we (oldsters) like but that didn't detract from our enjoyment.
The food was delicious but the restaurant is so big and crowded that the noise levels at dinner are unbearable. Conversation is impossible without shouting and this makes the experience exhausting.
Since you ask, I was particularly disappointed by the bar: there was a very limited selection of very expensive drinks, especially beer, and I was charged £3 For service even though my second order was forgotten about. Food was nothing special and seating rather crowded.
Underwhelming experience. The staff lacked experience and energy/interest which really spoilt the evening. I think the management needs to really sharpen up its act to get the vibe right. The food was fine but not outstanding and portions were small. (Found myself eating nuts on the way home despite having a 3 course meal (and I'm not greedy). Disappointing for a potentially great venue.
Food is amazing. But service is key to the experience. And the service at parker's is absolutely atrocious
. The staff do not seem to realise that the tables are occupied by people known as "customers" who need to be given something called "the minimum of attention". Terrible experience. i am sorry for the chef, whose great food is let down by such awful staff serving at the restaurant - I would say that zombies have a better idea of paying attention than these "waiters" (if you can call them such). definitely TO BE AVOIDED. Yours, Osman Mardin
Excellent service. The food was absolutely delicious.
Enjoyable British food, served in an attractive dining room. Good value house wine.
Arrived late, but staff were very helpful and nice about it. Service was excellent and we didn't feel rushed despite arriving late. Looking forward to our next visit.
We had an excellent lunch and can't wait to go again next Sunday!
Beautiful place and nice service. Had to send one meal back and the replacement wasn’t that great. Maybe a bit pricey for what it is, but still very enjoyable as a place to go.
The occasion was dinner after my daughter’s graduation. One of my daughters is vegetarian and she enjoyed the truffle risotto. The John Dory special was good and the chicken and leek pies went down a treat.
The food was outstanding - the staff delightful - we had a great time!
Very friendly with excellent modern takes on classic dishes. Great flavours and exceptional staff. A great addition to the Cambridge dining scene and I look forward to returning
Brilliant food - we would come back just for the truffled duck egg alone, which is unbelievably good. The whole lot was delicious. Not cheap (as expected, this is Cambridge...) but equally no more expensive than other good Cambridge restaurants either, and portion sizes - especially of starters - were good.
Enjoyed the service, friendly throughout and well-paced. Even brought us out a "happy anniversary" treat, which was amazing!
Some reviews say it is noisy - whilst it isn't exactly a quiet room, we didn't find this to be any issue. Perhaps best to sit nearer the sides as we did.
Great venue, wonderful food, great value for money.
Excellent food. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Starters a little on the pricey side but no complaints otherwise. Friendly, attentive staff.
This was our second visit. We enjoyed the first but this time the food was terrible. Every dish ordered by the table was too salty. We asked who the chef was for the night but didn’t get a clear answer but seemed the principal chef was not working that night. They gave a discount but that didn’t compensate for a very disappointing experience.
It's a 5 star restaurant. Food, service, ambiance everything was perfect. Recommended for special events like wedding anniversary.
Great food, Great service. We had a lovely time and the Gin and tonics were supurb.
We were made to feel welcome from the off, and nothing was too much trouble. Food, wine, service, and atmosphere were wonderful. Looking forwar to spending some time in the bar area next time too as it looked really comfortable and inviting.
Many thanks for a wonderful evening.
Meal spoiled by drinks arriving significantly after starters. Menu not that clever. Scallops had no roe. Lamb had no pinkness. Tiniest quantity of butter with bread. Waiter didn't ask why we asked for the voluntary service charge to be removed from the bill.
Our lunch was marred by poor service. Our first wine was late arriving despite a reminder. We were grateful for the free glass of wine which was supplied as compensation. Thank you. Unfortunately, it happened again with the dessert, when a sweet wine failed to appear until after the dessert had been served. Also, the main course choices were incorrectly served. The absence of the sommelier was noticed and possibly may have contributed to these errors.
Great food as ever. We went for Father’s Day and the service was poor which really did spoil the evening. To be fair I explained that I was not happy to pay the service charge included on the bill and they removed it and apologised. We had a great experience the first time so I am sure it will be great again and this was just a blip.
Food was satisfactory. Servers were very accommodating but service a bit slow. Ambiance was pleasant but a bit noisy, and the floor wasn't stable, making dining somewhat uncomfortable.
Lovely restaurant for a special treat. We had a few mishaps including one cold main, crab shell and a confusion around skinny/normal coffees. It seemed like perhaps some staff weren't as well trained as needed for what isn't an inexpensive place to eat. But food otherwise great and ambience/decor lovely.
Great meal. Party of 5 all had starters and mains, and all were either very good or exceptional. In particular, 3 of us had pork, duck and lamb and all said that we could not recall having better. My duck egg on toast with truffle was divine!
food was actually very good , but service very poor. Slow and inattentive
even at end of meal when restaurant nearly empty, nobody keep an eye on us
had to ask for bill, to order, bill etc
service added to bill, no chance to query
Jamie's service actually much better
they need someone to eyeball what is going on in restaurant
puts me off going back
