Old fashioned English characterful restaurant attached to the Marriott Hotel (University Arms) - food was nicely served and very tasty. The bar attached to the restaurant had a nice atmosphere too. Portion sizes were not huge, but that did not bother us. Food is quite wholesome in style. Pleasant staff and very attentive.
Great service and food in a relaxing setting. I had the sole with shrimp and it was perfectly cooked. The lighting is a bit dim for me and the font on the menu is so small that next time I will have to take a magnifying glass and torch!
Friendly well trained staff. Interesting menu, plenty to choose from. The pheasant and mushroom wellington was delicious!
Had heard good reviews from friends and our first time visit was very nice indeed.
A hugely disappointing meal - had to ask twice for the wine to be provided, starter order was incorrect so one starter finally came after everyone else had finished theirs. The incorrect starter was left with us without charge but it was terrible - greasy toast with some stringy meat on top. Main courses poor - one diner had a pie with almost burned pastry - another had 'roast suckling pig' - a couple of rounds of tired meat in a rather glutinous gravy. Mustard was provided in a pot which was dried up on surface. Fish dish of another diner was over-salted. Staff had the cheek to add 12.5% service automatically, which they removed and also refunded cost of one starter when I pointed out poor standard of service and meal. Finally on checking bill realized we had been charged £2.50 for a bottle of tap water. We had very much looked forward to this meal but presumably were the victims of Sunday evening staffing?? No intention of returning to Parker's Tavern.
overall generally very good, food excellent and service outstanding, room a bit of a barn and situated next to a very, very noisy bar...which wasn't just as it was Saturday and a couple of weeks before Christmas. I've used the bar before and it generally like that. The rooms size contributed to amplifying any noise. Beautiful building overall and you cannot praise the service enough, attentive without being in your face.
Parker´s has really good food with outstanding service.
Terrific food and well paced service. Good service for pre drink cocktails. Very busy but noice levels ok and staff extremely attentive.
Very nice place, good range and choice on the menu. While I didn't particularly enjoy my main of Honey and Thyme Roasted Duck, my partner had the Classic Beef Spaghetti Bolognese which was full of flavour and very tasty. I would very much like to try again next time we are in Cambridge.
Very attentive staff great ambience and delicious food.
Love the restaurant and bar area. We all loved our visit for lunch but Please do better coffee.
Nice setting but frankly crap food. Came out suspiciously quickly. Very bland overall and no consistent temperature across each course. Feels like a gastro pub playing at being fancy. Service was friendly but a bit clueless. Save your money and go elsewhere.
A fabulous position and building, but lacked a bit of atmosphere. The food and service was good and the choice extensive, but expensive. Probably a good choice for afternoon tea or a family occasion, not so for a boozy late lunch.
The overall experience was very good. Service was excellent and we had a very pleasant evening. Two of us had the P’T sirloin steak (cooked medium) which unfortunately was a bit tough. Not sure if having it medium rare would have helped and put it down to the quality of the beef. Nice selection of wines and it was good to see Isole e Olena’s Chianti Classico 2015 on the list, they are one of my favourite Chianti Classico producers.
I was very happy with most of our visit but very disappointed with the service.
We had to wait an hour for dessert to be served and at one point there was not a waiter to be seen anywhere in the room.
I was not given an option to refuse the service charge as it was already on the bill.
The waiters who did serve us were very good but there was a distinct lack of them!
i would recommend, based on previous experience, in the hope that this time was a small blip. Service was a bit random, too many people explaining...then things not turning up when ordered, then a starter that was billed as deep fried brie, came luke warm.... 2nd attempt...where was the brie? Not as good as earlier this year, when we had a lovely afternoon lunch. It's a great looking building, make the food great too!
We arrived for Sunday roast at 4pm only to find the only available options were pork or a vegetarian option. I do not eat pork so asked the waiter if another meat from the main menu could be substituted - the only option was crackling pig (which is still pork and therefore not particularly helpful...) We ordered the rib of beef as well as some vegetable sides which arrived cold and were poor value for money (3 stalk of shrivelled up cold broccoli was not really what we expected...) Disappointing, we wouldn't go back.
Ambience was lovely with a very lively, pleasant atmosphere and the service was very attentive. Unfortunately the quality of the food really let the restaurant down. Several of the vegetables had run out, steak arrived covered in a sauce that was not requested, aubergine and mushroom tart was singularly lacking any sign of aubergine and roasted lamb was tasteless. We are unlikely to return
Very disappointed with meal on Saturday night, would not rush back, waited ages for our main meals, the food when it did arrive was luke warm not very hot, pudding was not as described on menu.
On a busy Saturday night we looked forward to our meal at Parker's after reading such positive reviews. Overall we enjoyed the evening, the space was warm with a good ambience and the service, despite being incredibly busy, was faultless. However, although quite good the food fell short on impact. Winter truffle risotto, ordered both as a starter and main, was small and lacked the necessary creaminess or a hit of earthy taste. The fishcake had a crispy coating and was good (but a lot of salmon and not much other fish) but the lemon butter sauce lacked flavour. Tandoori roast quail was a bit cold when it came to the table. Rib of beef (cooked over coals) for two was ordered rare (medium rare was recommended) : it's something other countries have no problem preparing - think American black and blue rib eye steaks (charcoaled dark on the outside rare & bloody inside) or the new wave of Spanish & Italian mature cow steaks prepared similarly over hot coals ... etc. but British kitchens just can't seem to get it right - are the grills not hot enough?! so our steak arrived (sliced which i didn't like because it got cold quickly) just slightly tanned on the outside and raw inside - the flavour was fine but the quantity for 60 quid was pretty poor. A fish main (hake) was nicely prepared and presented but again on the small side. All in all I think the kitchen needs to keep an eye on what's coming out.
Parkers Tavern was great. I thought it might be stuffy but it wasn't at all. The setting is lively and the service is very friendly, welcoming and attentive. The food was great and we felt it was good value. We had the slow cooked duck egg and risotto to start and hake and lamb for main; all was delicious.
The majority of the wine was quite pricey but we did have a lovely bottle of Rioja.
Great location and food although the staff are a bit slow.
Lovely relaxed but attentive atmosphere
Very noisy restaurant. Thanks. Why 50 characters? Very noisy restaurant.
Perfect place for a romantic night out. Very attentive service from the waiters, beautifully cooked food (best roast lamb ive ever had!) And reasonably priced considering the setting/quality.
Overall a lovely place to look at. Very busy and lively atmosphere. Service was ok but the server had too big a station to manage so was not as good as it should be. The food could have been good if it was hotter. We both had turkey. The sauce was very good. The dessert also came out cold but we sent it back and it was replaced straight away. The manager did rectify our complaints with a discount off the food which was fair. Overall we did prefer the Ivy in cambridge for food quality and service
Beautiful bar and restaurant. Very good menu which catered for my vegan goddaughter. Service was good and would recommend having coffee in the library afterwards. A very pleasant experience
The food was exceptional, however I felt a little let down by the desert (Burnt Cambridge Cream), I've tasted better and the presentation could have been improved. However it's hard to impress me when it comes to deserts. I would say it was the only thing that let down the experience. Wine amazing, starter fantastic, main course outstanding.
Compliments to the chef and the staff, especially to the young gentleman who put us at ease. Nice to get a smile and a small amount of humour when talking to staff. Well done Parker's Tavern!
Amazing food and experience, staff couldn’t have been more attentive. Would highly recommend
Excellent service. Polite and discreet. The food was excellent quality and delicious.
Really good food/service/atmosphere. Had to wait for our table but it didn’t really spoil anything. Would definitely return.
Great service and ambiance. A bit pricey but worth it. The food and wine were great.
Nice surroundings and friendly staff but the food quality does not quite justify the prices. The risotto was great, the steak not so much.
Lovely lunch, in a great setting with great service. Very special touch to end a Birthday lunch. Will def be returning. Thank you
As usual, the food quality, service and beautiful surroundings left us feeling warm and fuzzy after a wonderful lunch.
Fabulous food, great service, stairs could do with a clean!
Not even a fire drill could diminish our enjoyment of the evening. The second best restaurant in Cambridge and a mile away the rest.
After reading some less than glowing reviews this week, we went feeling slightly ambivalent. However, glad to say we were more than pleased. Food was excellent; truffled duck egg, steak and a lovely pink venison were the highlights. Only minor bugbear was the dauphinoisse were replaced by chips without being informed. Service was pleasant. Lovely room to sit in, lacked atmosphere due to it being very quiet for a Lunch. Would return. Recommended.
Beautiful ambiance, impeccable service and delicious food. We will definitely be back very soon.
Had Sunday lunch which was also our first visit to the restaurant. Can only say that from the moment we entered the hotel we were looked after by courteous and welcoming staff. Pre drinks in the bar was relaxing and a great atmosphere. Can only compliment the kitchen for the delicious roast beef and pork dishes and our waiter was very professional. We hope to return again.
