Good food and ambiance but the service was VERY slow. It took an hour for our food to arrive after we got there and ordered. . It was necessarily a late lunch so we were already hungry . The place was less than a quarter full by then so I was surprised why it took so long. To be clear the issue was with the kitchen - the servers were very attentive and kept apologizing .

Wonderful two course set lunch. Warm welcome with birthday drink and superb service throughout. Feel thoroughly spoilt and enjoyed the cashew curry and rice pudding which were well presented and delicious.

Lovely food. Great service. Wasn’t very busy and we didn’t feel like we were being rushed or encouraged to leave. Would recommend.

The Tavern is located inside the (very nice) University Arms hotel. We had dinner there and then a quick lunch the next day. Dinner was good (but please Chef - a Schnitzel can be called as such only if beaten flat, what we received was a very nicely seasoned breaded chop). Next day was Caesar's Salad, which promised extra grilled chicken but instead featured lukewarm sliced poached chicken, and with very little dressing on top. In both cases the weakest link was the service - at dinner, asking for a dessert with coffees on the side resulted in coffees coming when the dessert was already finished, and politely pointing this out resulted in the waitress saying the bar and kitchen orders are not connected (which to the customer reads as "we have logistics issues we are not going to do anything about"). The next day a different waiter had trouble understanding our order, and we had to point at the menu. He kept using his biro pen marking the menus (!) in the process and, unfortunately, also the sleeve of my white shirt (!!) Dinner was enjoyable seemed to us good value, but on the other hand lunch salads next day were insipid and overpriced. The service level seems to be suffering from staff not being trained properly, which unfortunately lets down the overall experience.

Delightful ambience with live music. Very attentive waiting staff. Very interesting menu and the food didn’t disappoint. The restaurant was very busy so the delivery of food was a bit slow. All together a lovely evening.

We had tried to book a room but after several attempts to get through to someone on the phone we gave up and just settled for a dinner. Drinks were very slow to arrive and we had to chase the waiters more than once. The cocktail arrived after we were shown to the table and we had to wait well into our meal for wine as it had not been chilled. The food was very ordinary and we felt it was overpriced. The ambience was pleasant and refined and we had a good seat in the window but it was certainly not good value for money.

Delicious food, fairly priced for an upmarket place and great cocktails. On quite a busy Saturday the service was good. Really enjoyed my visit.
