Absolutely fantastic restaurant. So glad we decided to come here. It was extremely difficult to choose what we wanted (we're not at all fussy), the lovely manager/head waitress helped us choose our wine with a few tastings, the portions left you sated but not overly stuffed and they were delicious! There was plenty of room for dessert - thank goodness. I got to effectively design my own desert as well. We were extremely well looked after the entire time, despite being strangers. Would 100% recommend. We even stayed after for a few cocktails and a chat with our hosts because they were so wonderful. Will try to fit in another booking before we leave in less than 2 days.
Superb food and service. We had the fishcakes for the main course and they were excellent. Tried the Three Choirs British white wine which was a light refreshing wine.
Always welcoming-lovely warm atmosphere with sophisticated cocktails- very comfortable- excellent service.
We had a fantastic time. The food was great apart from the brown bread sandwiches they were a little bit dry but everything else was absolutely delicious. The staff were amazing and we had a great celebration of the end of year after exams
Thank you all at the parsonage grill
On arrival at this beautiful building we had high hopes. We were asked to wait at the bar while they prepared our table, but then had to flag down someone to remind them we were there. The barman did say they were short-staffed which isn't a reason to ignore your customers. The menu was more like a standard pub menu and that's how the food tasted. There was nothing special, no 'wow factor'. The cod was watery, the steak was fatty and sided with chips and iceberg lettuce, again nothing special. The tables are far too close, so far from the romantic meal we were after, we had to put up with the elderly gentleman at the table next to us trying to give his outdated and ill-informed opinions to anyone who would listen. Service was polite if dis-interested, the waitress had no clue about the menu and was unable to engage with the customers about the food. This restaurant needs updating, not the place but the attitudes towards diners. It's an expensive place in a beautiful building, it's a pity that the layout, the service and the food don't live up to the setting.
Update: I’ve received a phone call from the restaurant which was unexpected and a pleasant surprise. We will be returning in the future at which time we hope to have a much better experience.
Dear MaddieM, Thank you for your feedback, it was lovely to be able to talk to you. We shall learn from this and we do look forward to welcoming you back soon. Apologies once again that we let you down on this occasion. Gemma - senior restaurant manager
A really nice restaurant with good food and a nice menu. The ambience is excellent. The service is excellent. So go.
Thank you JohnB for your high praise we hope you will become a Parsonage regular guest. See you soon
Perfect place to entertain our French friends who we hadn't seen for years! First class service and lovely surroundings.
Had a lovely high tea and even found a parking spot outside we were allowed to use.
The Sunday Roast was, as previously found, faultless. I was lucky with parking the car at the hotel but wish some more widely reliable solution , convenient for the elderly could be found. Couldn't the hotel rent some space off the neighbouring Metallurgy Department ?
A family lunch, excellent service and attention, menu choice good, food well cooked and flavoursome. A little expensive when adding vegetable side dishes.
Charming building with exquisite art collections on the interior walls. Food was superb, as was the service. Exactly what one has come to expect for the Old Parsonage. It didn't disappoint!
It's my frist time to try afternoon tea and I really really enjoyed it. The whole dessert and tea are amazing as well as the waiter and waiteress are so nice and friendly. Even the price is so reasonable compared to another places. Everything is fantastic. The most thing that I love is the ambience in the hotel, especially the terrace(outside) that I stayed is so nice to enjoy the sunshine and breeze provided the weather is perfect. haha I highly recommend this place and I'd like to visit again!! Thank you for everything
Had a wonderful afternoon tea celebrating our anniversary with friends. The friendly staff made it very special. Jade tips tea was delicious with a very delicate flavour. Sandwiches were light with a nice range of classic fillings. The strawberry jam was a hit with everyone. The scones were enormous and perhaps a bit heavy for us. The wide selection of perfectly made cakes beat us but we took some away to enjoy later.
Great experience and we visit again when next in Oxford.
Had a lovely day celebrating my brothers birthday, food, service brilliant and also they gave the birthday boy a surprise treat with a candle on it (it was pink but they had run out of blue) but all the same it was a fantastic thought and was truly grateful and tasted fabulous.
It was the most delightful afternoon. Endless cups of tea and coffee, and gorgeous delicate sandwiches. I mentioned on the booking it was my mother’s birthday and we were given 3 additional cakes with a candle on it which was the most thoughtful touch. The staff were absolutely lovely, the location was beautiful and the setting was perfect. We will be coming back again soon- it was the most fantastic experience and I would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone visiting Oxford.
went for a friend's 50th. top class. Service a bit slow. lovely staff. wouldn't hesitate to return. food was fantastic.
We came with friends who had never been to Oxford before - we know Oxford well, but had never been to the Parsonage Grill. We had heard that it was very good, but actually were disappointed. The menu seemed limited and uninspiring - the food was perfectly fine (fishcakes), but very expensive for what it was. Portion size was small. Our waitress was good, but we were sorry that there was no personal touch from the management as we left - nobody, apart from our waitress, asked us whether we had enjoyed our meal. We had booked the Parsonage for a special occasion, and felt rather let down. The Quod, which we had visited the night before, proved to be much the better of the two restaurants. We will certainly go there again, though not to the Parsonage.
We were five people for lunch. We found an appealing menu, well-prepared dishes, perfect service (attentive but never invasive), and a nice quiet table (we ate inside on a sunny day when other customers opted to eat al fresco). In the past this restaurant has seemed a bit noisy when full, but this wasn't the case today. Definitely a favourite when in Oxford.
Great food, beautiful ambience and very helpful staff
Celebration cream tea was excellent (the champagne was incredibly good) and the savoury tea was even better, especially the blue cheese scones and the black pudding sausage roll. Service was great and I would definitely go again.
Pretty place, great attentive service (waiter brought ‘special’ milkshakes for our children and engaged with them), great afternoon tea.... we have already recommended to my family and are booking to return.
Very much enjoyed a leisurely lunch at The Parsonage Grill. The meal was very good, but rather overpriced. Will definitely go again, but not regularly as too expensive.
A pleasant atmosphere, bit too club-like and dark with lots of portraits to feel cosy. Food was good but not memorable or outstanding. Wouldn't rush back there.
Overall a very good experience. A little disappointed in the steak and overall presentation of the plate but plenty of flavour in it. The hand cut chips were the main letdown. The wrong variety of potato was being used and the were not triple cooked which made them literally like skinless potato wedges. Staff were attentive and we were very grateful for the birthday surprise. Overall good
Wonderful restaurant, the food was exceptional and the service was brilliant. The surroundings, including some beautiful paintings, are stunning and the ambience was superb! One of the best ever restaurants we have dined in we will certainly be back!
This used to be a great place. I booked it again because we enjoyed it so much last time. It has been sold and it is not good now. The place is not clean. The food is poor. They will not make any accommodations for dietary needs. There are wonderful places to eat in Oxford. This is no longer one of them.
Delicious food and faultless service in welcoming surroundings
Had a very relaxing time with good food. Pleasant ambience. Not cheap but felt food was well cooked and presented.
A lovely evening and as we had a long way to travel, excellent fast service with very tasty and interesting dishes. We will definitely come again.
Had a really lovely evening celebrating my husbands birthday. The staff were very attentive and he received a selection of deserts with happy birthday written in chocolate on the plate all complimentary. We had drinks at the bar prior to eating our delicious meal. Overall great service and food.
Stuffed saddle of lamb was perfect! Also, our waiter (Solin, sorry can’t remember?) was fantastic. Thank you!
Feels like a restaurant more than a tearoom. Not cosy enough. Plus we had a noisy table near us which was not great. However finger sandwiches were very nice.
We ordered 5 high teas (3 savoury and 2 sweet). The food was really good, though the service was a bit slow and we got the wrong order at the beginning (only 4 portions instead of 5). The mistake was however promptly rectified. The ambience outside was really nice.
The Old Parsonage was a gift for a special occasion and we would recommend it for such an occasion. While it was expensive by our modest standards, it certainly lived up to it reputation for fine food, wine and general ambience. the staff were most attentive and were worth the 12 1/2 % added to the bill for service. We had a delightful lunch during which time flew by. A very safe recommendation!
Fantastic place and great ambiance with food to entice the senses and wine of the god worth a romantic dinner for two.
Service was superb and the food was delicious. I'm glad we chose to eat there on our weekend trip to Oxford and would definitely eat there again.
Lovely scones served with beautiful jam. We were offered a 2nd round of sandwiches were clearly just cut and better than the first. Good choice of cakes, nice unobtrusive service which was very slightly let down by the server smelling of cigarette smoke at one point. Will be back :)
I love the Parsonage for any meal. It is nice to be taken care of by outstanding staff and chef. The food is exceptional. The scallops were lovely and the rhubarb sorbet and tart/crumble were fresh and fabulous. My only complaint. The table chairs in the dining room are too short and not suitable for people living in this century.
It’s a very attractive space, dark blue walls with interesting mix of portraits. But the food was simply not very good. Purple spouted broccoli was not purple and very salty. Other dishes begged for a bit of salt. Carrots were pale and tasteless, potatoes waxy and bland. Sea bream forgettable. Food did not measure up to menu descriptions. Professional staff but they cannot make up for poor and pricey food.
The setting and ambience at the Parsonage is fabulous. The sandwiches and scones were excellent but some of the cakes let them down. The tea was delightful and the staff were attentive and friendly. Overall a great experience.
