We went for our wedding anniversary as we were staying in Oxford. I had booked in advance after reading reviews, I would recommend booking as it gets booked up quickly. The atmosphere was lovely and romantic. Our food was lovely we had the Chateaubriand which was a special and it was lovely, perfectly cooked the way we had asked. The service was good, and because it was our anniversary we got an extra dessert of mini puddings with happy anniversary written in chocolate sauce, well looked after.
Excellent wines and excellent service. This was our first time but definitely won’t be our last.
After numerous previous visits for lunch that we found highly satisfactory, this was disappointing, both as regards service (pleasant but inaccurate) and food (some items were definitely below par, e.g. the trout starter, which we were served by mistake, the goat's cheese starter, and the cheesecake dessert).
One persons coffee arrived rather cooler than we would hope.
My order did not have the bacon that was asked for.
The toast isn't very good because it is cut too thin and made from sourdough.
Minor things, but a very good place to come.
Our welcome was friendly and the service was efficient and knowledgable. The four of us had different dishes and all were perfectly cooked. We liked the choices on the menu too, a bit different. Although the staff were very busy we were not kept waiting too long for our food and they even managed to take a group photo as it was a special occasion for us. We sat talking after the meal but did not feel rushed in any way.
The food was amazing. Service well timed and very friendly, we’ll definitely come back when next time in Oxford
Old world charm, exceptional food and service. restaurant was busy and my only adverse comment is that the tables are too close together.
Dining room is very elegant and full of paintings. Ambiance is lovely, it's also a hotel and it makes you want to stay there. Great cocktails, and lovely service.
Super cool, typical Oxfordian sophisticated atmosphere! Food: exceptional. Outside anbiente.... super
Fantastic experience all round. Staff were amazing and food delicious. It made the celebration of my father in law's 89th birthday very special.
Very well run restaurant, excellent service. Food choice reasonable but vegetables/potatoes not included with main courses which limited their appeal. Otherwise the food was good and well cooked. Good wine choice but a little expensive
Great atmosphere, attentive staff and delicious food
I have reviewed this restaurant before and continue to think highly of it. The best features are: imaginative food with a frequent change of menu, excellent service, quiet, pleasant and characterful ambience.
The chef personally came and discussed our particular wishes and combinations of main and side dishes, the food was 'hand-crafted' it seemed and delicious, the staff were more than helpful and courteous.
Four of us had a delightful Afternoon Tea (have had one previously). Lovely cosy tea on a cold winter's day. Had a good table (in a corner near a window) as it was an early afternoon tea slot but the room filled up completely as afternoon went on so a good buzzy atmosphere A very charming assistant/waiter (?) took our order (foreign gentleman - white shirt) and was very discreetly attentive (please pass on a thank you very much if you can identify him (!)).
Lovely dainty sandwiches with top ups and the two of us who had filter coffee loved it. Two of us had savoury teas which were very tasty (and the high tea looked lovely too). Top ups of coffee and teas appreciated. All in all a lovely afternoon (albeit not cheap) but would all recommend without hesitation.
I came with a party of educational managers and we were looked after with great care. We arrived early which was no problem.
Excellent food all round and the chosen wines were top quality.
Will certainly return.
All round excellent and good value - the food was excellent4
Lovely food and excellent service. Beautiful setting. It was ideal for us.
I had a great afternoon with my mother in law. Staff were very friendly. Food was fantastic.
First time visit and loved it!. My sister has food allergies and intolerances and was catered for beautifully. Very attentive staff and any hiccups were dealt with swiftly and efficiently.
Would definitely recommend for great food, friendly staff and lovely atmosphere.
Excellent Sunday lunch in a stunning mediaeval setting. Beautiful rare beef and interesting veg. Horseradish cream a bit bland - I like mine with more oomph and HR. Prefer a crumble which has been baked as one not deconstructed. But a lovely lunch and great experience- highly recommend.
Really nice food in lovely surrounding.
Environment and service very good. Accessibility an issue for older and disabled people. Food is average
Expensive for the food that was served
I organised lunch for three on Wednesday, 16th January, 2019. We all took the table d'hote menu and thought it excellent value. Service at every stage, from arrival to departure, was attentive, efficient and pleasant. There is a sensible selection of wines at reasonable prices. Overall, one of the best places in Oxford for a civilised meal in civilised surroundings.
Wonderful dining experience in a warm, charming setting. Excellent service too.
Sunday lunch was excellent with well-cooked, tasty food in ample proportions of well-matched ingredients. The service was prompt and efficient but we were not hustled to finish despite a busy restaurant. We have been to this hotel before but on this visit, all four of us felt the standard had gone up a bit further than before. The wine list is good but could be a lot more informative about the wines on it .
Great food, service and atmoshpere:) had beautiful meal and would come back again:)
Had a lovely afternoon with friends. The service was excellent, the waitress was lovely and available when we needed her but we never had the feeling of being rushed.
I highly recommend the Old Parsonage and look forward to my next visit.
We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea at the Parsonage Grill. We will go back again when we are in Oxford again. All of the food selections were tasty, and the service and ambiance were excellent.
Waitress wrote down our order of one starter and two main courses. She arrived sometime later with main courses and had forgotten to bring starter. Although her error was reflected in the final bill, it was a disappointing experience as this meal was long awaited to celebrate a milestone wedding anniversary.
Great spot for afternoon tea. Had “Very High” and “Savoury” Tea. Cosy ambience. Service very good. Given the price bracket and set menus, one would expect some really great food, honed over thousands of High Tea services. Sadly it was just so-so. Sandwiches stale. Scones on the dry side. Petit fours poorly executed. Overall, still a very nice place just not best value for money.
The Old Parsonage was recommended to us by an old friend who lived in Oxford whilst working at the University some years ago. The entrance itself is magical and offers a warm welcome, particularly on a cold night so to be greeted by the cosy fire in the bar area made us feel very relaxed. The staff were a happy and efficient bunch both in the bar and the restaurant. The menu was clever and inspiring and the food was neatly presented and truly delicious. The collection of portraits throughout the building offer a fine point of conversation and without doubt, add a huge amount of interest. A most enjoyable evening.
Excellent across the board. Highly recommended.
It is always good there and I love it
Keep up the good work
Overall good restaurant
Comments for improvement:
Initial greeting excellent
No specials offered
Tables to close
Should have been advised side dishes were unnecessary, duplication
We stayed at the hotel and most appreciated that they made room for us at Christmas dinner. Excellent cuisine in a gorgeous setting with impeccable, friendly service.
A very good atmosphere, friendly and fast service, and a good menu. Not cheap, but stylish and convivial.
We always try and come to the OP at Christmas, as 4 years ago we came with our daughter when she was 2 weeks old. We'd booked a 'last romantic meal as a couple' before she was born, but she came early so we thought we'd bring her along. We ate near the fire, had a rushed but lovely early meal and were at home barely an hour after we'd arrived. It was a very special time, which is whey we like to come back. The Old Parsonage looks amazing at Christmas - twinkly lights, fires, warmth and darkness. It's beautiful. The staff are lovely, welcoming and very professional. The food....well it's fine, not amazing choices for vegetarians (my wife is) and traditional meaty dishes for me. But it's pricey for what it is and I've had lighter, tastier dishes for far less. The M-F theatre menu looks good value, but the meal we had was slightly underwhelming. If the food was as good as the atmos, it'd be an absolute winner, but next year we might just come for a drink and snack by the bar. Merry Christmas Old Parsonage, we do love you anyway. PS Afternoon tea here is outstanding by the way.
Took my mum for her 60th birthday and they couldn’t do enough to make our day special the afternoon tea was beautiful
