went for a friend's 50th. top class. Service a bit slow. lovely staff. wouldn't hesitate to return. food was fantastic.
We came with friends who had never been to Oxford before - we know Oxford well, but had never been to the Parsonage Grill. We had heard that it was very good, but actually were disappointed. The menu seemed limited and uninspiring - the food was perfectly fine (fishcakes), but very expensive for what it was. Portion size was small. Our waitress was good, but we were sorry that there was no personal touch from the management as we left - nobody, apart from our waitress, asked us whether we had enjoyed our meal. We had booked the Parsonage for a special occasion, and felt rather let down. The Quod, which we had visited the night before, proved to be much the better of the two restaurants. We will certainly go there again, though not to the Parsonage.
We were five people for lunch. We found an appealing menu, well-prepared dishes, perfect service (attentive but never invasive), and a nice quiet table (we ate inside on a sunny day when other customers opted to eat al fresco). In the past this restaurant has seemed a bit noisy when full, but this wasn't the case today. Definitely a favourite when in Oxford.
Great food, beautiful ambience and very helpful staff
Celebration cream tea was excellent (the champagne was incredibly good) and the savoury tea was even better, especially the blue cheese scones and the black pudding sausage roll. Service was great and I would definitely go again.
Pretty place, great attentive service (waiter brought ‘special’ milkshakes for our children and engaged with them), great afternoon tea.... we have already recommended to my family and are booking to return.
Very much enjoyed a leisurely lunch at The Parsonage Grill. The meal was very good, but rather overpriced. Will definitely go again, but not regularly as too expensive.
A pleasant atmosphere, bit too club-like and dark with lots of portraits to feel cosy. Food was good but not memorable or outstanding. Wouldn't rush back there.
Overall a very good experience. A little disappointed in the steak and overall presentation of the plate but plenty of flavour in it. The hand cut chips were the main letdown. The wrong variety of potato was being used and the were not triple cooked which made them literally like skinless potato wedges. Staff were attentive and we were very grateful for the birthday surprise. Overall good
Wonderful restaurant, the food was exceptional and the service was brilliant. The surroundings, including some beautiful paintings, are stunning and the ambience was superb! One of the best ever restaurants we have dined in we will certainly be back!
This used to be a great place. I booked it again because we enjoyed it so much last time. It has been sold and it is not good now. The place is not clean. The food is poor. They will not make any accommodations for dietary needs. There are wonderful places to eat in Oxford. This is no longer one of them.
Delicious food and faultless service in welcoming surroundings
Had a very relaxing time with good food. Pleasant ambience. Not cheap but felt food was well cooked and presented.
A lovely evening and as we had a long way to travel, excellent fast service with very tasty and interesting dishes. We will definitely come again.
Had a really lovely evening celebrating my husbands birthday. The staff were very attentive and he received a selection of deserts with happy birthday written in chocolate on the plate all complimentary. We had drinks at the bar prior to eating our delicious meal. Overall great service and food.
Stuffed saddle of lamb was perfect! Also, our waiter (Solin, sorry can’t remember?) was fantastic. Thank you!
Feels like a restaurant more than a tearoom. Not cosy enough. Plus we had a noisy table near us which was not great. However finger sandwiches were very nice.
We ordered 5 high teas (3 savoury and 2 sweet). The food was really good, though the service was a bit slow and we got the wrong order at the beginning (only 4 portions instead of 5). The mistake was however promptly rectified. The ambience outside was really nice.
The Old Parsonage was a gift for a special occasion and we would recommend it for such an occasion. While it was expensive by our modest standards, it certainly lived up to it reputation for fine food, wine and general ambience. the staff were most attentive and were worth the 12 1/2 % added to the bill for service. We had a delightful lunch during which time flew by. A very safe recommendation!
Fantastic place and great ambiance with food to entice the senses and wine of the god worth a romantic dinner for two.
Service was superb and the food was delicious. I'm glad we chose to eat there on our weekend trip to Oxford and would definitely eat there again.
Lovely scones served with beautiful jam. We were offered a 2nd round of sandwiches were clearly just cut and better than the first. Good choice of cakes, nice unobtrusive service which was very slightly let down by the server smelling of cigarette smoke at one point. Will be back :)
I love the Parsonage for any meal. It is nice to be taken care of by outstanding staff and chef. The food is exceptional. The scallops were lovely and the rhubarb sorbet and tart/crumble were fresh and fabulous. My only complaint. The table chairs in the dining room are too short and not suitable for people living in this century.
It’s a very attractive space, dark blue walls with interesting mix of portraits. But the food was simply not very good. Purple spouted broccoli was not purple and very salty. Other dishes begged for a bit of salt. Carrots were pale and tasteless, potatoes waxy and bland. Sea bream forgettable. Food did not measure up to menu descriptions. Professional staff but they cannot make up for poor and pricey food.
The setting and ambience at the Parsonage is fabulous. The sandwiches and scones were excellent but some of the cakes let them down. The tea was delightful and the staff were attentive and friendly. Overall a great experience.
My partner and l went there for (Sunday) lunch as our last port of call before heading back to London after a lovely weekend in Oxford.
The building has parking (which was a plus - as we investigated quite a few which didn’t)
(I understand that Oxford is a bike-friendly place)
The building is beautiful and historic inside and out and the furnishings have a glamorous rustic charm.
The fire was blazing and and the staff were helpful and attentive.
The food - We went for Sunday lunch - it was tasty and well portioned - the food wasn’t entirely vegan- friendly but staff did their best to accommodate me.
I’d definitely return.
We were here in Oxford for a weekend, and found this restaurant trough trip-advisor.
Unfortunately,it does not meet the expectations raised on trip-advidor. My wife had scallops for a starter. 1 scallop and a little one for 14,50£ is not worth the money.
We both had the rib eye steak with fries and salad for 34,00£ absolutely not worth the money.
Finishing it off with a cold Irish coffee, to sum up a disappointing experience
The ambience and friendly service cannot be faulted. The food, however, was poor. The choice of starters were predominantly fish-based. Main courses were boring, bland and undercooked, and we didn't even bother to look at desserts. To his credit, the bar tender makes a wonderful lemon drop cocktail.
An enjoyable afternoon tea, but very expensive for what it is - £78 for 2 people
We had a lovely time enjoying Afternoon Tea. Our waiter Sorin was A* in his attentiveness and professionalism. The surroundings were superb as was the food. Thoroughly recommended 👍🏼
I've eaten at the Old Parsonage several times and it is usually a place to recommend if you're looking for a good dinner as a special treat in Oxford. In this case I went there as an eight year anniversary treat and although I did enjoy the evening and the food, it wasn't as good as it has been in the past. The cheese souffle's taste was subtle, but almost too subtle, so when paired with the bitter leaves the resulting taste was just bitter leaf with added mush. The saddle of lamb was tasty, but suffered from too much gravy (unless you order a bucket of chips or potatoes to mop it up with) and too much fat that was verging on the undercooked. The lamb chops I had there the previous year were far superior. I can't fault the desert though and will praise their excellent wine menu, but their service was rushed, their cocktails too syrupy, and the ambience relatively loud when trying to enjoy a romantic dinner.
Such a nice place, the decor was beautiful but the food was very bland and incredibly expensive. The food and menu really was disappointing.
A perfect Mothers Day lunch, all the staff were lovely and happy to make our
meal a special event, with a small bunch of flowers to go home with.
Food excellent, ambience good, very expensive and very noisy. A good dining experience but not one that I could afford on a regular basis. The noise issue is mentioned because I suffer from hearing loss and use a hearing aid which was rendered useless by the background noise level; I am sure that I am not the only customer to have experienced this.
As always, excellent, delicious food, served very promptly with exemplary service, perfect dining experience.
Had a lovely unhurried breakfast, sitting outside on a lovely sunny morning in March!
Excellent restaurant with great quality food and a lovely ambience.
An excellent dinner in very pleasant surroundings. Service was very good indeed.
Excellent Afternoon Tea. I had notified the restaurant at the time of booking that my two guests were celebrating their birthdays. The lady at reception even took their names.
We enjoyed our glass of champagne and the afternoon tea. However, I would have expected some kind of recognition of the fact that my guests were celebrating their birthdays but nothing was said or provided. This was especially disappointing as the lady made a note of their names.
Incredible food and spectacular service. Really felt special.
