The twice baked soufflé was light and fluffy, the pate like velvet and the pork cooked to perfection. Sadly we couldn’t manage a dessert. Looking forward to eating there again very soon.
Excellent food and service. Thoroughly enjoyed everything
As usual Sam (front of house) and Ben (chef) worked their magic. All faultless from our welcome til the end, and we were there a long time!! Service was great-lovely waiting staff and food as always scrumptious
Lovely meal in a beautiful space, highly recommended.
This is our must go to restaurant on a visit to Cornwall. We have never had the same meal twice. The menu continually changes and is always perfect in every respect.
This is a hidden gem in the countryside, visit once and you are hooked on their seafood
As always a fantastic lunch with hospitality to match. Our favourite restaurant in Cornwall. Just a shame we can't eat there every week!
We have eaten at Penrose Kitchen three times now. Each time we were very impressed with the relaxed atmosphere, very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable service. In particular the separate menu for the gluten free diners in our party was very well received. The food was superb and we had a most enjoyable dining experience. We will definitely eat here again and recommend the restaurant to friends and family.
Overall excellent!
1st meal out since lockdown and we wasn't disappointed. Had a festive meal and all 3 courses were beautiful cooked and presented.
Staff were very friendly and food exceptional, will definitely be back.
As always we felt very welcome and the lunch was very relaxed: the food was very good as always - especially the cuttlefish!
Our favourite place to eat.
We had a fabulous meal everything was excellent, staff were wonderful. We were there to celebrate my 60th birthday and we did it in style, with excellent service and fabulous food. Thank you Penrose kitchen I would highly recommend
Excellent again in every way. Quality local produce expertly cooked with excellent service.
We really enjoyed our lunch on Wednesday and I was very grateful for Ben suggesting bringing the booking a day forward. The spacing between tables is very good but as it was such a lovely day it was a bit disappointing that the outdoor area was closed as we were extremely warm by the log burner and it felt a little bit airless with no ventilation.
The food and the service was superb and the ambience perfect. I will come back with friends for another meal possibly evening especially when the weather warms up and eating alfresco is available again. I wish you well in such challenging times and I know that my friends who had not been before will undoubtedly be back. Thank you
The best Sunday roast I’ve had in many years. Friendly staff and great service.
We went here for sunday lunch. Friendly welcome but this place feels like a noisy office canteen we had problems hearing each other. After sitting down we immediately both felt something was odd, either the table was too high or the chairs too low, we have never come across that before (it was explained later that the chairs are very 'sinky'). We have never been keen on restaurants that also have artwork for sale on the walls. We had starters of scallops and pig cheek, both quite good but nothing special. I had roast beef which was served with very bland veg and an even more bland yorkshire pudding. My wife had fish which she said was not that fresh and possibly 'on the turn'. In summary, we will not be returning. We never complain unless food is truely inedible, so just saw the expereince through and left. We would like to think we caught them on a bad day as there are some very good reviews, oh well back to our usual haunts which are much more cosy and always spot on with their standards.
THe food was pretty basic, badly cooked steak, over dry potatoes, basic jus. Could have been a lot better really for the price and the high end experience they tried to create.
Once we had a lovely lunch. Very welcoming host and beautiful food. Thank you.
Amazing place. The chef really knows how to cook. Food was amazing and the waiting staff were lovely and attentive
Really lovely meal choices and wine selection. Highly recommend.
What a wonderful discovery on my local Truro doorstep. I'm sure it will become a regular venue for us. The empty plates tell the best story. Wonderful food with good portions and choice.
The entire night was fantastic, from the food, to the service and friendliness of staff. Couldn’t fault anything. As a bonus we were sat next to the fireplace on a cold night.
We had such high expectations but sadly the food was extremely bland. It felt like we were eating the healthy versions of everything - no oil, no salt, no butter! Which is fine with appropriate ingredients not for what we ordered (scallops, cuttlefish, plaice). Even the promised 'roast' potatoes and 'roast' salsify were definitely steamed! Service was very good but the room does have a sort of salon feel to it. Sadly not sure we will be coming back.
Fantastic Sunday lunch. Attention to detail considering the current circumstances, fabulous food, cooked to perfect and brilliant service. Great value for money and will definitely be back. Well done all at Penrose Kitchen.
We thoroughly enjoyed lunch with friends at Penrose Kitchen last Sunday. We were made very welcome, the staff were friendly and efficient and the Sunday roast delicious 😋
As always lovely food, wonderful friendly service and a great setting
Great food with interesting choices all superbly cooked.
Very safe Covid aware environment with attentive service.
Wine was excellent and the Primativo was a great addition to the wine list.
Service was fantastic and the ambiance was very pleasant. The food wasn't anything special, it was tasty but I don't think it was good value for money (certainly nothing stand-out). My scallop starter was delicious and they very kindly swapped the black pudding with mushrooms as I don't eat meat. For the main, for £22 I had the turbot which was very fatty, the baby leeks were too tough to chew and cavolo nero was so tough that my plate was sliding about on the table when I was trying to cut through it. We also didn't get the opportunity to relay this to the staff in person as no one asked how the food was. It was great to see that most products were locally sourced and the menu made a point of stating where the ingredients were from. Overall it was a nice experience, they just need to bring the prices down, or standard of food up!
I had been recommended by a good friend and thought I would try them out for myself and I must say that I was not disappointed. The whole experience was wonderful it was so great that I gave an enormous tip I would recommend penrose kitchen to anyone with absolute confidence that they would have the same great experience that I and my wife enjoyed.
Delicious food, loved by all the family. Great value in lovely location. Friendly and helpful staff. Will return ! Great start to our short break in Cornwall !
Absolutely brilliant - have already recommended to friends. Has all the Covid procedures in place but still manages to have a great ambiance. Will definitely go again.
Amazing food as usual, lovely to see Sam and Ben doing so well under the circumstances, felt 100%safe immaculate furnishings.
Lovely, clean, “socially distanced” environment - Really friendly service & fabulous food. Good wine list too.
We were on holiday in the area and the visitor's book in the cottage where we stayed recommended Penrose kitchen. We were not disappointed and went their twice. Once for Sunday lunch and then for an evening meal. Everything about the place is excellent. It's a real hidden gem.
Simply can’t fault Penrose Kitchen. From the rural location, excellent service to the beautiful food our lunchtime dining experience was perfect.
I’d highly recommend a visit.
Fabulous place and excellent value for money. Setting and service was excellent too
Having been before we felt confident of an enjoyable experience and we were not disappointed.
We had a lovely evening from the gracious, friendly greeting, superb food and wine in a very special ambience.
This is a small but lovely restaurant, it is a must every time we visit Cornwall
Absolutely superb. Penrose Kitchen is one of the best dining experiences we have enjoyed over many years of eating out in Cornwall. A wonderful marriage of flavours with the food coupled with an excellent wine list with the option of a carafe for quite a few of the wines. Exemplary service too - just don't tell everyone about this hidden-away gem just outside of Truro otherwise we won't be able to book a table. In a different league altogether. We will be back certainly twice before year-end - if they will have us.
We had a lovely lunch at Penrose Kitchen. The service was warm, friendly and efficient, the tables were well spaced out, hygiene precautions were good, and the food was excellent. I especially appreciated the vegan menu - having rung beforehand to ask about vegan options (as the menus on the website are for omnivores) I was delighted to be offered two imaginative options for each course. The drinks list was wide ranging, with some great mocktails and soft drinks for the designated driver. If we lived nearby we'd be back!
An excellent meal, staff were brilliant, and great to watch the chef preparing such fine foods. Felt safe with the COVID restrictions. Highly recommended, we will be returning.
