The food was excellent, served by very polite and helpful waitresses. We were not rushed between courses which meant that we could enjoy both the food and the company. The choice on the menu was good with both fish and vegetarian options. There is a great ambience in the restaurant, a very enjoyable experience. We will be back and recommending Penrose Kitchen to friends.
The wrong dish was sent out and the other meal was taken back when returned other dish cold and sent back again reheated not replaced and ruined. We left. Didn't get charged and manager did best to resolve a ruined family event. A real covid hazard food passing in and out 3 times
The food, service and experience is always exemplary at Penrose Kitchen. It is a real treat to be offered this level of service and cuisine at such an accessible price. A fantastic opportunity to try very high quality food locally, with lots of options catered for, and an excellent range of wines and drinks available.
Keep an eye on their set menu offerings and special events, too!
Favourite venue for us, always excellent food, wine, ambience and service with a smile.
We were celebrating our wedding anniversary. We had had a poor experience a few weeks earlier on the actual anniversary and so when were asked to go out for a meal for a research project I am involved in, we decided to choose somewhere really nice.
We were not disappointed with our evening. I had emailed about my intolerances and some other dietary issues in advance and the waitress was fully appraised of the information. There was a warm welcome and the waitress was very attentive all evening, neither rushing us or neglecting us and she made good conversation all evening putting me at ease regarding my dietary needs and discussing our choices. She definitely played a huge part in making our evening so enjoyable.
The food arrived in good time and was absolutely delicious. We both had the duck with vegetables and everything was cooked to perfection with exciting flavours. It was all beautifully presented and served well.
The waitress agreed with our pudding choices and she was right in saying that both were wonderfully tasty.
We had a really good evening and thanked the chef as we left for such fine cuisine. The waitress offered to take our photograph around the splendid Christmas tree just before we left.
The food was not cheap but provided good value. It’s not the sort of place we could afford to visit too regularly, but definitely top of our list for special occasions.
The only downside with a great place to eat is that it can get booked up. We managed to get a cancellation the night before so always worth checking Hadn’t visited for a while but always a warm welcome on arrival. It was busy but the food and service did not suffer and the meal was fabulous.
Thank you Sam and Ben.
The lady that served us all night was incredibly attentive and the chef giving us the bill was a real change from the norm
Totally amazing food and great ambience
This place is totally amazing
We will definitely be going back for more
Super great couple doing super great food and more xxxxxxxxx.
Our first visit and really enjoyed it. Couldn’t fault it. Will be back!
Fabulous Sunday lunch, wonderful local produce presented in a lovely peaceful setting.
Outstanding quality and value.
Went for lunch with a couple of friends. Lovely lounge area with log burner while we waited to be seated, then a bright, comfortable dining area with another log burner. The service was excellent, friendly and chatty, but never felt rushed or pressed to make any decisions on food. Very good advice on food - the souffle starter was delicious! The duck of the main course was cooked to perfection and very tasty. We will all definitely go back - a lovely place.
Beautiful food, great presentation, attentive service.
An excellent meal, attentive staff, tucked away as it is a hidden treasure!
Great to find an excellent restaurant near Truro that serves first-class food in a pleasant atmosphere. Prices are reasonable and we have booked to eat there again in two weeks.
So nice to find a restaurant that has not gone down market to cater for the burger and chips brigade.
Took my mum for her birthday. The food was outstanding!! The service was friendly, personal and excellent!! Was a lovely experience and definitely recommended.
Very disappointing Sunday roast not up to the usual standard. Largely lacking in flavour and very poor quality beef was served. Difficult to cut and chewy.
Also we were over charged by £10 , when this was pointed out it was corrected but really just dismissed.
We enjoyed our meal very much. The food was excellent and the service friendly and welcoming. There's plenty of space between tables so it feels very safe. Also lots of parking right outside so it's perfect for anyone with mobility issues
A lovely venue backed up by excellent food and service. It is most certainly our favourite restaurant.
As ever a lovely choice of dishes on the men, making it hard to choose what to eat. Nice friendly, efficient service in pleasant surroundings. Highly recommended.
I brought some friends for Sunday lunch as a thank you, the food was delicious and service could not have been better, it was my friends first time and I know they will be back and so will I keep doing what you are doing and never take the double baked cheese souffle off the menu, many thanks
Fantastic restaurant. Lovely food and service. Top notch all round. Hidden away next to a lovely water garden.
Perfect for a relaxing lunch to catchup with friends
Great food and friendly service as always.
As good if not better than some of the local well known restraunteurs. Great quality and good value for money.
Amazing as always
Lovely Birthday meal.
From the moment we were greeted to the time we left we received excellent service - the staff couldn’t have been any better. Then the food …. Simply sensational! The cheese soufflé was light & so flavoursome & I had the lamb which was cooked to perfection. I can’t find fault with anything & such good value for lunch too for this quality of food. Can’t wait to return, thank you
Another lovely evening at Penrose Kitchen . We took friends from Cheshire who said it was their best meal for a long time . Service was excellent and choice of food was local and a great variety. Thanks
The food and service were excellent as always. The restaurant is spacious but warm and welcoming. Highly recommended.
My first visit to Penrose Kitchen, but definitely not my last. The food was freshly cooked and delicious, service very efficient and friendly. A very relaxing atmosphere in the reception.
We would definitely recommend the penrose kitchen, service was excellent, food menu choice was also excellent, excellent choice of wines, food quality and presentation was outstanding
A hidden gem of a place. We ate outside as it was a glorious autumn lunchtime. Sitting on the decking looking over the lily ponds. Delicious choice of dishes to choose from and simply divine mocktails to accompany our food. Service, friendly and accommodating. Would we recommend most definitely.
Simply put, the Penrose served the highest quality food we ate in our week
Long stay in Cornwall and we’d love to dine there again.
The soufflé starter was fantastic - choose that if you can! - and the sole main course wonderfully tasty. My wife had sea bass and she thought the same.
The restaurant itself is fairly basic in layout and decor but don’t let that put you off if you’re interested in food - the chef’s CV includes The Savoy and Le Gavroche - and friendly service.
This was the first time we had visited Penrose Kitchen and were delighted with the layout, the warmth of our hostess Sam, front of house, and the kitchen delights created by her husband Ben. Overall it’s an unexpected gem and we will definitely have this as our ‘go to’ treat.
This restaurant is a hidden gem. It is very easy to sumup the place up. Situated in a beautiful spot overlooking a water garden, the food is as good as it gets. The chef is not only great at his role but also is a really friendly man. The lady who is the meet and greet as well as the waitress is one of the best we have ever witnesssed. They deserve to succeed.
Our annual visit to this delightful restaurant didn't disappoint and on this occasion we were able to sit out on the verandah in the sunshine listening to the stags bellowing.
The cheese souffles did not disappoint. Piping hot & light and fluffy - simply scrumptuous. The red gurnard and brisket were equally as delicious and cooked to perfection.
Great value for money.
We'll be back next year hopefully to witness the lilies in bloom - must be quite a spectacle!
we sat outside in beautiful sunshine. The souffles were superb. Main course vegetables could have been improved, more imaginative.
All, as usual, excellent - despite Ben working after injuring his hand - well done!
Good quality food locally sourced and very well cooked excellent service
When we arrived there was 3 not 2 and this was sorted very quickly and with no fuss, we took sets for a pre dinner drink and were shown to our table at 8 15, which was a shame as the booking was for 7.15.
Food and service made up for the delay, its aways a pleasure to eat there.
Date night with my future husband 😉 great food, locally sourced, top quality ingredients, scallops were delicious and the steak was perfect!
Great service, lovely restaurant, only slight niggle was lights at the table were quite bright! Not a complaint by any stretch! Just personal preference for a more pleasing ambiance.
We will return.
