Penventon Park Hotel - The Restaurant
Explore a worldly menu where gourmet dishes contrast with authentic Asian influences and modern classics. Or why not savour the perfect steak, or seafood from our signature wood-charcoal oven.
With a range of flexible menu options including light snacks served 24/7, a choice of traditional afternoon teas, or full à la carte, our experienced team relish in ensuring every moment and mouthful is truly delightful.
Really enjoyed our visit to Penventon hotel, Dinner was nicely presented, though we thought perhaps a bit more vegetables would have been nice, as the ones we had were perfectly cooked,
This was our third visit for Sunday lunch. The roast was excellent and good value in such pleasant surroundings and with very attentive service. I have only marked the food down as the creme caramel dessert was curdled and not as good as usual.
The noise level was good which is very important to us although I must say the restaurant wasn't crowded. We ate early. No pianist this time.
The restaurant manager remembered us from previous visits (in a good way) which was appreciated.
Lovely atmosphere, comfortable lounge.
The afternoon tea has changed unfortunately. The quality seemed to have deteriorated since we last visited in May.
lovely setting, service was good, shame about the food, had the set menu of catch of the day, sea bream ,cooked ok but bland no seasoning, served with new potatoes, again no flavour, hard with raw broccoli, nob butter, being a chef would not serve that. had mrs ps tirimusu.oh dear enough said.
I couldn't fault the staff who were exceptionally polite and attentive, the restaurant was lovely and the menu was good with a nice selection at reasonable prices.
Unfortunately on my visit the food didn't quite live up to the rest of the elements in the restaurant. The chicken dish I had tasted good, however the chicken was dry and although there was a delicious sauce on the dish, there simply wasn't enough sauce to make up for the dry chicken.
I ordered the white chocolate and berry cheesecake for pudding. This was a real letdown as the cheesecake itself was more of a blancmange/jelly consistency rather than a creamy cheesecake and had no flavour whatsoever. I love puddings and I ended up leaving some as it just wasn't a nice experience to eat it. The sorbet with the cheese cake was however delicious!
They may have been having an off day or a different chef, but I definitely had high hopes for the food based on the rest of the hotel experience and was disappointed by what I was served.
We have been dining at the Penventon Hotel for many years and witnessed many changes during this time, both with regard to the management team, staff and varying menus. The food is never disappointing and of a high standard, sometimes service can be a little on the slow side, but the staff are always very polite and friendly. One negative point however is that the lunch menu has now become quite small and limited and this is probably reflected in the restaurant being very quiet most lunch-times. When my husband and I dined there this week, there was only one table of four in the restaurant with us which didn't bode well with regards to the ambience. May be the management team need to look into lunch-time special 'offers' as they had a few years ago, which, for regular diners, would make dining there more interesting.
Great restaurant and delicious food. The staff are always polite and friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. Highly recommend the restaurant. We were hoping to order the vegetarian Sunday roast but were too slow, so if you want a vegetarian meal the staff are more than happy to take a pre order over the telephone before you visit
Regular customers to this superb establishment run as always with that personal touch so lacking in other hotels
Superb, friendly service giving extremely good value for money. The food was excellent with large amount of choice and the food and drink were very reasonably priced for a 4star hotel. The waiting staff were attentive but not over bearing. All in all an excellent experience.
Yes this is a very good experience and wrth a trip.do it now
Excellent food, service and venue. Knowledgeable staff on drinks (bar) good service in the restaurant (although a little surprised to have someone serving food with long red false nails) Food and wine excellent. Most enjoyable evening.
Service was quick and friendly. The surroundings very pleasant and the food good value.
My wife and I stayed at the hotel for two nights, we had both breakfast and an evening meal in the restaurant. Even though there was a wedding at the hotel the food was amazing, came out fast and the presentation was great.
Had a lovely Sunday lunch, good value for money, only down side service was a little slow, but all very polite and helpful
I booked at this restaurant for father's day and was very impressed with the staff from the minute we walked through the door. My husband didn't get his steak cooked the way he had requested and was told it would be a while until it would be ready. With all other dinners on the table and obviously wanting to eat together we asked for a roast instead. This came out very quickly with extra vegetables and we were told it would be taken off the bill for the inconvienence. The staff were very attentive and we will definitely be returning!
Helpful staff and lovely ambience in a town that's seen better days. Excellent cream tea and sandwiches with lots of delicious scones and cakes beautifully served. A table was set in a dark corner, but the staff willingly moved the crockery to a very nice old table with luxurious settees and an attractive view out of a large window. Thank you for a most enjoyable tea Penventon!
Such an amazing hotel, restaurant. Staff were all so friendly and so very helpful. The food was totally yummy. Would recommend to everyone. You must try. Thank you so much
The hotel has a lovely ambiance feel to it and we visited the hotel for Sunday dinner.
The service was good and the staff were friendly. However, the quality of the food sadly is simply not as good as it used to be.
My wife and I both had the Sunday carvery opting for beef and pork. In fairness, the meat was tasty and the portion size was very reasonable. However, the roast potatoes were not freshly cooked or remotely crispy and all of the vegetables had simply been reheated having that awful luke warm microwave texture to them. The carrots and parsnips had completely dried shrivelled edges to them and the cauliflower cheese was tasteless, watery and had an odd grey colour to it which had been flashed under the grill and the florets were burnt.
We have persevered with the food for approximately the last 18mths purely because we have been visiting the penventon for over 20 years and always loved it. Sadly this has now been the last 3rd or 4th meal and it has become obvious there has been a change of chefs/cooks and staff and the standard of food for this rosette rated hotel is simply well below the standard expected. I hope that this review is not dismissed as it it an honest reflection of the food quality. I hope that it this is addressed and changes are made to get it back to the standard that once was in the near future.
Kindest Regards Damian and Lisa
Dinner was bland, only 1 thing on menu for vegi. Breakfast even more bland. Wouldnt recommend going here. Disappointing
As soon as we arrived we what a warm welcome. The food was amazing and to a high standard, my only complaint is that the Creme Bruleé was overcooked, and the music was a little quiet in the restaurant.
For what you pay, it's a great meal.
Nice food with good service and friendly staff, set in nice surroundings.
Excellent as usual. Thank you . A special thank you to Maggie and her team
Me and my husband love returning to Penventon every year for our wedding anniversary, after having our wedding reception there 3 years ago! Always an amazing atmosphere, polite and friendly service and the food is always delicious! Thanks again Hannah and Jordan Lyth
We enjoy dining at the PV several times a year for special occasions. However we were disappointed on this recent visit for my husband's birthday. There were only 5 tables in the restaurant yet it took over 2hours to be served one starter and a main course each. We decided against desert for this reason. Apparently there were 2 functions on in other rooms but this should not hinder booked service in the restaurant. They should either close the restaurant on these nights, warn you on booking that service will be considerably longer than usual or take on more staff. One waiter was not enough. It took 25mins from getting the desert menu to getting hold of the waiter to say we gave up waiting and now wanted the bill instead, yet this only took seconds to arrive. The portions were much smaller than usual, and although tasty did not nearly fill us up. We expect more from a meal and drink costing £80. Very disappointed.
the food was a let down paid for 4 star but got 1 star not very impressed would have asked for a refund if possible
The hotel is so welcoming, you drive in no problem parking. The staff behind the bar were excellent and most helpful.
The meal was very good, a steak to die for, the waiting staff again very very good. Overall an excellent dining experience.
I’m vegetarian, so checked out the menu before I went. The vegetarian options were limited to 3 dishes, but I really liked to look of one dish, and one starter. I was taking my 82 year old mother as a surprise during her stay with me, and told her the day before so she could also have a look at the menu. She chose what she would like.
We were offered still or sparkling water, my mum asked for tap and was ignored. We were given a bottle of still water and changed £2.95. The menu didn't have any of the meals we wanted, we were told it says on the website that they are subject to change, it doesn’t. I had bead for a starter and risotto as my main.
When the bread came it was a bread board, rather than “a selection of artisan breads” described on the menu. I expected it to be placed on the table to be shared, but was sharply told “can you move your napkin”, and had it placed in front of me, and then, dripping in sarcasm, “that makes it easier, doesn’t it?”
The risotto was cooked well enough, but very bland. My mum had a chicken liver dish for starter, it was very red in the middle and I told her to stop eating it, we told the staff, who just took it away without apology. She was up most of the night very ill, so it was just as well she didn’t eat all of it.
I am a local in Redruth, but I will not be going back to the PV, and I strongly suspect that they really couldn’t care less.
Waited 45 minutes for a cream tea, service terrible, we left in the end, staff uninterested and looked bored!! Deputy manger didn’t have a clue what he was doing!!
Fantastic place with great food, drinks & lovely, friendly staff. Look forward to seeing you all again soon...we’ll done Penventon Hotel, 5 stars!
What can I say,we had a lovely time and the meal was excellent, also the service was excellent,no doubt we will be back 😁thanks again
My partner and I love it here. Last time we came it was lovely, there was a pianist that made the restaurant feel relaxed. This time there was no music so the chatter level was higher.
The staff were fantastic. The barman was most helpful and professional. The young waiter that served us was very passionate and pleasant.
The food was outstanding - however the presentation wasn't as good as last time. The flavours couldn't be faulted though. The squid especially.
We will be back again. PV is our favourite place for a 'date night'.
I booked a table for a mid week lunch, the menu had a lovely choice and the food we had wasn't too much but just enough so we managed to all have three courses. Great service and great food.
We are regular visitors to the Penventon Dining Experience and are never disappointed. Thank you to the Penventon and indeed the staff.
A disappointing experience this time....
We were called into the restaurant 20mins after our reservation time by a waitress who didn't seem to know what was going on.
We ordered 1 fillet & 1 rump steak which after questioning s5aff my husband & i are still convinced they got the wrong way round.....
We will reserve judgement before recommending to anyone.
Excellent in all respects. Recommended for dining and staying
The prices were for 5 star food; but it was mediocre at best. The £3 each scallops were tepid. The ribeye steak had to be returned for a second attempt to be medium rare. The £29 fillet was unexceptional and had a texture I associate with microwave-thawed.
Overall, the meal (£80) would have disappointed in a gastro- pub at £50.
We had a fantastic meal as usual. It was Sunday lunch time so we chose the Roast Dinner. Beef was our favourite and it was delicious. Both the meat and the veg were cooked superbly. Thank you to all the staff.
Excellent service and great food. Would definitely recommend.
Brilliant service delicious food and wonderful atmosphere definitely return and recommend
As the meal we had was as part of a seasonal special deal, then it was good value. Had we paid full price then maybe a bit expensive.
The new chef certainly turned out some good dishes, but maybe the portion sizes could have been a bit more generous. - after all the ingredients are probably one of the smallest cost items.
The bill could have been better laid out as initially I queries it for accuracy. Apparently I am not the only person to have misread it.
If I was on expenses, then I would be quite happy with the meal, but as a pensioner it would have to be more a special occasion.
