Petersham Nurseries Cafe Richmond
It is a place of calm, away from the bustle of London, that respects and is in tune with nature and positive living.
The Boglione family, who own the nurseries and live in the adjoining Petersham House are rooted to their blend of British and Italian culture which remains at the heart of the business and is reflected in the style of the food that is served. Petersham Nurseries Café is inspired by what is growing in our kitchen garden and by the produce supplied to us by our sister company, Haye Farm.
Whilst maintaining their passion for simplicity, flora, fauna and responsibly sourced produce they have created an unparalleled setting just outside of central London.

One of my favourite restaurants. Beautiful setting, delicious food and great staff.
The setting at Petersham is lovely and it was comfortable outside thanks to the heaters. But at £500 for 4 the food simply isn’t ‘wow’ enough, or generous enough either. The price for the set menu was higher than advertised on the website and we also had an ‘elephant donation’ added to the bill - ‘only’ £5, but I would have thought we were paying enough to cover that anyway!! It was a lovely first evening out, but honestly can’t justify that price for a repeat visit - really basic things like seasoning, the cut of the beef for the carpaccio (thick and fatty), the chickpeas had the consistency of bullets, the chocolate tart was hard and unappetising. I could go on, but perhaps some of this is due to lack of recent practice. I suppose we expected better, and sadly it wasn’t up to scratch.
My favourite restaurant. Fabulous setting. Particularly on a sunny day. But there were plenty of heaters to keep you warm. Great service. Staff charming and food delicious. Couldn't ask for more.
Uniquely enjoyable experience: where else in London can you sit virtually outside, in beautiful surroundings and have exceptional quality food and service? A great treat.
On our first proper outing for over a year (we are elderly shielders) we were overjoyed
To be at Petersham. We had the full menu and it was all delicious and the surroundings hard to beat. Looking forward to the next visit.
Terrible service as ever. The waiter was friendly but I was kept waiting for 15minutes on arrival with zero interaction, the food took forever between each course and the place is clearly disorganised. The concept of sectioning seems like some kind of mystery. Over-priced and underwhelmed. I'm not sure why I keep going back.
So lovely to be back here for lunch with best friends on the first day restrictions lifted post lockdown number 3. The set menu is wonderful - I had the asparagus starter, the whole Dover sole and the dark chocolate and caramel tart - and the ambiance and service were delightful, as always. We actually felt like we were on holiday. Thank you! Really looking forward to our next visit.
A very pleasant environment and lovely, laid back but attentive service. The bill was pretty crazy though. The food was nice enough - fresh but not drop dead amazing. They may have been suffering from first day back syndrome.
A great escape - superb food, unobtrusive service in beautiful surroundings.
Lovely Christmassy ambience. Food good in general although needed seasoning. Tarte tatin was a little tasteless.
What a fabulous cosy atmosphere the team have created at Petersham, I want to spend all my time there. We had the set 3-course meal which is pricey but the portions aren't tiny, you'll leave very full, a little too much salt for me but I find that fairly common. Otherwise excellent.
A very special evening- delicious food, helpful and friendly staff and a beautiful atmosphere. A real treat!
We had a very enjoyable mother snd daughter lunch to celebrate my daughter’s engagement. The lunch was delicious snd the Bellini an added bonus. Can’t wait to come back!
Delicious, burata as a starter and dover sole as a main, the champagne bellini was very festive.
I often come to Petersham nurseries just to wander around but this time brought a girlfriend for a celebratory pre Christmas lunch. It was her first visit and she was not disappointed!
The ambience was great and felt very Christmassy. The service was faultless as was the food and so we both left feeling very jolly and I was very pleased I had suggested we eat there. A great start to the run up to Christmas in this craziest of years!!
Thank you Petersham
I had wanted to have dinner in this place for a long time and was really looking forward to discovering it as it looks so stunning. What I didn’t know is that they recently turned what used to be their ‘quick salad tea and cake’ greenhouse into another area of the restaurant and was very disappointed to be seated in that part, which in my opinion is not at all as nice as the main restaurant part. It is long and narrow, with tables lined up on both sides, with an empty space in the middle, so the atmosphere is nothing like the original dining area. Note I had booked a long time ahead, so I do not believe we ended up in that area because the other one was full. I feel I should at least have been told our table would be there.
In December, they only serve a fixed menu, which is very nice but probably not worth the £85 price tag. I originally thought this price would be balanced by the decor and the ambiance, but as said above, it wasn’t the case. So it was all a bit of a disappointment.
Anyway, my advice is to ask to be seated in the main area.
Love this place. Absolutely OUTSTANDING service. Chef accommodated our various dietary needs, delicious food and beautiful, one-of-a-kind restaurant. My fave place in London.
A very late birthday celebration dinner for our missed birthdays during lockdown. Lovely location, great food and service.
Wonderful as always. Such a special place and a great treat before christmas.
We felt that the PN fell short of its usual excellent standards this time . The fish dishes were a little flavourless but the chicken and butternut squash was delicious. Still a wonderful experience and will be returning.
Lovely experience and very well done in the current climate.
Another fabulous meal at Petersham nurseries. Delicious food. Very knowledgeable sommelier. Amazing atmosphere - esp in December with all the Christmas trees and decorations. Perfect.
A truly lovely lunch
Its so cool ! Very festive, lovely friendly staff & great food. We love that our dog is so welcome too !
I love Petersham nurseries. Such an airy place and the service and food was wonderful. Great set menu with a Bellini included.
Petersham nurseries is a lovely place. We have been at the tea house for lunch and cakes many times. This was the first time we went to the restaurant in the evening. Food was good but in terms of value for money (£85 per person for 3 courses), it is better to go to the tea house during the day. Lower prices and the same quality of food.
A fantastic place to go and dine. Food is absolutely delicious . Have been three times now and will be going back. Wonderful thank you.
The place is beautiful.
Was a little cold in December
And one of my friends got sick from her food. Her fish was not cooked all the way. They brought a new one. But something went wrong. Might of been the mussels.
Service was ok, could of come around more often.
And muddy outside
I think if we go again, spring would be nice and lunch. So you can see the nurseries and enjoy the outside areas.
I’m going back to give them a second chance because I’ve heard such amazing things about this place.
It was very cold, not sure if their heating wasn’t working but they stated bringing in portable radiators part way through the meal but nothing was mentioned.
Service was a good but several moments of confusion - for example we asked for the desert menu and were brought a steak knife and fork!
Incredible food, drinks and atmosphere as always!
Our waitress was fantastic, very helpful and attentive. Beautifully decorated, very special.
It would be nice to have somewhere to hang coats
First time using the restaurant but regular visitors over many years to the nursery. It was my wife’s birthday so I thought it would be nice to treat her to the bit of PN we had never tried. The food, there was nothing too the clam starter and left us wanting more. The duck breast was over cooked so had the taste of liver and the radicchio was under cooked. The side of potatoes was underwhelming with not trace of rosemary. The Dover sole was good as was the burrata salad. However the price determines the level of expectation and we were left with impression that the place was lovely but the food needed work.
Service in the whole was good and always friendly if not a little erratic at times.
I have been in the industry for 28 years so probably am more critical than many but I always appreciate feedback good and bad and the need to meet or exceed expectations. I also know it isn’t easy 😊
Saying goodbye to a longtime friend who was moving back to America. Lovely atmosphere and delicious food!
We go every year for Christmas - the food was the tastiest it’s been for a while, service was a little slow (had to pour our own wine!) as it was busy and distanced. Overall wonderful as ever. Will head back definitely.
Everything was gorgeous and the food was so lovely
Fabulous all round. Delicious and fun.
Service from Luca was fabulous however lady at front of house was rude and cold. Food was delicious however some elements lacked seasoning and fish was over cooked. Overall a lovely setting and meal
Fabulous food in a beautiful and atmospheric setting but what really makes this place stand out is the service. The people are so helpful and courteous, well done to them and thank you.
The food was excellent ! The only thing - wish is really really small we weren’t fussed- but the table was slanting as it was on a slope, so just may be support it differently for an even surface. Otherwise the food was excellent and the staff were the most friendly.
