What Insiders Are Saying
Want cutting edge fine dining at affordable prices? Pidgin's ambitious, experimental set menu in Hackney will set you straight.
Was the third time I've visited this restaurant and it never fails to impress me every time! Make sure to do the menu with the wine pairings!
Had a disappointing meal at Pidgin - whilst it's not outrageously expensive, the food was generally pretty uninspiring and the space is pretty painfully squashed-in. Additionally, and this is an odd thing to point out, but the bowls and plates that Pidgin uses are all terrible - unglazed and scratchy.
This is the second time I’ve been to pidgin and it was even more amazing than the first.
Exciting, original flavours, amazing atmosphere and knowledgeable, attentive service.
Another lovely evening for 6 of us this time. Warm friendly service as ever and a delicious innovative menu, always artfully presented. The joint consensus was that the dessert wasn’t the best this time, but everything else was wonderful. The menu excites and surprises.
food was so delicious and the ambiance was lovely. but we were hurried out at the end of the meal for the next group of people coming in which ended the meal in a bit of a downer. overall lovely tho.
Pidgin is one of my favourite restaurants in London. Food is always outstanding, service is good. We tried the wine pairings this time and they were spot on - as everything else. I like how Pidgin managed to keep its vibe through the years. I always look forward to is laid back vibe and amazing food.
My two sons and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the 'matched' wines, the service was extremely good as was the ambience, it was a really nice touch for one of my sons to be presented with a lit candle on his dessert; we were ther to celebrate his birthday.
I was impressed by the service and excellent quality of the food beautifully presented . A special and most enjoyable creative food experience! This restaurant is fabulous ..definitely one of the best food experiences I have ever had in the UK .
My third visit to this very special and innovative restaurant with three friends ...once again the food was creative, visually exciting and delicious. We were delighted by many unfamiliar flavour combinations. The main meat course was not to my own personal taste this week, a fatty cut of pork, but I loved everything else. We didn't take the wine tasting menu but opted for individual wines. It was a memorable evening yet again.
such a lovely meal and lovely service, the tasting menu paired with the wine was wonderfully considered
I had a wonderful time at Pidgin. The menu was a secret so I won’t dive into details, but overall flavours and textures were well balanced and order of the courses was quite smooth. Innovation was about right but would appreciate if the restaurant can dim down its emphasis on ‘oriental’ ingredients as they are quite basic across London these days. The kitchen and service staff was very nice and friendly and kudos to them and the manager for an outstanding experience. At last I have to say the home made limoncello was spectacular - not too sweet and had some good complexity. If Pidgin isn’t going to sell that limoncello then I’ll definitely come back again for it.
Had heard great things about Pidgin but was still taken slightly back by how good the food was. The service was also great- attentive yet laid back. With all the extras £49 felt like very good value for the standard of food we had. We will be back.
Amazing food and lovely staff - had such a good time. Wine pairing was good value too
Wonderful food, service and cosy atmosphere. I would say the only area for improvement is to slightly increase the size of the main course. I was left a little hungry afterwards.
Outstanding food. I have been many times and everytime I go I leave feeling amazed. Incredible menu everytime and the variety of tastes you experience is amazing. Great work and thank you so much!
Amazing food and service. A lovely dinner. Great setting - small and intimate. Delicious. Good value for high quality food.
Great food presented with style and sophistication. A little hard to get to from central London but worth the trip. A seating area for guests arriving before the table is ready is needed but I appreciate space is tight. Worthy modern cooking at its best!
One of the best tasting menus in London. The vegetarian menu was fantastic!
Were given a voucher to use at Pidgin and were excited to finally get a table booked. Unfortunately, the reality didn't live up to they hype. The food is great, the highlight was either the bread and butter (which indicates something) or the beef during the main.
But there is so little of it that we both left hungry which defeats the point of eating out. Unfulfilled is probably the best summary. If we had paid, rather than use a gift voucher, the disappointment would most definitely been amplified.
I hate writing negative reviews so I will try and be as balanced as possible. The place is very cute and our initial welcome was very warm. The cocktails were good. The food was not that interesting, lukewarm and the service was after the initial welcome very perfunctory. Wine pairing was good value. Or over your overall view is the commitment to changing the dishes every week is actually a hindrance to what could be an excellent dinner.
The food was very medicore. Service was not great.
Absolutely no complaints about our visit to Pidgin - it was stunning food in lovely surroundings and the staff are very lovely and helpful
I have been wanting to visit this restaurant for a while so had high hopes - maybe that was part of the problem, but unfortunately some of the food just fell short. The quality of the food was excellent, and the quantity was good. Some of the dishes were excellent, but some were just a bit (or a lot) wide of the mark in their conception. The standout best dish for me was a raw tuna dish with some sort of pineapple and daikon accompaniments which was delicious. Had all of the meal been of this standard, I would have said it was an extremely good value tasting menu. The standout odd dish/combination was a slab of mozzarella served with a bread sauce (yes, like a christmas bread sauce but smoother) and tempura anchovies. The combination didn't work any better in real life than you expect it to from the description! Very beige. This was followed by a small taster course of a KFC-style piece of lamb. If you think that lamb is fatty enough not to benefit from being battered you are right. Especially after a course involving tempura. I suppose it is inevitable that with a weekly changing menu where no dish has been repeated there will be some misses but as I said, I left the restaurant slightly disappointed. On the plus side I also left slightly tipsy - the beverage pairings were quite generous for the price!
Great ambience and service. Interesting food but value for money not there for a 80-90 gbp pp lunch.
My suggestion would be to increase portion sizes by 30-50% (apart for the pigeon breast, the signature dish, which was fairly sized and satisfying).
We loved the ambience for lunch but I think for dinner the place could get quite packed at full capacity.
We'll be back in a few months to check again :)
Service was outstanding and the food was delicious. So many ingredients that felt quite random but really worked. And the atmosphere is nice and laid back to enjoy your meal.
We had a lovely night at Pidgin with a very interesting tasting menu. Not my usual choices but enjoyable to try something different. Loved the mushroom dish and the little tortellini amuse bouche in broth was delicious. The pork skin spaghetti and the pidgeon course were both very creative and tasty dishes. Good service and wine list. Really delicious cocktails.
A truly wonderful dining experience. Delicious food, that didn't seem to stop coming. Beatifully presented and out of this world flavours. The staff are wonderful and tell you every detail about your food. I can't wait to go back! One of the best meals I have ever eaten.
This was our third trip to Pidgin for a family get together and it was as amazing as ever. The food is inventive and delicious (the vegetarian option as well - some of us ominvores were envious!) and the wine pairings are chosen with care. The service is friendly and flexible and I can't wait for an excuse to go back!
Pidgin went above and beyond our expectations. Having had our eye on this restaurant for over a year, an anniversary was the perfect time to visit. The food was delicious and the wine pairing was perfect. The extra additions not mentioned on the menu were lovely surprises and although it’s something to save for a special occasion due to the cost, it was worth every penny. Thankyou Pidgin, we will be back soon!
Fantastic meal, one of the best we've had in a long time. Knowledgeable staff, excellent service, thoughtful and exciting dishes that change every week. Tremendous.
Simple, fresh, delicious
Very interesting food, cosy ambience, good wine pairing.
The tastes were superb derived from cooking skills, knowledge of ingredients and their combination and sheer imagination that leave me in awe and that I could not begin to emulate.
There are restaurants which serve food that you think you could cook at home, given the time, patience and equipment. This is very much NOT one of these.
The wines were excellent too.
However, it is not cheap but good value for the superb food it serves
Oh my god! Some dishes at this restaurant literally made me cry. It’s like, “Life is so good, but everything good must end” :’’’)
It was amazing and actually really good value with all of the additional tasters between courses
Just perfect. Incredible variety of food, and probably the best meal I have ever had.
Amazing - another great visit/menu. Service excellent as ever, and the food exquisite. Never disappointed.
Amazing. Amazing. Excellent experience. Food was exceptional. We were the first to arrive and the last to leave.
Food was good, service extremely poor, aloof and rude.
Always enjoy dining here - they do innovative and exciting things with food here. Lovely, quiet place - very romantic.
