What Insiders Are Saying
Want cutting edge fine dining at affordable prices? Pidgin's ambitious, experimental set menu in Hackney will set you straight.
Incredible food in a charming restaurant in Hackney. Had a lovely neighbourhood feel and the service was excellent.
Met and exceeded expectations
Beautiful food with fresh ingredients and a great selection of drinks. We really enjoyed our time and will definitely be returning!
Phenomenal meal, staff absolutely killed it. The food was extremely focused and delicious. If you are in the area, you’d be stupid not to drop by. 10/10
Love the concept and the food was above our expectations. Really appreciated the explanation of the dishes and the care and detail out into creating then was clear. Will be back soon!
Pidgin is an incredible value, a meal that is worthy of Michelin starred restaurants at an amazingly low price. The cuisine is imaginative, with clever twists in the choice of ingredients and the techniques, as well as the provenance of the food. I can only imagine that this is a labour of love for the team there. You'd never expect to find such a gem in a quiet neighborhood like that. And, on top of that the menu changes every month, with 6+ courses and amuse-bouches and dessert treats. Even the cocktails change. One time, they made an asparagus based cocktail. Delicious, unexpected, and an illustration of their creativity. How do they do it? I can't recommend this place enough.
This is my favourite restaurant in London. Every time I go here I get surprised at the level of the food they are serving, and the casual and friendly service adds to the experience. And their drinks before dinner are amazing, I just love their gin and tonic.
Excellent food, so much effort, thought and detail. Would go again and recommend to others!
It's such an odd venue for a restaurant - in an unassuming street in Hackney. But the food is so inventive, the service so correct without being obsequious and the atmosphere so relaxed that it is truly a place that deserves to be ranked amongst the very best in London.
Amazing how Pidgin has consistently & for 4-years served inspired incredible food & wines - I have never had a bad meal or a corked glass there, it’s superb value for money, the staff & team are just total class & it’s also just a short walk up the road from me - Happy 4th Birthday.
Knowing the chef, we had high expectations. Those were exceeded early into the meal. The set menu and wine pairings make the experience easy and enjoyable. Tight space but not loud, great location away from the circus it can be in London.
We had been looking forward to our lunch at Pidgin. We were both very disappointed. The dishes tried too hard and the pork loin in particular looked as unappetizing as it tasted. The flavors were not balanced and did not work together. Perhaps who ever put the menu together had a bad week and next will be better.
We were served with no interest and were not even asked if everything was ok!
Exceeded our expectations. Every course hit the spot. Will definitely return
Fantastic food and laid back atmosphere. Service was attentive but not over the top.
Food started well but each course that arrived wasn’t quite as good as the last. Dessert was very confused. Expensive once you add wine but dishes fairly hit and miss
Art on a plate. Exquisite to look at and delectable to taste.
We were slightly worried that the outside looked like a cafe. We needn’t have worried because the food, service and everything else was top notch. Some of the food combinations blew our minds (in a good way) and gave us great talking points.
Enjoyed the whole experience and would thoroughly recommend to anyone. Parking was easy as well.
The level of service and food was not matching the price. Offering only an option of a set menu perhaps doesn’t suit the location and presentation of the restaurant.
Amazing food, every dish had so much flavour. Fantastic for gluten free.
As ever, Pidgin delights and surprises. This week’s menu is outstanding. Beautifully presented, it’s a colourful summer menu that delivers new flavour combinations and complementary textures.
We have been meaning to dine at Pidgin for the last few years...it was worth the wait as could not fault with anything.
Birthday celebration was a hit in Pidgin...I would definitely recommend this restaurant
Impeccable cooking in an intimate neighbourhood venue.
It was a great venue for a date night. We thoroughly enjoyed the set menu and it was an all round fantastic dining experience.
Pidgin goes from strength to strength. The [always new] magic the team is churning out week after week is amazing and I rarely had a sub [Pidgin] standard dish. This is important since, with the usual 1+ week that you need to book ahead, you wont know what will be on menu when you dine. As an additional bonus, you now get 6-7 courses, up from the original 4., and the price is unbeatable. Bravo!
Poetry in food. Food were beautifully crafted and presented. Each dish a delightful surprise.
Lovely friendly staff accommodated us even though we were an hour early! The restaurant was quiet and calm, they didn’t seem to rush any of the customers, creating a slow unfolding dining experience. Highly recommend.
A fantastic restaurant - a quiet setting, attentive service, incredible food and a very creative menu. Would recommend to anyone for a special occasion.
Exceptional! Fabulous staff, beautiful interior, and most of all - exceptional food! Will be back soon!
The service absolutely ruined this experience for us. We were rushed through every course and the female waitress seemed to have a severe attitude problem and was consistently rude to us. I would absolutely not recommend this restaurant to anyone. For the same price you are better to go to a known, high quality restaurant as opposed to this overpriced, tiny restaurant with decent food, a negative vibe and terrible service
Got charged £80 even though trying to cancel a day in advance I thought was shocking really gutted As I was excited to eat here but will not now .
We went for my boyfriend's birthday meal late on a Saturday night and it was the perfect way to celebrate. Delicious food and each course was carefully introduced by staff. Great place with an intimate atmosphere. Highly recommend for a special occasion!
Delicious food and excellent service.
This was my second visit to Pidgin and it was even better than the the first.
Every one of the many courses was both innovative in its content and quite delicious to eat
All of it was served with a delightful explanation and in a very professional and calm way
My request to take only a half size wine pairing was immediately agreed
A delightful experience in every way
Delicious and original food in an elegant, understated setting
Lovely restaurant. Brilliant food and wine. Great service. Will definitely go back.
Really nice and innovative food that comes painfully during the course of 2 and 1/2 hours. The venue is small and terribly noise. If you don't mind noise and long waits, the food is worth trying.
We chose the wine paring For dinner.
The food was absolutely gorgeous and really unique.
Overall dinner was a fantastic experience.
For me I would say that the service, while was good, was a very cold - my husband did not mind it, so maybe this is a personal choice?
4th time back and everytime is just as amazing as the last. Amazing food and staff. Incredible flavour combinations that you wouldn't imagine would go. Need to go back soon!
Amazing food, and attentive service. I would definitely recommend for a visit for a special occasion. Every course was a real delight from the crab morsel to start, to the fudge at the end. The skate was fantastic, the the beef with it was a real surprise package.
At Pidgin a tasting menu is the only possibility. Dishes were mostly delicious. However, the food was let down by the nature of the service which was brusque and unfriendly. We had the feeling that the staff were the most important people in the restaurant and we were being graciously allowed to dine there. Whilst we don't want to sit whilst a long lecture on the food is delivered, we did find that explanations of dishes as they were served and wine pairings were a little too rushed. As well as the food, a positive is the noise level is not too high - it's a small restaurant with only a few tables. But I wouldn't go back.
Lots of interesting ideas in the food. Some of it was baffling and just odd though. We came home after spending just short of £200 for 2 people and ate crumpets! The homemade tonic water was delicious though
