What Insiders Are Saying
Want cutting edge fine dining at affordable prices? Pidgin's ambitious, experimental set menu in Hackney will set you straight.
We chose the wine paring For dinner.
The food was absolutely gorgeous and really unique.
Overall dinner was a fantastic experience.
For me I would say that the service, while was good, was a very cold - my husband did not mind it, so maybe this is a personal choice?
4th time back and everytime is just as amazing as the last. Amazing food and staff. Incredible flavour combinations that you wouldn't imagine would go. Need to go back soon!
Amazing food, and attentive service. I would definitely recommend for a visit for a special occasion. Every course was a real delight from the crab morsel to start, to the fudge at the end. The skate was fantastic, the the beef with it was a real surprise package.
Lots of interesting ideas in the food. Some of it was baffling and just odd though. We came home after spending just short of £200 for 2 people and ate crumpets! The homemade tonic water was delicious though
Intimate, charming and delightful as always. Sublime food and wine. Special neighbourhood restaurant.
Best and most interesting food I’ve had in London for a long time, lovely atmosphere - cannot recommend highly enough!
This really was an experience, the portions were small but very satisfying and flavoursome. We were so full at the end, we struggled with the final dessert. Everything was really wonderful, the attention to detail was unexpected. The staff was open to accommodating a pescetarian, a vegetarian and even an aversion to seafood. Which is normally a struggle - but we were all very happy with what was offered in lieu.
Superb food in a relaxed and convivial environment. No problem serving one vegetarian and one standard set menu to the same table. For me, the highlight was an apparently simple dish of new peas and beans, the latter chopped into tiny pieces, served with even tinier pieces of pickled rhubarb. It sounds ridiculous but tasted of spring. Can't wait to go back to see what miracles are conjured up for future weeks' menus.
Amazing experience -my mum said this is the best menu she has ever had ! (And it wasn’t her first:))
Wonderful food, delicate flavours, beautifully prepared and served. The restaurant is a bit small and noise levels csn get up. Service is professional but rather unpersonal.
Food is outstanding. The best in London.
Pidgin is a gem, can't recommend it enough. The set menu was excellent and they were really good at adapting it to dietary requirement. Most of the dishes were pretty much perfect, with great attention to presentation, textures and balancing of flavours. I'll be coming back.
Some of the dishes were exquisite such as the pork belly and melon ice cream however others were a bit disappointing. The pastry on the pig cheek sausage roll was not buttery enough and the meat too dry not to mention that it was ridiculously tiny. The pea dish with horseradish snow was unremarkable, the flavours just didn't work.
A pleasure to go to a restaurant with such a confident identity. Excellent, interesting food, presented with real style and care. One of the vegetarian options didn’t perhaps reach the same heights, and both desert courses, whilst being delicious, mixed textures in a way that wasn’t quite our thing, but that’s only a very minor point. The staff were somewhat offhand, which was surprising as it is a very intimate space.
Pidgin is a small and unique restaurant. It is cosy and uncomplicated but the food is incredible. It was exactly what we were looking for.
Asparagus, mackerel and the second lamb dishes were outstanding. The paired wines were interesting, the Nebbiolo fantastic, but we should have shared. We drank too much! A memorable dining experience.
We thought that all of the food was truly delicious, we loved all the interesting and unique flavour combinations. The ambitious plan to reinvent the menu every week meant that some dishes were less refined than others. The restaurant itself is cosy, intimate, has really nice vibes and the staff are wonderful! Overall, we would definitely go back and recommend to anyone looking for a special evening.
Excellent creative food by artisans ...
We made a reservation and when we turned up 2 minutes before, the restaurant was closed. We waited for 10 minutes and it remained closed. We called the restaurant and there was no answer. We checked the website and social media for clues as to why it was closed and there were none. I sent an e-mail to the restaurant and 3 days ago and called them everyday since the reservation and have not had a response. I’m extremely disappointed with the lack of communication and the fact that it was unexpectedly closed with no explanation.
The best restaurant I have been to in London in 4 years. Food was great, tasty and innovative; the place is simple and quiet and the ceramic plates and bowls are very beautiful; the waitress and waiters are definitely discret and friendly. I was told it was good but it went above and beyond my expectations. For Parisian foodies : very near Chateaubriand or Septime !! When I compare to other “starred” restaurant in London I went to , difficult to understand why it lost its star. Deserves it !
Pigeon at Pidgin, brilliant & you’ve never tasted pollock like that. Looking forward to next weeks originals... The new Head Chef has really found his rhythm. Great team.
Awesome place! Amazing food, very theatrical. Quirky.
A really special meal with friends- incredible food and excellent service
This was the best tasting menu I’ve had in a long time. Amazingly cooked and presented. Just wonderful.
Great food, great service, great wines. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
Loving the new Head Chef, It’s our family local, so nothing but Love for this unique little gem...
The imagination of the Pidgin crew is beyond belief and each of their dishes holds a little surprise. Not all of them might be to everyone's liking but each one of them is a piece of art. The service and the explanations are impeccable and leave nothing open.
Attentive staff, great menu ,,catering for vegetarians and other food intolerances too. Good value for money if you like this type of dining. Will recommend it to friends for a special event
I absolutely love Pidgin. I only dock it a mark as its gone up in price since I last visited. But honestly, if you can afford it, it's worth every penny.
Delicious food, incredibly presented with really excellent service.
The set menu instantly entices you in and does not disappoint. Each dish was perfectly executed and thoroughly enjoyable.
At £49 per person, it's well priced for the excellent standard of food. Highly recommend.
I can't wait to come again. I wish I could go every week but well I am an hour away and even though it was worth every penny I couldn't spend that kind a money that often! Everything was perfectly cooked. I discovered new flavours and combinations. The veggie option taken by my partner in crime was equally exciting and fun. Lovely presentation. The biodynamic wine was a great advice, I am not one for pairings. The atmosphere has something a little Parisian. There's an intimate quality to it. Staff are busy but remain pleasant enough and very efficient. It all seemed like a very oiled machine from the peeks I threw towards the kitchen that seemed so small for that amount of people! So kudos to all of them 😉
A great place to enjoy imaginatively cooked well presented food in a relaxed modern atmosphere.
I never fail to be delighted by the imagination and quality of the cooking. The staff are also delightful and clearly take pleasure and pride in what they do. A brilliant neighbourhood restaurant, which I continue to visit even though I have moved a few miles away
Fantastic food and wine at a reasonable price point considering the quality. Lovely small Restaraunt with a nice atmosphere.
It was so good. Never been before and my brother wanted to try it out again as hes been before and we loved every minute of it.
Couple of things overlooked for our meal. We were not asked if we wanted the truffle option on our beef course prior to being served. We were told earlier on that it was available but nobody checked before we were served if we wanted which of course we did.
Langoustine dish had to go back as was missing part of meal and was slightly cold. The people sat either side of us were encroaching on our space for the whole meal also, person to my right was sat all the way round on the side of his table leaning into me. Wasn’t an enjoyable experience. Obviously the customers behaviour is out of their control but still a little bit of management or observation wouldn’t go amiss. Overall the food for the price was not up to standard in my opinion. We had dined here previously and it was outstanding but this time not so much so.
The food was very good but the portions were tiny. Four courses for £49 and I was still hungry at the end of the evening and had to have some toast when I got home. Whilst the cooking is a very high standard when I spend about £100 on a meal I don’t expect to leave feeling hungry.
Wonderful how the vegetarian dishes worked perfectly together with the other dishes on the table, it didn’t feel like they just left out the good stuff, but balanced each dish with care.
