What Insiders Are Saying
Want cutting edge fine dining at affordable prices? Pidgin's ambitious, experimental set menu in Hackney will set you straight.
Fabulous fabulous food and wonderful service. What is not to like.
Small restaurant with fixed 4 course menu without the razmatazz but premium prices at £49 plus an additional service charge. Food was interesting and flavoursome but was just a bit too foodie/trendy for my palate with most ingredients that I had never heard off.
Imaginative foods in unlikely combinations creating a transcendent taste experience. Mind blowing. Bread and “browned” butter were in themselves a new level of food that I barely knew existed. Every detail was perfect.
After all the hype, we thought it was time to visit Pidgin. The restaurant has a lovely frontage with a nice cosy interior. Foodwise, it was delicious but nothing special about it. This may be because the menu is changing every week and it doesn't allow the chef to evolve or improve the current dishes to another level. The waitress who looked after us struggled to introduce and explain the majority of the dishes and she also knocked over some of my drink and took way whatever left in the glass without offering a replacement until I had to ask for it. Overall - I will give it 7.5 out of 10.
Not as good as Salon in Brixton, but more expensive.
We love the calm at lunch time and the delicious food. Very friendly. Relaxed environment.
Superb. Creative and inspired cooking, high quality ingredients. Will definitely be back.
Overall an interesting culinary experience despite poor service. The highlight of the menu was definitely the dessert. Unfortunately the pasta in the second course, a 3 ravioli dish with a slice of tuna, was undercooked which completely ruined the dish. In addition, service was poor. Nobody asked us or showed any interest in whether we were enjoying our meal (a fairly standard practice that one would expect at any restaurant). We also got no feedback after pointing out that the pasta was undercooked. Given the price, I would not recommend the restaurant as I feel a decent level of service should have been provided to ensure an overall decent experience.
We had the vegetarian set menu and every dish was amazing! Starting from the bread which was just insane on the first bite. Portions were fine for us as the dishes were protein heavy. The toilet even has rain and thunder sounds. You can tell eveything in this restaurant was picked specifically and they were very attentive to our table. The man we had serve us really made the experince.
Beautifully food, prepared well combined with attentive and knowledgable service make a trip to Pidgin a fantastic experience
Creative dishes and delicious combinations brilliant dining experience in relaxed environment - ideal! Lovely and knowledgeable staff!
High quality, modern cuisine in a comfortable and intimate setting. Great for a special occasion.
Loved the flavours and general ethos of this restaurant. Good quality food, friendly staff. Maybe if there was a door to the back of house areas would be bette...staff was very friendly. Nice atmosphere...Could do with more intimate lighting...a little bright.
Mindblowing food, amazing drinks and great service in a lovely relaxed room. What more could you ask for?
Perhaps not quite up to its usual standard at the moment, this weeks menu proved a bit disappointing as did the service which was relatively inattentive given the amount of people in the restaurant on a Tuesday evening. Will not be attending again anytime soon which is such a shame given how brilliant I’ve heard it’s been in the past.
Excellent as ever. These guys deserve all their success.
Good food, lots of attention to detail, attentive service - excellent little neighbourhood gem. However, the basis of its charm is its unassuming location and its casual character. So: although it's good... is it "£150+ for 2 people" good...? Hm.... Tiny little portions, eye-wateringly expensive wine... I was still hungry.
Simply love it
Four courses of taste explosion, matched very well with drinks for each course. Outstanding.
Excellent food and Service. Very calm place, peaceful vibe so you are really relaxed about your meal.
Lovely! Very good food, as always and nice atmosphere, despite being the late sitting.
Super value with the Tuesday locals’ discount!
Love the vibe, relaxed and friendly. Love the G&Ts and cocktails. Food was awesome, but I am not so convinced as last time when we came in 2015. Not as wow! Anyway, it's still great and I will still recommend to all my friends.
Charming restaurant with attentive staff and delicious food. The set menu was inventive and all the extra snacks and drinks provided were a lovely touch.
Excellent well thought out meal. Well paced, fresh and interesting. Four courses plus a few extra snacks. Wine matches interesting and different. Recommended
I was blown away with the first 3 courses, plus the bread and butter before the meal was unreal. The only negative was that the dessert did not live up to the rest of the meal. It was good but compared to the other courses pretty normal. Will definitely be going back and hoping that the next time the dessert is more to my taste.
This was the second time we’ve eaten at Pidgin and it was just as memorable and delicious this time. And cooler, thanks to carefully judged air conditioning! An outstanding meal.
Our second time was as blissful as the first time - both occasions very special with old friends that we had not seen in 20 years visiting from overseas - and both we and our friends were extremely delighted. The food was excellent; a nice 4 course meal with some amuse-bouches in between and a very fitting wine pairing. The courses looked amazing and the taste would then be another delightful surprise. I found the food enormously fragrant but not overwhelmingly and the palettes were ranging subtly in each meal containing a bit of acid, sweetness, sour & salty with good bite and just the right quantities. The only thing I missed a tiny bit was spice / punch. The desert composition bold me over; cheese mouses and ice cream with an amazing texture, just amazing. Even the fresh mint tea seemed to taste better than normal. Service was also top; friendly (but not annoyingly over friendly!) and very competent - and well dressed. The whole meal was pure joy and such a contrast to the sloppy service one gets in most trendy places these days! Definitely amongst my top 5 restaurants in London and top 10 globally!
Absolutely love Pidgin! Anniversary dinners, birthday dinners, father's day... we've done them all and will continue to come back. The menu is always very innovative and exciting, keep it up guys.
uninspiring over-rated restaurant save your money and go anywhere else
Simply one of the best restaurants in London. I would recommend this over most of my Michelin star experiences.
Great menu-wine pairing was perfect. Service amazing. Had such a good time.
Every time I come here I'm so impressed. The food is amazing without fail and the wine flight is excellent. Service great too!
A bit off the beaten track but nonetheless a delightful destination for serious foodies! What a lovely experience!
The food was innovative & delicious, drinks were amazing, service lovely. Certainly not an “everyday” restaurant, but the perfect place for a special occasion!
4th time of visiting, will be going again.
Brilliant, can't be faulted.
We went to Pidgin for a birthday celebration and it didn’t disappoint. The food was well thought out and delicious. Great local restaurant with a good ambiance
Pidgin is one of the best places I have ever eaten. It's so incredibly creative and surprising!
They have a new menu every week; they deliver every single time.
Me and my boyfriend went there 2 days ago to celebrate our anniversary, there were two main ingredients on the menu he's not fond of, but he absolutely loved everything despite not daring getting close to cucumber or bananas usually!
If there's ever place to be open-minded and allow yourself to be served whatever delightful options the chefs recommend, it's here.
Absolutely recommend to everyone!
Food was superb - service was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Wouldn’t hesitate to go back again.
Nothing terribly wrong here - just coming in at a totally unjustifiable price point. Much better value to be had elsewhere for your £49. They have a new menu every week; they need to settle on some core dishes and not experiment with everything - dishes lacked cohesion.
A truly outstanding meal. So much effort, the right amount of food with each course a surprise and so beautifully presented. You have to put your trust in the chef when you can’t pick the food but that trust is well rewarded here.
