What Insiders Are Saying
Want cutting edge fine dining at affordable prices? Pidgin's ambitious, experimental set menu in Hackney will set you straight.
We thought that all of the food was truly delicious, we loved all the interesting and unique flavour combinations. The ambitious plan to reinvent the menu every week meant that some dishes were less refined than others. The restaurant itself is cosy, intimate, has really nice vibes and the staff are wonderful! Overall, we would definitely go back and recommend to anyone looking for a special evening.
Excellent creative food by artisans ...
We made a reservation and when we turned up 2 minutes before, the restaurant was closed. We waited for 10 minutes and it remained closed. We called the restaurant and there was no answer. We checked the website and social media for clues as to why it was closed and there were none. I sent an e-mail to the restaurant and 3 days ago and called them everyday since the reservation and have not had a response. I’m extremely disappointed with the lack of communication and the fact that it was unexpectedly closed with no explanation.
The best restaurant I have been to in London in 4 years. Food was great, tasty and innovative; the place is simple and quiet and the ceramic plates and bowls are very beautiful; the waitress and waiters are definitely discret and friendly. I was told it was good but it went above and beyond my expectations. For Parisian foodies : very near Chateaubriand or Septime !! When I compare to other “starred” restaurant in London I went to , difficult to understand why it lost its star. Deserves it !
Pigeon at Pidgin, brilliant & you’ve never tasted pollock like that. Looking forward to next weeks originals... The new Head Chef has really found his rhythm. Great team.
Awesome place! Amazing food, very theatrical. Quirky.
A really special meal with friends- incredible food and excellent service
This was the best tasting menu I’ve had in a long time. Amazingly cooked and presented. Just wonderful.
Great food, great service, great wines. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
Loving the new Head Chef, It’s our family local, so nothing but Love for this unique little gem...
The imagination of the Pidgin crew is beyond belief and each of their dishes holds a little surprise. Not all of them might be to everyone's liking but each one of them is a piece of art. The service and the explanations are impeccable and leave nothing open.
Attentive staff, great menu ,,catering for vegetarians and other food intolerances too. Good value for money if you like this type of dining. Will recommend it to friends for a special event
I absolutely love Pidgin. I only dock it a mark as its gone up in price since I last visited. But honestly, if you can afford it, it's worth every penny.
Delicious food, incredibly presented with really excellent service.
The set menu instantly entices you in and does not disappoint. Each dish was perfectly executed and thoroughly enjoyable.
At £49 per person, it's well priced for the excellent standard of food. Highly recommend.
I can't wait to come again. I wish I could go every week but well I am an hour away and even though it was worth every penny I couldn't spend that kind a money that often! Everything was perfectly cooked. I discovered new flavours and combinations. The veggie option taken by my partner in crime was equally exciting and fun. Lovely presentation. The biodynamic wine was a great advice, I am not one for pairings. The atmosphere has something a little Parisian. There's an intimate quality to it. Staff are busy but remain pleasant enough and very efficient. It all seemed like a very oiled machine from the peeks I threw towards the kitchen that seemed so small for that amount of people! So kudos to all of them 😉
A great place to enjoy imaginatively cooked well presented food in a relaxed modern atmosphere.
I never fail to be delighted by the imagination and quality of the cooking. The staff are also delightful and clearly take pleasure and pride in what they do. A brilliant neighbourhood restaurant, which I continue to visit even though I have moved a few miles away
Fantastic food and wine at a reasonable price point considering the quality. Lovely small Restaraunt with a nice atmosphere.
It was so good. Never been before and my brother wanted to try it out again as hes been before and we loved every minute of it.
Couple of things overlooked for our meal. We were not asked if we wanted the truffle option on our beef course prior to being served. We were told earlier on that it was available but nobody checked before we were served if we wanted which of course we did.
Langoustine dish had to go back as was missing part of meal and was slightly cold. The people sat either side of us were encroaching on our space for the whole meal also, person to my right was sat all the way round on the side of his table leaning into me. Wasn’t an enjoyable experience. Obviously the customers behaviour is out of their control but still a little bit of management or observation wouldn’t go amiss. Overall the food for the price was not up to standard in my opinion. We had dined here previously and it was outstanding but this time not so much so.
The food was very good but the portions were tiny. Four courses for £49 and I was still hungry at the end of the evening and had to have some toast when I got home. Whilst the cooking is a very high standard when I spend about £100 on a meal I don’t expect to leave feeling hungry.
Wonderful how the vegetarian dishes worked perfectly together with the other dishes on the table, it didn’t feel like they just left out the good stuff, but balanced each dish with care.
The food was dissapointing. I expected more wow factor with the food and only one course did I get that. Otherwise it was forgettable.
Small 25 seater neighbourhood restaurant serving good food, well considered dishes that are beautifully presented. On the whole service was attentive and knowledgable though a little expensive
Simply great on all levels. The food was amazing and the wine pairing simply outstanding.
Third time eating at Pidgin. Consistently good, and there are always one or two exceptional standout dishes. Excellent value.
Overpriced for what it is. We left feeling hungry and a bit out of pocket.
Fine dining without pretentiousness. Warm and cosy settings, impeccable service and the food... just bursting with flavours textures and tastes.
The whole point of eating here is that every mouthful of food will surprise you.
Everything was wonderful, amazing food and staff !
Food was very innovative and some dishes were quite superlative. However, the service we experienced was only functional at best and far below levels we have experienced here before. The single toilet was out of operation and guests had to walk to the nearest pub to use their facilities. Why didn’t they call out an emergency plumber, and why weren’t guests given some sort of recompense. Seems like they were only interested in maintaining their high prices.
Delicious and attentive.
This was my second visit to Pidgin and I will be back again. The welcome is friendly and they always have some interesting drinks to start - I had the cocktail of the week a "Pineapple Express" which hit the right balance between the kick of alcohol and fruitiness. The set menu was innovative and contained some top class cooking. Dishes show high technical skills with great combinations of ingredients and flavours. We went for the wine pairing which included interesting lesser known wines that went well with the dishes. Service is friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. We had a great lunch and it gets a big recommendation from us.
Very much an experience! Good wine and cocktail list too.
This place offers extraordinary culinary experiences. The food is prepared to perfection—you will taste some of the most fascinating combinations. It’s a dinner I will remember for a long time. The ambience is wonderful and the staff very polite and accommodating. Cannot recommend this place enough.
Impeccable & seamless
Food was delicious, best pannacotta I have ever eaten!!!!
Service was great too, with explaining each course. Although felt a little rushed and that we couldn't hang around.
fantastic restaurant. was my my second visit. will definitely be back.
Standard of food seemed to have lowered since the last time we were there and felt overpriced for what it was. Service was great though, really attentive. And that butter they serve with bread is delicious!!
