Pig & Whistle Restaurant
Ambience beautiful warm and cosy.
We enjoyed our food but found that the younger members of staff were not as aware of the customers as they could be.
Example, we were seated in good time but not asked what we would like to drink until we had spent 10 minutes looking at the menu.
We noticed a couple next to us were also trying to get the attention of staff to pay and were left quite some time as were we.
Just a few tweaks as everything else was lovely, it would not put us off coming back but hope our observations are not ignored.
Another exceptional evening at the Pig. Brendan and Justin are fabulous hosts, always focused on customer service. The food, service and ambiance was wonderful.
Pig and Whistle is a wonderful place for any occasion from a simple lunch with friends to a special Valentines night out
The welcome is always warm and genuine and the service excellent every time
Matched by the quality and presentation of the food and the friendly chats with the owner.
This is a lovely place to spend a few hours enjoying a great meal.
When you step through the door there is always a warm welcome. The food is outstanding, lots of variety and cooked to perfection. We have dined previously as a couple, a family Sunday lunch and with friends. But this time was for Valentines and it ticked all the boxes. Very intimate with background music and service that wasn’t intrusive. The menu was a set price with lots of choice, so even for the fussiest eater you will find something to tantalise those taste buds. Then to top the evening off when leaving was given a red rose.
I love the Pig and Whistle the food staff and atmosphere is excellent can not wait to go again would recommend to anyone its so romantic its just lovely
Really lovely meal, great service and atmosphere! Would definitely go back.
As ever, Brendan and the team are so warm and welcoming. The food was outstanding - what a fillet steak and sauce, we both had. I don't think we can ever tire of this place and the quality of the food and service. The Chef is a culinary wizard! The finest "fine dining" in Essex, without being pretentious.
Had lovely evening couldnt fault anything. It was a special treat
Very good food. Relaxed but professional.
Perfect place to celebrate my parents 55th wedding anniversary. Food was beautiful. Service fantastic atmosphere cosy and candle lit and as usual a great personal service from the owner and a bottle of fizz for my parents. All in all we had a smashing time x
Another five star meal
Would totally recommend
Just a wonderful place to go for an excellent Sunday lunch with superb customer service
Food was amazing. Service was fantastic. An overall great dining experience. Will definitely go back again soon!
Me and my partner had dinner here for our anniversary. We had an amazing time! It is such a beautiful place, its cosy, romantic, quirky, picturesque the whole package! The service is second to none, the owner is such a lovely person, we were looked after so well, the food is amazing, amazing doesn't cut it to be honest how this place doesn't have a Michelin star is beyond us! Thank you to all the staff at the pig and Whistle who gave us such a lovely evening, we cannot wait to come back!
Wonderful food but terrible service. Our waitress was very rude to us and clearly wanted to go home. We were celebrating a very special birthday which I feel had been tainted by the poor service.
Good food good atmosphere, staff were attentive and we really enjoyed the meal we will be returning
Lovely food and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Always had a good meal there. Last time they were understaffed so it was very slow but they remained professional even though up against it
Most of the food good but all 3 'crispy' squid undercooked, soggy, flaby and no colour. Sunday lunch mains good but extra charged for side dishes other than potatoes cabbage and carrots. Service poor. There FAR too long, 4 hours in total!! Very long wait between starters and mains. Seemed to get tables muddled as those who arrived after us and with similar 3 courses to received mains before. There are pubs that do this better on a Sunday. Probably wouldn't trek there again unless in area.
We had an amazing evening! Would definitely recommend.
Fantastic food served in a unhurried style
Excellent food lovely setting and brilliant staff A bit expensive but well worth it for a special occasion
Outstanding meal and service on Sunday. The fact the staff remember you and add the personal touch is great. Look forward to seeing you again soon
We went for Sunday roast choosing the two course option. The meat and vegetables were cooked to perfection, home made Yorkshire’s absolutely delicious and the portions were generous. Deserts were great too. The staff were lovely and the atmosphere was nice and relaxing. Definitely will be returning. Highly recommend.
Lovely restaurant, friendly and attentive staff, unfortunately, food not up to standard. Partner ordered the duck which was pleasing to the eye, but was tough and flavourless. My fillet wasn't worth £28. Staff were very professional can't fault them.
Just the best place to go. Food absolutely brilliant. Service great. Lovely people.
Excellent food and very friendly and helpful staff totally recommend
Came here for Sunday dinner after being able to book online just the day before. Literally in the middle of nowhere... What a great surprise this place is. Great hosts, great food. Only question is...how on earth isn't it fully booked up days or weeks in advance?
Couldn’t fault the food or service.....would highly recommend :) I had roast beef, absolutely delicious, had the chocolate mousse for dessert, which wasn’t too rich and very tasty. My partner had beef also and sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was equally as nice! Our waitress was very friendly. Do need to book as it’s a really popular place
We were shown to our table immediately when we arrived, drinks order taken and lunch menu provided straightaway.
We didn't have starters but the mains order arrived very promptly and was really delicious.
Similarly our desserts order was taken and arrived very promptly. At no time did we feel rushed, in fact our waiter recommended we take our time over the dessert as it was so full of chocolate.
The waiter and the other members of staff were very friendly and really did make us feel important to them.
Fabulous time, would thoroughly recommend 'the Pig and Whistle '
Fantastic intimate restaurant with great service, the setting & decor are beautiful and food is always first class, please give this award winning restaurant a try you will not be disappointed in the least, thank you once again
Sunday Roast was amazing!
This is one of my favourite restaurants in Chelmsford, they have done a fantastic job in re decorating the venue but still retaining the historic character.
The service is always friendly and impeccable and their Sunday roasts are superb. The meat they serve is well cooked and very tender. Servings are also very generous and the vegetables are also lovely.
Can not recommend this place highly enough.
Disappointed have been there many times but this time service poor lack of attention to dinners things not up to usual standard we expect at P& W
We were slightly late for our booking but we still received a very warm welcome. The restaurant was beautifully decorated, staff really friendly and food excellent.
Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
Had to ask for bread rolls as we weren’t offered any by waiters.
Food excellent although no veg included and again weren’t offered any.
Steak fantastic but a bit pricey at £28
Overall what we did have was excellent
From the moment you arrive you feel welcomed into the restaurant. The food was fantastic as was the wine and service. One of the best steaks I have had and the mushroom sauce was wonderful as were the perfectly cook vegetables. Overall a great restaurant that I would highly recommend.
A beautiful restaurant, with great food and fantastic service. Totally relaxing.
Wonderful food beautiful restaurant
After many people saying what exceptional food, we booked but were so disappointed. First they had run out of some of the sharing platter so had made it up with extra croquets, without asking if we would like to order something else. Then the pork chop was so dry and hard, neither of the two people in our party could get their knifes through it to cut it. I will also add this was lunch time 1.30 and only three other tables where seated
Had high expectations and these were not met, I wouldn’t recommend which is a shame. Service was sloppy and food was tasteless
