Pig & Whistle Restaurant
Great food and attention to detail however wasn’t asked if we wanted any water and didn’t offer any side bread etc
Already recommended to other family members
As usual a fantastic meal and service
Always a lovely experience
Over priced for what it is. Mis-mash of table and chairs. Some too low and slim. Irish waiter worked hard and very friendly & helpful. Dont have the Eton mess unless you like half a strawberry chopped on a plate with half a teaspoon of sauce topped with a few ice gem shaped meringues. Worst one ive had.
Dear Stuart Mizon. I find your review a little far fetched. Sir. I am the person that served you. I am yes Irish and actually the owner. Sir I find your review offensive. Let’s get straight to the facts. It was very embarrassing for me upon the night to serve you. You were constantly on your phone throughout the night in and out the front door like somebody with ants in their pants. I actually had to entertain your wife. You thanked me and said you both had a lovely meal. Charming sir.
Have dined here several times and always enjoyed a 5 star experience. However, really disappointed this time. Quality of food still very good but portion sizes appeared small, menu also seemed to have changed with less choice unless you like fish front of house and service generally not great.
Has something changed?
Dear Martin. Can you give me a call at the restaurant to discuss this . We would like to see you back and always delighted to discuss how we can get it right. Kind regards Ben.
Our 2nd time here, with friends so looking to make an impression, and it was even better than last time when we gave them 10/10. Need I say more?
We've been meaning to try the Pig attentive and welcoming. The food was fresh and of the highest standard, plus all the dishes were presented beautifully. The ambience was quiet and relaxing, but would expect the noise levels to be higher at a busier time. All in all a great experience and birthday celebration.
The food was acceptable but the welcome and the service were cold and read from the script. I was a regular customer at the Pig and Whistle some years ago and the atmosphere was warm, welcoming and friendly, hence my disappointment. I will not return.
Dear Patrick. We are sorry to hear a staff member was not up to our normal quality. Can you please call me to discuss this so we can look after you. Kind regards. Ben
Very enjoyable evening at an out of the way restaurant. The staff could not be more accommodating and the setting was excellent. The food, by and large, was good however my pork main course was a little over cooked which spoilt an otherwise great evening. The people who were with me said their food was excellent. A tad on the expensive side but once in a while you don't mind paying the cost for a lovely evening.
Not my first time and definitely not my last
Service very good, helpful with food recommendations and unlike other restaurants have a good understanding of what’s on there menu.
Visit and enjoy.
An excellent meal. It was really quiet at lunch time. A few more people would have created a better atmosphere. Food was top notch though.
Have been to Pig and Whistle many times and have never been disappointed. Cannot recommend it highly enough.
First visit. Food, service, everything superb! Will be back
Lovely as ever, not our first visit but we do keep coming back. Wonderful food, great location, and excellent service! Staff make your visit special and the Sunday roasts with all the trimmings are just delicious! Again, we shall return.
Mega service great views and a good selection for family Sunday lunch
This was our fIrst visit for a couple of years ( we are visitors from New Zealand) and were most impressed by the change of dining concept.
The service received was thoroughly professional and all of our party enjoyed the overall occasion.
My husband and I had an amazing meal at the Pig and Whistle and were very well looked after by Brendon. The food, service and ambiance were all amazing.
The owner, Ben, and his staff are friendly and very helpful. We didn’t have to wait for anything. The food was excellent. The calamari and baby octopus were soft and succulent, beautifully cooked and very tasteful. The pan fried cod also outstanding. Don’t miss the desserts. Share a Pig & Whistle assiette to try each dessert. Excellent experience.
We have eaten here several times and the food is always of a good quality.
The service had always previously been exemplary but it was a bit lacking this time. I don’t take too kindly to the wine list being thrown on the table after requesting to seeing it, nor being given the wrong Bill and having no time to check the correct Bill when it was delivered. It’s the little things.....
What a pleasant surprise..a very unassuming exterior but a gem inside. Beautiful French styled interior. Sunday lunch was superb..3 courses set. Nice gin menu too!
Been to the Pig and Whistle may time always great food and great service
My husband and I had a delicious lunch here last Friday, surprisingly we were the only diners but I'm sure the service would have been equally good if there were other visitors. We started with the Pig and Whistle sharing board and this was followed by fillet steak ( perfectly cooked) for my husband and I had the pan fried cod with champagne sauce which was outstanding.
In addition the extensive choice of gins was a pleasant bonus.
We will definitely be returning.
Couldn’t fault a single thing from the moment we walked in service, food & ambience was outstanding, without doubt one of the best restaurants in Essex
Found the food very nice and staff were lovely. A very beautiful little place out in the country. Would recommend friends and family to go to the Pig and Whistle.
Great service - went above and beyond. Thank you!!
Wonderful meal for Father’s Day.
Was great to be able to share my favourite restaurant with my parents who’ve never been before.
Love the goody bag at the end too - such a nice touch!
Lovely meal again
Fabulous food. Great service and a beautiful venue. Absolutely nothing bad to say.
This is one of my favourite restaurants in Chelmsford. The building it is situated in has so much character, is fantastic the way they have applied stylish but complementary decor.
More importantly the Sunday roasts they serve are brilliant that meat v good quality and cooked do nice and tender.
I also appreciate the high level of friendly service. Cannot recommenced highly enough.
We had a lovely first experience, staff were welcoming, food lovely, service good and atmosphere welcoming and relaxed. We can’t wait to return x well done and keep up the good work. Saw the Resturant advertised in Essex life I think
We will be going back again. Liked the menu. A friendly atmosphere.
Choice was for Sunday Lunch, choosing the beef roast for all 4 guests. It did state served pink. There was three very thin slices and gravy was rich in either wine or a herb added a little too rich for some of us. The Yorkshire’s were over cooked and a little too brown and dry.
Not I’m afraid the best roast for the money we have had in the Pig and Whistle in the past.
Pudding however was sticky toffee and custard or ice cream which was delicious.
Unreal food and service will 100 percent be back. Couldn’t fault a thing.
The service and overall experience is always very good .. relaxed atmosphere but high end food , Ben knows his wines and the whole team make you feel welcome and is just a good place to spend an evening ..
Again, what can I say, the food was to its usual high standard, the service impeccable.
The menu has plenty of choice, one day I will get to try one of the sharing platters, the garlic and chilli prawns called to my husband, but it was a close call with the scallops. So I had the goats cheese and beetroot arancini, I wasn’t disappointed.
The herb crusted Pork lion was delicious, he had the steak, his favourite.
In all a pleasant evening with very enjoyable food.
Great place! Consider it for special occasions as well as for gourmet dinners.
What a lovely place to eat first time I have been to the pig and whistle very nice would recommend to all family friends and any one else who I talk to such nice friendly staff food was hot and very enjoyable thank you for s nice evening
This is one of my all time restaurants, up there with Cliff in Barbados. Unique quirky little place with super friendly staff and fabulous food
Disappointed with the fact that the food hygiene rating was only 4, expected 5 considering the expense of everything. the food was ok, not great, music too loud and didnt really enjoy the evening. We have been there before around a year ago, it was very good then, really not impressed this time
Quaint county pub exterior belies a very smart restaurant within.
Nice menu; food good; service attentive, without being overbearing. Had a very nice lunch here and saw no reason why it wouldn't be any different on another visit.
Recommend it for any celebration, occasion, or just a top-notch, mid-range meal.
Visited on a Sunday evening, so roast dinners all round. Food was very nice, great atmosphere and the staff were very polite and friendly.
