Pig & Whistle Restaurant
Took my wife out to Easter Sunday lunch after hearing good reports on this restaurant.Staff very friendly and welcoming.A three course menu at set price was on offer at £35.00 per head
We had a starter and roast beef main.
Didn't feel up to a sweet so just asked for the bill.We were still charged for the three course meal plus our one drink each.Bill came to £83.65 .Very expensive for a very ordinary roast dinner. Not very impressed.
Sorry for the poor review but felt disappointed. thanks
The food is so tasty and well presented. I enjoyed my Easter Day lunch very much and I will be eating there again. In my opinion this is the best restaurant in Essex.
On what must be our sixth visit to this wonderful restaurant, we opted for afternoon tea which included a choice from their vast Gin and Tonic menu and a glass of Prosesco. Not your average afternoon tea .... creamed mushrooms on toast, smoked salmon and a slice of bacon jam sausage roll; accompanied by a choice of cheese and white chocolate scones, delicious mini homemade cakes finished by a lemon and black currant posset. The decor, ambiance and service here is outstanding.
Firstly the food was amazing one of the best roast dinners I've ever had! Above all though the service was second to none! They couldn't do enough for you I was really impressed.
I have had Sunday lunch here before and it was excellent, however, this time it was Luke warm and service much slower so not at the same standard
We love the Pig and Whistle. The decor and ambience is lovely and the food delicious. I would definitely recommend this lovely restaurant to friends and relatives as the staff are so friendly and welcoming.
Great service, intimate venue without being too quiet. The food was amazing: the salmon was perfectly cooked and the pea puree with the ham hock terrine sublime. I was very pleased to go with the gin recommendation from the waitress and not disappointed. The assiette of desserts was mind blowing. The only slight dissaoppointment was the cheese board which was a little bland. Will definitely come back again.
Lovely restaurant, great service and great food. Offered extra vegetables with the roast.
The service was impeccable and the atmosphere really nice. The food was good and the owners were keen to get our feedback. Our first visit and we will definitely return.
Really quaint setting, lovely lovely food! The service was faultless and we received a little bag of homemade sweets when we left. Really couldn’t recommend the Pig and Whistle any more highly. We had a really great evening!
Warm welcome, good service and good food will defiantly return and would recomend.
Loved loved loved the Pig and Whistle - food was fantastic , lovely atmosphere and fab customer service. Just brilliant! We will be back
took mum there for lunch,it was was very cozy,,and pretty much perfect for a chat with someone you dont see maybe as much as you should,,,thank you.
Was not what I was expecting after looking at the website, not the bistro styled restaurant I expected. Similar to Blue Strawberry in Chelmsford but not as good. Service was extremely slow and notably ineffective. Food was ok but rather forgettable. Left feeling quite disappointed and for me a sign of a good restaurant / good experience is when when paying the bill you either feel you have had good value for money or you feel a little hard done by. On this occasion, not only did I feel hard done by a lackluster evening but somewhat robbed.
amazing food as always. great place would recommend to anyone, cant wait to go back
Table 20 has a screen at the end of the table behind that is a hatch which has been filled with thin ply wood, all we heard for the next two hours was the sound of the dishwasher working, the loading/unloading/washing the dishes.
This is an amazing restaurant, service is perfect and the food is wonderful. I would recommend to anyone.
A great discovery and a lovely place to dine for couples or small groups. Food was outstanding and service was attentive but not intrusive. The only let down was the state of the very stained red chairs!
Still has the appearance of a pub. Older style decor but tastefully done. . excellent service, friendly and not over bearing and very patient. The food was very good. Tasty and very well presented. Modern style. Would recommend.
We have been here a few times and the ambience and service is lovely .The food is outstanding the only thing we missed was not having the carvery on the Sunday which was what we were looking forward to please bring it back
Lovely food, good menu selection. Service was good but slow (we waited nearly an hour for starters) but to be fair this was due to it being very bust. Would definitely return.
Brilliant having this restaurant on our doorstep. Everyone enjoyed their dinner - the cheddar and cauliflower soup was to die for!!
Ambience just right and the staff were very personable.
The restaurant has a warm atmosphere from the moment of entering. The decor is eclectic and interesting but smart ... with tablecloths.
The food was excellent. The service was superb and we booked to return for Sunday lunch.
Pudding was superb. We had the assiete and every morsel was mouthwatering.
Upon leaving we were handed a little bag with homemade sweet treats in ... a lovely touch and very delicious.
A super find and we hope Sunday lunch will be just as impressive.
Had heard very good things about the restaurant, we were greeted on arriving & were shown to our table , but had to wait 10-15 minutes for a drink, even with the restaurant being half empty, food was nice , but not exceptional, table was quite tight on space for wine water glasses etc, not sure I would return
Fantastic food as always. Service was not as slick as it usually is - we had to wait a good 5 minutes before we were given menus on arrival.
My wife and I enjoyed a fantastic 3 course Sunday lunch here. The service was great and we were made to feel very welcome.
Brilliantly presented food and lovely tasting! Will be back again to try out some of the rest of the menu
Sunday lunch with friends. The food was lovely, Sunday roast was a generous portion. The cheesecake for dessert was delicious .
Always on point with the food an ambience.
We waited a while for our mains to arrive, and when it did it was wrong (well, 3/5 plates were) so they had to cook the correct order. The head waiter came over and told us we would only need to pay for drinks which was a shock to us as we didn’t expect it at all. We pushed to pay for the food but not the end but he was adamant so we only paid for the drinks. Very generous given the mistake was not that huge but I think he appreciates the fact that we had waited quite a while in the end.
We will be back. If you’ve never visited, go on a Sunday for the roast - it is pretty awesome.
We enjoyed a very good Sunday Roast at the Pig & Whistle. The beef was exceptional, very tasty and came with a good selection of accompaniments. We were made to feel very welcome and although the service was slow at times, the cosy atmosphere made up for it.
So glad we chose to go to the Pig & Whistle for Sunday Lunch. The food was great but more importantly the staff were well above expectations, making the experience one to remember.... Thank you
Good quality nice food very good service and lovely surroundings quite a run out for us but worth it!
I loved this restaurant. The food is incredible and the staff very friendly, knowledgeable and able to recommend delicious wines and menu options. Couldn't praise this restaurant high enough
Excellent food and service, took my husband there for a birthday treat
Wow, what can I say, the whole experience was amazing! Our food was outstanding, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was wonderful! We will definitely return and would highly recommend!!
Excellent evening out to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Brendan and his team can be very proud of the P&W . They were welcoming, the menu choice was excellent and the meals were superb. Service was top notch but never "over the top"
Made to feel very welcome when we arrived, great service and lovely food. Will be back.
Fantastic Sunday Roast , Highly recommended we will try to book again as the whole menu was amazing , Thankyou Carl
Could not recommend more highly
Just perfect and great food
We have been visiting The Pig & Whistle for several years now and have never been disappointed. Always a warm welcome, a cosy and relaxed atmosphere and great food and wine. Would highly recommend a visit to Brendan and the team.
Our first visit and could not fault.. would thoroughly recommend a visit and cannot wait to come back.
