Pig & Whistle Restaurant
Sunday: 12:00 - 19:00
Venue perfect, very warm welcome. Actually made us two tables as I had specifically asked to be seated outside. With had a second table when we wanted to come inside.
Spectacular views. Superb menu, the food was delicious. Staff were very helpful and attentive we will definitely return soon
I was really looking forward to going here as I had read the reviews before hand which were very good. Unfortunately it didn't start well, as the door was locked when we arrived it was 6.05pm we had booked online for 6pm if you can't make the time till 6.30pm don't put 6pm it was a push for us to get there on time and to find the door lock wasn't great.Once in things got off ok,the food was very good but the service was very slow.We ordered another round of drinks and he only bought half the order I had to ask another waiter for the other half. When the bill came we had been over charged for double the amount of drinks the waitress who came over was helpful and gave us a revised bill although no one came to take the money and we had to go up to the bar to pay and they had the cheek to put a 10% service charge on which they didn't deserve.Very disappointing and expensive.
Great restaurant, set in a lovely location with friendly staff and delicious food - I’d highly recommend and I have already booked to return.
The food was amazing, and the staff were lovely. Would definitely be coming back.
Food great service good but waited too long for bill after asking for it. Also very warm in restaurant no fans or air con but overall very good evening.
Superb afternoon tea, focused on savoury instead of the normal sweet which was a refreshing change and very much enjoyed
2nd visit and we were not disappointed friendly welcome attentive staff excellent can't recommend enough food is amazing we will be back thanks Brendan and team
The best food we've had in a long time and will be returning soon
Really lovely birthday meal! Food was outstanding and service was really good but needed more people!! Loved the way the chefs came out to ask our opinions - would definitely come back
Fantastic food and a great atmosphere. A really good local restaurant
Great as ever - service, food and the wonderful ambience makes this a must visit resturant. I'm my opinion definitely in the top 3 in Essex
Staff couldn't do enough for you, afternoon tea had some creative touches making it different to the usual sandwiches & cakes. Waiting staff and kitchen staff all very friendly and made the visit pleasant. Outdoor seating area is lovely, a great sun trap with brilliant countryside views. Lots of parking and inside decorated beautifully.
The food was not nice and defiantly not worth the money
Very expensive for what it is
Carvery was so over cooked
Tony carvery is much better for quarter of the price
Everything was perfect. We have eaten there before, so was a little surprised when my sons starter of soup was served with the top half of a burger bun and I had the bottom part. Not really what I expected from such a high class restaurant . A bit disappointed.
We were greeted with a lovely warm welcome
The starter was lovely but two of our mains were barely warm
They took ages to take our order for desert
After that it went down hill from then
Would go back but not to soon
Really lovely meal as usual - disappointed there was a set menu and we were not told when booked or even when they phoned near the time asking for a deposit- pricey for my 4 year old that only ate a piece of bread for £20.
As usual, all excellent.
Recently found this restaurant - food us amazing, friendly staff . You pay for what you get. Yes on the pricey side but food is worth it . Everyone needs a treat once in a while - treat yourselves .
Lovely restaurant with great food and friendly and attentive service
Excellent service and fantastic food! Gorgeous views of the Essex countryside
What a wonderful restaurant, tucked away in this beautiful village of Chignal Slealey in Essex , near Chelmsford. The ambiance, the food, the service and the whole experience was superb. It was a birthday treat for my wife and she absolutely adored the quirky decor, the attentive service and the amazing food. We had the best steaks we have had for a long time and the fresh local produce and the presentation of the food was exquisite. Everything about this celebratory meal was memorable in the best way possible. Will definitely be heading back there whenever we have another special occasion to celebrate.
The ambience, the charm of the place and the staff are fantastic! Made you feel like you instantly want to go back! Such nice people with amazing food! Couldn’t be more accommodating! Highly Recommended!
The service was top quality and the food was even better
The Sunday roast was very nice, we had the carvery, but what makes this place is the wonderful views when you sit in the garden area, and the staff, they are amazing, so friendly, polite and helpful, honestly I dine out a lot & this place from a staffing point of view is head & shoulders above many places, all in all a great way to spend a Sunday.
Exceptional as always staff top class menu excellent
Was made most welcome, great booking online, little bit pricey but worth it. Staff was very friendly, but not too intrusive. Lovely experience, will go again. Thank you .
excellent from start to finish - no other words required!
Fantastic food and fantastic service. It was really refreshing to be able to have a meal and a conversation without feeling that you are being rushed to finish. The food was stunning, really tasty and beautifully presented. The staff were really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
Would definitely go again.
Lovely staff and food in a rural setting. Local smoked fish starter was delicious.
Lovely place, lovely food, staff were polite but service was very slow - it seemed that they might have been under staffed?
Food was very good would come again
Carvery good 2of the party thought the turkey was tough . I think that veg and gravy is out to long as it was warm and not piping hot. But it wouldn't stop me from coming again.
Disappointing after a recommendation for Sunday roast. Toby carvery offer better quality for a fraction of the price!
Meat was nice, but trimmings were all average, no crisp on the potatoes or Yorkshire’s. No pigs in blankets as advertised.. veg was bland.
Service very unaccomodating, only 1 lager on tap..
Not bad enough to complain- think this is just their usual standards, but when asked we were truthful and said we thought it wasn’t great, yet no response or action to rectify.
Not great for £20!!
I bought my partner here for his birthday. We both had never been before but had heard good things about it. I could not recommend enough.. the staff were very welcoming and helpful .. the place had a lovely feel to it and the food was just amazing! We will definitely be returning:)
Nice place and lovely welcome. Service was smooth and efficient. Lovely feel/atmosphere throughout. We had Sunday carvers and it was fine though think we arrived near the end of it so got sense might have been even better had we eaten earlier. Desserts were fabulous. Would definitely try Pig and Whistle again.
Absolutely brilliant , bacon jam is the best
The staff went above and beyond to make our experience special. Definitely recommend
One of the best Restraunt’s I have visited keep on doing what your doing
Beautiful food, everyones meal was really special. We were even treated to some homemade chocolate with the bill as the chef was experimenting. Excellent choice of gins as well. All in all an excellent meal that I would recommend to friends in future.
Booked the Pig & Whistle for a carvery to celebrate a family birthday, had a lovely time, food is excellent, service was amazing (nothing was to much trouble). All in all we had a great time and created and cherished memory. Will definitely be going back....
Great gin menu very helpful with 7 month old grandson . Great birthday plate
