Welcome to Pompette, a new French bistro restaurant by Laura and Pascal Wiedemann. We serve classic French dishes made with quality ingredients, offer fine wines by the glass, or classic cocktails and charcuterie in our cosy bar. We look forward t welcoming you.
Dined at Pompette to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary. What a treat. Started off with a couple of Dorset bubbles in the bar. Lovely buzz in the restaurant. The food was really delicious, service attentive but very relaxed. Will definitely be back. Thank you
It was our first visit and we will most definitely be returning. Warm welcome and excellent hosting from Laura who was an absolute delight. Wonderfully engaging, knowledgeable and genuinely enthusiastic about the food and wine on offer. We had a wonderfully relaxed evening with yummy food and very good wines by the glass.
A varied menu with excellent wine list! We enjoyed a mixture of delicious starters and main courses accompanied by a lovely fruity red wine. It was rather busy and noisy as a consequence, in particular the table behind us who needed to shout rather than talk to each other! The fullness of the restaurant also slowed the service down but gave us a breather between courses! However, it was an enjoyable experience and we will return!
A nice restaurant (Bistro) that I have been to on several occasions. The food and wine are good. Good service. It was a cold evening when we went and the restaurant was a bit cool otherwise no complaints. Pleasant helpful staff.
we enjoyed our meal very much, and woudl come again for a special occasion. the only drawback is the low seating!
Great food. Great staff. Highly recommended.
Old fashioned food: salty and heavy. A little too expensive. Service is good and staff kind.
Our first experience at Pompette was excellent. The food was delicious, service was relaxed but efficient and overall an excellent lunch. We would not recommend Pompette more highly.
Perhaps the finest meal I have eaten in Oxford, so by that conclusion it has to be the best restaurant in the city. I was particularly impressed by how well my baked cod arrived at table. Delicious, full of flavour, and perfectly complimented with chickpeas. I didn't order from the fixed price lunch because there was nothing on it that excited me, so the a la carte was my choice, which was considerably more expensive.
I did not drink wine, for there wasn't any bottle on the list that appealed, but there was much on the menu that did and I should not hesitate to use Pompette again when I come over to Oxford.
Keep up the good work...and please don't send a waiter over to interrupt a conversation to ask if "everything is all right". If it isn't we shall be sure to inform you.
LM.
Stunning food, excellent wine, wonderful staff. Pompette is beautifully decorated, but never style over substance- the food was well-prepared, carefully considered and delicious. The staff were attentive and chatty, but also left us to enjoy. We'll definitely be going back.
Pleasant room and busy friendly atmosphere on a Saturday evening. Food nothing special and service became quite slow. Prices were steep - almost £280 for a meal for 4 with wine. Would not go again.
Booked online, which somehow means that you get the worst table, en route to the kitchen... and No not possible to sit at any of the other six empty tables that are more suitable. Lesson in there... dont book online !
Food was slow to arrive. Steak was very good. The hake was basically a block of salt which a fish had been added to.
Staff pleasant, if a little hard to get their attention.
Overall, not a good experience. Not terrible, and I must say again that the steak was excellent, but in was disappointed overall.
Warm welcome and excellent service; nice atmosphere; interesting wine list with a number of rarities and obvious care taken over the choice (including wines by the glass and carafe) - and we were advised well; the 3-course lunch was excellent value for money: the first course sweet fresh mussels perfectly cooked was the highlight but all was good; the restaurant is a little out of the town centre but easy and quick to reach by bus. Classic French bistro cooking, so all in all highly recommended.
The food and service was amazing ! We had such a nice evening , absolutely recommend Pompette!!
i feel very lucky that finally we have a really lovely neighbourhood restaurant that serves excellent food. It is a favourite for lunch and a great place to meet friends. i would recommend Pompette every time
My fifth visit. None disappoint. Always exciting fabulous tasting food, always something new. So so flavoursome. If there is a criticism it is that the stimulated senses dull conversation they are that good. Casual relaxed environment. The sweetbreads at visit one linger long in the memory, but the hake this Sunday was so fresh it melted in the mouth. I just love this place.
I want to find fault, but the kitchen, and you must go ‘off piste’ delivers dishes that stun the mind.
From the moment you arrive, you’re every need is met, quietly and unobtrusively. This is the game changer: the service here is sublime. You don’t even need to twitch- they seem to know what you might need.
Go. You will kick yourself if you don’t. It is that good. Unstuffy, stimulating food in a really relaxing environment. What is there not to like
Very friendly
Fantastic - as ever!
The best place to eat in Oxford. Great menu, fantastic drinks, wonderful food and absolutely amazing staff. 100% recommend this restaurant to anyone.
First visit to Pompette and won't be the last. Quality was excellent and ambience was great. Service was great all night, from the greeting, bar service and table service.
Excellent food and ambiance. Very friendly and attentive staff but not overdone. Would thoroughly recommend.
We had a great evening celebrating our wedding anniversary. From the moment we entered the staff were attentive. I wasn’t sure what wine to go for and they were happy to recommend. One of us is vegetarian so there was only 1 option for each course but it was delicious. We had a really enjoyable evening.
A wonderful neighbourhood restaurant - just like having a proper French bistro on our doorstep. Highly accomplished cuisine, lovely choice of dishes.
Best restaurant in Oxford. Small menu which changes daily and wonderful service. Simply can’t fault.
Service in between courses a little slow due a large party but staff right on it with an additional complimentary course even though we had not brought it to their attention. Spot on service.
Simply outstanding in every way: calm, warm and comfortable space; relaxed, friendly and effective FoH staff, amazing food. Wonderful.
I really enjoy going to Pompette and it is great to have a local restaurant that serves proper home made and delicious interesting food. I would highly recommend it. Just one suggestion - you offer a very tasty dip with toast on arrival and I love it but I think that it would be good to create another dish to welcome guests or rotate dishes but just delicious and the most pleasant service
We ate a delicious meal. Service was ok if a little inconsistent. We’d asked for a dish to be gluten free and had been assured that was easy to accommodate but the chef forgot and covered it with breadcrumbs and they were unable to replace the dish. Apparently the breadcrumbs were not even a good addition to the dish. Steaks were incredible. Sadly too full to try the puddings.
Thoroughly excellent throughout. The food was honest, not over-complicated & evidently used excellent quality produce. This is the first time we have been, we will definitely be back!
This was our first dinner at Pompette having previously had a lunch there.
On both occasions we were served a dish other than one we had ordered.
On both occasions the staff were appropriately apologetic and removed items from the bill.
The prices are higher than comparable restaurants in Oxford, but the food is imaginative, well prepared and presented.
The starter menu gave several choices we liked but the main courses were not so attractive to our taste.
Sadly let down by overcooked fish on this visit. Shame, as it's usually perfect. Hoping for better next time.
Great food and service, interesting innovative dishes with great flavours and textures.
This a difficult one. The service was superb, superb ingredients (lovely meaty fresh mussels
I’ve been before and it was excellent at lunchtime but one item on this trip was forgotten a d the mains on the lunch menu were pretty heavy and greasy. Given that there are lots of restaurants in London giving better value I would not recommend this-warm wine, pretty expensive and pretty average. There is a desperate feeling of it all trying too hard to be high end and failing. Same dishes in the evening cost twice as much
Lovely ambience, felt cosy.Tables weren't crammed together so although good for people watching you could also enjoy an intimate date night. Service exceptional without being over the top. Little touches like taking away our glasses of wine to chill whilst waiting to finish aperitifs to replacing a napkin which had fallen on fall unnoticed.Food delicious although perhaps a little salty but I find that whenever eating out as I use very little salt when cooking.
A great addition to local dining scene.I will definitely return
Poor service
Lovely food but inability to clear glasses plates and bring whole table order together without prompting all evening was disappointing
Superb fixed price menu from 6-6.30 and lunch times. Very friendly service. Good wine list.
We had dinner there for my wife's birthday and the food was excellent, the service was fantastic and the selection of wines was impressive. It was such a great night with nothing at all to fault and everything to praise, we loved it.
First visit, for lunch, initial impression very welcoming. Staff attentive and friendly but not overly so, food excellent and both prix fixe and a la carte menus had interesting and unusual dishes on offer. Will definitely go again.
Very disappointed in our meal at Pompette. We had heard great things. The menu choice was poor. I was not advised about ordering vegetables as my choice for main course had none apart from some sun dried tomatoes. We were seated in a corner despite many other vacant tables in the ‘body’ of the restaurant, our view of the restaurant was therefore limited. It was expensive for the meal we got and we will not be rushing back.
