Welcome to Pompette, a new French bistro restaurant by Laura and Pascal Wiedemann. We serve classic French dishes made with quality ingredients, offer fine wines by the glass, or classic cocktails and charcuterie in our cosy bar. We look forward t welcoming you.
Fabulous, third visit and outstanding every time. Would highly recommend.
Stunning food and a great atmosphere, cannot wait to go again.
Charged me twice for a single coke green, otherwise great experience
A really lovely experience. The staff were very friendly, helpful, professional and knowledgeable and the food and drink were absolutely outstanding. The setting and ambience are also lovely.
Delicious food, excellent service, amazing experience overall. Even the toilets are worth a visit!
Great food, lovely service, wonderful evening! Nice way to celebrate our birthdays.
At last Oxford has a good restaurant. We have by to Pompette twice, and both times have been excellent.
The menu is a fairly classic French one the food is delicious, the service is attentive. In my opinion Pompette is the best restaurant in Oxford by a clear margin.
The warm welcome set the standard for the rest of the evening. The food was faultless. The quality of the produce and the cooking just sang. We were too full to try the desserts. Will definitely return.
Really friendly welcome, lovely food. Slightly more mature clientele than lots of the places in town, which suited us perfectly. Welcome addition to Oxford.
Our second lunchtime visit and every mouthful was a delight! Great value for money and staff very knowledgeable of the menu and friendly. I will be going again in the near future.
At last, a properly French restaurant with excellent food in Oxford! The ambience is attractive, the seating comfortable and the staff obliging and friendly, without constantly wanting to know how much you are enjoying the food. All the dishes we had were served promptly, and were perfectly prepared and utterly delicious. And as French as can be. Because the restaurant is not one of those with nothing but hard resonant surfaces, we were able to enjoy one another's conversation without having to raise our voices. The bill, when it came was what we expected and the right price for the excellent meal we had.
Second visit to Pompette,, and once again everything was as expected. Food still excellent with plenty of variation without being overwhelming, the service was again incredibly well done and non intrusive. Will certainly be returning.
Great ingredients, perfectly cooked coupled with an interesting selection of sensibly priced wine. Not too sure you can ask for anything else if you add attentive staff and really well appointed surroundings too ! Enjoyed it very much and we will take the opportunity to come back.
Our first drinks and then our main course took far too long to arrive at the table. We had to summon a waiter twice to get drinks, and then the head waiter to get our main course. When 4 plates of food arrived at the table, dining plates were cold, and one main course (baked cod) was cold. The head waiter gave us 2 complimentary glasses of rose, but really for an expensive restaurant, this wasn't good enough. This restaurant had been highly recommended to us by local friends, but we didn't enjoy it much.
Nice food, very good products, could be a bit more elaborate.
I have written a review before. It is still marvellous. Genuinely welcoming. Classic old favourites like fish soup and creme caramel among the best I have ever had. A new dish: boudin noir with spring vegetables, extremely good. The vegetables done with great care, fresh peas, asparagus, lettuce, morels. Couldn't wish for better food, really. It is a wee bit pricy, though, I think.
What a charming discovery it was to lunch at Pompette, yesterday, with a girlfriend. I had been influenced by a positive press review and it all proved worthwhile. Being French, I am rather demanding and the quality of the dishes, of the welcome, decor were excellent.
Nice starter dip, which we ordered more of with our bread. Cod and lamb for mains, creme caramel for dessert. Nice bourdeux. Food was good, but not special enough to match the cost (plenty of good eating spots around Oxford these days). Service was friendly enough, but somewhat languid and it took a while to catch attention or receive orders on a half-full Tuesday night.
This has a great atmosphere and professional but relaxed staff. The price a bit higher than I would normally pay however the quality of the food and the originality of the cooking was a delight to the tastings. I would definitely return and try the set menu to compare.
It was a quiet Thursday at Easter - they were shut for the Easter w/e. The starters were good and service was good but for some reason (not really explained) we waited ages for the lamb main course. It was supposed to be with anchovies, garlic & chilli but they either weren’t there or weren’t noticeable.
This is our second visit and booked on the day for an early table. Service is exceptionally friendly and very knowledgeable. The wine list is really interesting, I was recommended a vin Jaune as an aperitif which was incredible. I like the sustainable approach with Karma Cola too.
The menu reads simple French and each plate was delivered in a similar understated way, the ingredients are clearly top quality the Rib Eye was exceptional, by the time we left the restaurant was full with a fun vibe, shame we had to leave.
Staff were welcoming without being over attentive, gave us time to choose food and wine.
The standard of the food was excellent, the mussels being "The best tasted for a very long time"
The portions on the fixed price menu are perfectly weighted to produce an excellent meal, with two courses and coffee giving a very satisfying feel without being over full.
The price was a little bit more than we would normally pay for a lunch, but the whole experience made it very good value.
Phenomenal chicken coquelte. Decent cod. Brilliant choux buns. They could have / we should have asked for better wine pairing. They could cosy up the place a little but I may be misplaced coming in from Denmark
Lovely food and fantastic service. Prix Fix menu is excellent value
Best steak in Oxford by a long way. Cheery staff. Good value.
Quality addition to Oxford. Set menu at lunch very good value...
Our experience of Pompette was somewhat spoiled by the waiter explaining that our table was experiencing a delay between our starters being cleared away and us receiving our main dishes because of "problems in the kitchen". It proved to be a lengthy delay and we were neither offered any compensation or any update. I would therefore be wary of recommending Pompette to a friend. It is understandable that problems in restaurants' kitchens do occur but I would want some evidence that the inadequacy of Pompette's response to us was unusual.
We really enjoyed our visit to Pompette. It’s a stylish, sophisticated restaurant but completely unpretentious. We were made to feel so welcome. We had a delicious glass of champagne with an equally delicious dip to begin with followed by the mussels and hearty soup as starters. Our mains were the hake and sausage with superbly matched wine. I absolutely loved my dessert of meringue with rhubarb and my husband simply raved about the choux pastry filled with vanilla cream. I’d really recommend Pompette - the lunch is amazing value for money. Do go!
The food, wine and service was excellent, on a level of quality and standard of Scott's of Mayfair..
Was extremely impressed overall with the lunch and experience.
Excellent food and very well presented. Lived up to reviews I had read. Could have tried almost everything on the menu.
Menu choices for starter and main courses very good and varied, with some unusual dishes - such as the snails, which were lovely. Ham croquette also well worth trying as a nibble. Service was good.
Wonderful place to eat, with value for money, delicious flavoursome food and extremely attentive staff. The menus are seasonal - meaning I can go time and time again to try a new meal. Perfect!
Excellent lunchtime meal which was all delicious.
Very good service and interesting choices of wine
Authentic French cuisine, good range of choices - fish soup was outstanding!
Great people who care about what they’re serving... and rightly so: delicious.
Food, service, wine, atmosphere all excellent. Second visit even better than the first. 10/10
Excellent all round. No complaints. Hope it does well in long run
A busy and buzzy Friday night in Summertown. Great food, great service. Only problem for us was that the noise level prevented a problem for my rather hard of hearing husband. As the evening wore on, the noise subsided and he could hear the conversation!
Despite Jay Rayner,"rave" review terribly disapointing. The best thing was the bread from the bakery down the road,.
The wine was dull, initially far too cold. The wine list was totally uninspiring .
My starter was ordinary in the extreme rillete with toast, The two very small slices of toadt were burnt,
My main course, lemon risotto was over salted a nd the only evidence of lemon
Were tiny pieces of lemon rind. It was impossible to discern any vestige of LeMon flavour.
We were charged for a carafe of tap water and my companion managed to knock over her coffee for which we were charged.
Would never either return nor would I recommend.
We had an excellent dinner on a very busy Saturday evening (fortunately we had booked!). The place was full and as a result the noise level was high, but this really just generated a great atmosphere and did not detract from our enjoyment. Two glasses of excellent English fizz to start (it was our anniversary!) and a superb bottle of Priorat Spanish red (pricey but worth it). My mussels starter was great and my wife loved the globe artichoke with fabulous vinaigrette. Lamb main course was brilliant too.
A great evening with friendly service and very efficient despite being full. Would definitely recommend and we hope to return soon.
